How long will my GP100 last or need serviced? I've shot maybe 50 .38spc through it and now exclusively shoot federal 158gr soft points .357mag. First revolver so not really sure what to expect? I do clean it after every outing and back in the case it goes.
Also, is it a solid revolver and something that will last my life and passed down to my kid?

its a revolver so it has pretty hiliarous barrel life, probly around 50k or more. you can clean it whenever you want but outside of buildup on the cylinder causing friction it wont really have reliability issues.

380 has very little energy or momentum. Shooting wild animals in self defense with a pistol that is known to repeatedly fail to reach the organs of humans in self defense situations is marry an island prostitute levels of retarded.

>>
>>60205172
You don't use hard casts or solids on big cats. While two holes is important in recorded self defense situations with big cats in the America's and Africa those types of bullets don't stop an attack. They go right through and the cat keeps coming.
You want an expanding bullet for big cat. Soft point, hollow nose, ect. And 9mm doesn't expand enough to make a difference. .357 magnum will work. A lot better than 9mm. .45, 10mm, 44 magnum..40 is a better choice than 9mm. 9mm is universally the worst choice and compromise one could make. Unless you get free ammo and pistols then it makes sense.

>>60205214
What island is she from bra?
>>
>>60205229
This. While cats are predators they are considered thin-skinned and lightly boned. Expanding bullet is called for. That said, 9mm expands just fine, any standard defensive handgun load you might carry for 2-legged threats will work.
>>
>>60205253
9mm expands, but not even to the starting diameter of some of the others mentioned. That's an issue. A major one.
Even in a .40 v 9mm comparison with the exact same ammo type in typical for caliber weight. 40 expands a lot more, goes a lot deeper and the moment and energy numbers back up real world testing.
9mm is a bad choice for almost everything considering pretty much everything around it does better.

I'd expect 12,000 357 Mag rounds before a serious tune up with regular cleaning.
GP100s, in particular, last longer than the next competitor of the same size(Python. 686) due to a better, stronger lockup. They are much more tolerant of the problems that develop from lots of shooting, like endshake than a Colt or Smith.

An honest assessment I believe to the question
>>can 9mm do this job
Ahh, it can. But you are dancing on the thin line if what would be considered a bare minimum because there are angles and situations (many) where it can and will fail you. There are other choices that lower the number of situations where it can and will fail significantly.
A big cat is coming right for you. You have a 357 magnum in one hand, and a 9mm in the other. You are equally good a shot with either hand. But you can only pick one to shoot. The 9mm is your choice autoloader. The 357 magnum is your choice revolver. Both loaded with animal appropriate rounds.
Every single person with any firearms experience knows a 357 magnum will drop the animal faster and do more damage with far less shots. But for some reason admitting this is hard for people.
Everyone is now just closing their eyes and providing their own covering fire mag dumping 9mm into the abyss.

I mean, I'm not hunting, I'm going to be blasting at it to try and keep it from dragging my girlfriend into the bush.

Outside of hunting (and even in hunting), diameter is a pretty inconsequential and most pistol hollow points are are calibrated for a human chest depth. More concerned with not getting deep enough through a bad angle and bone.
>>60205253
Thanks.
>>
>>60205299
The MR73 has a marketing claim of some ridiculous number, but that was only testing the frame which is really not a stress test. I'd suggest that real world durability of the lockwork it would rate between Ruger and Smith.
If you have the money, you can buy an MR73. It occupies this weird space because originals were these cheap, tough, functional revolvers that had real world purpose, but the new ones are marketed as these precisely tuned ferraris. There are some neat features but not for that kind of money.
Also
Subsequent generations of Manurhins basically became Rugers.

Can you carry and handle those with no issues? Can you afford the ammunition? The 416 was Harry Selbys PH gun because it worked stopping dangerous game and big cat. If you can, why wouldn't you? Most can't. So they compromise.
>>....380
Poors compromise for people that know nothing about firearms who don't realize that low energy, low momentum is a sighn the bullet is moving too slow, and is too light to do the work required.

Ruger, SW, Colt all make revolvers designed to eat only .357 magnum. The GPs are very solid, arguably the tankiest mass produced .357 on shelves right now. You cant really go wrong with any of them barring the Hillary holes on new Smiths which piss people off.
>>
>>60205821
serration-fags cant be fine with just 2, they need every part of the gun to be able to press-check
>>
>>60205837
Especially overbuilt to handle +Pissin loads, and so heavy that Colt built their advertising against it
>>
>>60205837
Really just K and J frames, old Pythons.
GP100 is very robust and you'll have a hard time wearing it out with SAAMI pressure 357 ammo(which S&W asked to lower the spec for their guns lol).
The L and N frame S&Ws, Ruger Blackhawk, GP100, Redhawks, etc, and the new Colt Pythons(likely) will all take a practically infinite diet of 357 Mag.
>>
>>60205840
So do I. If you can, be relatively fit and slim, dress somewhat nicely, and generally make yourself presentable, and gather at least a little bit of knowledge/interest about the country's history.
From what I gather, this will differentiate you from most of the single, slovenly white guys that go over there looking to bang, and the locals will treat you much more pleasantly and be less inclined to screw you over.
>>
>>60205872
Anon N-frame revolvers from the 1920s are what .357 was developed on. SAAMI never lowered .357 pressures at S&W’s request. K-frames, N-frames, J-frames, and L-frames are all common and can handle steady diets of .357.

