Going to the gun show tomorrow and looking for an SKS. Any buying tips?
>>54681881Yeah, don't buy at a gunshow
>>54681881>paying $300+ for a rifle thats worth less than $100shiggydiggy
>>54681887Why not? The LGS never have wooden SKS just gamer boy polymer with acogs. Do you just roll the dice buying one from an online site where they ship you one slathered in jelly?
>>54681881Matching serial numbers, try to be able to identify where its from, bayonets included. and check all the regular things, springs move, parts move etc.
>>54681915>Do you just roll the dice buying one from an online site where they ship you one slathered in jelly? How do you think the rest of us did it. That's also what you'll be doing at a gun show but you'll pay double
>>54681911Find one for sale less than $100 nigger
I had a guy offer me $600 for mine a few weeks back but I’ll never sell. Fun gun>best of luck in your search OP
You DON'T want to know what milsurp is priced at gun shows in 2022. I'm talking $700 mosins dude. we're cooked
>>54681911>not understanding the concept of supply and demand
>>54681965They are already $700 online. Ive never been to the gun show, how are any of you sure the gunshow might not have a better deal
>>54682013Gunshows have notoriously bad prices but so do gun stores
>>54681887I bought my Russian SKS at a gunshow from a private seller booth for $400 in 2013. SKS are pure love and worth it at any price
>>54681965>>54682013What the fuck Mosins were $80 at gunshows like 5 years ago. It's like investing in Dogecoin
>>54681881Going to Raleigh tomorrow?
>>54681986>not understanding the concept that the SKS is a piece of shit
>>54681965There is someone that has a bubbad nornico sks for 2400 at my local show. You would not believe what kind of shit people are trying to pull these days
>>54681881no tips about buying but pick up some sks stripper clips while youre there.
>>54682195Why do you say that anon?
What is driving the spike in prices of milsurp shit?
>>54682231Boomers
>>54681911I'd pay $400 for it, it's a good little gun. No more, though.
>>54682231Less supply and more boomer dementia
>>54682195It isn't, noguns
>>54681881Get in a time machine and go back 15 years. It'd be a better value than finding a decent Russian or Yugo
>>54682239Not likely, boomers don’t overpay for shit. They just try to up sell you on what they got. When a retard pays too much for something that effects the price of that something moving forward. It’s more accurate to say that retards are what is driving up the prices
>>54682231Retards still thinking that the SKS is worth buy.
>>54682273Like it or not its probably going to be the one of the only legal rifles to own within the next 2-3 decades
>>54682371yeah in Canada
I am tempted to buy a Chinese SKS from Buds gunshop but I don't know how they are in condition and afraid to roll the dice. Have any of you guys any from Buds?
Going to Oaks OP?
>>54682371I listed some sks parts on eBay and they took my listings down and restricted my account for selling 'assault weapon parts'
>>54682231They stopped making it, and then they sold their inventory. That ship sailed 20 years ago.
>>54681911>ak or ar starts off at $500if its just gonna be a ranch rifle or used for plinking, then its better to go cheaper for something thats still quality
>>54682371This is a strange form of cope.
>>54682451Dude don't, that's where I was seeing 7-800 dollar mosins that were beat to shit, SKSs for $600 minimum, good luck finding an enfield/mauser for less than a grand. I wish all the fudds in PA would die already
You going to Oaks? Look for a fag in full Alpenflage with a Yugo Mauser and say Hi
>>54682178its not 2013 anymore retard
>>54681915>Do you just roll the dice buying one from an online site where they ship you one slathered in jelly? The ones slathered in jelly tend to be arsenal refurbishments or decent condition ones (otherwise they wouldn't have bothered). Those are the absolute best ones to get. An SKS is also fairly easy to strip down and clean.
>>54681887/thread
>>54681881Spend that money on a half dozen 80% AR lowers instead.
>buy norinco sks from lgs for 650>take it shooting>find out the magazines flies out after every shot and it can't chamber a round properly unless i breech load it>bolt eventually locks up and have to stop shooting it for the dayaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>54682706>ak starts off at $500AAHHHHHHH HAHAHAHAHAHA fuck off noguns
>>54681881idk dude don't buy from a gun show. you will not find a deal. stalk GunBroker, Armslist, and every pawn shop within 50 miles. palmetto occasionally has chink models for like $400 if you'll put in the work to clean it. I traded a franken AR for a yugo and have no ragerts.
