The GLK is among the most /k/ cars.- Surprisingly rugged, tough, and durable- Good off-road- Good on fuel- Absolutely minimal software- Easy to fix- Grayman - Space-efficient: Compact, yet can still seat five grown men in reasonable comfort.- Quicker than Toyota

They don't have lockers have they use brakes to regain traction. Works great in snow and slippery shit doesn't do well crawling. Also the suspension is made of cheese and likes to collapse at random. Every effecient for a car of its size though. >minimal software>easy to fixYou're joking. They need special obd2 readers, and even the egr goes through ecu and it won't run without it. If it goes into limp mode you gotta unplug the battery and sit around for an hour or two. Unless you got that special obd2. The electric throttle is known to fail and it won't run without the plug and feedback. >>47966325They're the butt of every joke but in reality they're off road perfection. The way the cab is stubby means the weight is center low, the suspension is already got plenty of clearance and room for improvement the drive train is toyota strong and the gearing is great. If Americans wherent retards who thought Italian Chrysler is good, the fj is better it pretty much every way to the jeeps.I'm convinced toyota likes to make an excellent vehicle out of the blue just to raise up the average resale of its cars or something.

>>47966325Just get a 4runner/10
>>47964924Officially Hilux because technicals. They're not really available in America though, so we have to settle for any body on frame Toyota truck, at much greater cost and not all of which are as solid. Still, more reliable than most vehicles with either rust issues, electrical gremlins, shit engines, glass transmissions or all of the above. Also unpopular opinion, but I think any vehicle intended for tactical applications should be automatic, which limits things even more because most automatic transmissions on any affordable vehicle on the US market are under engineered time bombs. Trouble is trying to drive one with an injured arm of leg, of heaven help you if you are totally incapacitated and someone else has to take over, of you just panic and pull a James Yeager. Manuals are a more pure driving and ownership experience, but if someone is actively trying to kill you it's an added complexity that doesn't help.>>47966325Amazing, underrated, but ugly and enough people know about them that they're a bit expensive. Worth it though if you can get past the looks and price.>>47966156Just, no. It may be less awful than most Mercs, but it's a Merc. There will be gremlins everywhere that will stack up and be a nightmare to diagnose let alone fix, and the actual off-road capabilities are limited.Something like a regular Subaru would be much better, and those have their own issues such as weak head gaskets and glass CVT transmissions.

Hunters, hunters with scoped, large caliber hunting rifles, many of whom know a fair bit about bushcraft and stealth, MANY of whom are retired military or police, nearly all of whom are pro-gun and at least skeptical of government. There are lots of elmer fudds for sure. but if even 1% of american hunters turned into insurgents thats ~100,000 snipers of varying skill level.
Bro’s, I need your helpI’m looking at getting either a Tacoma, Tundra, or 4Runner new or a couple years old. Will be getting one with the 4x4. Which is the most reliable long term and will have the least amount of issues? I plan on keeping the vehicle for as long as I can.
>>47968832Tundras have had an ongoing issue with cam tower leaks on the 3UR-FE. I used to be a tech at Toyota and would see the issue somewhat regularly in trucks with under 100k on them. I have not kept up since I left that job in 2016 and not sure if it was addressed or recalled. Some Tacomas had a frame rust recall and was addressed. New 4Runners are sick. Great cargo space. It's hard to beat the versatility of have a truck bed you can haul shit around in. Also>fucking Tacoma taxWould you be buying new or used?
>>47969071Thanks for the reply. I will be buying new. I’m definitely leaning towards the Tacoma or 4Runner over the Tundra. Didn’t know about the Tundra’s issues. I have heard about the rust problems with the Tacoma but it has been addressed. Between the Tacoma and 4Runner, is one significantly better than the other?
>>479691454Runner can sit more people comfortably and overall has a nicer interior. Rear seats fold down and give a space big enough for a sleeping space. There are also a lot of aftermarket accessories for additional cargo space.Taco had a bed though, if you hunt you can throw a dead buck back there no problem. Can also haul firewood or whatever else. The utility of a truck is great, but if you are concerned with regularly transporting more that 4 people I would go with the 4Runner. Do a pro/con list and see which one you would ger more use of

>>47966575subaru problems are maintenance problems, 3k oil change intervals reduce head gasket/cam carrier, valve cover seepage due to reduced oil acidification. The cvt if the fluid is changed every 30k will last. part of the problem is that the cvt is that there is no oil change specified unless you follow the severe service guidelines which indicate a change every 24k, surely a change between infinity and 24k would be sensible for a normal car. The real problem on subarus is the rear wheel bearings the others are just maintenance issues caused by poor service interval guidelines.

What's the latest year 4runner I should get, and do they really go for 500k+ miles on normal maintenance or will that need rebuilding on everything by then?I've been toying with the idea of a more off-road friendly, reliable 2nd car for going innawoods instead of trying to compromise with my daily driver.

>>47990263Depending on your budget, id go for an early 2000’s Landcruiser. For 8-15k you can get them in good shape with relatively low miles <150k. Early 2000’s have the fucking bulletproof 4.7 V8, have more room, theyre comfy af inside, they have a lot of nice accesories, and a unique full time 4wd system that’s great for all kinds of conditions, applying power to the rear and the front wheels as needed. They also have a much greater towing capacity, and the transmission on the Landcruiser is also tough as hell, routinely holding up well beyond 350k.If youre wanting a cheaper 4wd SUV like <4k range, id check out the early 2000’s/late 90’s Jeep Cherokee, theyre common as hell, extremely reliable, have a bunch of aftermarket parts available, cheap to service, etc. 4runners are good, but of the cars like these ive dealt with, the 4runners have had a lot of trouble from Transmission, Head gaskets, Radiator, Ignition Coils, etc. There’s a reason early 2000’s 4runners are so much cheaper proportionately than early 2000’s Landcruisers. Toyota Tacos and Nissan Hardbodies are worth looking at, theyre expensive, but good little trucks for the money, just make sure to get a manual. Avoid early Rav4/CRV, a lot of trouble. Avoid Isuzu, espeically the vehicross pieces of shit. Avoid Landrover!!!!Be careful with Monteros, theyre pretty good, but a lot people beat them to hell, and they have valve stem issues. Rangers are pretty good, esp in manual. Jeep Wranglers are good for the most part, great offroad, fairly reliable (by american standards), cheap to work on, a lot of aftermarket shit, etc.

>>47989529Forever. You can find the shittier early Gen 3’s (2015,2016) with 300K on the clock all day with the original engines and trannies.People who call them shit boxes are frankly just wrong. It’s the best small pickup out there by far. Everything will have its issues, but the Tacoma’s are fairly benign and can be addressed with the after market if they bother you enough. Gas mileage is on the lower end in its class, but with good tires they can go literally anywhere. Engine and Transmission are bullet proof. Plenty of power to tow a bass boat or reasonable trailer. Aftermarket means you can overland the hell out of it and make an a awesome outdoor machine. Easy to repair. Modern tacos are still great, there are just a lot of faggot contrarians out there.

The 4runners i had trouble with, were mainly the mid 90’s models. The later models are pretty solid.
