I joined this Aikido class because someone I really like attends. I just want to vent a bit and say that Aikido is a really bunk martial art is some ways. It reminds of me sword fencing, in that it is a style that only ever works against other people who practice the same style. Aikido throws seem like they only work if your partner is willing to take an exaggerated fall for you. If you are in a "friday night at the club and someone is picking a fight with you" situation, and you try do something you learned in Aikido class, I feel there is a good chance your ass is getting beat while you fumble with a wrist-lock. That being said, going back to Sword fencing as an example, practicing a martial art largely impractical can still have a bunch of benefits (exercise, community, purpose, etc.)Does anyone in gaygen practice martial arts?
