Happy Thanksgiving frens
>>56159365Dear Lord, Please receive my thanks and gratitude for the Blessings you have bestowed upon me and my family. By your Grace, my mom survives her cancer another year, my gfs nephew survives his motorcycle wreck with 47 broken bones, and her brother survives all his trials you give him to prove his strength and I am grateful.
It is my fourth thanksgiving alone bros. At least I have my FAL.

Is there an ideal scope/mount meta for G3 style rifles where you can also use your iron sights? Mine is an 18” PTR 91 with a welded top rail?
>>56164152Ta31 or a ta11
>>56164152Acog, red/holographic and magnifier. Personally the acog is best for the package and weight
It has its inherent flaws, sure, but I can’t believe how easy it is to shoot at 150 yards with the irons on my PTR. I think I got a pretty good one, it eats any cheap shit I run through it and the sight posts are nice a straight. The only issue I’ve had is the slim handguard getting too hot to hold after 15 minutes of steady fire. I’d been avoiding the wide handguard as it looks a bit angular for comfort, but I guess I’d rather be able to hold it period even if it’s a bit cumbersome up front.
>>56164616Midwest industries makes a okay handguard, I can personally speak for the spuhr and say I got haven’t an issue. It also for the barrel to cool much quicker than the slimline handguards
>>56162855Another range trip tomorrow. Taking 140rounds of .308 and 200rounds of 7.62x39. Then when I come back, I'll take some meme images of my battle rifle with my toys and knife. Never seen an image here of battle rifles next to toys, well see how that goes. Tomorrow for sure.

why won't you post scar :(>>56179091>>56180215I have GLX 1-8 and I don't like it very much at all.-biggest reason is I just don't like the reticle. I'm not a fan of chevron reticles for precision shooting to begin with. I don't like that the mil/moa hashes don't have any numbers on them whatsoever, making it annoying and lengthy for me to find the correct holdover. there is a wider hash every 5 mils but it's still slow to count between these. this combined the fact that the scope can't be elevation (or windage) dialed makes it annoying for me to shoot long range with it.-the optical quality is not very good and the eye placement to get the clearest picture is very narrow. being slightly off results in a dim / shaded picture.-the illumination is really bad, not just that it doesn't get extremely bright, which is excusable in my opinion, but the illumination isn't crisp, it looks grainy and uneven brightness.for what it's worth I have shot great groups with the scope, I just think there's more attractive options. my friend's low end vortex scopes impressed me. the glass was clearer than the primary arms and the reticles were more conventional which I prefer. I would go for the Viper PST Gen II if you can, and the Strike Eagle if you can't. I've shot both of these as well and much prefer them to the Primary Arms GLX.

>>56184410My first thought. It is quite striking. Unless natural figure, a little too much.
>>56184417>How do I stop being poor and become rich so I can shoot more?Discipline and priorities combined with good choices and discretion.
>>56159365>/brg/want to get a battle rifle. how important really is barrel length? seems like 18" should be the shortest barrel i'd want for this calibre and purpose.is it worth it to go with 20" ?considering I don't line inna mountains or the woods. so potential is for alot of open ground, large field of view, long distance targets/engagements
>>56182560Morning, pancakes and coffee time
>>56184709I'm a full length man, myself. But shorties have their place.
>>56180828Its the cluster rail that Vltor made for the SOCOM 2 model. From what ive seen they are very hard to find. I managed to snag the rail by itself a few years ago for like a hundred bucks.
>>5618470918 is fine
>>56184709Unless making a pocket sniper with a 13in bull barrel and collapsing/folding stock, 18in is the shortest you should go to get maximum practical potential out of a gun you plan on carrying around. You can squeeze another couple inches in with a bullpup if you go that route, but that path remains less traveled and the locals say it's for good reason. It all depends on application
>>56184709>18" should be the shortest barrel i'd want for this calibre and purpose.16" is fine, and more common with most barrel makers. 18" is better, but that's already too long for a utility purpose, .308rifle. If you want long range precision, go 22"+. What's your intended and may god forgive me for this, "Philosophy Of Use"? Hunting? 16". Potential combat? 16". Bench rest? 22"+. Competition? 22"+. There aren't many situations where you need a longer heavier barrel and anything under 600yards, shoots exactly the same on a 16" barrel. Barrel length starts to matter more and more the further that bullet travels.
>>56179091If I was going for budget glass, I'd be taking a hard look at the gen 2 vipers from vortex. Leupold has some sub-$1k lines with very decent glass as well. 10x will be plenty serviceable at even longer ranges, but I'd probably opt for 4-16, 3-18 or something similar if it was me.
.308 sits em right down
>>56180244Hate my Strike Eagle something awful. Alright for the bench, but in the field it's been a hinderance.
>>56184417Shoot at competitions instead. You will ironically go through less ammunition while gitting gud. They cost like $20, there's usually a couple each month, and usually need 200 rounds at most which you almost never use all of (of those 200, much will be pistol ammunition if you shoot multi-gun).>>56181167>>56183613>>56180489Thanks, frens. Seemed like the way to go was either a strike eagle or slx - looks like they're made in the same factory and the differences are mostly with the reticle. After checking the used market, it seemed like strike eagle 1-8 FFP's were more common than slx's - I figure I can pick up the slx new, then if I hate the reticle I can basically trade it for a strike eagle later.>>56180508I work in automotive, which means I'm a brainlet and only know how to move around with wheels.
>>56185963Talk to me, what is your experience? Not him, I have a trijicon but I'm always curious.
>>56186001I dont think it's very clear, light transmission isnt great, and the mag adjustment takes some torque. Fogged up on me and helped me not get a deer last week. Lighted reticle has gone wonky I think the newer gen is better, and it's tough and has a good reticle for a $300 scope I got with a mount, but the Vudu 1-10 is what I think really want on my AR-10
>>56186058>VuduI have a Credo 1-8 that I just took off my 10 that I'm considering throwing back on it. Unfortunately my magpul stock works better with the mount I have than my B5.

