/brg/ -Battle Rifle General #117
Best battle rifle edition.
Post your BRs here
Russian battle rifles are allowed but no 762x39
Dmrs and precision rifles are allowed while you bootstrap /prg/
buy an FAL
buy a PTR
Buy an m1a and get boolied
booly m1a boomers here but defend them with your last dying breath everywhere else
laugh at century owners
laugh at caliberlets
laugh at that one guy that the m1a lives rent free within
This just in, many used m1as are going for incredibly low prices and it has nothing to do with the corona virus.
Scars are a waste of money, change my mind
Galils (not ace) are top shit and you wont change my mind
breaking in your PTR will suck but only for 200 rounds
workout routine talk as well, commies wont slot themselves and your FAL wont carry itself innawoods.

No traps, trips, or airsoft (besides PTR handguards)

I fucking love Cold War battle rifles bros. There's something weirdly romantic about the (fairly impractical) doctrine of individual soldiers making hits with irons sights at 400-500. A thin line of good men using their FALs, Stgw-57s, and M14s to defend Western Europe from the godless communist horde.

I run a mayflower gen VI pusher. I can take a pic real quick but it'll be low res. its pretty top tier and comes with inserts so I can use my AK mags when i want to and swap out inserts for 7.62x51 mags. I don't own any 5.56 rifles but it comes with a 5.56 insert too.

Hi BRG, had a few questions regarding my Century R1A1. I'm trying to make it correct for a Commonwealth L1A1. obviously, the century brake from way back in the day is an eyesore, I never got around to replacing it. my question is, where is this thing welded on, and how can I be sure it is even threaded or threaded properly to accept an L1a1 flash hider? Should I just Dremel it off? I've tried cranking it vice vice and pliers, among other things. Thanks guys. pic related is the brake

for 2500 you might be able to afford getting one pieced together with a 5.56 parts kit and some other parts. im doing that right now but if youre a noguns just buy a PTR first so you actually have a battle rifle before you begin a months long process to build a parts kit 308 galil.
>>
>>47362712
>Should I even be looking at a Galil to start?
Maybe? Go big, do it right. You invest in an IMI Galil and your investment will appriciate. But you really want a shooter, right? There are many AR10 resources that get you in with accurate rifles for about a grand. That leaves ~$800+ for glass and accessories, which you will want.

Options are very limited for .308 Galil's, but if you want an already completed rifle, you have 3 options:
- Ohio Rapid Fire kit build
- Tortort Kit build
- CNC warrior Kit Build
- Pre-Ban IMI Galil (Imported by Magnum Research or Action Arms)
The kit builds don't come up for sale often, but you're looking at $2500 minimum for one of those pre-built.
ORF no longer makes receivers, but Tortort and CNC warrior does still sell .308 receivers,
however the Tortort does come with a .308 bolt, and the CNC warrior does not,
so you can get one built with a surplus 5.56 Galil kit and a .308 barrel from AWO as long as you have the .308 receiver and bolt.
Pre-Ban IMI Galil's will be the top-tier choice on account of them being factory made IMI guns.
But at the moment, prices on those are around $4000-$5000.
The model 329 and 329S are the .308 AR models that come with just a black polymer handguard.
The model 332 and 323 are the .308 ARM models that come with the wooden handguard, carry handle, and bipod and tend to sell for higher than the 329/329S.

Decided I'm going to send just the barrel to Mark to get the gas block installed. I'm positive I can do the assembly myself and I want to trust his expertise on the proper gas port size and not DSA.
>>
>>47365918

>>
>>47365918
Sounds good man, I've built a couple of FALs, and yeah everything is super easy, screwing in the barrel is the hardest part if you don't have the tools, and I imagine putting in the gas block (mine was already on) would also require a bit more work. Everything else is super basic though.
>>47365928
Wow, rude.
>>
>>47365743
But the SCAR is really, really BORING.
>>
So do the airsoft wide handguards actually fit onto a ptr 91?
>>
>>47365928
He's made some good points about DSA having geometry errors in their magazine wells and gas port sizes, something that they could've rectified a long time ago. I'll pay more for a precision installation the first go around rather than having a fucked-up gas port that requires a new barrel.
>>47365958

Yeah you could probably make due with dowel rods, as haphazard as it would seem, I didn't use clocking rods, I eyeballed it with the rear sight. Probably not a good idea so I cannot recommend it, but it worked for me. If you want it done right, I'd recommend going to a professional like ARS (I DIY'd it) but the peace of mind would be well worth it IMHO.

