Buying a pistol is so hard man. Hopefully I find something I like on black friday
>>
>>51180506
None of the ranges in you area have them for rent? Most of the indoor ranges usually have a collection of rentals. Almost all of the ive been to have at least one Glock. You usually have to buy their ammo at their price though. Also have to buy their targets. But its worth it to make sure you like a particular gun.

Noguns here asking for opinions and advice.
I'm looking for a 9mm pistol with some limitations due to where I live. I've shot a few thousand rounds through various guns over the last year or two, including Glock 17s with and without optics, CZ 75B and Tactical Sport Orange, Walther P99, and couple other random guns. Not surprisingly, TSO is the favorite out of those ones. The intended use is practical shooting and a range toy.

So:
>9mm
>price under $3k
>has to be optics ready out of the box; can't mill slide here
>can't carry so I don't give a shit about gun being compact
>no used guns, as market is extremely limited

A good trigger is key; I enjoy the light and crisp trigger of the CZ TSO.
Something like a Shadow 2 seems like an obvious choice, but I'm looking for alternatives. LTT Beretta 92 Elite with RDO slide would also be what I'm looking for, but those are not available here and I can't import one, so no luck there. Also, I'm not ideologically opposed to striker fired guns, so if something like Walther Q5 Match SF, just to name one, is a good option, I'll go for it.

pls respond
>>
>>51180985
Get an FK BRNO PSD and rock 4 calibers in one spacegun G, pretty much the slickest new pistol on the market
>>
>>51180985
isnt CZ reddit? and the shadow 2 is super reddit?
>>
>>51180985
If you like the CZ platform then get the shadow 2 OR and dump the money on ammo, R dot, and a light.
>>
>>51180985
I personally have a beretta 92x that I absolutely love. My dad has a Shadow 2, a Q4, and a Q5 and they're all great, but look man unless you're collecting or competing, you should save your money and focus on training with a reliable weapon instead.

I'm not quite sure about your specific needs here because they seem somewhat impractical. If you can't carry then fine, but I've never been a fan of optics on handguns. A light/laser combo should be perfectly adequate for your considerations. I fucking love berettas so that's my preference, but if you can't get one, I'd probably just splurge on the Shadow 2 because it checks most of your boxes. I can't justify spending that much for something that isn't functionally better than a $600 handgun though, and if you're looking for home defense options I would gravitate more towards a shotgun/rifle anyway.
>>
I wish I could try out red dots without having to buy one and a compatible pistol. I don't know if its right for me or not. guess ill stick with irons

for the operational distance of a handgun there is literally no need for a red dot outside of it being cool and fun. Get good with irons and you'll be okay; lasers are fine too.

If you liked the tso so much, why not get the tso? There are companies that make optic mounts that screw into the frame using the holes that are there for the thumbrest. If you're feeling up for drilling and tapping one hole, you can use any czechmate mount too.

tfw can't decide between a FN 509 MRD and a G19 MOS.
The FN sounds nice straight OTB vice the Glock needing new sights etc. but literally every glocklike seems to have some weird con(s) to it that you don't get with the glock itself.

Also fucking zero dealers here have a G19 MOS in stock, and it's like $200 more than the vanilla G19 to order for some damn reason. You'd think it was some super niche custom shit instead of a factory-produced model
>>
Seriously what is the front sight on a pistol because i am seriously confused here

I have a rugar PC carbine that has SR9 mags, but can also be switched over to glock mags.
I know there's a lot of people who love glocks, so is there a good reason to go with that for a side arm over the SR9 in my situation?
Outside of a star 9mm and an Lcp2, I only do rifles. So no known preference yet.
>>
Are custom handguns still reliable in adverse conditions, or are looser tolerances better for reliability in the field?
>>
>>51182282
A Glock is the perfect handgun for someone who wants "a handgun" and has no other preferences.
>>
>>51182405
It depends. Custom handguns are made to the end user's preferences, and can be tuned so close to the ragged edge of reliability that they need to be lubed between strings of fire, or not. A semi-custom "duty" gun like a Wilson Combat 1911 will typically be biased toward the more reliable end of the spectrum.
>>
>>51181687
The only reason to go with glock over FN is for the aftermarket support. If you plan on modifying or getting light bearing holsters you’re better off going glock, but I’ll take a stock FNS9 over a stock G19 any day.

I would not recommend the Q5 Steel Frame or FK PSD. Without knowing what else is available in your country and given the lack of LTT I'd say the Shadow 2 OR that you already know about.

