/arg/ Tasks of the month for Jan-2023
Maintenance-
Optics are useful on your rifle but they only work when you respect them, part of this is cleaning them.
>Do you have a lens blower?
>Do you have a lens brush?
>Do you have lens paper?
>Do you have lens cleaner?
How do you intend to carry this into the field with you?
You should at this point know how your optics degrade in relation to how dirty they get. Next time your optic is filthy take the opportunity to observe assorted distances at various times throughout the day to see how much clarity you lose.

Skill Sustainment-
Target: 9x9” Plate or similar paper
Rounds: 2-4 rounds
Equipment: SPR
After confirming zero at 100yd walk back to 200yd.
Action: Upon buzzer start standing @ low ready (real low ready, not wgws low ready), Drop to a knee and deliver two solid hits on the 9x9 plate and call your time. Add 1 second for each dropped shot
Total times (time+dropped penalty):
>Cold 9 sec = Par
>Warmed up 8 sec = par
>6 and below = cooking it
Record your times and experiment with the mag level on your SPR.

Improvement-
If you are using a harris or similar force to overcome style bipod you can improve deployment speed with a quick mod at home.
Get a 12” long piece of paracord and tie an overhand knot over itself 3 times in the center, some people like to leave a tail on longer guns. Grab one end of the line and tie it to a harris bipod leg above the release button with a suitable knot, repeat on the other leg. To deploy; pinch the knot or grasp the line that dangles between the legs when folded and yank down with a jerk motion. It will deploy both legs at once and doesn’t require you to reach across the bipod or juggle the gun when prone. More documentation: https://ridgelineshooting.com/bipod-paracord-hack/ and https://youtu.be/21Azmj0rJQ0

Notice how A2 always chimes in about the NFA. And almost bends over to tell anons to sign up for the NFA.
How much more of a red flag do you need. Next youre going to tell me these trips are real people and not LEO trying to bait people.

Is there a single gas busting charging handle on the market that works as good or better than RTV mod? Some arfcom boomers are swearing by this thing because it has a bottom seal that the RTV modded handle doesn't

Making a realiable M4 with a good barrel > ambi, weight minmaxing, billet styling, or propriatary handguards.

FN is good. Time and combat proven proprietary designs like KAC or HK obviously have big advantages in material or tech over boring DI ARs.

But there is nothing to shit on about FN rifles. Unless dumping x2 the cost of their guns, you arent likely to out-do them.
>>
Is carbine or mid-length better for a 16" barrel?

I'm the guy that bought the first batch and tried coiled spring pins yet it still kept coming loose. I fucking flared over the roll pins on the underside and it still walked after 100 rounds. The replacement they sent me did the same thing. It's just a faulty design and a miracle yours is still running.

What is the cheapest acceptable stock to throw on all the formerly braced pistols that are now becoming registered SBRs just to hold over until I buy nice things for them one by one? For a nice stock later what is the actual difference between LMT and B5 SOPMOD stocks, is it just price and logo?

thats because its utter bullshit meant to incite anger

there's truly no one who would put aero and anderson on the same level, but because Aero is a nice mid-tier and anderson is notorious poor tier, its inflammatory. same with PSA and Bushmaster being on the same, or the inclusion of Sons of Liberty blah blah which approximately 0% of people have ever even heard of before the infographic

For all its flaws, it's the only subcompact that's ever felt moderately good to me and I'm having a hard time carrying anything larger now that I've been spoiled by how easily that little fucker rides and hides in the waistline. I did see something about HK coming out with some 365/hellcat/etc. competition in the near future...could see myself biting on that bait.

The GOA went to the AFT deputy derector and asked a question in a manner that could be misunderstood. And thats exactly what happened.
I hate to defend them but the GOA intentionally asked a question in a manner then took it out of context.

Gotta do what floats your boat. I haven't been able to get the XL to choke on any of the gold dots and HST I keep stocked, so as long as it can come out of my waistline and sling JHP where I want it to, it passes muster. I desperately wish I could have gotten good with any of the G19s I owned. I could shoot them well enough to confidently carry them, but compared to the work I can put in with the VP9 it's not even close.

I've found thickness to be my biggest hindrance when concealing with grip length following up behind that, within reason. The regular size VP9 ends up concealing damn near as well as the G19 with holsters and clothing being equal. Hose it down indiscriminately with the sand/tan. Go back and randomly hose down portions with the green. Use a piece of netting between the rifle and nozzle if you want the checkerboard pattern. Try your best not to go in straight lines unless you like the tigerstripe look. Don't overthink it, worst case you can either strip and retry or just start hosing down over the existing layers if you're not autistic about finish and long term durability.

Jam it into waistband AIWB with 5 shots of Barnes 125gr XPDs and a spare speed strip or two. Ballistic performance is the same if not a smidge better than my G19 firing gold dot 124s +ps. In terms of accuracy, SA offhand is pretty doable on a 12x20 @ 100yd. In terms of splits at contact distance its a no factor and will dump as fast as mechanically can. Put some twigs and grass on it then empty 6 cans onto your rifle with the nozzle right next to the gun. Oh wait nvm that’s what not to do.

Really, painting is easy, pick 1-3 colors you like that blend well (tan/green/brown/grey all work fairly well), pick a base color, any patterning you want to do, and give it a go. Tape off things or areas you don’t want painted (markings, controls, grips, etc) and just give it a nice even coat with the can at an alto private distance. Don’t go overboard on it either or the paint won’t properly adhere and it turns into a goopy shitty mess and then looks awful to boot.