>>54681881Are you seriously going to exploit the gun show loophole? You realize this is going to make us all look like crazy people in front of my subreddit community?
>>54682839I didn't say it was, faggot. Enjoy the higher prices anywhere bitch
GOT ONE RIGHT HERE FOR YOU SONNY .... 600$ AND ILL THROW IN THE BAYO NET .
>>54681911>paying $300+ for a rifle thats worth less than $100Where does this meme that they're such low quality come from? Is it just because they used to be cheap? A Russian or Chinese SKS will have a chrome lined barrel which a lot of inexpensive/cucked ARs (PSA/HK) made today won't even have. They've also got a milled receiver and a mechanism pretty much as reliable as a self-loading rifle can be made. They're as accurate as AKs if not slightly moreso (mine gets about 1.5 MOA with GT vs. about 2 MOA in my VEPR). Plus they actually have have some history to them. If anything they just used to be severely undervalued due to the large supply.
>>54682266Boomers got it
>>54682451SKS are way overpriced there, cheapest one was a beat to hell Chinese for 4 something.Saw a couple $300 bubba krags there yesterday. One stand had the new sig 210 carry already for 1400.Also the parts kits guys are there along with the autistic guy who sells receiver blanks and castings for lmgs and 1919s and stuff.Sarco is present. There's a stand selling "heater meals" civilian mres for $45 a case, I tried one last night and it's alright I'd say worth it.Pic unrelated
>>54682750Saw a few Mausers for less than 500, may have been Spanish. A couple swedish Mausers in the 8-900 range and a k98 for 800 but I forget who made it.
>>54682194Dixie gun show?Anything good? Last time I went was just a bunch of magpull and silver shit.
>>54682442You buying in person?I got my Mosin from them years ago. Love it. Should have bought the crate.
>>54686955I would but I live in Chicago with my parents. I am pretty late for the sks party but learned Buds is selling them, especially through their website. I only been reading the reviews, seeing youtube videos and browse in a subreddit to see the kind of sks people be getting there. I am under the impression that they are in "good" condition but I don't know.
>>54687111Huh, I just looked and it seemed like Buds was sold out.Good luck to you.I got mine as a c&r from jgsales if buds is sold out. I think they're cool guns but, you might as well just get an AK around these prices.
>>54682195>seething this hardLol lmao
>>54681881I wouldn’t buy from gunshows either. The days of finding deals and being able to haggle with sellers are long gone. Gunshows have become completely destroyed by boomers overvaluing firearms. There’s always some retard willing to pay 500-800 for a yugo/chink SKS. You’re better off trying to contact private sellers or buying online.
>>54681881My only advice is to not pay more than $500 max for a brand new straight from the factory one unless it has some actual history behind it beyond sitting in a warehouse for half a century or being used for drills. Unless for whatever reason you have a serious hardon for the idea of an SKS an AR is unironically a far more practical and economic rifle to buy nowadays. >>54682231The import pool dried up 10+ years ago and the number that caused dirt cheap prices naturally dwindled. Its why you’d pay more for a Yugo car nowadays than you would for when they first came out, they stopped being imported and its achieved a collector/cult following status. >>54685418>$45 a caseThats not bad at all for MREs, how much was in one? 12?
>>54684282Your VEPR is god awful looking. I’m sorry for you.
>>54687320This is the most honest assessment of the market I’ve seen thus far.
>>54681915>Do you just roll the dice buying one from an online site where they ship you one slathered in jelly?yes
>>54681881Tell all these motherfuckers to get fucked. The SKS is a nice rifle. Buy a Yugo if you can. The Chinese ones aren't anywhere near as good. I got mine for $100, but that was like 25 years ago. I've seen decent Yugos go for as much as $700, but that's the top of the market that have never been fired still in Cosmoline. It also depends on where you live too and what state. You could be forgiven for paying anything less than $400. Stick with the standard box magazines. The 30 round clips jam and don't work quite right. And if you need more than 10 rounds, the SKS isn't the rifle for you. Enjoy. It's my favorite rifle.
>>54682013Yeah ... these assholes are thinking like 20 years ago. There was a ton of Balkans war surplus that hit the market and you could buy them for dirt cheap. My brother bought 4 for $100 a piece. That isn't the market right now. I wouldn't go online. Gun show is a fine way to go. You may pay more, but you can also look at the rifle and ask questions about it and learn from the dudes there.