Do you have Staccato there?

>>51181275
Oh no, are they going ok? You can get them in with just the hammer face, no need to try to balance the punch on them until they're nearly all the way in. Or maybe not even then.

WAIT! Oh no anon you forgot the DA hook that goes under the front pin!

>>51182445
VERY physically durable. Yeah Holosuns have died to recoil, so have every optic including RMRs, it's the nature of electronics. Holosun as far as I'm concerned is #2 for durability.

I follow some of the YouTube people that run schools for shooting and stuff. From what they've said the vast majority of handgun failures were heavily modified guns. Basically people running tricked out race guns in a dirty tactical course. Doing a trigger mod and an RMR shouldn't be a problem though. Also having a reputable gunsmith do the work helps. Avoid comps for adverse conditions.

Interesting. I want to get pic related, a Phoenix Fusion, for general use : competition/carry/larperating/hunting, but it's a very precisely machined pistol and I'm worried I might need to get a cheaper "duty" style gun for outdoors stuff.

it was a commander, to give you an idea of the size i have no issue carrying
i havent really pistol shopped in a number of years, i just train with what i have, so I have a lot of 1911 9mm magazines, a lot of 9mm, and not a lot of time on other guns.

Not bad really, but enough niggles with it to add up to being frustrated that it costs as much as it does.

The biggest offender is the trigger; it's the standard PPQ trigger. Or rather, it's the newer PPQ trigger with added creep, nothing special. Here's a stock older PPQ next to a stock PPQ Q5 SF. The older PPQ trigger is dramatically better.

Aside from that, the factory grip is overly large but smaller ones are available now, there is a machining artifact right where my thumb knuckle sits and I feel it (have seen others talk about this too), there is an issue of magazine looseness in the magwell which in some guns can lead to damage or stoppages, and to me there is little or no difference in recoil between SF and polymer PPQ despite the massive difference in weight.

But it's still a well made solid object of admiration, is very accurate and has excellent features like optic plates (now available from CHPWS) very nice checkering and options for trigger improvement to really make the trigger exceptionally good (but it doesn't come that way).

I love mine, I just don't think it's a smart buy over a Shadow 2, LTT 92 or even the regular PDP.
>>
>>51183578
OEM G17 trigger, OEM G34 slide release, some snap caps so you don't crack your breechface from dry-firing
don't bother fucking with anything else except the sights
>>
>>51183578
It's all personal preference, especially considering the sheer amount of companies making quality stuff for glocks. I'd shoot it at least 600 rounds before you start messing with it. The talon pro grips are great and a lot less expensive than a stippling job, but I would consider an undercut at some point. G19s rub my knuckle raw, maybe for you tasty isn't an issue though. Sights are a great first upgrade, and I would definitely get it milled for a dot so consider that when looking at sights. Congrats on the g19, you chose wisely.

Don't listen to the
>j-j-just stay stock crowd
Get used to the gun as it is, sure, but once you identified what you don't like (and since it's Glock trust me you will find some) change them.

I recommend extended base pads for your magazines, better sights, minus connector OR a whole different trigger altogether and that's about it, maybe an extended slide release if you feel like it.

No worries, I was having such a hell of a time keeping the hook in place while smacking it, I tried to seat it a bit before driving it through. Over shot and got stuck but eventually drove it back out and did it proper. Now I have a new problem though. The seer isn't engaging the hammer. It will go through a full(ish?) swing when pulling the trigger, noticeably missing the half cock notch in the process. However, pulling the hammer manually produces no engagement with the seer. I really don't want to pull the cage out again but I think I have to. Not sure what I did wrong though.

you fucked up and one of the spring arms in in the wrong spot. strip it and retry.

>>
>>51183842
Ah yeah that addresses 2 of the niggles then. The DR trigger will be great, and that comes with a small grip. You can also modify the factory trigger yourself to fix the break and shorten reset (in the same way that the Dynamic trigger does and the Expert and Champion triggers before it), but the trigger will be the normal plastic ofc not the aluminum flat Dynamic one if that's what you want. Personally I think those straight backed grips are TOO small.

Just breaking it down:

The Q5 Black Ribbon is ~$2,100

A regular Q5 SF Pro with magwell in black or blue is ~$1,500
plus $225 for Dynamic trigger with FCG
plus $65 for extended mag release in black or blue
plus $122 for aluminum small grip in any color
equals ~$1,912 for a gun identical to the Black Ribbon, only you also have the original grip, mag release and trigger/FCG as spares or to sell, and can pick your colors. Just saiyan.

