ITT: Obscure video game mecha.
Endymion and Astraea
does it have to be from obscure video games or does the mecha itself have to be obscure
>>19272345Up to you.
>>19271648Who knew that scott could pull some interesting mecha designs.
>>19271648Not really that obscure but just severely underrated I feel like.I can barely even find high res pics of him. Playing the game is the only way I have of getting close to appreciate one of my favourite mecha designs.
what's her name /m/?
The forgotten MG
My favorite VG mecha of allllllll time.
>>19273246It least Zeke made it to a game with console ports.
>>19273246>no zeke kotobukiya modelfeels real bad. honestly, metal gear should have had way more kits milked out of it. a smaller more affordable rex, ray, and sally. another production run of ray. gekkos. zeke and the other unmanned gears from peace walker. everything from revengeance.
>>19273723I think Konami's boss genuinely despises Metal Gear and refuses to do anything cool with it even though it would make a ton of money. That's the only thing that makes sense.
The oldest PS1 game I own... Space Griffon VF-9
Open world GTAesque game with mechs? It's a shame they killed the sequel
Skels are great
>>19273190I'm with you on this. such a great design sorta hidden at the end of an alternate game mode.
I've never seen any mention of or images of this game "Figureheads" outside of pinterest.which is a shame cuz it seemed to have some great designs
pretty much everything from this game
>>19274177Neat! This game takes place in the same world as the Langrisser series I think. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Langrisser_IV>An aged wizard, Gizlof, whose 2 main goals in life: immortality and world domination, already had the wheels of his great scheme in motion. Through a pact with the dark god, Gendrasil, and the knowledge obtained, he began construction of a new piloted Guyframe unit as well as experiments on clones and modified humans. On that note, if we're on the subject of Masaya mechs, Vixen 357 isn't well known but I always give it a shoutout where I can, it's been fantranslated and the later levels are very difficult for an early 90s SRPG.
>>19271648A Zwerg 4-legger from Steel Lancer Arena International. It looks very inspired by the mechs from Maschinen Krieger.
im the only one here who played Geki-oh
>>19273987Mastema, huh? Do they all have Biblical names? I only played the original XB but the mech in that was named Yaldabaoth so I'm sensing a theme here.
>>19274248No, there's some with more generic names like "Formula" or "Urban"
>>19274254Well Urban was the name of a Pope so that one still kind of fits, even if probably unintentionally.
I remember being so impressed by the intro to this gamehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kkwuw26ESn4
>>19274213>>19274336I swear every time I think I've heard of all the PS1 games I learn about two more. What a legendary console.
>>19274336Shoji Kawamori was the mech designer for Omega Boost. I thought that was pretty cool.
>>19273952Shame about the way the game runs on the ps2 as well.
the sledger>literally just a walking gun>recoil forces it to walk backwards to not fall over>firing behind you doubles your movement speed like some kind of bullet jetpack
>>19274336I will always associate this game with Eiffel 65
>>19273777Is it good?
>>19274405I find it neat that even in the far future of that universe, the M2 and the GAU-8 are still being used.
Would C&C 3 count as "obscure"? Certainly the kids these days aren't aware of these.
>>19274405ive always wanted to get into this game but the sprites are so small i cant really appreciate the designs
>>19275815...Play it in full screen?
>>19275815I know the feeling I play on a TV and I'm tempted to bust out a monitor just for it so I can have it in front of my face
>>19272339I can't believe this got in Kingdom Hearts and World of Final Fantasy.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aXFue-DCjk
>>19274405What game is that, what do you do in it other than shoot the shit out of things apparently.
>>19276288>what do you do in itwar crimes mostly, but also pay for lore in-universe and min-max super retard builds like my 5hp tuk-tuk with mortars on it
>>19273211not from a video game
>>19274169Wow. Sauce? I'd guess Demonbane, from the name, but I know Demonbane reasonably well and I don't recognize that...
>>19277083a boss in anarchy reigns
>>19276729Is that some dude wearing Xenogears cosplay in-universe? That face is fucking atrocious.
>>19274189is it any good?
For a gunpla newfag, what's the best way to go from a snap on set to making a painted and in detail gunpla?
>>19278738I didnt think so, but I don't like battle royale games in general
>>19278876Well I don't hate them, and I'm pleasantly surprised to see that this game has a PC version so it might actually be playable. Might give it a try.
