I like that Stand My Heroes despite being kind of retarded is f2p friendly and has romantic routes for each guy with proper progression and ending. The one plus of smartphone otome is that even after becoming a couple you can continue to get stories of how they are in their relationship, which you don't really get in console games if they don't have fandisks. But a lot of these games don't even get that far, or force you to keep grinding for breadcrumbs. Can't keep up with Star Orchestra because of it, guys are nice but it's too tiring.

Also like pic related, it's Phoenix Wright lite, events are laid back but have a lot of effort put into them.

They're copying a popular setting, just like those revenge rebirth stories with the heroine being betrayed by her cheating fiance by her sister/cousin/whichever female relative in ancient china/korea/whatever country. I actually know of something that answers both of these, the Letta games where the main love interest is a vampire boy prostitute (施薬僧のレタ if you actually want to find it, since I doubt the name is listed in english anywhere). You make medicines to complete quests for villagers and unlock events and ero scenes. Warning that it's probably not for everyone, off the top of my head you have to make the vampire boy whore himself out to a man to unlock one of the events, vampire boy is a huge yandere, and the other guys only have bad ends. . But I think you can avoid these scenes as long as you don't care about 100%ing it.

Famitsu and Oricon are biased as fuck and will never tell you how well a company/artist is doing. They will rank like shit because of the lack of information. It's not a surprise that devs and publishers trash their ranking all the time. They favor the ones that are affiliated to them and base their top choices using the only information they have in hand. Unironically, you can have a better idea of how good something is based on the reviews left by people on the sites they get their stuff. I started playing Rune factory 5. While the graphics are kinda bland and there's weird performance issues, I still find the core gameplay loop addictive enough to look past the jank.

I'd been indecisive for a while on whether to play it as an otome game or BL game but in the end I settled on playing it as a BL game for the novelty factor.

I hate gacha games. It's impossible to tell a good story through that medium because it's always going to NEED to be watered down in some way to appeal to the lowest common denominator, and I can NEVER enjoy these games without understanding that everything I'm seeing or doing is just a ploy to make me wring my wallet out more.

I despise that these things are so popular, but it makes sense, you give people the same rehashed tropes and plotlines and characters they've seen a million times and are already incredibly familiar with (things they don't have to waste any critical thought on!) and you add in gambling mechanics -- bam, winning fucking strategy to raking in coin. All gachamakers and players need to kill themselves.

Yes. I really loved how much of a wreck everything went down on those bad endings especially on the tokuten. I was also hoping MariaCrown would produce another game ever since it's successful love letter to Chou No Doku with Yoshiwara Higanbana, but they've been silent on their end.

They probably tanked their popularity with Yoshiwara's true ending. Years later, and I'm still salty about it. otoh, the bad endings were satisfying and the best thing about it especially the 3P ones.

Actual videogames are expensive to make, so by making something BL only you narrow your audience significantly. Especially when it comes to some thing like SMT. Plus at the end of the day, it's old dudes in charge that probably dislike BL.

I miss playing SMT Online Imagine. Your closest demon allies are linked by fate to (You). There's a private server available I think, and it's a pure grindfest. Most people also consider SMT V gay because of how the story went down. I'm more surprised that P3P's FeMC got a shota love interest in Ken and the conversation between their teammates when this waa brought up was as awkward as you can imagine.

Really? I didn't notice anything particularly gay on my playthrough, aside from my own fujo delusions wanting to make Fionn x MC a thing, but I only did one route so maybe it has to do with that.

It's actually pretty enjoyable with all those lovely SMT references once you get out of the grinding hell stage. You want inflict every status effect pinning down your enemies while your demons/human allies destroy them? You can. Summon your demon allies by kissing your ring? Doable. Tame a powerful demon through tense negotiations, capture their heart, and then only bring them out whenever you're window shopping? Can. Show-off as a male glasses wearing bunny butler while skipping and holding hands with the monstrous Alice or travel the land being princess carried by Cu Chulainn? Why not? Go to the beach dungeon wearing nothing but speedos with your buddy-buds? Been there, done that.

I survived purely as a f2p just by farming mats and p2w peeps focused on their pvp rankings. Guilds are comfy af, and the game forums were very active. We thought it would last forever, but of course normal mmorpgs have a finite lifespan. There's also a gacha SMT, but I think only long time player masochists with deep pockets play that as it's become nothing more than bait for whales.

Once you finish all the routes, you can try looking up /vg/'s smtg thread archives for their SMT V reactions.

Anyway, Yamato's route in Devil Survivor 2 was fun too. It kinda made him crazier in the anime adaptation and it didn't help that Suwabe voiced him. There's also something about his connection with Alcor voiced by Sakurai, but it's better to play the game because of how much they squeezed game contents into 13 episodes. They have a good voice cast, memorable OP/ED, but it got ruined through cutting off contents.
