I expected nothing and as instead richly rewarded. What books did you think you were gonna hate but ended up loving?
>>
All of Donna Tartt’s books

Really? I heard her second was meh at best. People tend to love or hate the other two
>>
>>22504852
I wouldn't even read something if I thought I wouldn't enjoy it
>>
I've been gifted a few Grisham books and after how amateurish the earlier law books were I was very surprised that Camino Island was actually an entertaining little book.
>>
>>22505036
Well I assumed I wouldn't like it but still gave it a chance, as I tend to do. If I continued to not like it, it would have joined my DNF pile.

the turner diaries. it didn't take itself too seriously and had a wholesome message of taking action and overcoming all odds.

Me too. CITR hits like no other and I expected it to be shit just by reading what it was about.
>when Holden fantasizes about having a cabin in the woods and pretending to be deaf mute and get a deaf mute wife
>when he sees a child walking alongside his parents humming a song
>when he goes into his sister's school and gets mad the word "fuck" painted on a wall or desk
>when he says getting gifts almost always makes him sad
fuck I just got teary eyed by writing this. Every time I remember shit from the book in public I must restrain myself from crying like a little bitch.

Catcher is exquisite

>The Elementary Particles
i thought i was about to experience cringe but got a 100% confirmation of my national socialist views instead
>>

I thought I'd hate Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney. I didn't love it but it was decent. It wasn't good enough to keep reading her books but I ended up with a copy of Beautiful World, Where Are You by accident so I read that one as well. It was absolutely terrible; all the negative things anons say about Rooney are dialed up to 11 in that book. Just shit.

>Dracula
I found it interesting and not badly written but the actual story is incredibly flimsy and nonsensical even within the guidelines set and moving the plot forward required time after time for the characters to act like complete retards in a way that you usually only see in bad television shows.

Gotta love how he realizes it and instead of changing anything just points out "btw these vampires are also kinda retarded" like 50 pages before the end.

Rooney is kind of a hack

>>
>>22509114
yes its a must read. just ignore the pornographic descriptions ... its a french thing and i interpret as some kind of diversion tactic anyways that keeps the normies from accessing the eugenics pilled anti-semitic structure underneath it all.
>>
>>22509162
i will tri yes yes
>>
>>22509209
good pay close attention to the names and physical description of the characters
>>

How did Elementary Particles confirm your right wing views? It is definitively anti-liberal but I wouldn't say it is reactonary. It rather reminded me of early USSR ideology of the "new soviet human".

bruno was based but it confirmed me that lookism and heightism is real
michel was kinda cringe and kind of a volcel desu which is cringe

its neo-reactionary doomerism. for every issue and wrong that appears in the book 20th century fascism could perscribe pretty simple and obvious solutions. houellebecq is a obscene french man though so in the tradition of suffering porn he must confess that this world is forever lost and unaccessible. look what consequences this has for all the characters and how michel finally solves this problem of the last man. for me houellebecq is a incel nazi and i amused everytime he tells the dumb public that you cant vote Le Pen or that Celine isn't that great of a writer. You see when he said that Celines anti-semitic pamphelets are so horrible because they are so good he didn't really mean it u know.

The main topics of the novel where how the natural world with its struggle and concurrence has to be overcome. Sexuality and gender, especially masculinity has to be annihilated. There are many passages about the cruelty of men and masculinity and the question "What are men even good for in civilized society?" is pronounced seriously. (The utopian world which is shown in a dream is a world of women and dogs.) The characters in Houllebecq's work are deeply mysoginistic and reactonary but they are also pathetic and loathsome not some kind of fascist heroes.

yeah and the antagonists also have jewish first names so spare me your reddit quotes dude.

>What books did you think you were gonna hate but ended up loving?
None as of the moment but I hope this will be the case for Moby Dick, I usually distant myself from something when it's too mainstream, also I think I've watched a film inspired by the original story so I hope the book is still rewarding to read once I bought it.
>>
>>22509371
What antagonists are you talking about? The only Jewish characters comming to mind are Tisserand in Extension du domaine de la lutte and Myriam in Soumission but they are hardly antagonists.
>>
>>22509383
best book ever written (by my measure, which is subjective)

maybe if u discuss a specific book with people u want to read that specific book in the first place.
