Post your favorite military aircraft and other anons will tell you why it's wrong. I'll start.
>>48417020
>>48417031the US in response to this excellent plane made the best fighter jet of all time to counter it
>>48417043>French
>>48417068Not only was it an expensive hanger queen, but it also got killed by the fucking Hornet
I just love it bros
>>48417020>other anons will tell you why it's wrongIt's not armed...
>>48417068Bad at dogfighting, main armament didn't work well, underpowered, too overspecialized, expensive. That is one of the easiest planes to tell why its wrong to like it, I don't know why people still like it other than top gun memes and boomer nostalgia, which are also shit things on their own.
>>48417069>Swiss>air force
>>48417266Yeah, it also manages to bring everyone out of the woodwork who think they're geniuses for pointing out things everyone already knows.
>>48417020W I D E B O I
>>48417043>MiG-23>excellent
>>48419529when watching old History channel shows they're all about talking positive about the aircraft that the "good guys" are going up against to make the victory more triumphant. yet the ONE aircraft they never did it for was the MiG-23, they just could not stop talking shit on it and looking back on it, it's quite funny.>extremely poor visibility, literally described to be a coffin>extremely underpowered >swept wing rushed into an aircraft that can barely make use of it>mechanical nightmare that was a bluff waiting to be called like the MiG-25
Wild Weasel nuff said.
>>48417020>highest loss rate in the vietnam war>still loved by the pilots, crew chiefs, and by the air force staff>was the second-to-last of the air force's century fighters to be retiredHow the fuck do you make a plane where 1/5 get shot down but they're still held in such high regard?
>>48417020MiG 19 Farmer>>48419667Look at that skinny ass tail baka
>>48419667Gotta go FAST
>>48417020Doesn't matter if it's shit it's saved my buddies lives. The sound a GAU-8 makes is music to my ears
>>48419977
>>48419360Cant be helped when the plane really had no merits.
Junkers JU-87 Stuka.
>>48419977I wish to boop the snoot
If you're out of F-8s, you're out of fighters.
>>48419667Absolutely abysmal doctrine. These keys could have been utilised far more effectively than they were. There was nothing wrong with the design itself.
>>48419998had plenty of merits but required an above average pilot and rio to take advantage of it. not worth when you can make simpler machines that are even better
Delta wings are cool.
>>48417069This is the sexiest plane ever made, no question about it.With that said, regarding OP...>>48417020Generally, you always want a squadron of MIG-21s, in all situations, regardless of the question.Let me explain. The F-16D is our excellent generalist shitbox which comes in at 30 mil USD. Let's stretch the realistic payload from:>Payload: two 2,000-pound bombs, two AIM-9, two AIM-120 and two 2400-pound external fuel tanksto 6 AIM-120 and 6 AIM-9x. Whatever. For 30 mil, you can get FIFTEEN fucking MIG-21s that are coming in high, fast, and smoking hot. Even if EVERY SINGLE FUCKING MISSILE IS A HIT, the F-16 still has THREE fucking SOVIET MURDER MACHINES to contend with.Just like the F-35, it can't run, it can't hide, it can't turn. Of course, because the MIG-21s are imparting more altitude and speed to their missiles, the F-16 would be blown out of the sky before any of this happens, but let's say it does.At this point the F-16 is a sitting duck. If it tries to go to cannons, it will get out-turned by the lighter, faster, higher T/W ratio MIG-21. If it tries to run, it will get popped. If it tries to climb...well, the MIG-21s are already above it.Really, the MIG-17 or the MIG-9 could do the job as well, but this is simpler to explain.
I know there are limits on design, but I wish we had innovative designs again. But I know, air only flows one way.
Sorry can't hear criticism from planes that haven't killed a satellite.
>>48420191Jesus christ you have no idea how the 21bis achieves its performance do you?Fucking zoomers
Although it''s a F-16 derivative, a squadron of these has the potential to decimate entire water surface fleets.
>>48420147>had plenty of meritslike what?
abs lol
>>48417043That was the MiG-25
Pinnacle of human space flight
>>48421123>space flightim fucking dumb. pinnacle of human flight*
>>48421689Wrong because ship lives matter!
>>48417150It's an interceptor forced to do air superiority, ground attack and cap. It's become a jack of all trades, master of none.
>>48421745often times better than a master of one
>>48421123>>48421131KekDon't worry anon, no one noticed.
>>48421123I noticedmind if I park here?
This is a nice spot"Fump"
>>48421810hmmm
>>48421823god dammit
>>48421829Not this again!
>>48421834AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
>>48421840I hate all of you!I HATE all of you!
Wow. Look at him go.
>>48417031I didn't know you were into manned target planes.
>>48417377They actually have a functioning air force unlike the austrians
>>48417043It's french.