>>19280414as far as I could tell I was facing entire games of low level bots, at least for the first few ranks.I dunno if that's common practice for a BR or just small player base ones, but it was essentially no challenge until I started playing against what I assumed were real people. Also I didn't like that you had to summon your mech and that it could be destroyed. I would have preferred if you were just in a mech the entire time. But it has a nice variety of mechs in all the different staple styles, even SD. But its a gacha so you have to roll for most of them.
>>19271648>Obscure video game mecha
>>19271648Does this count?
>>19282087The Ancient City of Asus
>>19273106Scott is legit creative, I just hope he gets the fuck away from FNAF eventually
>>19282635dont forget blockman
>>19282635>>19282826This was basically the greatest game ever made.
>>19281475That makes me want to see more of the game, but something inside remains cautious of even touching it.
>>19282635>>19282826I recall local Blockbuster stocked the import version of this, because there was such a dearth of games around the start of the N64 in the USA
>>19282844well its f2p, but its also chinese so who knows what info it collects
>>19282863I think being scared of a game because it's Chinese is dumb. All games collect your information but for some reason China is the only country that people fearmonger about.
>>19282879yeah, I mean, like yeah China is Number One at being shit, but literally every gizmo you own is balls deep in Winnie the Pooh so why start giving a shit now
>>19282890Yeah, don't get me wrong, I am no fan of the Chinese government, but it's only the last few years that people started freaking out like "Oh shit I can't touch any Chinese product for any reason" after using them for decades with no complaints and most likely still possessing some.
>>19282912yeah that happened to me at work a while backI share a computer with some other people and bring in my own mouse and keyboard because lolocd and somebody was like "zomg teh chinas" and I was all "who do you think built every other component in this building" and then even the super paranoid marine in the office was like "lol yeah you missed the boat about two decades ago"
>>19282890yea, just thought I'd mention it cuz its a turn off for some people
>>19282833I actualy bought the cartridge back when Wii was already two years old. After playing part of it on emulator and being surprised at how good it was, I had to play it on my N64 with the actual controller ir was designed for.Cerberus Alpha is still my favorite boss fight ever.
>>19282942all his voicelines are great toohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hEjDTonO90
>>19282942I respect it, messed around with it for a minute or two on the original hardware, but in practice Treasure stuff for me is more "I can see why this is well-liked by many people" than "I like it"
>>19282948KEKHow did I miss that video? I saw a ton of Another memes back when it aired. Now I need an "EAT LEAD" one, too.
>>19282950To me it was "that ugly looking game promoted on the N64 box" and never cared one bit about it, but then as I said I tried it many years after and I found it incredibly quirky and fun, you never knew what new way to solve a stage or crazy thing would happen next. It just felt like one of those crazy 90s animes. Nonetheless I can totally see it not being for everyone, that's what happens with outlandish things, they either completely resonate with you ot they absolutely fail at it.
>>19283000some indie dev is developing a "spiritual sequel" to it, I forget the name tho.
>>19283018>some indie dev is developing a "spiritual sequel" to itWill have to check on that!
>>19282862Mine did the same thing Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon. Also Power Pros, but that's not really relevant right now.
>>19282973Is Another good? I vaguely remember it being one of those super popular anime back in za day but I never looked into it very much so I have no idea if it was some "so bad it's good" shitposting material or if people genuinely liked it. And it was really short so the talk about it seemed to fizzle out fast and I haven't seen anyone mention it in years.I dunno if the clip I just watched is a huge spoiler but looking at the premise of the show it basically sounds like Final Destination in anime form with people dying constantly so I guess it's kind of whatever that I saw that.
>>19282863I'm less concerned about the chinese bit and more concerned about general gameplay. It's a battle royal, but you're fighting against bots? And there's the obvious gacha, I don't know if I'm going to end up getting boned by that.
>>19284543I heard that game was somewhat disappointing
>>19284514i cant prove they were bots but the way they behaved made me think they were. but it potentially could have just been really shitty players on their phones or something.
>>19283728>Is Another good?It was OK I guess. The overarching mystery behind it all keep me interested in a serious way, and the random retarded deaths keep me interested in a dumb way.
>>19276314Thanks>>19276700Oh that looks fun, so it's customise shit and then blow shit up? Sign me the fuck up.
>>19284514>>19284628Even Fortnite, by far the most popular battle royale, has random bots mixed in with normal players intentionally added by the devs because general interest in the genre has subsided so it's hard to find a full 100 players for a match. I'm not surprised this obscure mecha battle royale has a lot of bots.
