Is it possible to build protection against 120mm APFSDS or HEATFS with materials available to civilians?
>>47974058Yes. But not easily. Or cheaply.
do they have dirt where you are from? Cinderblocks?
>>47974156But can I move around with it? How thick do I need to stack the blocks?
>>47974058Sure, 1500mm thick RHS will do the trick. As for defeating them with a tank that can actually move under it's own power APS shaped charges are the best bet to reduce penetration enough that tank armor can stop what's left.
>>47974222They can penetrate 20 inches of RHA steel. Whatever the equivalent amount of dirt or cinderblocks is to that. Just make sure its equal to 21 inches of RHA steel and you're good to go.
>>47974058>Is it possibleYes, and also...no.
>>47974058Thin enough armor that shit overpenetrates and hope you're not in it's path. Being obscured or mobile is best
>>47974058Yes, it will just be really thick. Like feet thick.
>>47974058what and be mobile? building a wall doesn't seem so hard just layer rubber some steel sheet, put in some airgaps and give it a backing of something heavy and dense like reinforced concrete. It's gunna be thick though.
>>47974058An AT field.
just add more dirt
>>47974058Steel and ceramic reinforced concrete, lots of it. A grid structure of rebar with a tile between each layer, so every 2 inches. Make that shit 3 feet thick. You won't be able to find a vehicle with enough power to move that hunk around.Modern KE projectiles have immense force and you need an assembly of high tech materials that make up the composite to keep it compact enough to fit on a vehicle.
>>47977330just use reactive armor desudon't stand too close to the tank maybe
>>47977352>justWhere do you get the state of the art plastic explosives from?
>>47977357you can use any explosive with reactive armor you just need the complicated detection system to set it off at the right time, not that you couldn't build it.
>>47977365dosent explosive reactive armor detonate when hit so why would you need a detonation system
>>47977431no, you need to create a detonation wave to cancel out the incoming projectile as much as possible and you cant wait till impact to do sothere's been incidents when soldiers have been injured by reactive armor by standing too close when the detection system malfunctioned
Why not just use water bottles as armor. Bullets can't penetrate water more than like a few feet, so why don't we use water as armor? Bonus is you can drink it, and maybe freeze it and it will be harder to penetrate. Plus you can empty the water for transport and be way lighter.
>>47977468I should also point out that if it only triggered on impact you would need to cover the entire vehicle in explosive, if it doesnt hit explosive the armor would be useless.
Take the combat engineering pill.HESCO
>>47977494you can't carry a few feet of water with you any more than you can carry a few feet of dirt
>>47977494pic related is a 45 acp, traveling about 320 m/s delivering 559 Joules of energyA 120 mm APFSDS travels 1,670 m/s delivering 12100000 Joules ~12MJ of energyyou would need swimming pools of water
>>47977533what happens when something goes supersonic underwater, I don't think there's a whole lot of public knowledge on this
>>47977543>>47977533120mm APFSDS fired under water when?
>>47977543for the projectiles we're talking about specifically, they would rip themselves apart the faster they tried to go thru water
>>47977365That's not ERA, you're talking about an active protection system. Back to Warthunder faggot.
>>47977543water is denser than air, so the speed of sound is higher, about 1496 m/s or 4908 ft/s is retard unitscurrently its impossible to accelerate anything underwater to these speed
>>47977365>>47977468ERA is detonated by the impact, APS is the complex radar system that detects the threat then throwns a shaped charge / claymore at it.
>>47974058Yes. 2 meters of any steel. 1200 mm of AR500 plates stacked. Problem solved.
>>47974058Rocks are quite common to civilians. You just need very large ones.
>>47977352Abrams armor is reactive armor. NERA non energetic reactive armor.
>>47974222Concrete is about 0.4 resistance of RHA to HEAT and about 0.2 to sabot.Lose dirt is about 0.3 vs HEAT and 0.1 vs sabot. So take penetration of round you want to stop and multiply by this amount.
>>47974058About two feet of concrete should work.
