Always struck me as a crazy thing to show in a childrens cartoon about a giant toy robot. Will probably be one of the most memorable moments from an anime to me. Also pic related.

That one Zaku pilot who falls with the Gundam through the Earth's upper atmosphere and is burned alive. Just the death alone is haunting, but what makes it worse is Char is legitimately regretful at being unable to recover the pilot but reassures the pilot that his sacrifice at least wont be in vain. Of course, the Gundam then takes out its magic blanket and survives just fine.

Kamille’s mom dying. I’ve found the idea of dying in the vacuum of space deeply disturbing and terrifying since I was a kid, though I haven’t really thought about the subject in years. Can't tourniquet a femoral artery wound by yourself. The blood pressure drop would make you delirious or just black you out in about 5-15 seconds, and you'd be past the point of help in about 30-45. Even if you got a wound like that in an ER already prepped on the operating table, youd be looking at 50/50 odds.

You should be glad then, she didn't die to the vacuum of space, she died instantly from machine gun fire and a chunk of her remains were still on the MK-II's hand. I've been looking for any info on it's production but the most I can get is Tomino: I killed them kids for the shock factor! I'm interested in why it was only 23 episodes while Daitarn 3 lasted to 40. The show itself seemed like a flex of Sunrise's creative muscles as they tried to show what they could do on their own more than a cohesive product.

A few things in Zambot feel kind of loose and awkward if you think about it too much (Why is Planet Beal such a punk bitch that they couldn't fight off the Gaizock? If it's because they fought a larger Gaizock force before, is Kappei going to have to do this shit again? How did they get everyone into those sleeping capsules that one episode? If Zambot loses a limb, who fixes it? Do they have the material? What exactly tipped them off that the Gaizock are coming? Does the government have Zambots now? Are they going to start Zambot wars? Is the dog really a robot? Is it the co-pilot? Who puts a cockpit in a foot?) None of that really matters though cause at the end of the day they told an interesting story and saw what boundaries they could push while they got their footing making their own things. There's some interviews in here but I have no idea if it's just fluff or if they say anything of note because of my lack of moon speak. https://nyaa.si/view/1049327

I really like the craziness of the 80's (witches being stabed, killer Santas, possessed kids etc), but I must admit this episode of Jiban was pure unnecessary torture porn for kids... Simply the most violent episode made for a toku: hero x 3 powered up villains. Result? Beaten to death, arm ripped, chest pierced, the end. Sadomaso, enjoyment zero and lazy writing.

Of course he got ressurected in episode 35 and fucked all of them later, but... that previous episode was brain dead, even for the edgy 80's.

>>
>>19120320
That was back when Toku wasn’t just one giant toy commercial quality-wise, and the quality of the show actually mattered. Metalder took a very different approach by having the hero not only fight one of the big bads in his first match, but lose, and from there put a lot of emphasis on the villains, their culture as a society, and the individuals MOTWs.
Unfortunately the second half becomes a lot more standard, but even then we got some great stuff like Valsky being the final general fight and fighting for his whole empire.

Despite not liking the movie, Gundam NT's ending was horribly depressing. Here's Jona, who's lost his family and almost everyone he cared about, then later on has the girl he loves taken. Later learns that his only remaining friend betrayed them and is the cause of his crush's suffering and eventual death... only for Jona to learn his crush knew ALL ALONG what would happen and allowed all these shitty things to happen to all three of them just so they could prevent the NZ II from destroying the planet. This leads to Michele dying, leaving Jona completely alone. Jona has dedicated most of his life trying to find Rita, and has learned he can become a cool space ghost with some psycoframe, but nope! Rita cock blocks him for some reason. After all this shit has him wondering if he should just kill himself, Banagher gives the worst pep talk ever to convince him to keep on living.

To sum it up, he was manipulated for most of his life by his friends, those friends get to become super ghosts while he's left alone and shattered.

I watched Giant Gorg last year and there's a part towards the end that's really sobering Basically the muscle man of the group, a mercenary known only as 'The Skipper' who has been helping the main character uncover the secrets of the island the story takes place on sells everyone out. There's nothing noble about it he did it all for the money and you can see it coming a mile away but I honestly hoped he would soften up around the kids. Then he gets caught and is thrown in the brig by the villains of the story and just waits for his execution because the money seemed to be for someone else.

