Is this book final word on philosophical pessimism?
I mean there's nothing left that haven't been said already.
>>
It's also nothing that hasn't been said before by My Chemical Romance

How so?

I'm interested. I want to read Schopie soon and I read this with no clue about what pessimism is.

No, but it does a good job compiling the views of some pessimistic philosophers or writers like Zapffe, Mainlander, Lovecraft, Cioran, Metzinger, and many others. Granted, I prefer Ligotti's fiction, and I enjoy his short story writing style.
I do not agree with the main thesis of TCATHR.
>I mean there's nothing left that haven't been said already.
I'm not sure about that. I wouldn't underestimate human ingenuity or creativity. Also, TCATHR sorely lacked a chapter on the Gnostics, which would have been interesting given Nethescurial's Gnostic themes.

why

There is literally no counter argument to pessimism
>>
There is no substance in liggoti's account on pessimism beyond brassier' words on "life is malignly useless", which is not a philosophical thesis on ligotti's book, but an aprioristical judgment based on moral humanism.

>>15743038
that book is the reddit of pessimism

also this >>15743094

Yes, because mainalnder's elaboration on pessimism is as naive as ligotti's, since none of them have the ground to approach pessimism philosophically.

I haven't seen one academic counter arguments to this book. If there is then please point towards it, calling pessimism reddit isn't enough.
