Is Sade right?

Peak Enlightenment.
>>
>>21800861
I mean it can't, but humans can. So what Sade is really saying is that people need others to control them.
>>
>>21800841
I agree, but it goes both ways. If you follow your primative impulses near me, I will be no guiltier in fucking you up than the earth is for its quakes.

Yes.

Sorry, I meant to say no.

Why not? If you want to...
>>
Like the others say, it runs immediately up against the fact that more than one person exists. For someone like De Sade to act on his impulses, in his own frame, is no more right or wrong than his fellow men to kill him or imprison him for acting on those impulses.

I can't stand the man, personally. If the people who stormed the Bastille had seen his writings and burned them along with their author the world would be better for it.
>>
>>21800841
The fact that 99% of people manage to make it through their lives without raping, killing, and torturing proves Sade wrong. He was just trying to justify his psychopathy to himself, probably because of some faint unconscious guilt.
>>
>>21800865
I feel like not letting you do that.

>>
>>21800841
Can someone give me a sincere explanation of why he's so renowned and talked about? I'll admit he's probably one of the most articulate of the depraved psychopaths that have existed, but that doesn't make his art or ideas worthwhile.
>>
>>21802516
He turned Rousseau's, Locke's, Voltaire's philosophy on their heads while writing literary peepeepoopoo rape porn in prison.
>>
>>21802531
>He turned Rousseau's, Locke's, Voltaire's philosophy on their heads
Did he really? I never got the impression that he was a particularly deep thinker.
>>
>>21800841
What is guilt but a superegoic feeling, the internalization of social control? A river can only be deemed guilty to the extent that there is a society which surrounds the river.
Maybe de Sade is too high on individualistic rhetoric if he thinks guilt can be escaped.
>>
>>21802297
you are retarded and live in a bubble, go outside you retard, violent crime is much more prevalent than what your shitty newscorp allows you to see
>>
>>21802592
It is an exceedingly small percentage of people who commit violent crime. Only a small fraction of the population has ever been incarcerated, and the majority of THAT population was not arrested for violent crime.

Your anecdotal experience is not data. Who's the retard now?
>>
>>21802539
Yeah most people will never read his work because of the pop-culture view that trickled down.
Rousseau, for example, believed that man was good while he still lived harmoniously in nature but degenerated as soon as civilization developed. De Sade mainly agrees but came to the opposite conclusion. He stated that being cruel is the natural state of man but civilization with its laws and religion has made man feeble.
Compare a robust tree that has grown in nature versus a feeble one in a garden where its branches are constantly pruned by a gardener.
A lot of professors of philosophy agree that he was a first rate, systematic philosopher but obviously have to disagree with his conclusions.
As for his literary impact, it was huge in the 19th ce with the poètes maudits, the edgy British literary figures that copied them in the late 19th ce, and exploded in the 20th when his 120 days of Sodom was first published for the mass public.

>Ok, I have an impulse to kill you for being a degenerate sodomite

>>
>gets his servant to pick up prostitutes from the city
>brings them to his chateau
>locks them in a room
>de sade walks in ass naked with a crucifex, some burning candles, and some whips
>starts shouting blasphemies to a bewildered prostitute
>starts jacking on the crucifex
>cums on it
>hands the crucifex to the girl and tells her to masturbate with it
>starts whipping her
>pours melted wax into her wounds
>calls in his servant
>tells her to bend over
>starts sodomizing her
>his servant starts sodomizing de sade
>all three climax together
>eat a nice cum shit oatmeal together
>prostitute starts crying
>servant hands her the money and tells her to stay quiet
>instantly runs to the authorities
>de sade escapes for the 17th time

The greatest failing of the French revolution was that they didn't hang this faggot from a streetlamp.

Oh no wait they beheaded people, right well they could've done that too, the queer would've probably enjoyed being strangled.

The entire French nation must learn that acting like a walking theatrical performance and spouting edgy opinions is not literature.

Violent crime against people is the second most common, with larceny, property damage and theft being the most common. I believe the total is that 25%-ish of convicts are in for some flavor of violent crime.

Most people hold the very incorrect view that a disproportionate amount of criminals are in prison for drugs and things like that--that's true in Federal prisons, which make up less than 20% of the actual prison population. If you kill five people but do it in the same state, you're not going to a federal prison, you're going to a state-level prison.
In state penitentiaries, which is where the other 85% of criminals go, it's Larceny/Theft/Property Damage at 60%,followed by violent crime, followed by everything else combined.

It's not as common as you'd think looking at footage from Detroit, but it's a pretty violent place out there. About 8% of the American population are convicted felons. If it's that high now, it was probably a lot worse in the past.

Advocating complete hedonism whilst on the receiving end of a society build on law and order which facilitated his education, wealth, and influence.

No different than any retard libertarian who doesn't want the rules to apply to them but wont move to the fucking woods.
>>
I love Sade threads. He would be smiling in glee knowing the massive seething he still inspires centuries later. Tradlarpers are such crybabies
>>
>>21803170
This is every single arc in desades life.
>>
>>21804200
He's actually notable for being pretty much the only libertine who *wasn't* a hypocrite; he sincerely wanted everyone, high or low, to live like he did, which comes across in his writings and the fact that he was a strong supporter of the Revolution.
>>
>>21804206
If he is aware of anything, he's too busy screaming in Hell to give it much thought.

But perhaps that is for the better. Nobody born before the 20th century would be capable of looking at the hellscape we have made of the modern world without being instantly consumed by despair. De Sade was a literate enough man that the absolute state of modern France would place him in irrecoverable catatonia.
>>
>>21803870
hahahha
>>
>>21804263
Sade would look at our modern elites and laugh his fucking ass off.
>>
>>21800841
de Sade's philosophy is 95% retarded and he was a degenerate freak, but every once in a while he had something worthwhile to say. Unfortunately, not that quote.
>>
>>21804275
He'd also look at you and see rape bait, not sure why you seem to care what he would have thought
>>
>>21802297
This and the fact that the majority of people don't enjoy sodomy, eating shit, drinking piss, sewing buttholes up, murdering their mother etc. Sade was 100% satire and the fact that he has "fans" such as these morons >>21802592 >>21804206 is hilarious to me.
>>
>>21804295
>Sade was 100% satire
yeah he was kidnapping and raping these prostitutes only ironically

No they don't, you pervert.
>>
>>21804236
>He's actually notable for being pretty much the only libertine who *wasn't* a hypocrite
>writes
You do realize writing is the result of massive public education, industrial products, and law abiding citizens? Look at India for a counterpoint where every third village is foreign. Again, this univocalism is from The Holy Bible being translated and creating tongues which now have something wortwhile to say instead of meaningless myths about demons.
>>
>>21804206
>He would be smiling in glee knowing the massive seething he still inspires centuries late
I don't think you get that I mourn over sinners and am never angry. God will punish them one way or another I just hope and pray for their correction. De Sade is just a pornographic mask for the lazy and immoral to hide their true mediocre perversity via pronounced hyperperversity. See Foucault.
>>
>>21804345
Alright, he's 75% satire. Kidnapping and raping is the mildest of the "simple passions" Sade talks about in 120 Days. Everything else he talked about is surely over-the-top satire. He was also, ironically, more of masochist.
>>
>>21804236
>he was a strong supporter of the Revolution.
All you have to do is read his letters to find out he was saving his own neck and always detested the mob.
>>
>>21803870
Police records and the witness statements all collaborate with this as being a typical night in sade's place.
>>
>>21804987
you are delusional if you think he wasn't wanking for the entire duration of the writing process
