Why is hard mode so kino? I love how they remix the levels with different objectives, enemies, and dialogue. Such a huge step up from just tweaking damage and health values.
>>
>>18984029
They actually gave a shit this time around, instead of reducing your lockbox, bumping up damage, and making everything generally hurt more anyways.

I raged so hard at the 1v6 AC fight. (I know that one King guy is there, but he doesn't exactly count on the fact he dies in 2 seconds)
>>
>>18984339
>I raged so hard at the 1v6 AC fight. (I know that one King guy is there, but he doesn't exactly count on the fact he dies in 2 seconds)
That fight is super build dependant. At first I got my ass kicked using machine guns on a melee AC, but I strapped grenade cannons to an ultra fast flying AC and S ranked it the first time. The only mission I felt was retarded on hard mode was Elimnation at the Hazen Facility map. The giant aoe rocket spam was just too much in cramped quarters.
>>
Where are my reverse joint brethren?
>>
>>18984029
I wish more games would do this, usually, hard modes are just higher stats for enemies, and maybe bigger numbers, but those rarely mean shit when its the same shit mook, I wish more games would do this, specially with the extra dialogues and AC fights, since it gives a more detailed plot, soo it serves to give a bigger insentive to play hard mode
>>
>>18984480
Right here, but only in AC1, AC2, AC2AA, Nexus and LR.
>>
>>18984480
Whats the proper way to use a reverse legged AC? Bunnyhopping around or jump dashing over the other AC?
>>
>>18985078
I dunno, I tend to bunnyhop.

Neither.
RJ Legs have high Weight and Jump capability, so it makes sense to use them up close to spring above an enemy Lockbox.
Enemy looks up, high Weight helps you get below their Lockbox.
Combine with Turn Boosters to outmaneuver enemies rather than using speed to play keep away.
>>
>>18985754
Ive tried that, but it seems to get me shot to shit and doesnt really take full advantage of their jumping ability.

>>18985788
Thanks. Machineguns with a SW FCS the preferred set up for this? Playing through AC3 now and it seems to be pretty effective. Also are the turn boosters worth giving up the anti missile system?

I'm very new to this franchise.
Playing Last Raven Portable and AC3 Portable and I'm having freezing issues using an emulator.
What else may I play? The PS1 and PS2 games? Don't got any consoles
>>
>>18986747
>I'm having freezing issues using an emulator.
You don't seem to be the first. Don't know why but it seems common, meanwhile PS2 titles have basically no issues with emulation. Why play portable except a few more parts here and there?
>>
>>18984833
Wait what the fuck there's extra dialogue? More reason to do a replay of that game now.
>>
>>18986809
As far as I know, this only applies to 4 era
>>
>>18986809
It's only a few lines at most, usually pertaining to whatever makes the mission harder, be it an extra NEXT pilot banting, or your operator bitching about bad intel. However 4's final mission and the ORCA route final mission in For Answer differences/dialog are actually very relevant to background plot. Also some hard mode missions give some busted ass items against AI, like the hard mode version of "Defeat Unknown NEXT + No Count" giving the Kojima missiles.

Listening to Kasumi get less and less vocal about shit intel and just accepting it in FA's hard missions was great.
>>
>>18986809
ACFA hard mode is some real shit.
Some missions on hard really flesh out a lot of the plot and character interactions.
>>

Corkscrew patterns while retreating from rapid-fire weapon users like Ace or Exile.
Steady boosts in a single direction until an enemy is about to fire, then quickly juking in the opposite direction for Cannon users like Barchetta.
>>
If there is an AC 6 or a reboot, how long do you think the single player will be? Will they go the traditional 4-10 hours, or the modern 15-60 hours?
>>
>>18987271
For me, the best of Kasumi arc, is how she goes from stearn and caring teacher (most notable when you fail missioms early on), to be in awe and proud of your progress

just to throw everything into the trash by choosing OldKing
>>

>>
>>18988257
To make it hit 60 hours they'd either have to make a shitload of missions, or make the missions take way longer.
I liked the resupply points in VD so that could help facilitate a longer mission structure.

It already does on Xenia, long as you don't upscale it too hard so that the AC colors don't break. RPCS3 can play start to finish, but the colors are fucked and the only fix crashes the game.
>>
>>18988472
They were there in ACV as well, they were actually the nicest thing about the Story Missions as well, considering the fact they're legit picking you up as fast as possible to then calmly change AC parts on what is essentially the fly.

