What's your edc knife today? Carrying my CRKT m16-01s.
>>
>>49211648
Question, and I'm asking this with sincerity.
Why should I buy a knife like OPs?
Is there any real advantages over my shitty Winchester aside from build quality?
I'm just stuck in the mindset "I'd rather lose a $20 knife over a $200 knife."
Redpill pls
>>
>>49211708
Thats a 30 dollar knife
>>
>>49211708
why would you buy something you're not comfortable with nor want? dont.
>>
>>49211708
OP here. Honestly I think I got mine for around 20 maybe 30 dollars I cant remember. Its a knife man it cuts like they all do. I just enjoy different styles. It comes down to what you like and how much money you want to spend.
>>
>>49211708

well OP's knife isn't that expensive at ~$30-$40 but knives that do generally cost around $200+ will have better blade steel and better/lighter materials used like titanium or carbon fiber which to some folks matter.

realistically, more expensive knives are purchased as pocket jewelry and for their designs.

t.ZT0560 owner that has only ever used it to open mail.
>>
>>49211708
OP's knife is a 20$ knife and probably is made of a bit better steel than a no name who got winchester to let them use their name for a small royalty fee.
I had the gerber variant for a while and loved it until I lost it.

As for nice knives, for me, there's no reason to carry much more than you're willing to lose. Exception being for your 1 or two high quality skinning knives or a survival knife. The time saved with those can get you off the mountain before dark with more good meat and not be as exhausted later.
For others though, they just like having nice things and nice things are cool sometimes.
>>
>>49211708
You dont need a 200 dollar knife, but you get appreciable benefits in both steel and build quality up around $40-60, so I'd look for a quality company and upgrade your knife. It will just be a nicer experience in general
>>
>>49211708
crkt is shit quality chink knives
>>
>>49211741
I don't have a knife but in general I take care of things and make sure I don't lose shit that costs money over cheaper things
idk
maybe if you bought a nice 200 dollar USA made knife you'd appreciate it more, take care of it and it would probably last a lifetime and support a domestic business instead of some jew that sells chink shit here?

Fair and understandable. I'm no knife guy, CRKT looked familiar and I thought it was one of those Benchmade tier ones.
>>

Yeah, whenever your paying for rent and utilities at my salary, you kinda tend to cherish $200 things more than most.

I carry it because I know that some absolutely autistic poorfag rapebaby on 4chan will lose his fucking mind knowing that someone still carries a Benchmade, despite the fact I purchased this long before the shit they pulled and I'm not going to throw away a perfectly good knife.
Mainly I carry it though because it's quite honestly the best knife I've ever owned. 6+ years and it hasn't failed me yet.

I'm pretty sure BM manufacturing is based in the US. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they outsource some models since everyone does but the only real issues with them are their politics and being overpriced. Good customer service though.

some of their cheaper knives use steel from china. I'm fairly certain everything is actually made in Oregon though.

Looks like one of those companies that puts together Chinese parts and charges Microtech prices. There are a bunch out there.

I'd say it's the modern equivalent to dudes at gun shows with tables full of kit knives being upsold as handmade but that's still widely done at shows and on Amazon.
>>
>>49212812
They make more plain ones too. It's the smoothest axis lock I have got out the box with an incredible edge.
Plus the handle is made of super solid g10 compared to the bendy plastic bugout.
Don't pay that full price but for around like 110 I got it for it's the nicest folder I have ever owned.
>>
>>49213084
It's not bad, legitimately ran it over and it still functions
>>
>>49213084
cobratec knives are the exact same parts and same molds as all the other chinese OTFs out there, including microtech, but dont charge microtech prices.

Partially due to all their blades being D2 steel, you can get an equivalent to a microtech at more than half the price.
I've taken them both apart, its the exact same machining and mechanims, just microtech gets to charge you more for literally nothing.

I was really pleasantly surprised with crkt m16's. Got one on sale on a whim. Gets dirt and dust in every knoock and cranny, blade held up really good till I snapped the tip using it at a screw driver. More of a user error I knew that was going to happen and shouldn't of did it sort of thing, other wise it held sharpness really well. The side lugs things make it super easy to open and work as a cross guard. Neat little knife I like them quite a bit.