>>56194572> My logical mind just doesn't see the point. How? Smaller, lighter, handier, but in the same heavy-hitting cartridge. Should we all lug around 15lb PTRs just to sling .308? You know they make those in 5.56 AND .308 too, right?> There are a lot of great options, a meme AR10 doesn't have a spot to call home.Sure it does, in the "light but powerful" spot. Just because there are visible stink lines coming off any AR platform the second it leaves /arg/ doesn't mean we're allergic to them or something, the AR platform is one of the best in the world and /brg/ knows it.

>>56195839Still not seeing it. Your ptr is fat cause you put all that bullshit on it. All a fal or prt needs is an optic. Your throwing money at a nothing burger problem. What will you do with an ultra light AR10? Only soldiers carry their rifles for dozen of hours. Are you going to volunteer for Ukraine? Or are you a bitching whining and complaining about a "theoretical" problem? I think you're the latter, with a tinge of autism.
>>56197381>Your ptr is fat cause you put all that bullshit onYou are mean.
>>56197426Well, in my mind's eye I can already picture what he would do, if he got that 8lb Ruger Sfar, just from the way he reasons his logic. I theorize it would go something like this;>Puts a magpul PRS stock on Sfar for perfect comfort and eye relief>Put on an LPVO or scope to get the best precision at max range>Adds a bipod for stabilityAnd JUST like that, he would turn that 8lbs Ruger Sfar into a 13lbs anchor.
>>56197485But that's all so reasonable. I also suggest a bull barrel for accuracy and a tactical light for night ops. Just makes sense at that point. And a nice big muzzle device, I like the Viper brake. Good idea to add lead shot to the rear stock for balance. Just for ergonomics...
>>56197485>Shaved off 3 or 4 lbs with a lighter base build It's curious why you are so desperate to kill interest in this thing - or saving weight. Very curious.
>Lighter is better. >Faster > heavy boolit.I keep sayin'... >>56193385
>>56197381> What will you do with an ultra light AR10? Only soldiers carry their rifles for dozen of hours.Incredible autism. It's a lighter rifle that can do the sam thing as a heavier one, in a lighter package>>56197485>able to add modern attatchments>somehow this ruins a rifleYou reek of jealousy. I don't even have an AR-10 and I concede that it does everything a heavier cold war shitrod does but better, a lighter version is just the cherry on top and lends itself to even more versatility
Been a while since my FAL saw the range. Old fiber optic red dot didn't work well at the indoor range so I took it off
>>56197726>It's a lighter rifle that can do the sam thingIf you're the same person, you haven't said anything about what that "thing" is. Can you point it out for me? Is the "thing" in the room right now? How many fingers is "The Thing" holding up? If you want a specialized light weight AR10 for shtf then get it. If you want a light weight AR10 because you fucked your PTR's shit up; my suggestion is to unfuck your PTR. Gear your stuff with how you use it. >You reek of jealousy. You're projecting. If you want me to be jealous, post the house you live in. I'm not a teenager, seeing a gun won't mesmerize me.>lighter version is just the cherry on top and lends itself to even more versatilityAt doing that "Thing" with the "Thing" you have in mind, that you haven't told anyone about? Ah yes, the "Thing". Yeah, I concede that the Ruger Sfar is very good at the "Thing".
>>56197543>I also suggest a bull barrel for accuracy and a tactical light for night ops.>And a nice big muzzle deviceThis is very subtle humor, and I appreciate this post.
I went with PA-10 receiver, replaced the buffer spring'n'weight, use their MPT trigger and have that down to ~4mm slop with 3.2-3.5# pull. Toolcraft double ejector nitride bcg with the 6.5 spec pin/hole. (cheap) ambi handle and safety because I'm a lefty.Don't really know what I want for the barrel yet.Kind of want the gun to be an all rounder, compromizing size and portability, and still capable of 800+yd at moa.I also don't like SS anything, specially not the barrel. Gun is set for/intended to be rifle length gas.Don't care bout suppressors as I'll never fire a .30 cal indoors. I have .22lr for indoors.I was thinking a 20" faxon nitride in gunner profile. Will probably choose an adj. block as I want to play with different weights and powers of handloads without feeling the need to mess with spring and buffer weight combos.Aero has a block that claims to not get as dirty/not need cleaning as often as other types of adj. Gonna be 3 or 4 months before I finish it up (poorfag). Will probably buy the tube, block, and handguard before making final decision on the barrel.Shit I also need a vise, viseblock, and armorer tools.
>>56200172>Don't really know what I want for the barrel yet.Criterion and Faxon seem to be the best, but I only say that because those seem to be in a lot of top barrel lists. >>56200172>I was thinking a 20" faxon nitride in gunner profileYou're going to need a handguard that fits right, fits your PA receiver and allows access to an adj. gas block. >Aero has a blockStop right there. I wouldn't trust anything that isn't a JP gas block at the minimum. They've been making and improving gas blocks for 9years. Their gas blocks are sold out consistently for a reason. If not a JP, then find something that's just as high end and proven. A bad gas block fucks your entire system up. You can cut corners on the trigger, receiver, grip, but not the gas block. >Aero has a block that claimsWow, someone selling you something, claims they are the best and greatest. What a surprise!>buy the tube, block, and handguardBuy the handguard last, get a feel for how that stuff you have on it lines up. It will also allow you to measure where your adj. gas block needs space.
>>56200587>JPFor $10 more it does indeed look a lot more solid. Thanks!
Why did HK start using plastic lowers instead of steel?

