The extreme taper on the 7.62 cartridge was designed to aid in extraction, so I can't imagine it was for that. The gun wasn't designed for a piston system so theres a lot of fine tuning that needs to go into it to make sure you dont overstress various parts of the rifle. That one is new (not even released yet) and looks pretty promising for as close to a drop in as you can get though.
