Why has the quality of this board declined so much? It used to be full of interesting discussions and you could here and there find genuinely well-read and intelligent posters to engage with. Nowadays it's just zoomers who don't read posturing anonymously ad infinitum. I've had better luck finding good discussions on pl*bbit during the last few months than on this forsaken wasteland.

I'm done reading for today.I'm done with video games for today. It's still too early for bed.I'm bored out of my mind.So I picked out an episode of Night Hood to watch.Good god does this thing look both great and terrible at the same time. Why did it have to be set in late 30s?Why can't he be the usual thief everyone and their mother knows him to be?Why is it more about espionage and mafia than art and jewelry? Why is a teenage boy more familiar with shady bars than a reporter whose job is to know everything shady?Wouldn't be surprised if he sneaks out to go drinking there after she made him drink carrot juice again. Why does Karst have his men keep framing Lupin if he doesn't want Lupin to ruin his plans? Why is it even always Karst of all people? Why is Kelly even getting interviews from Karst in his building if he already had her kidnapped once and his men made several attempts at her life? How did Kelly, a reporter so absolutely useless at dealing with danger, manage to stay alive before Lupin spotted her?Why is french police so retarded it stops being funny soon? Why even bother giving pearls to Kelly if she is the type to dress as a man 24/7, including the evening at the opera? Speaking of the opera, it looked like two guys on a date. Three guys with Max. Grognard was probably counting his blessings he got to stay in the car.Why was Lupin's mother, the focal point of his characterization, completely ignored and replaced with his dad no longer being mediocre thief but rather secret agent of justice? Where the bloody hell even was that man when Titanic was sinking and his son had to be rescued by a random member of the staff? Why is nanny Victoire now uncle Victor? Why does so many people in this cartoon have red hair? It's still a very comfy cartoon, but Herlock Sholmes and Wilson were unironically the best part in all this, while appearing very little.

I keep falling for women I talk to online. Not in love, but just enough to care about them as if they were in my life for real. We talk on the phone, video call, share stuff about our lives and our days, and pleasure each other the best we can, and we enjoy each other. I don't feel bad about it because they're usually just as lonely as I am. But the day always comes where she finds a real man, not online, to give her the true experience of flesh that she wants and that I want. And it always hurts. And, you know, I have to stop once that happens because then I start to feel pathetic. Her being sexually active all of the sudden and old me still sitting behind his computer screen waiting for her to be online. I know I'm out once that happens. But it still hurts. I've been going through this same cycle for years, since I was a teen, and you never get numb to the fact that you aren't real to them, nor they to you. It's been years since I was attracted to someone I knew in the flesh. But, still, I do it to myself. It's fun. It's usually really good and fun while it lasts. And I feel cared about for a while. Almost like I have someone to go home to. In a way I do. Like something to look forward to when I get home besides a drab, echoing apartment that is just nothing but silence. Unloving, cold, heavy silence. Other than my loneliness, I'm starved for conversation. And I'm not talking about any of that water cooler bullshit that happens at work. I'm talking about real, interested, engaging conversation. The kind that exposes and connects you to people. There's nothing else to do other than talk to each other most of the time. It's sobering, really. We watch movies, play games, watch each other nut, but none of it comes before conversation. Like, a good conversation. Where you understand her and her you. Sometimes young men complain about how there is nothing left to discover in this world. But I would say to them that there is nothing more exciting left to discover than the intricacies of her life. Her wild plains, her canyons, her vast oceans. She is all more beautiful and surprising to me than all of the green outside my windows. And yet she and her life are intangible and are as temporary to me as every bit of nature. And when she inevitably finds her own way, I'll find my way on to the next one and the next one and the next one.
Why do I have this habit of sharing intimate thoughts in these threads? It has something of a religious ritual. WHO are you anyway. Pffft

He was in an engineering program and a member of engineering clubs in high school. He says it began during the pandemic. So my armchair speculation is that his social isolation is responsible for his mental condition. Something about internet use detatches people from reality. The tangible, physical world is divided from a pure mental existence which takes place online. The purely mental being, divorced from it's other half develops a bitterness which it then tries to bring back into physical reality. It's almost like a desperate attempt to reconncect with the physical.

I think the concept of a suburb has the potential to be quite wonderful. It doesn't need to be the sprawling sort of quasi-urban thing which most American suburbs are.Suburbs are where urban and rural living should collide. Choice is a sieve: selection from items of a list of possibilities according to some criterion. The identification of choice as the liberating operation of cognition is the biggest mistake in the history of Western thought. The problem of free will is solved with the realization that we don't have freedom OF the will, but freedom FROM the determination of the will, and this ability is granted by our ability to question. While choice is the selective aspect of cognition, questioning is the mutagenic: by following lines of inquiry we can arrive at new experiences and options to choose from. The question mark is the true symbol of freedom, a fact that is confirmed in the Western philosophical tradition which began with methodological questioning.
>>20369605This is the face of current /lit/, that nobody really tries to think outside the box and everything not understandable at first glance is either "schizo", "lowwit" or "pseud"Here is the simplification: humans see the world as entities, how do you know that those entities are "reality" and not just the way people make reality intelligible to them. What is the pretheoretical background of the consciousness of entities, and thus also the background to every philosophical question (is there a mind separate from the body, does God exist, is the red vase in front of me a hallucination), how do we get to understand the being of entities, and what is being? Thats why Nietzsche is above Husserl, because Husserl never asked these questions; his philosophy starts with the consciousness of entities, not with the conditions that allow this consciousness in the first place

