Where can I watch Japanese TV streams for free?Help, I'm poor btw
Any lesser known ghost movies like Ring or Juon? Preferably (but not necessarly) from 90s or 2000s. I have seen most of obvious ones.
>>38175249Joyuurei (1996, aka Don't Look Up)Ring TV version (1995, on Youtube)Pray (2005)Death Train (2004)

>>38175090Still waiting for opinions on this
>>38175407Form your own opinion.
>>38176298Yamada really seems to enjoy experimenting with different kinds of filming concepts these days, more than basic movies. Also looks more like Japanese Jesus every time I see him. Want to check this omnibus out
>>38176298I still can't believe what happened to his arm
>>38176298Yamada could have been the GOAT actor if he wasn’t a manlet
>>38179089He should use elevator shoes.
>>38176692I follow directors and screenplay writers more than actors, was he on anything worth watching in the recent years?
>>38179711Well, I also mean that he has been branching out into directing and producing. For example, he made one of 3 movies in the omnibus flick Zokki (2021) along with Naoto Takenaka and Takumi Saitohhttps://www.imdb.com/title/tt14444620/He also won the Ikemental series of Documental on Amazon Prime, and was in a cool series called Takayuki Yamada's Tokyo Akabane (2015), which is like a pseudo-documentary of him hanging out in that area, from the same director as Kinnikuman: The Lost Legend https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4333964/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_32Also was the main character in Naked Director on Netflix, too.Interesting point I found about Tetsuaki Matsue, the director of the Akabane and Kinnikuman pseudo-documentary series, here is a video of him getting attacked on stage at an Ikebukuro greeting event by the main actor from a previous movie, for heavily power harassing them during filming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3O4oeP6dlM
>>38179411Should’ve done that 17 years ago, it’s too late now
>>38180123Very interesting, didn't know he was directing now. I like mockumentaries so Takayuki Yamada's Tokyo Akabane is for me.
>>38175016It's amazing how Twitter still tries to cancel him (a few days ago) and he's still coming out unscathed.
>>38179411He already does
>>38176147 I just wanted to make sure it’s good before I waste my time watching something without subs and it ends up being bad. I would watch something raw if it’s good and no one is subbing it
I think Haru's character has amnesia and her friends covered up a crime for her sake.
>>38185781Was ep 1 good? Worth watching?
>>38175407I don't think anybody here is going to be watching this. This season looks kinda bad so I'll probably pick something at random.
>>38184074Stop watching with subs. Start learning Japanese.
excited just for yoshitaka yuriko https://www.nhk.or.jp/dramatopics-blog/8000/459619.html but>female activistswere there really such people in the taisho era?
>>38187617Ito Noe was one of a kind back in the pre-war era. I wonder if they're gonna adapt her brutal death though.
>>38187617>EitaI will watch
>>38187673I just read her wiki page, wow I wonder too. Besides her death, her life was really interesting
>>38180123>Interesting point I found about Tetsuaki Matsue, the director of the Akabane and Kinnikuman pseudo-documentary series, here is a video of him getting attacked on stage at an Ikebukuro greeting event by the main actor from a previous movie, for heavily power harassing them during filmingWhew. Him being this calm and collected despite having his donger exposed to all is amazing.
>>38175090What the fuck is this?
>>38187345Yes, the first episode is good.
hey /jp/,im looking for a video file for a japanese movie I saw on a delta flight maybe 5 or 6 years ago. It's this movie: https://asianwiki.com/25_Nijyu-GoIm trying to find a version of it with english subtitles, as the one I saw on the plane had them. Do any of you guys happen to know where I could find it?
Will Toyoda make a high profile movie again?
>>38188535Toyoda's latest film『戦慄せしめよ』will debut in 2 weeks.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fks1zRyGpC8Seems like it's a musical film with no dialogues. Loved the musical performances he directed in his documentary Planetist so I'm personally looking forward to this especially because it looks like it got similar aesthetics to his Resurrection Trilogy.I think he's creating smaller and more experimental films due to the restrictions of the COVID situation in Japan. This film was shot in December 2020.
>>38188466I couldn't find it with English subs, only raws.
>>38192122>read the synopsis >sounds like a boring, poorly-written story with a tired theme and full of ham actingI will now watch it despite everything for Hamabe Minami
>>38192343That's the spirit.
>>38185781I'm on the fence here. I dislike Haru's """acting""" but the story sounds interesting.
>>38192909>Look it up>It's by the mangaka who made 7 Seeds Might actually be good
>>38192973Golden time dramas are almost always boring, I have my doubts about this one.