>>54684282>Where does this meme that they're such low quality come from? The Chinese SKS. Even those are ok. People that say this have never fired a Yugo SKS. Plus the fact that there were so dirt cheap like 20 years ago made people think they were low quality.
simonovs genius
>>54682371Champ I can get a decent ar-15 for $550 why should I buy one of these. They made sense a decade ago when you could get one for $150-200.If I can buy a better gun for the price NOW, why should I give a fuck about (what you say) the law is going to be in 20 years.I'd rather have 20 $500 AR-15s than 20 $400 SKS, especially if some gutfucked obsolete dementia addled career politician tries to ban guns without and amendment repeal passing. And if you arent in the USA and something like the SKS is one of the only viable affordable semi auto rifles you're allowed to own, you should be just as mad at the faggots who let the price of an ancient, worn out, obsolete weapon skyrocket.
>>54687361Thats literally what it is though. Maybe the boomers made it worse because everything is some grand pyramid scheme investment to those geriatric faggots, but there could only be so many nuggets or Mausers or whatever purchased before the prices explode from less being available and no more coming in. Hell look at the AR, pre 1994 only a small number of companies actually made them and a ton got shipped overseas to places like Ireland to be in foreign conflicts. Now after more people got their hands on them and got the design/manufacture down every fucking company under the sun has their own AR available, which is why the idea of a $500-600 AR went from completely unthinkable to standard price. And on the flip side thats why cheap shit that was worth $50 at most 40 years ago can now go for thousands.
>>54687838Why not have both? Are you poor?
>>5468732012 in a case 4 of each flavor beef and mushroom gravy and mashed taters, vagitarian 3 cheese lasagna, and pepper steak were the flavors mine came with. They also have a pack of cookies, apple sauce, trail mix and a juice box
>>54682178I got a chink one for 250 in 2018. While the blade is cool, it ain't that cool.
>>54687546Aftermarket "detachable" mags are the bane of the SKS. Most problems stem from those. Only other issues I've seen is sometimes the firing pin gets jammed in the bolt because it's a cheesy design.
>>54688232tapco ones work. try cutting part of the bolt... eh contact ben murray... he can do the forbidden mod.
>>54682371you mean like in australi? oh wait.. v
>>54681911>paying $300+Try $600+. SKS market is fucked. Feel dumb missing out on the PSA $300 SKS; I wanted a surplus one I could throw a beater stock on.
>>54682442What did they have them priced at? Currently OOS but was in stock until recently.
>>54682750Sadly seeing similar prices. Last Mosin carbine I saw was $250 and I regret not getting it. But Mosins $350 or even $450 and up wasn't uncommon. SKS? Worse, $550+ if not minimum $650. I heard someone got $1k+ for their SKS in the height of panic buying.Enfield is hard to find. I think the most recent SKS rifles I saw were $600-800, though some were even cosmoline coated yet so I don't know if I can really complain; at this point, it's impressive it hasn't been cleaned yet.>>54682759God damn it, don't make me want to go to another shitty gun show.
>>54688168Well shit thats a goddamn steal for an MRE nowadays. I know that contractors make civilian versions that are basically the same thing without the DoD packaging, or market them as disaster relief rations or whatever, but even then $45 for a 12 pack of all that is pretty damn good.
>>54681915>The LGSstopbuyingfromlocalgunstoresuse a fucking price aggregator website, what are you a 60yr old man?
>>54688130yes.
>>54688600some of us dont like waiting on stuff to come in the mail
>>54688600Picture this anon>all LGS have closed because of a lack of customers>democrats ban the sale of ammo online throughout the countryYou now have multiple neat looking pieces of wood and steel that are entirely useless
>>54688600I get great deals at my lgs. You just have to not go to the bad ones.
>>54681881Unless you have a history boner for the SKS, I could care less for the ugly fucking internal mag fed primitive war time desperation derived thing. I'd sooner invest in something more like I might use tomorrow in my car like an AK-Pistol.
>>54688587This is them ttpr2k
>>54687188I mean they occasionally sell it off Buds like PSA does. Have to check everyday if it is there.