I got tired of lugging around my G1 so rhodified it. The only permanent change was threading the barrel for a combo device, which you can't see under the G1 flash hider. It's a lot handier this way.
>>56206807Is a Trilux worth it? I've been thinking about one for while. That HBAR must be a stone cold bitch to hump around with the optic and a full mag.
>>56206807Gotta admire the wood here.
Should I worry about the receiver on My Federal Ordnance M14A? I've heard lots of conflicting things about their quality and longevity. The rest of the gun is USGI with a lot of TRW parts so it would probably be worth it to rebuild it on a new receiver some day.
>>56209445>TFW no XM177E2One of these days...
>>56209000Checked. I just like the 14 lb 60’s vibes it gives, similar to Colt carry handles. Very sweet HBAR anon, are your bipod skis belgium? Mine dig into my shoulders like a bitch.>>56209273It’s the wood that makes it good
>>56209556It's worth it bro. I bought mine fully built off the FAL files for $1600, came on an NDS receiver. I swapped out some small parts and the handguards to make it more correct, but it didn't take much. It's a super fun, handy little rifle. >>56209744The HBAR was built for a buddy, and the kit came with a Belgian flashhider and bipod assembly. It's fun to shoot but damn is it heavy with that bipod. The Israeli one looks a little more manageable, hopefully he will find one of those soon.
>>56209000Really depends on if you get a good deal on a mil issue or commercial. Trilux Dust cover mounts run about 200 and the trilux itself goes anywhere from 5-600 depending on condition. You could get a sweet deal on a trilux to picticanny/weaver mount and get a DSA dust cover as an alternative. >>pic is markings of Brit one that never had the sticker and marked dust cover.

>>56209861I've got a line on one with the Colt upper and NDS XM177 lower. $1,500 and barely fired. Just not sure if I'd be happy with the extra barrel length or if I should just be patient for H&R/Nodak/PSA to get their retro stuff finally on the market.
>>56209861That's a nice classic collection. I've been trying to get wood furniture for my shockwave but no one makes anything. Only found one source and they were so low key, I couldn't trust them with my card info. Smells like boomer and I like it.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the PSA/H&R/NDS stuff, especially if you want a specialty product like an XM177E2. I'm sure that stuff will be hard to find for a long time, and even when it's available it won't be as authentic as a real Colt. >>56211423You should buy a cheap wood stock set from Numrich and make your own. I've since replaced the Ithaca with a Tac-14 Hardwood (shorter but heavier, both of which are pluses for me), and if I could find an affordable set of vintage 870 wood I'd probably make my own. >>56221433>Mil spec justwerkz and how a "tuned out" one functions is just fine.Yeah, but eventually you might want something better. Geissle triggers are top notch and when they're worn, they feel almost a pound lighter. If you want to be as precise as you can be, you'll need a lite trigger pull. >when you match PSA's frame to the proper gas/buffer system it's fine. That's not what I meant or implied. I was implying that an after market handguard might not match your receiver in the style, lines, cuts and attachment. Really research the handguard before you buy it or you might end with a rail gap where the receiver and handguard meet. Out of precaution and saving headaches, I just suggest that you stick with the same company's parts. Like, don't mix a PSA lower, with a BCM receiver with a geissle handguard, for example.
