How come none of the AUs give companion mobile suits like the Guntank and Guncannon are to the Gundam?
>>
>>18765352
The Devil Guntank was too powerful. They had to scrap it for a happy ending in G Gundam.
>>
>>18765352

Several settings give other characters close to the protagonist their own mobile suits, which is essentially the same thing. Wing, X and 00 are about teams using Gundams, Destiny has several others on the Minerva using mobile suits etc. The Guncannon and Guntank were just supposed to be other mobile suits in the Victory line, secondary to, but also technologically advanced and toyetic like the Gundam.
>>
>>18765352
Gundam types sell better than Guntank and Guncannon types. Therefore, to make more money, sell more Gundam types and make them the companions instead. Simple as that.

Grunts are an afterthought unless they're Zakus, which also print money. This is part of why why there are many many many Zaku variants Not!Zakus printing money is sadly not a given, but whenever it happens they receive similar treatment to the Gundam types and get more merchandise.
>>
why did they take guntank out of the movie
>>
>>18765352
Most of the series simply have the artillery or "heavy" role taken up by another MS among the main cast, whether it's another Gundam or a support unit with some hover capability. And if it's a Gundam or a Gundam-looking MS, it's more likely to sell.

There are some Guntank/Guncannon like MS that exist mostly as mook units though. Wing did have the Tragos and the Desert hoverunit as the "Guntank" like MS, but with hover units instead of treads. 00 also had the Realdo Hover Tank. SEED has the BuCUE, LaGOWE, and ZuOOT on ZAFT's side for treaded MS.

The only improvement I would make to the Guntank is to replace the dinky rocket-gun arms with regular Guncannon ones.

That way it could use beam rifles like its two brothers and have superior mid-range firepower.
>>
>>18768340
Why would you need beam rifles when your hands fire 4 short range blasts rather than two? That's a downgrade
>>
>>18768401
The Guntank's arms aren't beam weapons, they are small quad rocket launchers.

Being able to use beam rifles is a massive upgrade in firepower, having a beam weapon in rifle form is one of the biggest game changers of the Gundam in terms of mobile suit warfare.
>>
>>18768401

There was a big change in how executives saw things between the 70s and 90s. Back in the 70s and early 80s, they thought multiple "hero" units would devalue the main hero, which is why super robots only had the titular hero robot and then obvious "side-kicks" which were visually different and also weaker (also why Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger for example could only costar for a few episodes).

You can see this changing a bit in Zeta and ZZ already when the MkII, Zeta and ZZ all appear together.

By the 90s, they actually saw the potential in a line up of "main heroes" with similar designs where fans could gravitate to different characters and suits.
>>
>>18785032
That's pretty unique; most would still mount the turret onto the back of the MS and work a transformation on just lying down. At least with this, the shield could still be raised up over an outcropping and used that way instead of getting on all 4s and having a back-mounted turret peek out.
>>

>>18768460
It's a pity the best 1/144 kit we have of it is the HG from 2000. A machine that iconic needs an RG or at the very least a HG Revive.
>>
>>18785238

I find it quite a lazy way of doing it, personally. It's literally just lifting the top off the tank to use the thing, unaltered, as a shield. I'd prefer a back mounted one, honestly. Especially since that would mean the turret housing could act as thrusters if the cannon mounted to the back, which would give it extra mobility in it's transformed/tank mode too.
>>
The guncannon reminds me a lot of those real early zoids models for some reason

RMV-2 Gun Tank III

Improved version of RMV-1. It is an aircraft that tried to solve the same aircraft, which was weak in a single anti-MS battle, by mounting a beam gun. This is an improvement plan unique to a gun tank vehicle powered by a fusion reactor.

Since the E-cap technology is more advanced than during the war, it is possible to operate the beam gun to some extent even with a small output of the Gun Tank II. In addition, the generator has been strengthened, etc., making it a heavy-duty type overall.

