A lot of people I knew jumped into the sam5 because it was new model and lots of us owned and trusted the sam7sf or sam7, but everyone already knew the slr107r was a model that historically had lots of issues. The prices for those guns isn't so much the quality of that particular rifle, it is riding on a name that is currently devaluing itself more, because they're not doing quality control or good business.