Are Python's just a meme gun for vidyagaymen? I've never met anyone over the age of 30 who owns one, or gives a shit about them, which means everyone I've ever met who has a Python was 16 or younger when Call of Duty Black Ops came out. Grandaddy had a K frame, doesn't even know what the Python is, but he's not a gun guy. I know they were made for like 50 years, surely someone was buying them, I just haven't figured out who. I've encountered a good handful of people who own them, and one guy who's got the new version, and they're all under 30 y/o, they're all fat fuck NEETs, and they exclusively shoot a single cylinder of Remington WheelGun over the course of 20 minutes. (It's always in stock at the shop nearest to the $2 outdoor range, coincidence?)

So are Pythons just a meme leftover from Call of Duty, or did someone actually give a shit about them before 2011?

>>
>>60205923
They cannot. The L frame was literally developed to address the K frame's weaknesses and failures with 357 Mag. The L frames window was opened up to avoid cutting the 6 o clock on the forcing cone, the crane/yoke were changed, etc.
Basically read this.
https://revolverguy.com/the-smith-wesson-l-frame-story/
The N frame is gigantic, the model 27 and 28s were perfectly sized for 357 mag on S&W's legacy designs.

No, the K and J frames were not okay for the old 45,000psi/cup spec.
>>
>>60205930
it IS walking deadman's signature gun.
>>
>>60205923
It's a myth because SAAMI did change a bunch of pressure specs in the 1990s. Notable were a big drop in pressure for 357 and 44mag, and this lead to rumors "oh it was the K-frames" "no no it was the J-frames!"
The reality is they change their testing and rating methodology and moving away from CUP being the standard for measurements. CUP was a "neat trick," but by the 1990s we had way better ways to be measuring actual pressures.

>>60205970
CUP and PSI are not interchangeable, and you cannot convert between them. CUP is not an actual pressure measurement.
>>

>>
>>60205996
No bait, anon. I'm wondering if anyone over the age of 30 actually owns one. So far, no, none that I've found.
>>
>>60205977
>they are not interchangable
No shit, but they do correlate very strongly. Denton Bramwell has an excellent paper on the subject, you should READ it.
SAAMI should have rated 357 magnum at 43,000psi to match the ballistics of the cartridge as it had been loaded its entire existence prior to the 90's.
SAAMI lowered the allowable pressure by changing the standard, there is little doubt that the old ammo was significantly more potent and people have tested it on their own piezo setups.

Looks to be really hot powder damage or the barrel was defective.
My guess is using light bullets and heavy charges of Lil Gun. LG powder burns so hot you can make the gun untouchable on a hot day with just 3 to 4 cylinders full. The light bullets don't give the powder much time to burn in the chamber and so it burns the forcing cone and top strap.

the baby boomers and the GI generation were both really really ridiculously collectivistic and you can dead giveaway tell when people have parents in that bloodline because they will put massive value in really specific anachronistic shit

i used to work with a 30 year old guy who was clearly not a gun guy but because his dad was a vet he had to pretend he was super knowledgeable and give all of this stupid factually incorrect "information" that he was just repeating wholesale from his father. the only guns he owned were a colt revolver and a smith and wesson and he didn't know what either was chambered in

despite having a relatively uncommon selection of high quality guns the guy had literally no desire or knowledge to actually shoot them besides being a sycophant to his dad. i would hazard a guess and say we're talking about the same demographic.

You can wear them out significantly faster if you try. Use slow magnum powders and light bullets.
Then you can also get them to go out of time, create excessive endshake, excessive B/C gap, and viola you've got a revolver that as managed to ruin its barrel and perhaps even the frame surrounding.
Some guns are more sensitive to these conditions than others, like K frames.

The reason I'm not shitting up thread with cracked S&W forcing cones is because there are so many images out there and I don't need to repeat what is common knowledge. Anyone can go looking for anecdotes.
The L frame's existence is owed to the K frame's inadequacies, that's not an anecdote. Funnily enough the L frame was designed by a former Ruger engineer, Dick Baker.