Does it? AC 4 doesnt have texture issues when I don't upscale, but AC:FA does. Or atleast it does in the tutorial. Does it clear up after?

the long story missions where really nice, and I hope they make a comback but with more enemy variety and maybe some objectives.

I give 10 shits about the textures. I've tried to play through AC:FA with the broken textures and it just hurt my soul. Especially when so much fun of the game is admiring the animations of your mech in action.

Or is it just me, fooling myself that there's something at the end?

And should I add anything, or should I keep the innocence of a laser blade intact? Missiles? Railguns? Rockets?
>>

Yes you're a retard casualfag who cant drop the training wheels and do a parry blade only run. So incredibly sad.
>>
>>18990125
Yeah, it honestly kinda hurts. That's your AC/NEXT out there, the thing you built, painted, tuned and tested a thousand times over. That's your baby.

So far, all Armored Core games are playable on Xenia/RPCS3 but suffer from serious issues.
4/FA: NEXT texture issues, commonly found when upscaling or just normally.
V/VD: Can't get past the install screen without special tweaking by manually creating the install folders. Even then, doesn't get past the first mission like the tutorial, first mission, or even the AC Test. Still quite stuttery and seems to have a hard time properly rendering particles and effects like gunshots. AC colors are fucked too.

But he IS boosting while using OB.
Even with FURUNA and a low Calorific Value Generator he should be near to red-lining his heat meter if he's constantly doing both.
It seems to be that he's using OP-INTENSIFY Cooling and Energy cheats for this vid, which would explain the seemingly too low heat generation and energy use.
It would also explain the godawful piloting mistakes like constant hard-landing, lack of FCS juking, and problems keeping his enemy locked-on.
>>
>>18995388
>It seems to be that he's using OP-INTENSIFY
Nope. No grid radar and his AC does heat up.
>>
>>18995544
Nice triple dubs, but isn't it true that OP-INTENSIFY cheats can be partially enabled in 3.5th gen?
Also I thought the Cooling Cheat only increases standard Cooling, not Forced Cooling, and not giving infinite Cooling.
Hence he would still heat up, just not to the same degree as he would if he didn't have the Cheat.
Which is why I call bullshit.
>>
>>18995723
>Nice triple dubs,

Not to my knowledge. I've messed around with OP-Intensify using cheat discs (mostly Gameshark) on NX and LR. It NEVER partially enables OPI. It's always 100%. I don't have and never played NB, but in LR, OPI makes it so that your energy is basically unlimited and your AC pretty much never heats up at all, which is why I doubt he's using it.

What makes energy weapons good? I never tried them because they seemed to have such a low ammo count on top of costing energy too

Difference between the Controller and IBIS from Nine-Ball is that they were meant to cradle humanity only until the surface was ready. Problem is, humanity got so fucking complacent with being babied that the Controller had to resort to violence to get them to toughen up, while IBIS needed to get help from outside its city (in this case, the SIlent Line protag). It's a deliberate contrast between the plots of AC1 and AC3/SL.
>>
>>19011390
Soo the controller wanted to get killed to free humanity?
>>
>>19011400
More specifically, it wants humanity to take charge for themselves, which is why its final directive was to open the way to the surface, and why IBIS does the same at the end of Silent Line. A major theme in AC3 is that people and humanity as whole were getting too reliant on a super AI managing their lives, hence why Crest, Mirage, Fanfare, and Huntress all try to stop you from reaching the Controller even though it's becoming abundantly clear that their complacency was going to get them killed. Just look at how Crest ultimately resigns themselves to death because the Controller "wills it." In reality, it's forcing them to take action.

The very opening of the game even hints the Controller's endgame real goal:
>The Controller handled the major decisions of everyone's life. People took it for granted that The Controller would handle every aspect of their lives for them. Under the rule of The Controller, people lived safe, yet uninspired lives of a promised prosperity.
>>
How dead is AC:VD? Just asking, I'm gonna fish up my 360, you see.

Also NA server.
>>
>>19011390
I wonder if the Controller and IBIS were in contact with each other, or if even aware of the existence of another Layered.
>>
Silent Line would be the perfect AC game if
>total equipped weight did not affect booster effectiveness as much or at all
>if the fastest booster went to 25000
>if there were even more reskin variants of weapons where there is such a need (found myself wishing for a lightweight version of the starting missile launcher, for example, which seems like it should've been a hurr-durr, among other examples)
>if maximum leg weights were more generous
>if tuning from LR was included
>if there were a function in the AI Arena to fight against custom ACs with pre-programmed AI sets (they could've got these just by playtesting the AI Arena functions)
>making every map available for AI Arena
>port-to-port multiplayer with a server browser
>up to eight players in multiplayer
>more arena/multiplayer maps
>an in-game map editor using assets from the game
>a mode where you play in procedurally generated missions on procedurally generated maps
>an expert mode which quarters your AP and doubles all damage given and recieved
>co-op missions
>the option to choose which soundtrack you hear, with the soundtracks from every game as an option
>parts from the other AC games ported over
That's all that really comes to mind right now.