>ctrl-f Thexder>0 results to be honest I’m not sure if that means that it’s not obscure or that it’s too obscure.
>>19285373ehh, yesit's not exactly obscure, had a usa release by ega if not by cgamore nobody cares
>>19285383It had multiple US releases across most platforms at the time. If you went to a pc store in the mid to late 80’s it was guaranteed to be running on a demo machine.
That being said, like most PC action games at the time it was a very tedious sort of thing to play and not particularly fun
Doesn't the Metal Slug series have a lot of mechs? Probably more walker-types than humanoid. But they get over-shadowed since almost every type of vehicle gets represented.
>>19285609The title Metal Slug is quite literally the name of the pivotal mech in those games.
>>19272339Been playing this recently, good shit. Fuck that monkey miniboss though.
The 4th level of the Mechanical Engineering in Grow Island is a small mech with a sword. The Civil Engineering guy used it to make a port for a ship.
>>19278720Say that in real life and not online motherfucker
>>19286114I know this is a thread for obscure video games, but I'm still impressed by how confidently you mentioned this random flash game as if everyone's heard of it.
>>19289592I wish the rest if the Cogna from WoFF had concept art.
>>19289595This is suppised to be Figaro's castle from FF6 combined with the underground prison from FF8, and it has a Mako reactor and a bunch of black mages and Vivis as soldiers.
>>19287393Well, you can lead her to kill herself because of bankrupt by destroying every place she tries to works with
>>19289633or just blow up her apartment building with her in ithttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqmeQ0Ya4G8
>>19289633>>19290171What's up with this game, it has intricate branching story paths for a minor NPC?
>>19290171That "Ki-yaaaaah." gets me every time.
>>19274182Where is this from?
>>19274212This and phantom crash have great designs, they do resemble Ma.K a lot. Wonder if it was the same people?
PN03 had beautiful mechanical designs>that tank that turned into a phoenix
>>19290254The storylines are around the same except with differences depending on the character, Nanao is one of those important npc's which situation is influenced in how you handle the city major buildings
Y'all will probably know the answer to this one: What's the mecha game for PS2 that had you as like a kid on the ground with a remote controlled giant robot? It came out pretty early in the PS2 lifecycle if I remember correctly.
>>19295403Remote Control Dandy?
>>19295801Nope. Just looked at gameplay footage and that's not it.
where my metal arms bros at
>>19296533Oh fuck yeah.
>>192906093 days late, but Kow Yokoyama himself did the paint designs for both Phantom Crash and Steel Lancer. Also, the company in the game that manufactures that particular mech model is called "Ma.FabriK".
>>19271648Well now. I wasn't expecting to see some DFO on /m/.
>>19273100I seem to recall that the act fancer cover is so bad that even the japanese have issues reading it. he a cool design though.
>>19300601These are some pretty impressive graphics. Japan had a lot of really cool games with a lot of work put into them that proceeded to never get translated.
>>19274212>>19290609renting S.L.A.I. from blockbuster as a kid eons ago singlehandedly turned me into a /m/anthe soundtrack is absolutely legendary
>>19302062Why do they all talk in lowercase?
>>19302126I've never noticed that in the years ive played this gameThe translation is fine, there arent any typos elsewhere, it must be some sort of weird design choice.
>>19302126I think it's supposed to look like real people talking/typing at you, poor grammar and all
>>19271648Tree Of Savior have lots of magic /m/
>>19302041https://youtu.be/0NKZHyDmZa0?t=340Metal gear rising Revengeance blade wolf DLC
https://youtu.be/DyV-WqiCSFMThe only thing I know about this game is that the character designs were by Toru Nakayama before he's known for the Mega Man Zero/ZX Games. I wonder if there's full art of these.
Anyone know if this game is any good?
>>19305648It's a pretty fun SRPG with a decent plot for its time, amusing characters and dialogue, a fair and engaging combat system, and cool mechs. I recommend it, especially if you're emulating it, no reason not to give it a whirl.
du wilst sterben
>>19289595the proportions on that endymion look funny
>>19306985>>19305648if you're going to play it, make sure you talk to your goons between missions, lest you be trapped in the bad end zone without even knowing it
Mega Man itself may not be obscure, but when you talk about the series I doubt anyone's first, or even tenth thought would be Bruno.