What happened to all the corny but comfy romance shows we had in the 90's? Is there anything recent similar to Last Christmas, Love Generation, Tokyo Love Story etc?
>>38193533You can't replicate the charm of the 90's romance dramas, it's impossible. There's some good late Heisei romance dramas but none of them can beat the charm of the 90's.
>>38194188Was it good? I want to watch it because of Nao
>>38194347I liked it. It's not for everyone, and it will make you cringe (a lot). The final scene somewhat retroactively slightly changes the flavour of the whole movie, making it less cringy (and more interesting, in my opinion), but also sadder.I didn't know the main actress but if you like her that may be a plus, the movie is centred on the guy but she's in most of the scenes.
>>38175249>>38175288>>38175330Amazing lists. I can addJu-Rei the Uncanny (2004)Pulse (2001)Retribution (2006)
Any movies about tsunamis?
>>38195122If you're looking for those actiony Hollywood kinds of big waves then I don't think there is. Most of them are about the aftermath of the disasters. Fukushima 50 was a fine movie but I'm pretty sure it's not what you're looking for.
>>38196538This should have never existed, fuck Fuji TV.
>>38170414I liked that one a lot and wished the dokkiri was longer. I thought Saito would lash out at Ota for his supposed scandal but surprisingly he was very calm and collected, even told him to apologize to his wife and prioritize his kids. Would love to see other geinins do the exact same dokkiri with the affair scandal theme.
>>38196537>Kaiji at home:
watch this! watch this! watch this!
>>38197568I read the synopsis last night and didn’t like what I read. Is there something special besides Kikuchi Momoko?
>>38197821its the best show I've ever seen in my life
>>38175090highschool for ikemen only...
>>38175090shiraishi sei and that's about it
>>38200542How’s the drama? Thought about watching it but chose Hamabe’s drama instead
https://nyaa.si/view/1478392 shufu maison is now finished
>>38201922The characters (especially Kousei Yuki) were unique but overall the story was very boring. A drama made for teenage girls, not even adult fujos.
It was decent I guess
>>38202511First Love is one of Miike's most easy movies to follow. One thing I love about it is Miike's darkly hilarious way of slowly unfolding an absolute clusterfuck of a situation of epic proportions just waiting to explode, and it delivers.
>>38202768Somehow I thought that First Love was similar to Tarantino movies
>>38202793Miike has been doing that type of movies just as long as Tarantino and iirc, Tarantino was inspired by Miike's movies. But to your point, it was kinda Tarantino-esque and Coens-esque but ultimately it's own thing. Honestly one of the best movies that year.
>>38200951Not him, but her drama is decent. The story is weird but entertaining. The 2nd episode ended in a funny way.
>>38203123I'm loving Yasuda Ken's role. A person who doesn't utter a word but makes you laugh with his hilarious facial expressions. The interplay between him and Shiraishi is funny.
>>38206448Bad remake even if the story was different from the Heisei version. Suzuki Honami as Akana Rika is too iconic, no one can compete with her as Akana so Ishibashi Shizuka felt so wrong acting as her. Also the guy doing Kanchi's role was awkward, it's an insult to Oda Yuji from the Heisei version. I pushed through to the end but the casting overall just felt so wrong to me and the story felt thin and weak. The Heisei version also had many flaws that stand out when you watch it now, but this Reiwa version makes you realize that Tokyo Love Story is a product of its time and shouldn't be remade at all or else it will lose all the charms it had.
>>38204726Summer Uika is my tarentofu
>>38200951it was lotta fun, the budget seems high so it doesn't abuse filters, would recommend it
The new Abe Hiroshi drama started today
I always ask this every year. So what was the Kimetsu no Yaiba(or most talked) Jdrama of last year?I'm just looking for recs. Not really into jdramas Also thanks for the last year rec "Hajimete Koi wo Shita Hi ni Yomu Hanashi" fun show but too yumedream for me
>>38210234Dragon Zakura 2 was the most popular and trending drama last year.
>>38210418I still haven't watched it yet, I regret not watching it while it was airing. Now I find it hard to bring myself to watch it after knowing many elements spoilers especially Gakkii.
>>38208574For me, it's Hikorohii.
>>38210008It was boring. That time slot's dramas are simply ain't good.
>>38210234>I'm just looking for recs. Not really into jdramas Saiai
>>38210234Tengoku to Jigoku: Psychona Futari
What crime/police/yakuza dramas/movies would you guys recommend? I'm generally new to dramas and haven't seen much from the genre. I like the Yakuza games and recently watched My Name (Korean drama) and I'm craving for similar things to watch.Bonus for being filmed in 24 fps instead of 30 (like many TV dramas seem to be) and if it's on Netflix/Prime or was released on BD in Europe (in the case of movies).

