is this the black sheep of UC Gundam?
>>
>>18775478
No
>>
>>18775478
No, that's G Saviour.
>>
>>18775495
is G-Saviour even canon?
>>
>>18775500
It's not -not- canon. It kind of just exists in its own vacuum because it takes place so far out into UC.
>>
>>18775478
Late UC is a black sheep in general because nothing in it really took off except for Crossbone, and that's relative because it's still only a manga.
Victory Gundam has some really good shots, but half of them got ripped off by Evangelion so you could just view them there. It also has some good robot fights where Tomino shows off his directing skills, but the animation isn't as good as ZZ, CCA, or F91, where you can also see this. Mech and ship designs are interesting and, well, unique. It's the plot and characters that really drag this one down.
>>
>>18775520
I really wish we had more late UC stuff. Come one sunrise flesh out this part of the timeline instead of cramming as much as you possibly can into the Zeon conflicts.

That is a very nice way of putting it.

This
A disbanding federation, many small militias appearing, different approaches to newtype technologies emerging, Jupiter forces, and a high tech level that could really be pushed far
It's an untapped gold-mine potential wise, yet people keep trying to force all of this shit into OYW side spin-off mangas/MSVR's that simply don't work well with it

honestly that actually looks kinda cool, but then again my favorite mecha is the Hygogg from 0080 so I'm probably autistic to an unspecified degree
>>
>>18775478
Absolutely. That's why nips couldn't care less about late UC.

Wings of Light, episode 39
>>
Victory Gundam is so weird. It feels relatively dark and out of tone compared to the rest of the UC.
>>
>>18777397
What a retard. It was obvious you were just saying some dumb shit.
>>
>>18777538
?
>>
>>18776805
Does it need fleshing out? Isn't part of the point with F91 and Victory that it's been a long time since there has been a conflict?
>>
>>18777845
CROSSBONE
CROSSBONE
>>
>>18777903
I was a little surprised when I read Crossbone. I went into it expecting it to finish the story of F91, only to find that it is actually about a war 10 years later.

Kind of like watching the first Original Series compliation movie then skipping straight to Zeta.
>>
>>18777512
>It feels relatively dark and out of tone compared to the rest of the UC.

It didn't feel significantly darker than Zeta to me.
>>
>>18775478
thats clearly a bird of somesort
>>
>>18775520
The thing is Tomino had larger plans for late U.C because F91 was originally going to be a full 52 episodes but 1 movie and Victory (which was supposed to end the franchise and recycled most ideas from F91) made late U.C forgotten for the most part
>>
>>18778117
And at the very least it has a far more optimistic ending. I swear all the complaints about Victory being too dark/edgy are by people who haven't even watched the showm
>>
>>18775520
>except for Crossbone
>>
>>18777397
Thanks. Gonna go rewatch now.
>>
>>18775500
Saying that G-Saviour is not canon would imply that they acknowledge its existence as part of the Gundam franchise.
On the other hand, I want model kits of this movie/game. The Mobile Suits are so fucking sexy.
I want a fucking HGUC MW-Raid
>>
>>18778117
>>18779034
I don't know.
>Uso being 13 and a trained soldier by his parents
>Public execution
>There's some weird uncanny stuff like Marbet's wedding imo.
>One of the main villain gets exiled in space
>Uso and the kids are living alone with hardly any adult guidance
>The deaths of the Shrike team early on
>Earth team aren't actual jerks this time and their deaths hit hard.

The setting also felt heavier and more..homely?
The tone just felt off compared to the other UC shows. I'm not too sure how to explain it. It felt like more of a rebellion story compared to a space war story like the others. If that makes sense. I guess it's more of they were more of an underdogs while the AEUG and stuff were pretty well off and could handle the titans. I'm not a critic so my apologies for not being good with my words.
>>
>>18776972

All of that is only something to expand on if the people creating said speculative late UC series build off of the stuff in Crossbone. Which they may not, since it's still just a manga, even if it's a relatively popular one.
>>
>>18781199
I wouldn't mind if they did something new in the late UC other than Crossbone, but given that every new UC show since Unicorn has been an adaptation of a pre-existing I doubt that'll happen.
>>
>>18780307

Feels like classic Tomino Gundam to me.