On top of this the collective governments of the world decide to nuke the island because of the aliens and giant robots on it so the series last episodes have these really sobering shots of the bad guys and rebels kind of just palling around since they all realize they are going to die and they can't leave the island anyways.

It was really sobering to watch as guys just drove buggies around the military installations and drank themselves into a stupor waiting for the end

I think that episode is the last time I cried. The internet and the endless stream of news made me insensitive and deprived of empathy.
>>
>>19112270
The GG(G) gas sequence in 08th MS Team was a lot more graphic.
>>
>your master and his home planet have already met their fate, but all you can do is cry out to him for help
>>
There's this one moment in Liveman that just sticks out in my memory. It's when Gildos literally finds out every memory and history of his species and planet was a fake created by Dr. Bias and he was actually just a robot and didn't know it. His VA sounded like he was having a legitimate breakdown and it was kinda haunting.
>>
I've been watching toei Getter and holy shit, it has some very gruesome moments
>that dinosaur that thawed out from a glacier and has a flawless plan but Goer gives him a stupid order to kill the Getter ruining the plan and he is about to ignore it but his loyalty for the emperor causes his demise
>that ice lizard that gets GETTA BEEEAAM'd and uses his last minutes of life to carry out the plan, pretending to be an alien to give Saotome a bad rep, knowing full well that he was merely a sacrifice for the greater good
>that episode when the getter comes back from space and finds the studio completely destroyed and basically gone, thinking all their friends are dead
>that dinosaur that receives a bit of compassion by the getter team and ends up sacrificing himself instead of killing them (pic related)

it's entirely possible that the earth was dead and that it was all automated prior to the release of Diebuster
all of the events from Noriko's perspective took place in less than year (from her being selected for the top team to her returning to earth in the year 12K)
even with the existence of Diebuster everybody and everything she knew is long gone
I love the ending, but damn its bleak when you take time to think about it

Anything relativistic is kind of bleak. It's a good chunk of why Soviet SF (which tends heavily towards having time dilation in its space travel) is so melancholy. The other reason, of course, is that it's Russian.

space guts had a hard life
>parents killed
>seperated from your brother
>sent to serve a slave child labor/soldier
>have a glimmer of hope when the kids take over
>bigger glimmer of hope when finding your broither again and alive
>he just dies in front of you
>horribly

it was alright. not as good as gunbuster of course, but i enjoyed it well enough and the reverse view point at the end

I can still hear the scream

Also that scene from LoGH when they show what's happening inside a damaged ship and you see just wounded dying men begging for their mothers
>>
>>19130765
iirc Teens in the Universe does some stuff with it
>>
Not that haunting but that one sequence from Rahxephon that was horribly depressing. The one time it showed up in SRW, they played it straight and it was just as horribly depressing.
>>
Near the end of Ryuki where Asakura gets gunned down and Kitaoka dies of cancer. Good shit man.

They spelled it in Katakana, usually reserved for other things besides common Japanese phrases, instead of Hiragana
It's entirely possible the Japanese language has deteriorated or is even dead
They still went out of their way to put together a welcome home message after hundreds of years, even if it's 'wrong'

I think Ikarie XB-1 does relativity? I know that's Eastern Bloc at least
>>
>>19136482
to be fair from what I understand katakana will get used for emphasized versions of Japanese words, like for big neon store signs and stuff
it's not a hundred percent absolute rule, like how the Slayers games used English words written in hiragana for the titles
>>
It's not as dark as any of the other examples in this thread but the OG Gundam getting its arms amd legs and head blown off and then blasting upwards at the Zeong in a suicidal effort made me feel really sad for it, I got attached to that hunk of metal

Tamaki-chan!
>>
>>19137093
That moment hit like a fucking truck considering Team Doberman had been used to take the piss out of Death Flags up to that point. And what made it worse was that there was no ugly sobbing or self-isolation by Team Rabbits. Just quiet rumination and Tamaki contemplating the fish guts.

Reminder that in LOGH even "good" battles still had casualty rates in the double digits and that normal engagement had casualties in the millions for both sides.

This scene is so memorable to me, characters in anime don't feel as alive or as fluid like this anymore, their intimacy and the bounciness of their hair is so smooth and meaningful, seeing Kitten's death and Cosmo screaming out "Buff Clan" made my stomach drop

This scene also hurt a lot, seeing Sheryl's sister die a couple episodes before the movie and seeing her suffer even more with Gije's death was just tear jerking