External appearance, the gun of Tank II is replaced by a beam type, and the backpack is enlarged. Since it has strong implications as a prototype, only a few machines were manufactured as beam gun specifications on the Gun Tank II production line, and the number is not large at all. It seems that full-scale production has not been achieved due to the Army's intention to concentrate the operation of beam weapons on MS.
Around this time, the Army, who had been sticking to tanks, gradually acknowledged the usefulness of the land battle type MS, and it can be said that the focus was shifting to MS. If it is an MS beam weapon that can share equipment with the Space Force, the cost can be kept low in combination with the postwar armament mood. Therefore, Guntantan III is finished with only a few prototypes.

IMO they didn't have to, the Gundam/Cannon/Tank combo is pretty deeply pegged to the background story of the RX78's development, so analogues in future titles would have had to concoct a similar background story for it or at least a story that serves the same function.
I liked Gundam SEED where instead of that, they had Mu La Flaga flying around in mobile armors like the Moebius Zero and the Skygrasper and the latter could carry a bunch of Okawara backpacks to Strike that kind of fits the mood of the original Core Block system but applied more frequently and deliberately in the story.

The Guntank was death on treads.

It actually could have been a fine space-type fire support unit if they had just given it some sort of rocket pod attachment that could swap-in for the tank treads using the coreblock system.
The V Project suits didn't actually make proper use of that gimmick, it was mostly just an excuse to sell more toys that combined with the Gundam.

Gundam has no respect for artillery.
If it isn't a direct-fire weapon they don't care, even snipers get more play because they have to aim straight at the target even if its done at long range.

Minovsky particles might makes things more difficult due to interfering with technology but there's nothing preventing an in-direct bombardment being organised old school

Not much, since he almost certainly isn't and that anon is probably full of shit and saying something because he dislikes Fukui and not because he has any idea if it's real or not. Fukui himself has said in interview that he didn't have as much control over Unicorn as you'd think, and had to include stuff or make concessions with other staff during the animation as well as that it was decided it'd be animated before he was even hired, so there's no reason he'd have any kind of say over whether or not an entire project is animated.

How the fuck does anyone fit in the 08th MS team Magella's cockpit? The OG is pretty comfy. The mini magella from IGLOO would be a tight fit but still doable. But that lil dude on the right? Who can fit in there? The guy who played R2D2? Did the Zeon get so desperate their use of child soldiers extended to toddlers and the Micro Magella was made for their small bodies?
>>
>>18834673
I think the middle version works best. It might just be the "golden mean" effect but the first one is way too big when compared to a Zaku while the last one is just ridiculously teeny.
>>
>>18848716

The smallest Magella there is shorter than a main battle tank like the M1 Abrams, but wider and is probably about the same height as a regular tank even if you cut it's height in half to account for just the lower portion. A regular main battle tank like the M1 Abrams is only about 2 meters tall too, so if a normal adult can fit in that, then there's no reason that they would't fit inside that Magella. Which is shorter than most tanks, but is also wider than they generally.
>>
>>18848833
Magellas aren't meant to be the size of conventional tanks, they are meant to be oversized mobile Anti-MS Guns because Zeon can't into conventional warfare designs.
>>
>>18848848

None of which means that the redesigned one isn't accommodating of adult pilots.
>>
>>
Tanks are jobbed in Gundam because if they received the same attention and technology as humanoid weapons there would be no reason for them

If this was canon it would render MS obsolete on Earth.
>>
the guntank comes off as a artillery suit then a battle tank like the xamel.

Based on this kit, which is clearly based on the Igloo2 version, it seems somewhat implausible that people could fit in the 08 version, since the dudes they have for this kit are already pretty snug inside that cockpit. You can't compare the Magella to a real MBT because real MBTs don't have that ridiculous flying turret in which a gun, computers and controls, and rocket thrusters are jammed, and then a person has to go in there too. It's possible but I think they would be way more cramped than an Abrams in which the crew sit in a compartment inside the turret ring, so they have both the turret ring and the hull to exist in, whereas in the Magella the driver/mg gunner at the bottom has his compartment but the commander/gunner must exist in the Magella Top.
>>
>>18852251
Abrams cross section for reference. Assuming that it's of comparable size to the 08th MST Magella, someone could possibly fit in in that cockpit, but they wouldn't be able to move much, and there is no way in hell that thing is packing the same 175mm cannon the OG Magella has.
>>
>>18852276

There's a guy sitting in that practically prone, and the flying turrent is lifted directly off an aircraft and has it's own cockpit, so someone can definitely sit in there.
>>
>>18852332
Are you saying there's crewmember left behind in the body of the Magella tank while the cockpit flies away to safety?