>>38197568Thanks, I hated it
It's my favorite movie of all time. Anything similar to it?
>>38221555Great taste, one of Toyoda's best movies and it's based on a masterpiece manga Matsumoto Taiyou.Try this movie:Kids Return (1996) by Kitano TakeshiIt has similar vibes (especially to the original Aoi Haru manga which was different a bit from Toyoda's adaptation).
>>38221555Ping Pong the movieHolyland tv showIkebukuro West Gate ParkBut I think there's nothing really the same as it.
>>38221555If you want films that deal with teens, young adults and adolescence>Solanin (2010)>14 no Yoru (2016)>Shino Cannot Say Her Own Name (2018)Nothing about delinquents though with the same atmosphere as Blue Spring. That film is just so unique.
>>38218603Poor Yamauchi is getting bullied again
>>38213802Finished Saiai last night and I gotta say it was one compelling drama that had my absolute undivided attention from start to finish.
>>38187545Easier said than done, Inoki-San
>>38194188is this anywhere else besides avistaz?
>>38224017You can stream it online I guess
>>38210418Do I need to watch the first season before watching this?
>>38224700no, there are a few cameos and references from season 1 for nostagiafags and that's about it
>>38224700No, it's essentially a new series with completely different approach to its story and direction. Gets messy near the end but still enjoyable overall.
>>38224700I don’t see a reason for not watching it first. Paravi even streamed it for Generation Z Japs who were not born yet or were still too young to watch it in 2005 like you so you should definitely watch it too. It’s genuinely a good drama, anyone who’s interested in Japanese dramas must watch it honestly.
>>38225055Honestly, S1 didn't age well and I watched it back in the day. It feels like an average by the numbers manga adaptation despite the amazing cast. Well, at least it had a romance subplot which S2 lacked, if you're into that I guess.
>>38225120Dramas don't age, they're products of their time. You do though, you grow out of them. If it was good back then, which it was, then it's good today. Meanwhile your taste changes overtime.
>>38225236I guess, it was new to me when I first watched it but it's nothing special now. But this doesn't mean that there aren't better shows that are still similar to S1 of Dragon Zakura, as they're actually still enjoyable today.
>>38220798what didn't you like about it?
>>38225714First strike is the fact that it's a Hello Project idols drama, the idols aren't cute. Then the story is extremely boring. Not just boring, I didn't understand what the story is about. I couldn't relate to the main characters.
>>38225954did you watch it with subs?
>>38225967Don’t need subs.
I need a new terrace house
>>38226389It will never happen
>>38226428I know, I don't even want a new one, I couldn't finish the second show. I just want a new one that feels as good as the first one. I have the movie saved until I can't resist anymore.
>>38214349God, this drama’s last few episodes sucked balls. A shame because it was very good until it went downhill halfway.
How many of you are JOP or EOP?
>>38226811It's pretty obvious the large majority of thread regulars here know Japanese already, some even living there and just watch TV regularly while posting here in real time. I feel like this is a shock to the newfags that come in thinking it's like other fandoms on this site but you have to understand how niche of an interest this is.Japan had no interest in selling their shows to the west, especially streaming rights as they feel like it's worth a lot more than something reasonable. It's why official streams never caught on and some services even went defunct. This however doesn't mean that dorama fans stopped watching the shows.Japanese movies are always popular with normies but those aren't really the focus of this thread. Not to mention there are better places for those types of discussion as what people like to discuss revolves around the craft of film, which is why it attracts normalfags.
>>38226351clearly you do
I want to see the next episode already.
THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH MANGA ADAPTATIONS. FUCK YOU KITANO, YOU OLD FUCK.

>>38228392Even if the next episode will have stuff like this?>>38228015The only thing I know about KR is that their actors become dorama actors.
>>38227142Don’t know what made you think that but I don’t. I simply disliked it, that’s all,
>>38226389What happened to this show?
>>38227963Most of manga adaptations are drizzling shit
>>38227736The manga was a good read
>>38228131It’s not my only reason but it’s a hell of an incentive

>>38232637From her new drama, right? How was it?
>>38226389>>38226428watch "Single's Inferno"
>>38221555The closest in terms of atmosphere would probably be the rest of Toyoda's work, 9 Souls in particular or Pornostar. But from a similar ballpark, on top of what other anons have rec'd try Sion Sono's Himizu, Tetsuya Nakashima's The World of Kanako and Shunji Iwai's All About Lily Chou-Chou.
>>38232637How was it? Still waiting for subs
>>38234878Hamabe was cute but the content of the drama is very thin, even if it's only the first episode (the next episodes will probably follow the same thing), it was just too shallow. It's like a Mito Komon medical drama that ends with Hamabe making diagnosis. Also she's someone with amnesia but no medical knowledge, right? She's too young for that. If she was at least in her 30s, the setting would be more convincing.
>>38230534I''s Yappari Oishii Keigi and the new one, Shimobeethe rest are kinda meh
https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/9ca22220b6b6c900b39c96b05580aeb5434f5378>Ayase Haruka to star in Fuji TV spring Getsuku drama 'Motokare no Igonjou' based on novel by Shinkawa Hotate which won the grand prize in last year's 19th "Kono Mystery ga Sugoi!" >>38229065a cast member killed herself after getting hate online for one scene in the show. Then it came to light that everything in the show was scripted (if that wasn't obvious already) so the show was even more responsible for what happened. Apparently she had asked to leave the show a couple of times before the incident but her management forced her to stay.