Youve got to concede that the bipod color scheme matches the factory color mismatch rather nicely. But yeah, I am not a fan of the Fagpul bipod or any cheap bipod. Why add the weight of a shitty bipod when taking a knee or seated postion is far superior or more expedient to deploy than a crappy bipod? Learn your shooting positions, guys! And put a Ching sling on that thing! Ching slings are far nicer to use than shitty bipods.

Id buy a CETME C parts kit, they're cheap as fuck on apex right now and will have every single part that you need and a few you don't. sell off the furniture to that one PTR guy who wanted wood furniture. Sell the triple tree since PTRs are based on g3s and sell some of the other random stuff thatll never break, or keep it just incase.
>>
>>47366892
Extractor springs will last as long as the barrel. Nothing else really wears down much. Get another buffer spring and bolt spring if you want but you'll probably never need them.

Other than that, +2 rollers will take you to 30k rounds easy. Eventually the receiver can start to wear out... I've never seen a ptr with a bulged receiver so don't know when that starts to happen. But vegas full auto rental mp5s last 150k rounds without maintenance with the MAD bolt that has upgraded extractor designs.

Well it's a DPMS Toolcraft BCG so should work. When the BCG reaches all the way back the bolt doesn't come forward and I think it might be hitting the notch in the upper where the charging handle nubs slot in.

Np buddy. For the record this is how the M1a turned out. If you're comfortable you can try to put some pressure on the split in order to open it a bit to get more epoxy in. Idk that I'd recommend that, though.

I might try sticking an oversized dowel through that hole . The top crack I definitely stretch open but the lower one maybe not.

My guess for a PTR in order of operations is this:
Recoil Spring (easy replace, most common fail part afaik). Buy 2 for the hell of it. Cheap.
Additional Rollers, various sizes.
Spare Cocking Handle, unless you do the Norweigan thing and just make it steel.
Springs of all sorts, except maybe trigger spring because it's fucking chonky and likely won't be an issue
Lastly, firing pin, or alternatively just have a spare BCG in ready condition to toss in.

Likelihood is you won't get any further than the recoil spring. Any other parts "failing" likely means the gun is fucking itself to death; a broken buffer likely means warped receiver or stockplate. Shitty barrels are gunsmith territory for replacing. etc.

I just finished my nightly workout, I was a bit late tonight since I was celebrating a friends birthday. Rate my workout.
>50 pushups, good form, repeating any with bad form. Every break I take I have to add that number pushups, so my first break I add one pushup, my second I add two and so on.
> 50 situps, same idea as the pushups rules.
> 50 squats, with my rifle in my arms fully extended out. So the rifle is as far from my body as possible for more upper body plus the same rules as pushups and situps.
>Do this in the morning when I wake up, and at night before bed in full gear both times.
The feeling of my arms wanting to give out just by taking off my chest rig is amazing. That feeling of satisfaction is borderline addicting. Although occasionally ill have to take a day off so I can recover and not just fuck my body up.

it definitely does, it keeps you sharp as well since you have to pay attention to not trip over roots or fall into the river youre running two feet away from. >>
>>47369705
woah, that's weird. might be a bad buffer or buffer spring. I don't think there's anything on the bcg that's supposed to be able to catch on those little slots. if you're spring compresses too much I suppose the bolt carrier key could catch there. I'm sure it's that the case though you'd be able to see some where on the sides of the key. could also be that the buffer plunger is sticking out a little too far up, but I'm not sure. you could try asking Instructor chad in youtube.
>>
>>47368848
gotta get what you can when you can. I got the lower purely cause it was on sale last month and figured it would take a year for me to put it together, was just luck that finances and a sale lined up just now.

It only happens if you slam the action all the way open (manually or shooting) but doesn't if you just rack it a few times by hand. That made me think the buffer spring may have been involved but it says jammed even if you take the buffer tube off. That's why I thought the key was the part jamming on the upper. I took it out cleaned it and spin it 180* but still happens.