>>51183913
How old is the sear? CGW says don't use a sear that has 1,500(?) rounds or more, something like that.

I haven't looked at mine in awhile so I don't recall just from looking at your pic, but is the sear spring in correctly? Maybe if it's backwards it can hold the sear OFF the hammer instead of pushing it into it

tl;dr When they let me pay $2,000 for one lol

What mag pouches do you guys use for carry? I've got a JM custom kydex AIWB pouch I use but the +2 Glock extensions add a bit of weight towards the top when it's seated and it tends to lean forward, printing a bit. Should I look into other options or just swap the 17+2 for just a 17?

Maybe? The sear spring had managed to uncoil a bit, resulting on this bit being much further down the surface it acts on. After a bit of pushing and poking, I now have spring tension but I can't remember how strong it's supposed to feel and it feels kinda weak. Gonna pop it back in and try it. Does that look like where it's supposed to be? I thought it should be up higher.

Shooting the Glock brand Glock today. 8 yards, offhand.

After installing the TruGlo TFX sights, the gun had to be re-zeroed with the rear sight substantially off to the right, but now that it’s correct, it’s grouping well. Six o’clock hold still kinda annoying but whatever.

>after the 1986 miami shootout, why did the FBI try to invent a whole new cartridge instead of going to one that already existed like .45ACP?
Autism

Because it would've been bad optics for the FBI to switch from 9mm to .45 ACP right after the Army switched from .45 ACP to 9mm. It would have raised a lot of awkward questions.
>>
>>51186254
9mm at the time WAS underpowered, and 45 has capacity limits. 10mm solves both of these but they hire lady boys so had to go down to 40, which has little power increase over 9, and loses capacity, but sunk cost fallacy made them go to it.
Fwiw the extra muzzle flash from 40 has supposedly led to some increase in psychological stops compared to 9mm/38

The FBI "came back" to it, but that's all. The Euros have used it from the start because it was basically the first automatic pistol cartridge worth using, and NATO inherited that, hence the USA's adoption of it.
9mm is the Glock of handgun calibers: it was in the right place at the right time and continues to coast along based on brand recognition and being the bare minimum adequate performer in its category.

Just buy two more of those rugers because they obviously work fine in your situation and you have a lot of acessories for them. If you get the other one back then great you never have to be in this position again.
>>
>>51187090
Do like the >>51187223 anon said and find a range that rents guns. The 26 is nice because every double stack 9mm Glock mag will fit. You can rock 10rnds, 12(10rnd with +2), 15, 17, 19(17w/ +2), 21(Pmag), 24, 27(Pmag) and 33.
The 43x has 10 or 15. Newer 43x's have a rail now, but there are lasers and lights that can be put onto a 26 if you want one.
IDK how to help you decide. I own a Glock33, but I also own a Hellcat which is basically a 43x when I use the 15rnd magazine.

I’m technically supposed to have glasses but it’s not for an astigmatism, it’s just for near sightedness; I lost my glasses years ago though. Lights do have a noticeable flare for me, but not nearly as extreme as that picture. To be fair I’ve never actually used a red dot before, but I always hear people say eotechs are better for people with astigmatisms, so if the eotech looked as horrible as it did, I doubt a red dot will work for me

if you intend to use it for practical pistol competition, know that the TSO would limit you to limited or open division, both of which would essentially require you to load your own ammo, because factory 40sw doesn’t shoot soft enough or cycle reliably enough in a limited gun and 9mm major also needs to be tuned to your particular gun/springs/etc. The CZ shadow 2 would enable you to compete in stock divisions and is your best bet given your priorities. That is, unless you like 1911s, which have extremely good triggers and their own division in many organizations. If I were going to shoot single stack I would get a Dan Wesson Pointman 9. Don’t get a 2011, won’t run reliably unless you know how to reload and tune magazines.

You need the 22 specific FCG. It has a different ejector, that's the only difference.

TLR6 is fine and crimson trace is literally the official accessory company for smith snd wesson, their newer products are higher quality.

I think you should carry what you train with the most and are comfortable with.