Unless you’re a “knife guy” and appreciate different ones, the $30-50 range is the sweet spot. You get better steels, better locks, and nicer designs. It’ll hold up better to use too. If you lose it, then you aren’t out much.

Now if you lose it all the time, take better care of your shit, or if you beat the piss out if your knives (screwdriver, pry bar, etc) then stick to the sub $20 and treat them as replaceable.

>>
>>49216223
I got it for 16 or something with tax at a different store from the bargain bin.>>49216266
I used mine as a screw driver quite a few times, I made the mistake that I should of hit it with the hilt. It holds together really good for hitting things with on the bottom. Screw was just stuck in a way it needed to get hit instead of turned. I tried using cheaper blades for turning screws they bent A LOT more than these, the flex was kind of worrisome about snapping. crkt had a little flex but I wasn't worried about it snapping side from where it did because it was a tanto model and it had a razor sharp blade at that spot ground down to an angle there just wasn't enough material to do that with at the angle I was doing it because it wouldn't of budged the screw even after we got a screw driver. I ended up hitting it and it just went. Real big difference in trying to turn a blade and how much stretch it gets before you kind of start freaking out about it snapping. I'm honestly really impressed with crkts.

Anyone here ever held one of these? Or even carry? Id like to get my hands on one.

Using a knife you got from then way back in the day is perfectly fine, how could any of us have known badly things would turn out. I hate them with a passion though I must admit that there are few of their designs that I'd want to try out if their politics weren't so shitty.
>>
>>49211708
the mentality you are stuck in is negative.
>I can't have a nice thing, because when I lose it I will be upset
this mindset, while practical, prevents you from enjoying the finer things in life. I am not a rich man, I make 32k a year. But when I am going to go through the trouble of spending that money I want to make it count, especially when that money is being spent on something I use or have on my person every single day. Consumerism is gay, sure. but if you are going to consoom, at least get something that you like.

A folding fs knife with a false edge
The only good part of FS knives are that one edge can dull slower than the other. OTF I'd think maybe. The extreme lack of dexterity and common sense with people using blades in that design you'd probably be better off with a clip point. If you're going to stab things that's not going to do any different than a clip point and you'll get more cutting surface from the curve on a clip.

Bucko, I make about 150 to 180k per year and I live in bumfuck flyover land. I guess we can agree I'm not a poorfag. Still I would never but knifes above 100 or 150 dollars. Especially not knifes for daily use. Why? Because when you have reached that sum, the knife doesn't get better anymore. It has a great steel, quality mechanics, awesome finish. Spending 200+ bucks on a knife is comparable to a double brarrel shotgun for 10k: At some point you just pay for the name and luxury materials, not for the quality of the mechanism anymore.

SAKs are cool. But I think they lack:
- The scales suck ass when your fingers are not dry
- On bigger ones (with more tools) it's surprisingly hard to reach the nail nick of the blade and other tools
- I honestly dont want to advertise Switzerland with their stupid logo
- Victorinox nowhere tells you which steel they use. Word is it's X50CrMO but thats not sure. Even if: thats 440A level
- No pocket clip and no possibility to nigger rig one. And those clips for the ring are a sorry excuse imho
I honestly prefer single blade folders and other blade profiles too (no, not Tantos). SAKs are a little bit too much jacks of all trades masters of none for my taste.

>nonlocking
Are you a boomer or just underage?

Its a liner lock knife, aka the handle liner springs behind the blade upon opening to lock it in place. If you mean the thing that acts as a finger guard, it protrudes out the back of the handle when closed and you press it to push open the blade. It’s called a flipper.

Yes, a high point with the same length barrel and the same ammunition with do the same thing as a custom $4000+ pistol. If you give a person whos never held a firearm the choice between a cobra carry or a highpoint, which pistol would they choose?

Reasons? Big blade but quite thin but still strong but lightweight and holds edge as good as any knife (sometimes China makes good shit). Saw back not "real" saw and just sharp but make quick and perfect notch for paracord.