My sks has always done me well, but make sure to check fore busted parts. I had to replace a piston extension rod because I didn't check until I got home. But should you do, you'll have one tank of a rifle my fren
>>54688232>Only other issues I've seen is sometimes the firing pin gets jammed in the boltThe only time I've seen this is when a gun had cosmoline in it which wasn't fully cleaned out.
>>54689528thats pretty much entirely the issue, if you can shake your bolt and hear the firing pin move freely, you arent risking a slam fire any more than you do with an ar15.
>>54681881Go for a military Chinese one, they are the same quality as the russian ones. The export models arnt as high of quality but still alright. bring alittle pocket flashlight so you can check out the barrel, look for cracks in the stock and rust on the internals. lots of cosmoline is a good sign it has been in storage rather than being used. It's a super fun rifle to own and with the stripper clips + sling + chest rig + cleaning kit, you really do end up with a great value loadout
>>54687347The AR stock works really well with a POSP. Pretty much perfect eye relief every time.
>>54681881Look at the condition of the bolt and also the gas piston, including the piston under spring pressure. Also look at the bore and condition of stock.
>>54681911If it were made today it would be worth more than $1000.
>>54689944Yeah stripper clips are a must, that and they're just fun lol
>>54682971There is a bolt hold open for empty mags
>>54681911>worth less than $100News flash, it's worth what people pay, just not to you. Welcome to free market Ivan Chang.
>>54690057Lighter & more compact too.Take 300 rounds and put them on stripper clips and 300 rounds in magazines and see what takes up less space and weight. I have more than 30 stripper clips & a chest rig.
>>54687838Because a $550 AR will be a melonited piece of shit only good for spraying bullets in an imaginary booger lube fantasy whereas I can hunt with my SKS giving it an actual reason to exist.
>>54690557The sks will outlive us all. Few of its parts are at risk of breaking, 7.62x39mm can take down deer, the bayonet can intimidate and be used in cqc- its perfection
>>54688428$400 if you pay through echeck or mailed-in. 410$ as retail with credit/debit.
on budk there is a brass range finder if you want to get more out of the range adjuster on the sks.I can generally hit a manhole cover at 300 meters with the iron sights, after that im usually just hitting the general area, but thats still a potentially useful feature
>>54685418Anon, what gun is that? Stocked? Also, $300 bubba (or depression era chopped w/o handguard commercial sale) Krags sound about right. The last 5 years, I've seen them about $250, so add $50 for gunshow "convenience". SKS is cheaper than I've seen sadly. A $350-400 SKS would blow the pants off the prices I've been seeing, which is more $550-700 with awful plastic stock or awful """camo""" paint or something else wrong with it.
>>54691078TY.
>>54690557Melonite barrel treatment is perfectly fine, and arguably better for accuracy than chrome lining. Anyone who shits on melonite is a fucking idiot who has no idea what they're talking about.
>>54691799Just to warn you. The SKS will come in cosmoline and it could come with a crack, dents or scratches. Scratches tend to be trench art though
>>54691773It's a Rossi circuit judge. It's really dumb don't buy one.
>>54692315Oh well, I'm the anon wanting a beater. I have a stock I found super cheap ($15 or under). If it has trench art (hopefully), it'd be a bonus. One stock for it looking original, one for innawoods. It's even a wood stock, though painted. $400 is kind of a lot for an SKS considering historical prices but it won't get better and I'm making more money than I was years ago.
>>54691830Whether they're more accurate or not depends entirely on who made them and the processes they used. If you take a cheap shitty barrel and nitride it you're just going to have a shitty barrel with a hard surface. But all things being equal, a nitrided barrel will always have a shorter usable life than chrome. This effect is even more pronounced during rapid firing.
>>54692431Yeah some asshole posts it everywhere he can and spams threads for it. Revolver rifles are shit and a great way to blow your fingers off if you get a shit one
>>54690061I know. the magazine just can't fully sit and falls out when I fire it, even when the maglock snaps in place. this happens with both the original mag and the promag it came withi have just accepted it's a bit fuckywucky and will take it to a gunsmith
>>54681931this
>Don't spend more than $500>make sure it has a Bayonet>cosmoline is inevitable>inspect the rifle before buying it>get a russian surplus slingI fucking love my chink SKS but damn it's such a bitch to clean. I can also assure you too that it will make you want to buy an AK later on
>>54681881>Any buying tips?Take a bore light so you can check the rifling.