Though even with a weapon light I carry a handheld pin light. The weapon light is only a target acquisition aid.
>>
>>51192402
why not wear a plate carrier under my shirt and conceal carry a supressed ar pistol with three extra magazines?
>>
>>51192402
The added recoil control you get from a normal shooting grip probably isn't necessary enough in this use case to justify the added bulk and cost and reduced holster selection associated with a WML
Similarly irons are much more forgiving of sloppy presentation than a dot and are more than adequate for up-close upper-torso shots, even with a threat focused sight picture, and you don't have to deal with batteries, volcanic ash blocking your emitter, etc
Most shooters will benefit more from $800 worth of ammo than from an X300 and RMR [on their carry gun]
>>
>>51190887
The stupid boomers neutered the mete sfx optics cut for only really small optics all because they wanted to keep the rear sights for backup. On a side note Canik keeps their ear to the ground and listens to customer requests and is constantly improving the pistol and this pistol is improvement in every way over the sfx except for the smaller optics cut.

Not saying it is but if the off-center rear is autistically annoying you, you can reduce the offset by moving both the front and rear sights half the distance the other way, to make it appear closer to center :)

>>51188946
TLR1 for sure. HL if it's going to be used outdoors, I prefer non HL for indoors. You can sometimes rarely catch Surefire X300Us for about $170, maybe this black Friday but it doesn't happen often.

>>51190222
You can do that with a Beretta APX and maybe some other modular guns, but I don't think the dust cover will fully cover the recoil spring so that may be a problem eventually with lint or debris if you're rolling in mud. Or you could do the old glonk 17/26 mod with a hacksaw, to the grip length you want using the gun you want (dictated by whatever size magazines you want to base this around).

I think the smart choice is to just get the compact/semi-compact, since the velocity difference is negligible and I don't see a benefit to the extra length to help concealability.

>>51190918
Unfortunately no, God that would be so great why won't somebody make one? The best you can do is turn the brightness down and use a simple reticle, basically a small dot only. There's no magic dot for us.

Nope. I judge guns based on their inherent qualities, it'd take something overtly harmful to my interests to make me avoid a company over politics

I think .40 S/W is great in a steel frame. With technique it feels just like 9mm. According to Paul Harrell's videos its comforting to know that 180gr 1150fps bullets will go just over half way thru an assailants body from virtually any angle shot. .40 is based.

I'm not going to shit on it being 40, since I carry a 3rd gen smith in 40, myself but a used USP shouldn't be 700 bucks. Are 500 dollar police trade ins all gone?
Also, don't take out a loan for 700 bucks. If you can't put it on a 0 apr credit card, then at least do layaway or something.

If you really want to try something out of left field, there's this See All sight that functions almost as an analog red dot. The reviews say it's basically parallax free, it has a triangle for a reticle, and it's illuminated with tritium.
Kinda pricey at $250, but that's for the mount and the optic (Trijicon RMR mount). If I had a pistol with an optics cut, I'd probably try it out because I also have a pretty bad astigmatism.

There's a million different companies that make Glock slides, so I imagine that's probably cheaper; if not it's definitely more convenient because you can still go shoot your gun.
>>
>>51194780
>Is it cheaper to get the slide cut, or to buy a new slide?
if you send yours off, itll take at least a month and probably be around $200
if you can find one, might be better to just buy one and sell your old one if you need the cash
>>
>>51194780
You can buy a new stripped MOS slide so that would be cheaper than a slide cut. Unless you're dedicated to a certain look.
>>

I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure you can get your slide cut at a gunsmith, and the 92 has aftermarket slides; this one is from Langdon Tactical, but it's pricey at like $600
https://langdontactical.com/92-elite-ltt-red-dot-ready-slide/
>>
>>51180391
Glock 42 with nothing special. You dont need pics, you've seen them all over the internet.
And its a backup gun. My EDC is a Sig P365.
>>
>>51195214
>I'm pretty sure you can get your slide cut at a gunsmith
not just any gunsmith since LTT are the only people who can do it now. and yeah it's pricey like you said, but you can send in your slide and they'll cut it for $350
>>
>>51195214
At that price it doesnt seem worth it, unless mounting on the slide is inherently significantly better than mounting it to the rails with the other setup. Its a metal frame though it shouldnt be that shaky
>>
>>51195767
Frame mounted red dots are superior because they don't move when you fire, so you don't have to reacquire the sights. In USPSA shooting, frame mounted optics are only allowed on Open guns I think.

Ask for a picture of the part of the gun nobody would have so he'll have to take a new one, like inside the magwell, the face of the hammer or the locking area of the slide, and if he's actually got the gun buy yourself a cheap gun from an idiot who can't list it right!

That's going to be a very subjective decision. I think the g26 would shoot smoother because it's thicker and heavier. I would personal rather get the 43x because the g26 is a chunky gun and is less comfortable IWB.