Anyway, I really wish they had expanded on late UC, I'm still hoping they'll go back and expand F91 into a series one day and make an anime adaption of Crossbones.

I just get really tired of retreading the OYW and having Feds Vs Zeon all the time. It's probably why I love Victory Gundam so much and find F91 interesting.

Side 3 turned into the Principality of Zeon.
Side 4 became Cosmos Babylonia.
Side 2 gave rise to the Zanscare Empire.

How long until the other sides start some shit?
>>
>>18778117
>>18779034

When I started the UC marathon back in 2009 Zeta is my favourite gundam show back then. The ending make me feel kinda depressed abit seing Kamille preparing his body in a suicide attack to finish off Pappy.

When I finally landed on V, I have to admit the first 4 episode made me confused abit but the whole theme of the show is quite dark and unlike Zeta where I feel depressed near the end of the show, In V i felt halfway trough peak moment when Usso Witnessing his mum got decapitated up until the Katejina scene at the end.

Also the whole Earth is fucked up and the Federation are actually doing something and almost everyone on Earth are in a last stand moment to face off the "great evil" is a pretty dark theme to begin with. The whole desperation and self sacrifice in the show make the show quite dark to me compare to zeta Although I have to admit some of the self sacrifice and death in V is kinda forced but still

>How long until the other sides start some shit?

The early days of the Zanscare War alot of the colonies are on each other shit, hence the whole "Age of warring space states" the only one came out top was the Zanscare while the others that held a degree of independence are the Macedonia Colony. Can't remember which side they came from.

>>
>>18776944
God I fucking love the Zanscare Empire, everything they make is just so dumb but still effective.
>>
>>18785346
But ZZ is good... plus, Unicorn is basically a sequel OVA of ZZ.
>>
>>18785320

I thought the whole "Age of Warring Space States" thing was post Victory, not pre-Victory? That it happened when the Federation finally collapses, and couldn't maintain even the fiction of order, leading to all the Sides scrambling for supremacy.
>>
>>18785844
Black sheep doesn't mean bad. But unicorn was pretty bad.
>>
>>18785932

It doesn't necessarily mean bad, but it can it normally is used to imply something negative rather than just something odd or different to the rest.
>>

>>18785945

I'm surprised Uso and the V2 haven't shown up in Dust. Then again, things have decayed so much by then they'd pretty much break the setting.

I remember back when I hated Phantom.
I saw at as one of those "Unknown MS that did a version of a much more famous animated Gundam's gimmick before it did" that pop up every once in a while.
I blame VS. for finally making me give it a chance and now I really like it.
>>
>>18793344

I don't hate the Phantom line or Hasegawa for making a mobile suit that predates/succeeds the V2 with their own Wings of Light, or even for trying to make it's versions look cooler; that's the purpose of the designs after all, including the animated stuff. The Zeta was designed to build on the RX-78-2 and/or Mk II and be cooler than them, the ZZ on top of that etc. etc. What I hate is that it took the V2's Minovsky drive gimmick and made it a super power in the setting in a way that doesn't really gel with anything else before or after it (presuming you think of G-Saviour and/or Gaia Gear as after it), by making the Minovsky drive not just an engine that allowed flight through a ramjet like engine, but something that was capable of near light speed.
>>
>>18793370
Granted, the V2 remained the most capable when it comes to WoL technology; the only machine that came close to it were the F99 record Breaker.

The rest suffers from overheating due to feature bloat from the I-Field, some of them have their own methods of cooling for extend use of the drive (like pic related, which can use the phantom light for up to an HOUR).

Actually the Zanspine was on the same level as the V2 in terms of it's WoL capability, with added functionality as removable beam fans.

G-Gen games place it weaker than the V2.

In the actual games, like stat wise? Every source I read about it says it's stronger than the base V2 by virtue of the equipment it has built in.

>>
>>18785340
Basically this. Cosmo Babylonia, Jupiter Empire, Zanscare Empire... all these were basically Zeon in everything but name. While we've always had Zeon counterparts in other Gundam series, it's really noticeable in the late UC era because it's where the original Zeon existed.