Didn't inspect it at all, but when I saw the accuracy issues I did the look down the barrel method and saw it was absolutely shit timing. I'm glad yours worked out, though! Did it and it was BAD. If I was shooting beside someone, with that severity, it would have been a very very bad time.
Just glad it wasn't bad enough to cause a catastrophic failure and as a newbie, recognized it before it did become catastrophic.

Hey man, most everyone I know are full time renters so that's a big ass step. As someone who was in your shoes in 2017, home owners insurance and enough in savings for when shit goes south, and it will). Water heater insurance is a must, at least it was for us a few years back when ours went out. Hopefully where you live and the house you bought will continue to increase in value. We only bought this place out in the sticks because when we bought my family's house (bought in 1962) we paid 160k IN SOUTH CHARLOTTE and sold it for 482k and moved into a open plan house in the sticks built in 2001 for 150k but because it's one of those pre-built homes it will devalue so it was the land we wanted. Around 8 acres of back woods and can shoot anytime I want and within 2 miles of anything important. Food lion, Wal-Mart, gas station, etc. Was really weird being able to walk out back and just shoot but hey, outside of city limits and legal here in NC.
sorry for the rambling lol

There was no way to stop the flooding of the nation with migrants because that's what our deeply degenerate and weak upper class wanted. Until we change the minds of the elite, this will continue.
>>
>>60207371
Why not just change out the elite?
>>
>>60207344
That includes you as well. Fedposting and doing nothing is just as bad.
>>
>>60207406
Angrily complaining about things is how grassroots revolutions work, it takes years of discourse and discontent for things to happen

Not a problem with automation. Thats a neoliberal trap set up to convince you that losing demographic stability for a temporary generational windfall is worth it because just dont think about it. Its how we went from 5000 dollar Sears homes to speculative assets

>>60207423
What's bizarre is that the elites are often malthusians as well, they want a significantly smaller global population.

Anon even if we max out immigration the US population will max out around 400 million with our standard of living. Theres no way we can just go up forever.
>>
>>60207504
Our standard of living is going to fall, there is no way to keep it this high.
As the taxpaying population shrinks and the permament underclass grows drawing on government, the system will collapse under its own weight.

Even if we assumed your magical immigration would continue to true equilibrium, I doubt the mutts that replace us will be as stupid and self hating amd would likely shut the borders down to increase social welfare, just like how it happens in the countries they came from. It gives you more freedom where the gun sits and how you can adjust tilt of the gun. That is how it makes guns more concealable since you’re not beholden to your belt line

With the right choice of clothing anything is concealable. A compact like the G19 would be easy, smaller guns like the P365 would disappear
>>
>>60207858
Smith cited them, but the truth of the matter is that any peening of the yoke tube(that mates with the inside back of the cylinder) cause endshake to grow.
Smiths are really sensitive to endshake as the cylinder slams backward and forward under firing, bending things, peening parts. Heavy usage of 357 Mag will cause that.
Even the N frame model 27 and 28 share the same yoke tube with K frames so they recieved this same characteristic.

Think we'll ever get something like pic rel again? I wish .38 Super 1911's were cooler, but I'm not willing to move to Mexico where they're apparently pretty common.

.38 supers in Mexico are banned now

.38 super 1911s are very much a thing, you just haven’t looked for them, foregrips and fully automatic pistols are both regulated by the NFA
>>
>>60205362
>It occupies this weird space because originals were these cheap, tough, functional revolvers that had real world purpose, but the new ones are marketed as these precisely tuned ferraris. There are some neat features but not for that kind of money.
Yeah I have a surp MR73 and it rocks. If you're in the market for one that's what I would suggest trying to find but good luck lol . It's a great revolver but the price they're asking for the new ones is insane

Yeah, if you're that far, a new or used Korth is only a bit more.
I can safely state that those guns are unbelievable pieces of machinery. You would never believe that it could set off primers being so light.
The internals are all designed to reduce friction and energy loss.

I was thinking about a p225 since it’s da/sa and thin, but it’s about the size of a g19 in terms of length and height.

.380 is now the maximum allowed in Mexico
>Semi-automatic handguns of caliber no greater than .380 (9mm Browning, 9mm Corto, 9mm Kurz, 9mm Short, and 9×17mm). Left excepted are calibers .38 Super and .38 Commander
, and also calibers 9mm. [Such as] Mauser, Luger, etc., as well as similar models of the same caliber of the excepted, from other brands.
I don’t know what .38 Commander is but it’s presumably an erroneous reference to the Colt Commander or terminology only common in Mexico.

Yes

It’s the S&W CSX pictured, I’d throw in the 92X compact and PX4 compact as recommendations, I recommend getting true compact holsters for either of those as the full-size holsters do work the extra length limits how far down you can wear it

They have an infographic all about that. Generally if it uses a mod wing claw it is compatible since that’s the bolt pattern for the enigma device. JMCK and other holster makers specifically make holsters for enigma systems so you could just get one of those
