What are the chances of Sayonara wo Oshiete getting licensed?
>>
>>25150720
If you translate it, do a good job on the translation, and are willing to sell the rights to said translation cheap, I'm sure you can convince MG or JAST to pick it up.
>>
>>25148759
I'd be impressed with those sol updates if those numbers hadn't been out of date for over a month.
>>
>>25150720
Maybe the DMM version can. I played the old one without a backlog and nearly killed myself. But its still the only 10/10 eroge i played to this day.

I absolutely love it.
>>
>>25150899
Lol, that ain't happening. It's just one of the few games I'd still like to read.

>I just finished and had the idea of trying my hand at a translation, but I don't know where to even begin.
I imagine dealing with the technical aspects is one of the biggest hurdles in these projects. I don't know much about it, unfortunately, but SayoOshi is a VisualArts game, and the updated version that you can buy as a download runs on SiglusEngine. That's the same as Angel Beats, Summer Pockets, and the various Toneworks games, so if you tried asking people from Alka or Tsurezure they might be able to help you.
>>
>>25154453
>and had the idea of trying my hand at a translation
What possesses people to think this way?
If I knew Japanese I'd just read more stuff instead of translating.
>>
>>25154930
It's a good way to strengthen your understanding of english and japanese given that you must actively use both.
>>
>>25154976
>strengthen your understanding of english and japanese
I guess that explains why so many fan made translations are terrible.
>>
>>25154930
Sometimes if you like something, you want other people to be able to enjoy it too.
>>
>>25155005
Yeah because their japanese is fucking shit and they didn't realize just how bad it was and they decided to pick a title that was either too complex or too long for them to take the time to properly do and learn from.

But the more you do the more you learn and the better you get at it. If anyone going to get into fan-translating here's some advice. Your first release is probably going to suck. Quite a bit actually. So pick something small and simple so that you can always go back and redo the translation to a better quality once you've gotten better through all this practice. Once you get started on your second fan-translated title, again pick something small and simple. Once you finish and release it, compare the feedback from it to your first fan-translations and if you haven't gotten notably better you should stop translating and work on your fundamentals. If it has gotten better, do a slightly longer or slightly more complex title.

If you're looking for a nukige series to start translating I'd recommend the Prisoner Of Tentacle Hell series. The titles are extremely short and are very simple tentacle fodder but they do have a small handful of complex lines or references which should help sharpen you up a bit. Not to mention the developer has published the sister series on mangagamer, so if you do a good job with your translation you could potentially sell them to Mangagamer which can enable you to flex to an official translator position.

>>
>>25154635
Thanks for the helpful reply. I'll still think about it some more and try translating the prologue and the common route on my own first, at the very least, before bothering anyone else with something that could end up being nothing but a waste of time.
>>25154930
As some other anon implied, it makes for good writing practice and it's not too mentally taxing (or at least not as mentally taxing as writing in itself tends to be). As for why SayoOshi out of all works, mostly because it'd translate well; I'd never wish upon my most hated foes the hellish task of translating shit like SakuUta or Muramasa, but there are certain works that while read you can picture being written in another language and this one in particular didn't seem so annoying as to not even contemplate, or toy with said idea.

It is, but perhaps at some point they realized his 'contributions' weren't worth waiting for. I can't think of any other case where that has happened, have you?
>>
>>25162870
Yeah the game has to come out eventually. Not even defending him at all, just pointing out that him being slow and Sekai shipping an unfinished game are 2 separate issues.
>>
>>25154976
No it isn't. I fucking hate you fags. If your ability in both languages is at a point where it needs to be "strengthened", then you have no business translating anything.
>>
>>25163003
Quit your bitching you giant baby, someone fucking up a 45 minute title with a terrible translation who then realizes they have no business translating is not a problem. The only people who know for sure that they can translate something are people who are so heads and shoulders above the common japanese speaker that their proficiency is clear as day. Or the people who try to translate something and realize they do actually know enough or that they don't know enough.