It's now discontinued and apparently I wasn't the only one who loved this knife and it now sells for $125 USED. Fuck me. I put an alert on eBay so it let's me know when listings for this knife are added. A week later I see one is listed for $100 brand new with box and everything. This knife was my go to for times when I needed to carry a "gentlemen's folder". I bought it, but it hurts knowing I paid 3x what I originally paid.

No it's gay because you aren't the marlboro man. Stuff like that is said almost exclusively by fat boomers who can't do much and try to overcompensate. At least say a better line like calling him a slack jawed faggot and telling him to chew to turn him into a goddamn sexual tyrannosaur. Neither you or I are Jesse Ventura but it's an absurd line to the point of humor, or if it's fitting then it's great.

You do realize that calling everyone a fucking zoomer is no different than them bitching about boomers being dumb and out of touch, right? Boomers don't have an excuse for fucking up, zoomers at least have the excuse of being under 25 and not knowing better.

Benchmade temporarily moved some manufacturing to China then moved it back after realizing they're not a company like Apple that can keep charging premium prices for chink shit. But the Chinese factory kept churning out the knives and selling them (serves Benchmade right for trying to be jews) so you can buy a Chinese replica that is the same as the real thing.

How often do you pull out your wallet for someone to borrow? In the middle of a workday when someone needs to open a package while you are working, it's easy to lose track of if they gave it back. When you get home and dump your stuff out, you notice immediately. Unfortunately that coworker took it home or missplaced it, and not everyone has the strength of character to replace your tool. I've lost more knives than I can count. It's much harder to lose something that only you use.

Patrician taste. I'd like to get a Microtech but I can't justify the price and proprietary screws. Worth it?

What exactly do you want a folding knife for? Tactical knife fights? I wouldn’t really trust any locking mechanism on a folding knife if you get into a scuffle.

I have a question, I’m looking for a good quality fixed blade knife for my edc but I’m not coming up with many results I like, I’m looking for something in the fighting/tactical type with around a 5 inch fixed blade, good build quality, any suggestions?

I believe it's 1.4110 that they use. So X50 or X55 is about accurate. Also, there's aftermarket titanium scales with clips and much more grippiness, that is if you're willing to pay the price.
>>
>>49237245
Go the other way with that logic

Its not that I want a folder for OPERATIONZ is that, since folder tasks are so low-stakes, just buy a $20 knife and reallocate the rest of that money into ammo.

There's no point in owning $$$ in folders that you cut tendies with

For a double edge, your options are most likely an OTF knife (Microtech), a balisong (can't think of which companies off the top of my head), or a fixed blade (Cold Steel, Gerber, etc.) Not sure what country you are in, but they can easily be found in the US

Yeah. The hollow-ground blade with clip point is literally designed for flesh. You'll want to make it grippier with tape or by texturing the handle. An aftermarket sheath, probably in thermoplastic, is also advised.

>>49218354
They have a place. I use the scissors on mine all the time, because pressure on both sides of a cut is so often useful for me. The blades also slice really well and don't scare people when you don't want to draw attention to yourself. Considering that they're lighter than most pliers oriented multitools, there's no excuse to not carry one model or another.

looking at that blade i think it'd take a considarable amount of effort to "still work" if it wasn't for the serrations

How about the Spyderco Endura in K390 steel and fully serrated edge? K390 isn't stainless, but holds an edge very well, and the endura's blade is only 2mm shorter than that of the BM Adamas. Grip is thinner though, but it also is less than half the weight so itll carry nicer.

I've bought 5 over the years. Overall can't beat for price. Bit thin but that keeps it light and easy to put a raunchy quick sharp but it comes very sharp and stays sharp even with some abuse.

WTF happened to "zero launch"?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnstAkV63Dk
Seems like better idea than VTOL in many ways.

What if such was "baked in" from the start? Launch sideways off helio carrier or even rear deck of frigate and they'd have to land somewhere else but now we got A2A refueling so not as much as issue.

Now with everyone and his uncle got long range semi-accurate rocket artillary and cruise missiles seems like keeping all your combat jets on big airbase and its big runway seems more of an issue than back in Steve's day.

How about a "baked in" jet rocket combo with LIQUID fuel rocket for both zero launch AND emergency speed. Yeah, I know jet w/rocket motor been tried before but that was back in Cold War and issues have "evolved" and we got better tech.