There's an old asian folk myth that birds will push its fledglings out of their best in order to force them to fly or die. This is why the Controllers of both Layereds are named after birds, like DOVE and IBIS. The supercomputer housed within the Raven's Nest likely follows the same trend, as it gives R as its name in the emails it sends, standing for RAVEN.

Sorry, I should have clarified. Nexus and Nine Breaker have blurry graphics because of some odd graphical choice From made. ACs look great in the Garage but then everything is blurry as shit in actual missions. Last Raven has it too (you can see the effect on Portable) but whatever's happening on >>19013675 has made the visuals crystal clear. If I had to choose between crisp graphics and whatever the fuck From thought they were doing in Nexus-LR, I know what I'd much rather use.

The accuracy in Last Raven is too video gamey. Too much spread on every weapon. The only weapon I can truly count on to consistently take down enemy ACs is a laser blade. Nothing else is reliable. Nothing hits like it should. Nothing works like it should. It's sad, because LR is more generous than SL with leg weight, and there's more parts. A single rifle alone was enough to take down enemy ACs in SL, now it's not accurate enough to hit anything while also evading enemy fire. SL rifles were nearly perfect, LR's are garbage.

At point blank. At point blank, it's harder to evade, harder to track, and opens you up to laser blade spam. Blades are reliable, because if you can line the variables up right every time, than it will consistently work every time. It doesn't have shit spread or shit accuracy. It's mostly static, only variables are exterior.

It would help if you could explain what the designs are meant to convey first. That's particularly important when choosing between very early concepts. One could look best from a glance but my opinion could change depending on what the design is supposed to represent.

>>
>>19021249

>>
>>19021327
The designs are meant to combat mechs filling a role similar to standard MTs, but with various weapon modules that can be equipped depending on the mission. I'm most interested in what is most aesthetically pleasing, rather than practicality, though.
>>19021452
Yeah, I realized that about half way though making #2, lol. The Madcat and Timberwolf is what you're thinking of.
>>19021449
The fundamentals are the same, be skilled at dodging enemy attacks, and focus on having good energy management to facilitate said dodging, and to close, or widen the distance between your enemy depending on how you like to fight. Turning speed of the legs is always a crucial stat. Is there something in particular you're finding difficult?
>>
>>19021459
>I'm just barely getting by with a light AC by circle strafing
Youre doing it wrong. Jump and boost over them then quick turn with the turn boosters. You can do the same thing by boosting towards to their flank and using your turn boosters.

That's the real trick since those two often go together. Without context, I'd say it's a toss-up between 2 and 3, but now that I know they're meant to be modular grunts, 2 wins by a landslide. I can see it working like the flexible construction vehicles in Last Raven.
>>
>>19021597

>>

You also get to fight against some of these in a different mission, if I recall correctly.
>>
>>19021491
>Is there something in particular you're finding difficult?
Honestly, abit of everything. Especially AC vs AC. I've come back to the series multiple times, each time playing abit better than before (beat all of them too), but it's always a struggle and I wouldn't say that I am good at it.
First time I changed the controls to something more familiar, but did not get far and got dropped it.
Came back some years later, actually learned to use the default controls and became more familiar with the general structure of bunny hoping, weapon dropping, etc. But then I ended up cheesing everything through combination of nuking the enemy while they are distracted by a different attack.
Then I taken a break, and came back refreshed and improved abit with using variety of weapons... but it's always a marginal improvement after a long break. It's just... I think I struggle most with the fundamentals, even in 4+5 (which were much easier, especially 4A).