Often times I regret caring too much about someone. You devote your time listening to them, doing your best in helping them and making them feel better, feel better seeing them happier, you cast your problems aside and talk about theirs in hopes it would lift their mood all the while expecting nothing in return... except, you do get something in return, just not as beautiful as you may think. You will be ignored for hours, or days even, only for them to hoist petty excuses and then seemingly only talk to you out of spite and guilt. The guilt they carry is that you don't mean much to them, but they feel morally obligated to treat you with slight kindness as not to come off as a total douche. A merciless cunt, if you will.In my case, it's a recurring pattern; one that's been going on for almost ever. Every friendship formed is unilateral, on my behalf and only my behalf. I do hate the fact that I have grown to be just like these people, cold and uncaring.

When I was a freshman I'd spend my days in the library just reading nonstop, but now the internet has turned my brain into mush. I barely read anymore and am incapable of thinking beyond a surface level. I have lost my sense of humor too. I used to be the goofy one in the family when I was young. Now nothing affects me one way or another. Like a vacuum cleaner has sucked out all the characteristics that made me myself leaving nothing behind. Now I live at home estranged from my family. You only have so much time on this earth and you're unlikely to actually like all of those at once. The person who wrote this list is invested in a religious, esoteric, and probably traditionalist side of philosophy. I'm almost certain they didn't read everyone they named. The emphasis on neoplatonism is unusual. If you like that stuff, go for it, it's awesome, but it's practically a different field altogether compared with Husserl/Heidegger. I think it's better to focus on the basic canon and then figure out a course for what you find more interesting/promising. It's better to chart as you go.Having actually gone through the program and read more than I needed to, here's what the actual basic history of philosophy curriculum list seems to be:Plato/Aristotle, Descartes, Hume, Kant. After Kant - Hegel, Nietzsche. There are spaces between these that can be filled by a number of options depending on interests. Philosophy of religion, existentialism, political philosophy, German idealism, or analytic philosophy.Past that it's sort of an open field, or at least, an unsettled canon. What I mentioned are just the main centers of gravity. They're not my favorite philosophers, they are where the influence and context actually lie. There are spaces between these that can be filled by a number of options depending on interests. Philosophy of religion, existentialism, political philosophy, German idealism, or analytic philosophy. So the "list" is highly variable.Kierkegaard, Schelling, and the neoplatonists are a matter of taste, not for understanding the western canon. And it must be mentioned - Spinoza. Philosophers from completely all sides of philosophy appreciate him. Bertrand Russel and Nietzsche both sang his praises. There are contemporary works of Neuroscience referring to Spinoza. He is a hidden gem in the field.Schopenhauer, like Spinoza, is a wonderful philosophy that should be approached as an experience of its own but not as a necessary step of a curriculum. Sort of the same for Leibniz. As for Husserl/Heidegger... The latter is a close student of the former who more or less supplants him, people like to study Husserl but it's not an essential point. But you shouldn't worry either. Heidegger's philosophy in particular is one you want a long experience of history of philosophy for. And it's pretty annoying to read. But if I were tutoring a future king, personally... Heraclitus, Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, Descartes, Spinoza, Hume, Kant, Hegel, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, William James.
Only in accepting the past can we live in the present and face the future.

Do you think you can take over the universe and improve it?I do not believe it can be done.Everything under heaven is a sacred vessel and cannot be controlled.Trying to control leads to ruin.Trying to grasp, we lose.Allow your life to unfold naturally.Know that it too is a vessel of perfection.Just as you breathe in and breathe out, there is a time for being aheadand a time for being behind;a time for being in motionand a time for being at rest;a time for being vigorousand a time for being exhausted;a time for being safeand a time for being in danger. To the sageall of life is a movement toward perfection,so what need has hefor the excessive, the extravagant, or the extreme
I'm on the path to living a very stupid and pathetic life but I do have time to change things. But I can feel myself being beaten down, losing my job in the pandemic and subsequently falling behind all my peers hasn't helped. Anyway I can't let myself fall into the rut you know. If I get comfortable here or convince myself I don't deserve better then it'll become a self fulfilling prophecy. It's where the influence is. As in, pick your favorite philosopher, and look at their fucking citations.>Some of us are interested in understanding the world, not the canonHonestly, if you're exempting so much as half that list, you are at odds with pretty much any philosopher you're likely to name. It's hard to realize this if you go on imageboards to pretend to read philosophy, instead of reading philosophy. There's a density of interconnection that is concentrated on these names. My only guess as to how you could end up with a different impression, besides not actually reading any philosophy, is maybe just being a Christian. Maybe your beef with me is deemphasizing Christian philosophy. In which case, philosophy is not your issue.Otherwise, name any philosophers you like. I'll describe their relationship with - and probably reverence for - the people I named. As a final note, you should hold yourself to a standard of honesty and maturity.

I'd worry she was bored and begin to mess around with my feet until she got in a mood to mess around right back. Lazy sunday. I wish she was here. The kind of day where yo uhave a plan for the evening just to give the it any kind of structure at all, where you're reluctant to go when the time comes but then it's alright and you go to bed satisfied, a little tired but full of life. I think that the best way for those of us who lament the current state of the board to improve its quality is effortpost much more often. There’s no reason to believe that the jannies will suddenly become competent, so the only real path forward is manually improving the average post quality.