>>48422459>functioning air force>Switzerland couldn’t deploy any jets and intervene because the air force only worked during office hours (8am-12pm and 1.30pm-5pm)
>>48417266>main armament didn't work wellWrong. It didn't get a lot of kills in US service purely because it was a very expensive standoff weapon reserved for the biggest threats. It took down plenty of fighter-sized and maneuvering targets in the Iran-Iraq war
>>48417020Caprono Ca. 316. I love it because it looks cool, I also like the SM 79
>>48417095wrong
>>48419667>How the fuckthey have different standards
>Only 1 was ever builtFeels bad man
A-7E Corsair II is mah planefu
>>48422493As of a few weeks ago the swiss air force has at least 2 F/A-18Cs ready 24 hoursAnd the case that sparked the controversy is also taken out of context. The ethiopian aircraft flew mostly over french airspace and approached geneva airport from the southGo check it on google maps, the border is a couple hundred metres to the south-west. Scrambling fighters for that would have been pointless.
fokker dr1 best plane
>>48421107Which in turn was built by intel from /cangen/'s planefu.
>>48430382No it wasn't. They have nothing in common.
>>48430656We'll never get closer to /k/ino sci fi.
>>484210942 operators, good t/w ratio, good low-speed performance, incredible turn-rate at cornering speed. but yes, lets pretend like it has no merits because that makes you feel smart.

>>48417377>Literally a Bullseye
>>48417069>>48417043>>48422465I love how the Only thing wrong with this aircraft is that it is made by filthy frogs.Everything else is just perfect
>>48431326always thought that the Tomcat was a pig that couldnt maneuver worth shit, cool if true.
>>48417069Didn't know that there are medical vehicles in the Air Force.
This is objectively the finest military aircraft ever produced. If you disagree you are wrong, and quite probably a pervert of some kind.
>>48438431I dislike the vertical stabilÃzer, there is no reason to not have it as far, to the back as humanly possible, longer leaver force means you could have less surface area or more force. Either way, it's bad design. Same gig on the corsair, but apart from the wings that thing is hideous anyways.
>>48438663>that thing is hideous anyways. The Corsair? Or the Mossy? Or the Star-fighter you posted there? Because for the Star fighter at least there are elements of better/more fun aircraft I can see there.
>>48438808Corsair, Like everybody I love the W shaped profile but the cowling looks too straight edged, the vertical stabilizer is what I described and the cockpit bubble just looks weird.I think Starfighters are up there with some the most beautiful planes in history, only being bested by some sea/floatplanes. Plus they are dangerous, which is cool. Here's a quick shop that will surely gather many "fans" around here from corsair nerds. Sry guys but your airplane is just hideous between the wings.
>>48438808>we didn't have enough budget to build wings
>>48438431relocated the stabilizer and shortened the tail about one foot.
>>48439003Thrust is a fantastic substitute for wings.I personally always had my thrust issues with gliders for example.
>>48439003When you're trying to be the first to break Mach 3, you don't need 'wings'.
>>48439330Forgot my pic
>>48439089WTF? She's hideous now. What the hell is wrong with you?
>>48439352see you have stockholm syndrome from your ugly, inefficient tail.
>>48439416edit, I know that's a bolt (d?) thing to say as a supersonic t-tail fuckhead. The irony isn't lost on me, yet it doesn't alter the truth.
>>48439416Fuck you! Mosquito only beats me because she loves me!
>>48439343If you'd give it a vtail and a 2nd pair of engines, it would be the proto normandy sr2 from mass effect. But I'm too lazy to shop that rn.
>>48439475It's over, anon! Mosquito can't hurt you anymore...
>you are now aware that Dassault is the Porsche of fighter aviation>this is the Cayenne of course
>>48439549the fat VAG suv that has nothing to do with the spirit of the make?