>>19021249
Evangel is a cunt, taken me forever to clear this one.
>>
>>19021491
>Turning speed of the legs is always a crucial stat. Is there something in particular you're finding difficult?
Different anon but I just beat AC1 after not playing since I was a kid years ago. Since I know things like bhoping and strafing now I found it easier than I remember as a kid and cleared Floating Mines on my first try this time. But one problem I kept running into was keeping track of the lockbox when it was halfway off my screen when air strafing. This isn't usually a problem except for against other ACs, like the only time I got close to losing the mission against Sledgehammer at the end of the game and I only won at like 200ish AP. The only real solution I could come up with was to do the first person view trick as the lockbox is always in view.
>>
>>19022243
I recommend using arms with a high maneuvarability/melee stat, optional parts that increase the size of your lockbox, and make sure youre using the proper FCS for your weapon type. Also using incompatible weapon types in each arm/shoulder like a sniper rifle and machine gun in the other arm will decrease the size of your lockbox. Turn boosters will also help you get a lock on your enemy before they get one on you.
>>
>>19021449
So the first step to gitting gud in classic Armored Core is to Always Be Bunnyhopping. Even if you don't have much a clue about how to build your AC, bunnyhopping goes a long way to extending your survivability by minimizing wasteful expenditure of energy while maximizing your movement to juke enemy targeting.

Independent of either learning what every stat does for your build, or just raw cheesing with the general purpose goodstuff like "obligatory high capacity machinegun that seemingly breaks the difficulty curve in every game you acquire it," if you learn at least how to bhop like a coked up Quake deathmatcher you'll go far in old Armored Core.

It's technically possible, in the sense that it's also technically possible to program Flappy Bird into a SNES running Super Mario World via arbitrary code execution, which is to say you can mangle all sorts of code into all sorts of results if you don't mind doing some utterly hardcore overkill reverse engineering bullshit that would make flat out reconstructing the game as a native PC executable look more appealing.

The only value in trying to do it in emulation is in the pursuit of proving it feasible on native hardware, and I don't see the PS360 taking too well to the additional rendering at sufficiently high framerates that VR kinda requires, not without making AC4A look like giant robot Silent Hill at least.
>>
>>19029586
>>but doesn't know if it's technically possible to begin with
I mean I have coding ability, but I've never worked with emulators before and dont know how the 7th gen emus run. I do know that dolphin supports VR, but concievably you could change where the camera is positioned and maybe swap out whatever the current hud is with something more appropriate for VR with sone trickery.

Obviously the 7th gen emulators aren't anywhere near done, so that's why I specified in the future.

I don't have any exact numbers, but my personal anecdote is that it did about as well as Armored Core does on its own, right down to reviewing poorly for anyone not already into mech action games to begin with.

What didn't help was that it came out literally a week before Link's Awakening. I mean, I grew up with LA-DX, but there's an entire generation of people who weren't even alive at the time that Link's Awakening first came out, so the choice of a "brand new" Legend of Zelda game kinda takes priority no matter what. It's the ultimate cockblock when trying to shill for DXM.

You could torture someone with the daytime garage theme of LR.
>>
>>19032572
It did much better on steam half a year later.
>>
>>19037094
What? Why? It's a good theme.
>>
>>19037434
It's really grating and repetitive. SL's garage theme was much better.
>>
>>19038566
>Artificial Sky II
>not the pinnacle of grating repetitiveness
>>
For me, it's Roundabout. Closest one to the undiscussed pinnacle that is Shape Memory Alloys.
>>
>>19038566
To you, maybe. I liked it.

LRp works online over Hamachi with PPSSPP, but runs about half-speed and desyncs often. Just stick with PCSX2 LR over Hamachi if you want stable matches. Kai works too if you have real consoles.

The track that plays during Nineball's defeat cutscene is the same one that plays during the original Armored Core's intro cutscene where the AC is being assembled.
It started with an AC being built, it ended with an AC being dismantled.

Bruh I have all the platforms and I'm just too spoiled
>PS2 games are too low res
>PS360 games are too low FPS
>Emulation is pain in the ass
Why can't we just have a goddamn port of ANY old AC to a modern platform?
I'm not even asking for remake, just port the fucking thing with increased resolution and framerates, anything.
>>
>>19041393
>too low res
get a CRT
>>
>>19041393
Because the game arent popular enough to warrant the trouble, dark souls 1 has gotten rerelease and a remake on its popularity alone, demons souls, as the "original" game is getting a remake too, even metal wolf, after all this years, manage to get a official PC and international release on meme power alone, but AC has nothing of that as a franchise, no even on japan, soo dont expect someone bothering to even bring the idea of making PC ports of the classics to FROM because nobody cares.
>>
>>19041924
From is also locked in GRRM's dungeon with Elden Ring so they've got no manpower to spare doing it themselves.