There's also the complexity of the title itself. Something like nekopara, pretty fucking easy due to it using extremely common words for the most part. Translating something like Subahibi, much harder due to the vocabulary not commonly used in any form of modern media or day to day life. Now that Japanese developers are going hands on with personally publishing titles themselves you should expect to see a large drop in 'official' translation quality to the point that fan-translators and official translators are pretty much the same thing in the eye of the public.

The people that believe they know enough are always deluding themselves. Ixrec would later admit that he shouldn't have translated Cross Channel so early, but it didn't stop him from fucking up on every thing he did after that. Complexity is irrelevant when you're as incompetent as the average visual novel translator, and the only difference between official and fan translations has always been that official translators get paid for their trash.
>>
>>25162957
The problem isn't that he's slow. Have you seen Chrono Clock? The game's translation is a fucking nightmare and it's definitely because of the editor.

I bet you can probably start learning Japanese today and be able to read the majority of the VNs on this list with reasonable comprehension by the time most of them even get released. I swear this list has been at least 50% the same for 3 years.
>>
>>25166686
I started learning Japanese about a year and a half ago and I still don't understand shit. The will to grind vocabulary and consume native content every single day evaporates quickly
>>
>>25166802
Why, did you get memed into not studying kanji and end up having a hard time memorizing vocab or do you just hate reading moege garbage to add to your mining deck?
>>
>>25166686
The amount of untranslated VNs I want to read is too low to justify it, and none of them would be particularly easy to read. I'd rather stab my eyes out than read a moege.
>>
>>25166976
For reference, out of all the VNs on OP's list, there are less than 10 that interest me, though not necessarily enough for me to actually read them all.
>>
>>25166897
Most of the untranslated stuff that drove me to start learning got translated. I got maybe a few hundred words into the Anki beginner deck and eventually got to a point where nothing was sticking anymore and I'd been clicking again on the same 3 or 4 dozen words for a month. The drive to learn more almost completely evaporated after a while. Most of the native material I could find was too far above my level to learn from. The only exception was H manga, but knowing what 中出しの喜び is doesn't help that much with most other content.
>>
>>25167029
I'd learn Japanese just to read Propeller's NEVER EVER VNs like Evolimit and the Ayakashibito fandisc/sequel to start with. Only a fraction of the medium ever makes it west, so I'm sure there'd be something of interest to be found.
>>
I'm not too surprised since we just got updates, but I guess MG didn't announce their secret projects during the weekend Otakon was supposed to happen. The next convention related time is mid-November for Anime NYC though I personally think MG will reveal their announcements sooner. As for when, who knows? Probably at the same week one of their more important titles goes on preorder. If they correlate the announcement period to one of their titles, my guess would be Musicus or Rance 01. Both have a good chance of coming out this year.
>>
>>25167108
I don't know, man. I think I'm relatively familiar with the games that are supposed to be good, and out of those there isn't much I'd care about even it got translated. There's stuff there, which is why I continue keeping up with translations, but it's not enough to justify the work (and there isn't any other Japanese media I care about either). I tried some years back, back when I was more into it and less disillusioned.
>>
>>25167338
Part of it, I think, is reading certain games that I was looking forward to quite a bit, and them not being as good as I was expecting them to be (e.g. Dies Irae and Subahibi). They weren't bad of course, but in hindsight my expectations were too high due to the games being overhyped -- and hype is one of the few things you can look to to see which games are supposedly worthwhile. I guess it caused me to reevaluate my expectations and look at the situation more realistically. If I'd learned Japanese to read one of those games I would be very unhappy about it. Or maybe I'd try to justify it to myself by pretending they were masterpieces, lol.
>>

If nothing else, Jeanne probably releasing before Sona-nyl is funny. MG announced that title way too soon. Hell, Rance Quest has a decent chance of releasing before Sona-nyl, and Sona-nyl was announced the year Rance VI was announced.

I haven't played it, but isn't Nyan Cafe still in HD? I know for sure Kusarihime isn't. In any case, plotge don't sell consistently well. Not that I think Jeanne will sell well at all, but it at least works as low tier FGO bait to get a few extra sales from some saps.

