This is the Nightmare Plus from Macross Frontier. Say something nice about it.
>>
>>19758021
One of the few genuinely good things about Frontier.
>>
>>19758021
A shame the battroid mode was kinda lame, Diamond Force from 7 gave them a better showing
>>
>>19758048
Fuck you, it has a cool sniper rifle.
>>
>>19758039
I don't much care for the 171s (though they're fine), but the Guantanamos are really neat carriers. I wish they'd done more than that launching animation and exploding.
>>
>>19758039
is there really a need for a long runway in space?
>>
>>19758099
IRL, it would make for a nice EMALS system, reducing the need for engine burns.
>>
>>19758071
>Guantanamos
Did they really name them that? And I thought Victory's "Birkenau" MA was funny
>>
>>19758355
Yes. Fairly sure the name was set back around Plus's release (since they're in that), so at the time it was more associated with a military base in an awkward location rather than pointless torture. Not really any excuse for the Birknau.
>>
>>19758021
gerwalk looks better than the old one
>>
>>19758387
maybe they've got underwater capabilities
>>
>>19758021
The worst part about macross is theres never any call backs to older VFs. It’s just whatever new model they made for the current series.
You never get to see a Valkyrie redone for frontier or delta.
We’ll never get our battle at torrington
>>
>>19758473
you what? Every single Macross show has callbacks to older VFs, except maybe Plus.
>Seven
Basara's VF is a VF-19, as in the same one from Plus, which was in the prototype stage? And then Max shows up in a VF-21, also from Plus. I'm pretty sure there's also some VF-1s for a festival or something?
>Frontier
171s in the OP are upgraded versions of the 171 in Seven, and there's probably others which I can't remember, but Frontier is an anniversary show with references to older shows so there's more for sure.
>Delta
I'm pretty sure they used a VF-1 for training at some point?
>>
>>19758473
didn't 7 had an episode where old models got taken out of mothballs because the city part got separated from the fleet?
>>
>>19758485
Some old farts from Space War 1 had a goddamn Monster laying around.
>>
>>19758099
Nope, but I think it's mostly to help with launch operations since there's no catapult. VFs are only allowed to do a full launch burn at that lighted up corridor, clear the ship ASAP, keep VFs flying only infront of the ship etc2.
>>
>>19758482
Yeah, VF-1s get used for training in both Seven and Delta.
>>
>>19758473
>The worst part about macross is theres never any call backs to older VFs. It’s just whatever new model they made for the current series.
what the fuck are you smoking, thats what makes each title unique and fresh the VF-1 isnt even the best looking VF
>>
>>19758473
Macross Plus and 7 share some VF designs. The VF-11 sticks around as a main line grunt, while the YF-19 and 21 are now the VF-19 Excalibur and VF-22 Sturmvogel.

Later on the VF-17 from Macross 7 becomes the VF-171 in Frontier, and Isamu's YF-19 also makes a cameo.

I am mostly with you though. Given the rate of human expansion, there should be some backwater poverty militias still using outdated VFs, just like how the Zentraedi have held onto their old designs. Also the VF-25 and VF-31 are kinda boring

The VF-1 on top of Alto and co.'s school (at least on the TV version of Frontier) is [allegedly] the same VF-1D that Hikaru flew in the first eps of SDFM, though it was changed in the movies to another VF model entirely.

Yet another strike against the movies.
>>
>>19758638
It suddenly occurred to me that school building looks like Macross Cannon of SDF-1. I wonder if it was intentional or it just me seeing things.
>>
>>19758723
I'd be surprised if it wasn't intentional.
>>19758631
With the rate of tech advancement, even the backwoods podunks are probably getting new outdated VFs semi-often. Macross isn't quite Lensman, but they aren't taking the scenic route. I really liked that bit with the old Zentraedi wreck's cannon still worked after however many centuries; it was a nice reminder of how stable and long term they had been set up to be.

This is just a guess but I think it was replaced with a VF-0? It's about the only delta-wing VF I can find before the VF-31 line, though the lack of winglets is throwing me off.
>>
>>19758482

Basara also pilots a modified civilian VF-1 the first time he goes to find the space whales in Dynamite 7. It's a two seater that belonged to the old whaler and his wife, and is capable of atmospheric exit on it's own. Which is presumably the result of technological upgrades over time under the hood of the units as sold, rather than something that whaler dude modified it to be capable of on it's own. He had modified it to have a harpoon gun at the very least though.

You forgot Hayate's dad used a 22 to DE the shit out of the windfags
>>
>>19758473
>>19758482
7 had Milia's VF-1 and some civilian VF-1s.
Frontier's 171s are basically upgraded VF-17s, canonically higher specs than the VF-17.
Delta had a pair of VF-1EXs(essentially modernised VF-1s with EX-Gear).

>>19758631
>there should be some backwater poverty militias still using outdated VFs
If anything, it seems more like the NUNS provides VF-171s as the standard grunts even to backwater colonies, and the colonies that got better shit like the VF-25 basically paid for those VFs with their own funds.
After the whole fiasco with the YF-19 breaching Earth's defences alone(even if the defences weren't at full capability), Earth HQ has been pretty conservative in handing out good shit to the colonies. Instead they handed the data for the YF-24 to the colonies and let them play with it using their own funds.

>VF-19s that aren't monkey models aren't allowed to be assigned to anyone without high command approval
>VF-22 is basically dedicated special forces machine
Anything better than the 171 is not accessible unless a colony develops one on their own.
The YF-24's data and design is basically open for the colonies to look at so everyone that wants a new and better VF uses the YF-24 as a reference, but they have to foot the development costs on their own.
>>
>>19758473
This has gotta be one of the most brainlet takes I've ever witnessed.
>>
>>19758482
Delta really missed a great chance to bring the VF-9 to animation. It makes more sense for VF-31J pilots to train with the forward-swept wing VF-9 instead of the the VF-1.

Then again the show is called Delta, and the main VF is not a delta wing model.
>>
>>19758473
Literally the first training run in Delta used VF-1
>>
>>19758099
maybe it's some sort of capapult or special mass driver

The 171 is literally a callback to the 17.

Aren't those ships able to operate in gravity as well? Probably accounted for landing on planets.

but we did, Alto pilots a VF-1 in the manga
>>
>>19763723

He also pilots a VF-171 for several episodes as part of NUNs near the end of the show, after breaking from SMS and the VF-171 is just a slightly upgraded VF-17 from 7.
>>
>>19758039
Huh, I was wondering where Infinite Warfare got its inspiration for its fighter jets from.
>>
I want to FUCK Ranka.

Enjoy the crabs, I'll stick with perfect idol Sheryl
>>
>>19764528
Sheryl's a slut.
>>
>>19764530
but she only fuck one man in her life.
>>
>>19758071
Wings of Goodbye had gunship variants. They are likely from Earth as their fleet is switching to Uruga class for carriers.
>>
>>19758021

Poor boy deserved more scenes with FAST and Armored variants, even the VF-11 got those.
>>
>>19764530
Ranka fucked an entire colony of giant bugs AND her own brother
>>
>>19764802
Yesp, same as Jaina Solo in star wars legends.
>>
>>19764530
Ranka is a race traitor.

Excuse you, Jacen has better taste than that.