What cunt designed that.
>>
>>18852457

The same cunts that designed mobile suits to not have any kind of escape system, presumably. There's lots of military (and civilian) platforms with no real escape system, and if they suffer catastrophic damage to part of them, the whole thing is fucked. It's not like the Magella top would be a foolproof escape vector anyway. What happens if the top gets fucked, but the body doesn't? What happens if the back half of the Abrams is kersploded but the front is okay?
>>

Magella tanks are one-man affairs. Once the top detaches the bottom is totally useless and inert, it's why the Zaku Tank was created- you got a big supply of useless but intact Magella bases and Zakus that lost their legs, so in the end the zeeks improvised and cooked up the Zaku Tank.

>What happens if the back half of the Abrams is kersploded
Anon, are you one of those kids that read up on the Merkava Mk.IV because it has an angular turret? And now you think all modern tanks have doors in the back of the hull?
First off the Abrams engine is in its own isolated compartment in the rear.
Secondly, depending on whether you still have traverse, or the time to unscrew some turret-basket screens, it's possible to escape out the driver's hatch at certain turret positions. Maybe you meant to imply the TC and Loader's hatches are not viable.
>>
>>18795459
Would it have three cockpits à la super-sentai mecha?
If it did have three cockpits, would they be distributed or would they be clustered together?
Or would it be one cockpit just for the hero?
Or would it be one pilot plus one or two AI ghost-girl copilots?
>>
>>18859666

The Core Block system is made for it.
>>
>>18859683
Touché
Okay, but the cockpit positions should correspond to some theme. Maybe GunTank cockpit will be uppermost to see farthest, GunCannon middle, and Gundam in the chest or heart.
There will be an AI ghost-girl anyway. She'll pop her head through walls and shrink to read circuitry where the pilots can't. She'll also spread gossip between the three pilots, and excuse it as "coordinating all three systems."

I didn't mean to imply any of that; what I meant to imply was that the Abrams, or anything for that matter, can still be catastrophically damaged in a way that doesn't allow any escape and escape vectors are only ever viable in a limited number of scenarios, so having them at all is nice, but not essential by any means.

>>
>>18867871
Why'd they never take the G-Bull's cannons off and give them to the Gundam as Hyper Mega Rifles
>>
>>18867935
Probably because they need to be hooked up to a reactor and the Gundam didn't exactly have a ready and compatible port for those weapons.

By the time of Victory, weapons are portable and modular enough to do that where they can literally just grab a cannon backpack and interface with it to fire from an improvised handhold.

What if they made a Gundam AU series where ALL MS have integrated weapons instead of hand-carried weapons?

You could still have melee combat, just the melee weapons would be built into the arms, could even have a gun arm with a beam saber under it in the style of a bayonet.

Seshou Agata Boarding MS

Appeared in the comic "Mobile Suit Gundam PLACE TO BE" by Yuno Sono in the magazine "Gundam Ace" December 2016 special edition "Gunpla Ace". The name is unknown.

Lieutenant Seshew Agata, who has deafness at the private military company "Widow Makers", is on board. Initially it was a tank form, but it was transformed into 4 legs, and it became an MS form that closely resembles Jim Stryker, carrying a twin beam spear.

At the request of General Xu, commander of the Federal Army's East Turkistan Army, a single plane rushed into the cave to prevent a federal separatist missile attack on Chongqing during the war. Destroy and neutralize TOS (Tactical Command and Control System). The age is unknown, but Widow Makers also operates a Nemo equipped with Chobham armor.