>Your AR sits in battery and you set off the round
>Barrel pressurizes for a moment as bullet effectively plugs one end, bullet wants to leave so it pushes the bullet out
>Meanwhile the bolt is taking pressure via gas key and starting to unlock by twisting
>Bolt unlocks and tries to come backwards
Now heres where we start looking into springs, buffers and weights. Your buffer system doesnt hold the gun in battery but rather helps reduce the speed of the BCG coming back.
Going to speak in generalities here but;
On the unlock:
>Longer = More stroke time = input energy spread over longer amount of time
>Heavier = More energy required to move it same distance = trading speed for mass
>Lighter = less energy required to move it same distance = trading mass for speed

>Why is this a good or a bad thing?
Pros:
"Feels lighter" because you are spreading that energy over time
Cons:
"Feels slower" because you are spreading that energy over time
Some people will argue that its no good because they think they will outrun it, other people will argue that it will decrease shot to shot recovery time.
I only use them to slow the ROF in full auto overgassed guns
>Also what are the other effects of increasing buffer mass?
Requires more energy to complete a full distance worth of cycle which means undergassed guns can short stroke.
>Rebound
Generally the same rules apply. I.e too heavy of a spring can cause a short stroke, too light of a spring can cause bad recoil impulse, etc.

I've never sat down and read the actual National Firearms Act, maybe I should try to sit back and give myself a migrane one night?

Why are we discussing this then? Is their some benefit to B&T

ACOG has good glass. FOV is so wide even though it's a 4x instead of 5x it looks better. Lots of light transmission and actually daylight bright reticle. Would recommend over PA prism if you can spare the cash.

>Rebound
So i assume the heavier buffer will also be moving more slowly forward and will have more inertia. Spreading energy over a longer time seems to be a good idea in general and is similar to the surefire enhanced bolt concept I think. Thanks for all the help btw. I wonder what the reliability difference is between a5 and carbine receiver extensions.

People are saying they AFT changed their ruling. Only you or those on your trust can use a NFA item

Thats what I have tried to ask. But I think its impossible given other people were already in line with Form1s being submitted.

No adjustable diopter though so looks embarrassingly like shit for a prism. Then again its fucking old technology so cant fault it too much.
>>
>>56902141
Yes
>>
>>56904640
Every optic has ups and downs. I wanted a prism with a red dot since it's easier for me to move my head an inch than take my hand off entirely to adjust magnification or flip a magnifier to the side. Obviously eye relief and no diopter are downsides but I think the upsides justify it. For being 35 years old it still works pretty great.

that's a good suggestion, thanks. I did a base layer of od and put everything else very lightly over it because I wanted to minimize extreme contrast and get good blending, but I think it went too far and yeah, it results in blobbing together at distance
if I can't improve contrast by touching it up I'll probably use a khaki base layer
>>56904479
yeah, same, basically why I asked. Beyond contrast, I may also fuck with the mesh bag thing to see if that adds the missing ingredient. Appreciate the input

gas ports in the 10.3, 11.5, and 12.5 barrels are about .07, the 14.5 carbine is about .068, and the 14.5, 16, and 18 midlength are all around .065 or so. there are variations based on drill bit wear and such, but those are the averages. only the short barrel ones are still gaped because they're crane spec

It has never ever been the case, they havent put it anywhere but the FAQ that its changing. So based on that im going to say someone wrote the FAQ wrong.

Every "gun rights" grifter is scrambling to get their name out there with a new "did you hear about x" shitpost each day. Just ignore braces like you have been and you will be fine.

Making a video and review for every single new optic or gun that comes out is much faster than releases and the only way to keep viewer counts climbing is to make more clickbaits until you taste the forbidden fruit of sponsorship money and sell out and eventually your comfy channel of talking about guns is you saying every other day the ATF is coming to ass rape and vaccinate you and talking more about your advertisers than guns themselves

Not a rifle post but uh...

I bought a Canik Rival on a whim and not only is it a better performing pistol than any of my gen 5 Glocks--it is a significantly better value than any of them. $ 630+tax and it includes a whole kit including a holster. I'm gonna run the pistol in some USPSA carry optics matches and see how I do. I've never fired a faster striker fired polymer frame pistol in my life and I've shot all of them. Somehow it even feels better than the Walther PDP competition variant(the polymer one, haven't tried the metal one).

Honestly, if you're looking for a good performing pistol and don't care which country it comes from--seriously consider the Canik. Yes, mine has a horosun on it and that is actually my first horosun but so far its doing great. I shot this using just the circle reticle(with no dot) and the circle dot and the circle dot is just too busy. Haven't decided if I'm gonna keep using just the circle or switch back to the classic dot.

You know what makes me really sad?

The fact that I had over 200 rare and unique pepes on my old hard drive, and when it died I lost all of them. That picture is beautiful when you really think about it. All those images, all that beauty, that art...lost...like tears in the rain.
>>
>>56906066
Then it isn't optics ready.
G19 MOS is $649.99 and I've literally never seen them cheaper(nor can I currently find it cheaper online) unless it was used. Either way, the G19 Gen5 doesn't even compare to this EVEN WITH the $100 performance trigger(which you'll note, my G19 does have the Glock brand performance trigger). The Canik Rival isn't even meant to be compared to a G19, it's more akin to a G34 but completely outclasses an out of the box G34 in everyway and its over $100 less expensive. The Rival is specifically designed for competition however Canik does have guns that are much more similar to the G19 and they typically cost $300 and from what I've heard they too have better ergos and a much better trigger. I haven't actually shot those ones though.

Why are muskets so nice and how do I cope? Or do I just run a 20” as my main gun? I have shot ars of all variants and I constantly find myself going back to a 20” even when I’m innawoods. What is the optimal musket build?
