>Russian air defense shot down their own plane overnight near the Morozovsk Airfield in Rostov about 300km from the front lines

Do they not have IFF transponders?
>>
They do, but they started to do serious EW along the border after the incursions, which can apparently jam the IFF signal.
>>
>>58337507
Still, won't the radar show it's a full sized plane and not something smaller and drone sized?
>>
>>58337502
Could this be a hohol missile intercepted, or a drone or something?
>>
>>58337516
Maybe it was one of their rare stealth planes?
You know how stealth capabilities make a planes radar signature smaller, instead of just straight up removing it, like some sorta Klingon cloaking device?
Maybe that's why the radar operator thought he was shooting at a drone instead of a friendly plane?
>>
>>58337502
>Do they not have IFF transponders?
Why worry about something that isn't going to happen.
>>
>>58337518
>Missile
No, cruise missiles fly lower than that, UA doesn't have ballistic missiles of that range, and they would be much faster. Also ban on striking Russia proper.
>Drones
It would need to be a big one, like a shahed, but they fly lower. The best fit would be an old Soviet drone retrofitted as a kamikaze.
>>
>>58337518
I report zero "eternal flight brothers" on fighterbomber Instagram at the moment.
>>
>>58337516
No. Now radar be default doesn't even show *blimps screen" like in movies. Just digital processing and pictograms. You can turn raw output on to try ID aircraft by size of the echo, but such ID would be very unrealible.

That would mean they've possibly shot down one of their SU-57s as it was coming in to land or shortly after take-off. That would be completely retarded, but this seems to be one of those weeks where the Rooskies are going full retard, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

My money is on this, but I would be pleasantly surprised if it's really FF.
Imagine if it was really Su-57, taken down because there's literally a grand total of 3 stealth jets in BBC and AA crews didn't know what they target.

Guys? I thought Western sanctions on electronics were useless? What's going on? I was assured they'd only impact irrelevant poor people!
>>
>>58337502
Ok, you assume that it was friendly fire.
But consider that Russia has been completely infiltrated by saboteurs a couple days ago. What's stopping them from supplying manpads to prelocated agents? Or switching to civilian clothes and setting up an ambush near an airport.
It's a perfect place to get an otherwise out of range rus aircraft
>>
>>58337502
>dumb vatnigger shills in the A-10 thread I ironically thought Russian AD was a match for modern western planes
LOL. Vatnig SAMs are going to get SEADed and FEEDed so hard in November
>>
Plane made it back to russia under own power.
There is no worry.
>>
There must have been an Ukrainian stealth figter in the area.
>>
Reports are coming out that the RuAF aircraft set its transponder to broadcast as a civilian hospital to avoid being shot down by western missiles but by doing so it was immediately locked on and shot at by Russian munitions.
>>
>>58337609
could be, but the way it goes down flat and slow looks like a larger plane with wider wingspan
>>
>>58337737
Oh no! Not the Nu-VDV!
>>
>>58337502
I'd shit myself laughing if it turns out to be YET ANOTHER Mi-8 EW.
>>
Ah, that explains the screeching and shill treads
>>
>>58337502
No plane shoot down is only meteorite. In Russia we get meteorite often. Some meteorites are interesting and can resemble aircraft parts but is only coincidence.
>>
That's a Ukrainian plane.
>>
>>58337994
how did it get so far into russia?
>>

>Not needing IFF thingamabobs
They're built right in to the radar array, couldn't tell you how they function, though. Or if the pilot has the ability to turn it off. Maybe they're just unreliable and respond wrong when challenged. Add to that an inexperienced crew who is twitchy and low IQ, and you're bound to down all kinds of civilian and friendly planes.

What's more embarrassing, them shooting down another one of their planes or them getting shot down by enemy in their territory?
Or the third option, shot down by Ukie A2A over russian territory.

The Georgian invasion is widely regarded as a curbstomp, but the signs about Russian armed forces having some deeply ingrained issues were always there.
People just called you an exceptionalist idiot when you tried pointing them out, or refused to take marketing claims about the performance of Russian weapons systems at face value (especially the downright magical effects their EW equipment was supposed to have).