And on top of that the average AC dates to the era of Fromsoft games that would be kinda a pain in the ass to scale to other platforms unless you don't care about things blowing up the way Dark Souls PtD did back in the day.

Essentially it's the epitome of "well we have nothing else to do" side work, you'd have to catch them at a real lull in productivity for it to happen.
>>
>>19041943
While I havent try to emulate the games yet myself, I have seen many posts about things improving with emulation on certain game. I guess the best hope would some popular streamer that plays obscure/old games to get into it and generate enough meme wandagon for FROM to even consider the idea, even if they just release a PC port of formula front, selling it as a "multiplayer fighting mecha battle arena" kind of thing
>>
>>19041963
First off I'm real skeptical of the emulation because Fromsoft games have a very particular way of shitting themselves when run beyond their understood parameters, so even something as simple as jacking up framerate can cause weird collision hoohah that you'd want to go over with a fine toothed comb if able.

Second, good lord do not try to push Formula Front for that purpose, it is a program battle game pure and simple and to advertise it as anything else is a recipe for people bouncing right the fuck off of it, it is very much not a good reference point for the AC gameplay loop.

That said, word of mouth was always AC's best advertiser, or hell any mech action game benefits from grassroots efforts like that.

Maybe if someone were to yell at Sega to figure out how Chromehounds' servers were implemented, so as to kerjigger some kind of revival effort...
>>
>>19041979
Is probably easier to try and replicate on a 1:1 scale chromehounds from the scrath, than to get into any videogame talk with SEGA
>>
>>19041979
>That said, word of mouth was always AC's best advertiser
Is hard to promote with this, when all the games are old, problematic to emulate, and in today's trends, with basically non existent multiplayer scene, all this on top of the accursed "mecha" genre
>>
>>19042014
Modern Sega is crazy uncle tier right now, don't count them out.

>>19042025
Well there's the other route, hype up Daemon X Machina and make sure to go #ArmoredCoreWhen until it trends somewhere and Fromsoft maybe finally takes the hint.

Though I dunno if DXM is stream safe now, since there was a period where it used to get arbitrarily content struck which did a bit of a number on its shill-ability.
>>
>>19042055
>Daemon X Machina
Make it appear on smash!

Jokes aside, the game has some flaws that make it really hard for even me to shill genuinely, mostly the parts farming and how incredible bland and generic lost characters where, I am willing to give it a pass on the limited part variety if compared to AC, since as a new game and all that.
>>
>>19042081
It did get on the Spirit board for a bit, yknow.
>>
>>19042092
Lots of thing got into the board anon
>>
>>19042121

You get like 5 different ways to bludgeon your enemy though so it balances out.
>>
>>19042025
>all this on top of the accursed "mecha" genre
Why is it accursed?
>>
>>19042247
Mecha as of now, is basically a dad tier genre in the eyes of many, shit that only oldfags from the 90 or early 2000 care about, the only mecha franchise that is relevant on the mainstream scene is Gundam, even on gachas, no mecha musume game has seen any real success
>>
>>19042247
You basically cant advertise something as of the mecha genre without making many people instantly lose interest, when it comes to sci fi, you are either a jedi or a space marine to have any relevancy, or extremely humanlike robots
>>
>>19042349
Or you're space ninjas.
DE fought tooth and nail to make Warframe happen even as they were constantly told how unmarketable it would be, though honestly Warframe is one of those great anomalies in videogame marketing.
>>

>when it comes to sci fi, you are either a jedi or a space marine

>>
>>19042334
>>19042349
I see. I wasn't really aware of the fact that most people hate this kind of stuff. Would explain why whenever I shill Armored Core to my friend, he lazily compares it to Transformers and changes the subject.
>>
>>19042373
I wouldnt say hated, just ignored, there isnt any real interest

>>19042379

This is killing me, I can beat the living daylights out of Evangel, bolt, zuben and rimfire but I can't finish this mission. I hate vola-volant.

Anyone know how to get Evangel in EX Arena in Nexus?
I've done it once, but I don't remember how.
Pretty sure he replaces Omega.
>>
>>19048268
This has been asked before and it's been bothering me since, because I had no idea you could even get Evangel in Nexus's arena and now I want to know how to get him too.
>>
>>19048458
There's a similar question I have about Merc / Wily Tank as well.
Killing her in the mission with the Crest duo ACs doesn't make her spawn in the Extra Arena.
Also there is a way to kill Dr.? / Brainwash in one of the later missions, but damned if I know how to get him to spawn, it seems random.