>>
>>47376825
I have to slam the side of the reciever hard to unjam it when the rifle is complete. It's totally solid in pic above, will not move forward or aft.
First I was taking the buffer tube off then seperating the recievers to pull the BCG out the back. Later I figured out I could reach in and pull the bolt itself forward to unjam it, which is what is causing the jam as far as I can tell. I tried taking every part off I could think of in testing.
I asked around for another bolt but haven't heard back yet.

So I'm seconds away from buying a PTR 91 102 version with the welded pic' rail and M-lok handguard. Should I just do it or wait for something else? FAL have ballooned in price greatly and the only FAL I like are $1800+ and there's no fucking way I'm buying a $1000 beat to shit parts kit. Any suggestions for a quality rifle under $1400 that isn't an AR?
>>

Either do it or buy a Garand from CMP.
>>
>>47387379
I thought about it but I want this to be my SHTF rifle option. I already have a decent AR but I prefer 762x51 to get past trees, cars, houses etc. Originally I wanted an FAL really badly but I put it off for years and now it's too much for what you get. Plus DSA has made the cheapest FAL option out of chinese pig metal that isn't to original specs.

>>47387379
>get an almost mint stg kit
It's too basic. I have bad eye sight so I need a nice optic and some basic but still modern accessories.

Ordered my PTR 2 weeks ago today. Shipped last tuesday. No word since. No tracking info. I'm the guy who bought one from work for 900 but they would only let me send it to an FFL.
Did Daquanvianjavias Jones and company steal it in transit or am I just being impatient?

According to Uncle Paul, trees are shit cover if you know your target is behind it or vice versa. Your AR will serve you fine in this regard. The Battle Rifle is for when he's hiding behind a tree 500 yards away
>>
>>47387351
>I prefer the 101
Sold out in the places I trust, plus I like the Mlok option. Green is very sexy though, makes it stand out more than average and dull black.

>The Battle Rifle is for when he's hiding behind a tree 500 yards away
Distance and cover is your friend. Plus if it's effective at range, it's effective upclose. The reverse doesn't hold true for 5.56 or the military wouldn't be trying to replace it. Plus, from what I have seen the 762x51 holds better in times of need. Less people rush to buy it, so I'd rather cover my bases then just buy more of the same.

I've been thinking about it for 15mins but I shouldn't. I'm going to pussy out. I have had bad experiences spending a chunk more trying to upgrade guns, instead of just saving the extra bit and buying the full option version. I should just play it cool and wait.

I don't really give a shit about the muzzle device but this is the first I've head of mag well issues. Mine's a NJ model (PTR 300) and seems to work just fine with both steel and aluminum mags

>wide g3 handguard
The thing that every single thread has several people asking about, all given the exact same answer every day? Trust me, the day they come back in stock, it'll be in the OP. As of right now, it's airsoft or nothing. Me and other airsoft anon has confirmed that they will work (with some slight hand-fitting), but neither me nor him have had time or ammo to actually do some mag dumps and see if it melts, although the head shield does look legit. Regardless, this is your best chance for 1/8th the price (assuming you can find a real one anywhere) until atleast next year.

Yeah, after 2hours of research, I made the right call by waiting. If I got the 109, I'd need to buy an LPVO, the mlok handguard and the magpul G3 stock. I can wait until the summer, then if the PTR 102 comes back, I'd just need the LPVO.

Some people (like me) lead a debt free life without credit cards, money orders and cashiers checks are sop and I find this no trouble at all. Other times vendors require po mo, cash or cashier's checks only as payment.

Im planning on just getting my barrels nitrided as well as a few other parts. as for button rifling, I genuinely dont care lmao. I dont even think theres a noticeable difference in barrel life, and if ther even is a difference in accuracy, no matter how good of a barrel you put on a galil, itll never be a precision rifle. although for gas block profile, get the bayonet lug gas block. just for the cool factor.

How to install the extra selector? I thought PTR had a shelf that blocked you from putting in the full fun selectors. I want to get a trigger pack with the markings for show but Im not sure how to install it legally speaking.
