Well lads, any speculation about her 4th novel? Will it be as kino as the last 3 or perhaps even surpass them?

I LIKE HER BECAUSE SHE IS IRISH, MILLENNIAL, ANTIZIONISTIC; I HAVE NEVER READ ANYTHING BY HER.

I quite like the prose in this excerpt
>Piles of dead leaves had formed all over campus
This seems to be a metaphor for the students who have been hallowed out by capitalism as they mindlessly wander through the campus
>and I spent my time attending lectures and trying to find books in the Ussher Library.
This is another comment on living under capitalism, namely the need to acquire capital, whether in the form of absorbing knowledge from lectures that require an exorbitant of money to attain, or from books that also require an exorbitant amount of money, in the form of tuition, to gain access to
>on dry days
Finally, I believe these three words are a testament to Rooney's musicality. Think of the opening vowel of "on" followed by the high pitched vowels of "dry" and "days". It reminds me of the opening of one of Mozart's sonatas.

I think you/whoever made this missed the point of Bobbi's character. She isn't supposed to be a prophet who is 100% right and serving as a mouthpiece for Rooney. Rather, the character is a trope of people that actually exist (especially in debate like Rooney was during her uni days) and meant to represent the naivety of these young women.
>>
>>19219134
it is?
does the theme or narrative call the characters out on their retardation? do they evolve or change?
or does the entire novel, with its secondary characters, story, narrative etc. bend over to validate these characters and their ideas and constantly suck their non-existent cock?
>>
>>19219134
>She isn't supposed to be a prophet who is 100% right and serving as a mouthpiece for Rooney
Yes, she fucking is. Every "young female marxist" character is a mouthpiece for Rooney's retarded ideas and biases. She's 100% devoid of self-irony or criticism. She really thinks she's got the Ultimate Truth About The World in her pocket, it's not a narrative tool.
>>
>>19219190
>does the theme or narrative call the characters out on their retardation?
No. Never.

>do they evolve or change?
No. Never.

>or does the entire novel, with its secondary characters, story, narrative etc. bend over to validate these characters and their ideas and constantly suck their non-existent cock?
Yes.
The young female marxist always spout their bullshit for the entire novel and are always validated and considered amazingly sharp by every other character. They're never faced with the realization that they're naive, or biased, or simply wrong. There's never any self-doubt in them. And the narrative never punishes them for their hubris. All the opposite.

Sally go away.
>>
>>19218603
Just finished it. The ending is a twist (for Rooney) because it ends with the 2 "young female geniuses" together with men and one is even pregnant (fuck your spoilers, this shit doesn't deserve to be preserved). But the book itself is the usual brand of Rooney's trite self-aggrandized marxist bullshit.

God, she's sto stupid, so obtuse and so arrogant all at the same time. She loves the sound of her own farts, prolly thinks they smell like roses.

>Is Bobbi actually made to be the holder of truth in the book?
Yes. Unequivocally. There's ZERO ambiguity in Rooney's trash: the young marxist girls are wonderful, sexy geniuses who are intellectually miles above everyone else. This is repeated at every chance during the entire book. The End.

not true and totally beside the point. that anon talked about Rooney's shallowness in contrast to novels of ideas or the likes of Dostoevsky's books that answer mainly one question.

In English at-least the peak was probably the victorian novel, and those are all long enough. Also before that ideas were not as important. Im reading though Grimmelshausen's Simplicius Simplicissimus and while it's a great book it's not relay a novel of ideas in the modern sense.

There a great bit in Philip Roth's the Ghost Writer when the teacher or father is accusing Zuckerman of antisemitism and demanding that he explain to him his opinions about the jews. And Zuckerman, exasperated, tells him he cant just say it in a few words when he just wrote a 700 pages about it.
these days people dont have the patience for that kind of subtlety, they just was a few words.

>Mexican thirdie lusting after huwhite wymin
>>
>>19219347
This is unintentionally the best summery of what the modern novel has become. 'useful,' not good, or considered or truth telling but helpful in the way scientific facts are often helpful.
This a badly written lament of a writer that, lacking craft, is dismayed at her own inability to even be a tool. .
>>
>>19218603
Finished it the other day. Didn't love it. What Rooney does best (autistic analyses of social situations plucked from real life) is still present, but the characters in BW are hollower than in her other books.
In general, I found the book to be self-plagiariazing. Rooney doesn't have anythig to express that she hasn't already given us in her previous work.
>>
>>19225468
>In English at-least the peak was probably the victorian novel, and those are all long enough
Most are shit. You don't need more than 250 pages for a novel. Most good philosophical texts are short too.
