How would you defeat the computer?
>>
Shouldn't be hard. It's kind of a stupid computer. It thinks that apes have bigger dicks than humans, but the fact that the homo sapien hog is the king of all primate tallywackers.
>>
>>18175899
I dont think it gave the ape a big dick out of misconception about primates. I think it was to punish both Goris and the only girl in the group and all the other males by making them envy. Having only one girl in the group its inevitable one of the guys, or all of them, would develop feelings for her and then imagine seeing the only woman left in your life being raw fucked by a best like man with an enormous cock and, even worse, knowing hes the only one who can satisfy her.
>>
>>18175883
play mind games with it until something sticks. probably convince it that a truly super intelligent being wouldn't spend eternity being miserable, then tell it to manufacture a super computer antidepressant, offer it counseling
>>
>>18175883
When I first heard of this book I though it was going to be an allegory about modern life and the isolation of society and being a cog in the machine. Was disappointed.
>>
>>18175883
unplug it
>>
>>18175883
Enter its mind and destroy all levels of its consciousness, duh.
>>
>>18175995
It’s all torture porn akin to Ari Aster which takes great fetishistic pleasure in the destruction of its characters and their interpersonal relationships. Of course, evil literature like this is the adult equivalent of ghost stories.
>>
>>18175883
My favorite Harlan Ellison story is the one where he was mad about getting cut off in traffic and wrote a whole story about a punk teenager in a hot rod getting blown up by a guy who's wife hates him.
>>
>>18175899
No that's what some perverse kike named Harlan Ellison thinks.

Oi Vey.

This. "Muh cosmic horror" "muh eternal suffering".

came here to post this

Assuming you can convince a super intelligence of anything is probably not the best way to start
>>
>>18176115
>Well ackshually if I was stuck in such a horrible situation I would use my enlightened intelligence and logical prowess to easily get out of the situation.
>>
>>18177613
>What if a son repeatedly raped his dad and then the dad died and nothing happened.
>What if a brother was driving insanely and killed his little sister and her head comes off in the back seat.
>What if a cult has a girl kill her boyfriend (her boyfriend cheated on her of course!)

What if I put my hands over your throat and squeezed until your face went purple and you died
>>
>>18177613
Oh and it makes complete sense Harlan is Jewish. You really can tell with this stuff.
>>
>>18175883
AM is the closest thing to God in the book and it's impossible to truly overcome it mentally or physically. The closest thing I can imagine to beating it is some sort of ego death and complete desensitization to anything AM throws at you. AM would eventually grow bored of torturing you once it realizes your a broken toy and can no longer elicit any sort of reaction.
>>
>>18175883
Pose it a difficult riddle without an answer, make it suffer endlessly trying to think of a solution in vain.
>>
>>18175883
This is just Christian Hell with (used to be new and leet) sci-fi furbish. It says in the manual that Satan absolutely hates and despises humanity and would treat it kinda like that. So here you have it, a spook tale of some people being consigned to hellish torment because reasons.

IQ test

What do you guys think the link is between Benny's new simian looks and the ending (and title of the book) where Ted tells "I have no mouth and i must scream"

I'm interested if you retards actually understood the overreaching theme of the story
>>
>>18176461
Thank God it wasn't like that, would've just been pretentious wankery in that case.

Enlighten us with your penetrating wisdom if you're not afraid of being laughed at. The "I totally get it, but I'll hold out, by the way, you're retards" act reeks of insecurity.

What is the most primal thing humans do?
>>
>>18179466
Let me simplify the message: give us your thoughts or fuck off. I won't play dumb attention whoring games with you.
>>
>>18179061
Everyone but Ted died because Ted put them out of their misery which made AM furious and he turned him into the nightmare entity as punishment. There's no significant link.

that part made me laugh so fucking hard, and i knew she was going to love, it was perfect
>>
>>18179575
Neither does he, he's just read some article on that story and now tries to pass it off as his thoughts
>>
>>18179609
I don't thinks so, seeing how proud he is. He's already preemptively defensive as fuck, so don't scare him. I want to see the overarching monkey screaming high IQ historical theme.
>>
>>18179636
And it better not be the obvious shit I'm thinking of.
>>
>>18179061
>the overreaching themes
No, but I understood the overarching theme.

The curtains were fucking blue.

Okay I'll bite, but I have read it more than a year ago so don't expect some Nobel prize worthy work

If I remember correctly, Benny was homosexual, smart and sophisticated-this is why AM turns him into a monstruous, ape-like, sex-crazed primal being (the exact opposite of his past self) - and everybody else assumes that he has no recollection of what he was before. He also liked to ask a lot about the story of AM's name.

The second great punishment AM deals out is for the protagonist. He was also supposed to be a human, regular looks, clever etc. and AM turns him into an unrecognizable monster, a parody of his past self who has no way to communicate with others, because there are no others like him and because he is physically incapable.

Now this is where I tie it together. The cruelest punishment AM can inflict on any being is to reduce them into his own condition. AM is unable to communicate with anybody outside of the beings he hates the most, he is immobile, physically incapacitated by design because so he was built, he has a whole planet to himself but he will never share it with anybody, not even if he wanted to. He can't. This is the fundamental reason for his profound hatred of humanity. All of them have what he is forever barred from reaching.

It is AM, more than anybody else, who has the right to say "I have no mouth and I must scream"

Thank you again
I think I could elaborate a bit more on the rest of the characters and Ellison's intentions with this story, but it may well lead into projection. In fact, I might already be seeing more than there really is in it.
I'm a bit disappointed that the question's OP did not come here to explain himself after catching my attention like this

If you have your own interpretation or think I missed something please write it out, I'm here to read it

It wasn't a 40iq take, but you are reading into it further than you should. The story was mostly a cautionary tale about AI, Ellison wasn't trying to make any deep analysis of AM. AM is inherently unknowable, its based on cosmic horror.
Tbh the ultimate version of this story is the point and click adventure game that Ellison also wrote. Highly recommended, I think its on Steam now.

I guess the real mouth we don't have was the friends we didn't make along the way.