>>38236715Hmmmm, sounds interesting on paper. It being an adaptation of an award-winning novel makes me have high hopes.
>>38230708This drama is very very good.
>>38239544Since it was revealed that Morishita Yoshiko was the writer I was pretty interested in it and it delivered as I expected. The drama had an impact on me personally. I used to look down on the idolniggers who plague the catalog but after watching this drama I have come to think that their hobby might not be so bad. >>38249534I thought they were the same person back then.
Anyone watching Tetsu Ota Michiko? I watched the first episode, but to be honest I just feel like most of these slice of life travel and appreciate the sights and food shows just feel played out and formulaic, and the "comfiness" just feels really manufactured and inane now. Haven't really watched anything of Tina's before, but I knew of her from the one Tofubeats song.https://youtu.be/MJqAhbhffpU
>>38249790It's like a Kodoku no Gourmet railroad version. There is an introduction to station lunches, and you can see the unadorned vicinity of the station. This drama is TV Tokyo going back to their roots of comfy late-night shows that are often revolve around traveling and food and I love it tbqh. The lead actress is a cutie so that's a plus.

Any1 here know where I can find the films of Minoru Kawasaki? There's a few on Amazon but not a lot. Pardon me for making this a thread on it's own before realizing I can just post it here.
>>38284797He made shitloads of films but unfortunately only 10 are on avistaz.
>>38284419I've never stumbled upon any Taisho period dramas before but seen many movies Taisho movies.
>>38269058Kuro-chan's pillow is good.
>>38279535The anime had yuri/GL undertones/moments. It was a surreal comedy show with the Oshii wackiness he's known for so I think this movie will have some of that too since the infirmary sensei is in the movie.
>>38285184Was The Journalist good?
>>38285381It's basically a dramatization of the Moritomo Gakuen scandal, they even brought someone who sounded like Abe Shinzo as the PM. The main cast aside, the supporting cast is full of actors who suit their roles perfectly, something you rarely see today (reminded me of Hanzawa Naoki). The Suzuki Kazuya parts played by Yoshioka Hidetaka was the best and most engrossing. It was very realistic, which honestly made it less interesting in the second half and I was disappointed when it didn't have a poetic justice ending.
>>38282216movies about supermarkets i meansuch a great director. rip.
>>38285647>movies about supermarkets i meanStar Reformer (2006) then.>such a great director. rip.Indeed. His works are charming, funny, sometimes very meta and surreal. Sadly he died in the 90's amid a very suspect "suicide", believed by many to have been a yakuza hit after he satirized them in a film.
>>38285647Tangential supermarket movies:One Million Yen Girl (2008) has Yu Aoi working at supermarkets, among other places.Adrift in Tokyo has those quirky asides among the supermarket staff. No One's Ark (2003) has salespeople stationed outside supermarkets here and there.Hibana (2016) ((TV show)) has a manzai duo do a paito dressed as cows outside a supermarket.
>>38192820Haru is honestly bad, but the story slowly is becoming more interesting though.
>>38285890>metathat's a key word to his work. i think koki mitani is very influenced by him>>38286604thanks

>>38291725Very nice recs, thanks!
I did really enjoy Quartet, any other show like it?
>>38286604Is it really worth it? I watched 4 minutes of the first episode and gave up after Haru's and Sayuringo's middle school drama club performance.
>>38292148Watch the other dramas that were written by Quartet's screenplay writer Sakamoto Yuji if you liked his style.
>>38292082Me on the right
what did y'all niggas think about Scams(2019)?
>>38295424It wasn't that good. I thought the characters, the events and the terminologies were familiar, turns out it's based on the manga Gangoose which was an adaptation of a nonfic novel. The manga carefully reflected the author's coverage of poverty and other issues, whereas the drama's direction was a bit on the nose. If you're gonna adapt such a story, you should go all the way or just don't do it half-heartedly. The direction was killing the script.
>>38296074I like the premise but after a few episodes it got stale

>>38296639She is the law.
>>38296670That was years ago, I think she got a clue and put down the bottle.
>>38296705Nah, she's still bloated and lacks any drive to improve or pursue her career. Probably waiting for a nice ikemen to propose and be done with it all, a shame if you ask me. Again, no offense.
>>38296737>Probably waiting for a nice ikemen to propose and be done with it allEmi Takei but hers is raw sex with a rich older man.
>>38296695Well I dunno if she was forced to do it by TBS or it was her stubbornness but watching it, it made me uncomfortable personally. They say she didn't test positive but you never know. The old lady should rest.