>Tu-22M>bears no resemblance at all to the Tu-22It was a quiet ride home from the hospital
>>48417020>was literally the result of another prototype aircraft being canceled and money being leftover in the program>also designed overnight by three guys in their washington d.c. hotel room>one of those men had a simple design philosphy of building a plane around a huge fuck-off powerful engine, in this case was the same one found on b-29s>showed it to the navy project bureau the next day who were amazed with the design and what was projected to be done with it>first iteration is one day late to its first flight but handles amazingly well>problem in that there's already tons of aircraft that fit the skyraider's role, both new and as surplus from the war>navy still allows for low production run of them, gradually boosting the order over time>goes into naval service and has a brief yet victorious triumph over another aircraft, the am-1 mauler>navy fully commits to the ad skyraider and does it pay off>serve amazingly well in korea and compliment the fighter-bomber corsairs well in close air support>often carries slightly over its own weight in ordnance and gets a slew of names like the flying dump-truck and pedigree pulverizer >also is put to use in other roles, such as a personnel and medical transport, cargo aircraft, electronic countermeasures, and submarine role>one verison even has provisions to carry nuclear ordnance, the only single-engined prop aircraft to be allowed for this role>continues into service in vietnam>south vietnamese pilots complained abotu the size of the aircraft and it not being jet-powered, but still put it to amazingly good use>u.s. air force takes them in as attackers and in the rescue combat air patrol/rescap role>countless u.s. pilots saved from checking into hanoi hilton because skyraiders cleared out enemy ground fire to allow for pilot extraction by helicopter>despite not ever lobbing a nuke on gooks, it did drop god damn toilet on the slant eyed fuckers>gets retired in the '70sFind a flaw. pro-tip: you can't
>>48439609It's the big porsche
>>48439621really ugly and then really cool again, like hinds
>>48439621incredibly based plane. Also here is my planefu, please be nice to her

>>48421075Good choice anon, infinitely more aesthetic than the boomer F-16
>>48439617He looks tired and sad.
>>48439676Porsche 959
>>48439760How many should it have? 5+5 makes 10, it's a metric aircraft.
>>48439647Obligatory>two turning>two burning>two smoking>two choking>two more unaccounted for
>>48439702>>48439760
>>48440320I'll admit that my only understanding of aerodynamics comes from fucking around in KSP, but that does look kind of fun.
Simple as
>>48417068it triggers /k/ even more than russian and chinese planes while being american, so no flaws there
>>48440337It's the worst placement possible, if it was on the nose and adjusted probably it would at least function as a very unstable canard.
>>48440449>It's the worst placement possibleIs that because it's too close to the center of mass, and therefore doesn't get any leverage to pull the plane around? Or am I just being retarded?Would this be any better?
>>48419977I talked to a controller who had a funny story about that. He routed a gun run and as it went he could hear the guys on the other end of the line whooping it up about how much they loved the A-10, which was curious because the plane that had just done the run was a F/A-18. Apparently this happened a lot.
Because fuck your city
>>48440618correct. if it get's sideways this thing has no leverage to pull the plane straight again, introducing stall and rapid unscheduled disassembly shortly after... and with the control surface reduced to a mere airbrake(which you wouldn't wanna use, speed being your only hope) you are left with nothing but prayer that the engine pull and the airflow around the fuselage are enough to keep it pointing into the oncoming wind.Speaking of prayer, I killed god, here's my Lockheed s3aStar frankenstein flying boat. Yea I deserve worse than death for what I've done, I know.
>>48440849In my head it started out halfway decent and then ended up all kasbian.
>>48440889
>>48440849>rapid unscheduled disassemblyPlane go boom?>Those picsI mean, it looks like it can fly ...
>>48440497

>>48439621>be me, naval aviator in 1962 aboard the USS Enterprise>those bastards did it>world war three has begun>get in my skyraider>wtf is fred loading a fucking nuke onto my plane>mfw i have to fucking drop a nuke in a fucking piston engined plane
>>48439809>Shot down less aircraft during Desert Storm than the fucking A-10Cause all the Iraqis fled as soon they realized a Tomcat was locked on them. They learned that trick during the Iran-Iraq war.
>>48441413My great uncle flew the sky raider ajd was training to do the nuke mission. He said he was glad he never actually had to carry the bomb, because if he used it he probably wouldn't make it.
The early MiG-29 models (9.12/9.13) are probably the prettiest fighters ever made, while the later (9.17) models are probably the ugliest.
>>48442238that's pretty cool. glad he never had to carry it either, lmao
>>48439647She biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggg
>>48420130this was the same reason the F-4 got such inflated death rates in vietnam. when used properly by the USN or later the Israelis an Iranians, the plane did perfectly fine. but when you use a super-sonic multirole for low and slow CAS and as a gunfighter, its no wonder shit goes wrong quick.
>>48421100Traps are gay, that's what's wrong.
>>48422858Based muds
>>48445352There weren't enough aircraft in SEA for the luxury of sending Skyraiders, Broncos, Mohawks, OA-37s etc everywhere and Phantom got the job done. Losses are acceptable. It's war. Phantoms could carry a greater variety of stores than any fighter since but went away because they were insanely maintenance intensive (I worked them at Moody when the 69th were still the Dragons) and F-15 was a better performer. Noobs forget cost of operation is real and there was no practical way to shrink the maintenance unit sizes. We even had our own sheet metal troops in the AMUs.
yes yes hello
>>48439809>Was such an embarrassment that the navy stopped sending them up to practice BFM against the air force because it kept losingWhen did that happened? I thought they kept practicing with them even with the late Bs and Ds.