>Seiran Island is a paradise where perverted sex is permitted by law. The transfer student Junnosuke is a proud virgin that steadfastly values chastity. He believes that there should be no sex without love, counter to the rules imposed on the island residents. Nukitashi is basically a comedic parody of nukige that's riddled with Japanese pop culture references to start off with. As you go further along in the story, it starts playing things a bit more seriously, and essentially switches to an odd balance of action-comedy, where it switches rapidfire between silly gags and moments it plays dead serious (I think an analogy would be something like Gintama, maybe). It's a very, very popular game that won a lot of awards in Japan.

The one thing it ISN'T is a nukige.

>If I read this post with no prior knowledge I'd already think the translation would be cancer but knowing who is editing makes it a guarantee.
The translation is guaranteed to be a disaster. Early on we're talking a pop culture reference or typical nukige scenario joke at least once every ten lines, although it does calm down a bit later. It's a brutally hard translation in the best of circumstances. With the guy who gave us 'douzo lad' at the helm, it's going to be an absolute shitshow. I'm so excited, it's a day 1 buy for me just to experience how bad it is.
>>
>>25184294
Sona-nyl isn't exactly a literally-who liar-soft game, though. It's rated 80 on EGS and has a decent number of ratings. It's not as popular as Kusarahime, Forest or Inganock in Japan, but still, keep in mind that popularity in Japan won't matter for translated VNs. Like, The lesbo ghost game sells waaaaaay more than the other liar-soft VNs here, but that's not the case in Japan. I think momentum is the big thing and that isn't going to carry over in translations. Kusarahime or Forest had their popularity and got their momentum in Japan and became household names. Different translated titles become household names based on a different momentum. Is there any real reason to think Kusarahime would sell respectably if translated and Sona-nyl wouldn't, just cus the former is more household in Japan?
>>
>>25184532
The pop culture references would probably fly over my head. But it does sound like a cool title.
>>
>>25182209
Yeah, MG has a clear bias for Overdrive titles. I can see MG saving their secret project announcements to correspond with Musicus's preorder announcement just to raise the sales of Musicus. That said, I think Rance 01/02 bundle's going to release before it, unless the post beta debug is unreasonably long for 02.

>>25184632
Honestly, Sona-nyl is more likely to do well in the West than Kusarihime, mostly because otomefags are starved for content, and Sona-nyl at least has some appeal for that audience. I do agree that there isn't that strong of a correlation between what's popular in Japan and what's popular overseas. Sure, Alicesoft, Muv Luv, and Key titles are popular enough in both markets, but Subahibi undersold here (with the assistance of a Kickstarter) and I'm pretty sure Nekopara is way more popular in the West than in Japan. Japan and the West are ultimately different markets.
>>
>>25187003
Also Sona-nyl is part of a "series" that a decent number of people are already familiar with. The game might not sell well but it's at least guaranteed not to be a colossal flop.
>>
>>25185554
A large portion are references to other eroge, although the majority of them are untranslated ones. Also there is no need to worry, the translator/editor will probably just change them to "bazinga" or something.

Assuming that it's a 3rd eye title, that narrows it down to Gensou no Idea or maybe Shinigami no Testament. Railore is too new for that hint to have applied to it, and Bloody Rondo isn't in HD. If MG really wanted to release Bloody Rondo, they could do it, but I doubt that's the case.

My take on that is him being human and them being engineered to like and obey humans, though that has been weakened over many generations
>>

Unfortunately this is true. But I always notice when fanbases get bigger they become worse over time. Then again that's most likely because annoying people tend to be Sociopathic in nature.

Every fanbase has its shit, but that shit simply becomes more obvious the bigger the fanbase gets. If they're going to try so hard to pretend they didn't censor the title until someone specifically shows a comparison to prove it was censored, it's not worth even bothering with it. So I guess you're technically correct anon.

They didn't and no one has ever even claimed that they did. And regarding the issue at hand, the only thing that was done was that the singular CG was removed so it shows a black screen -- all of the text, etc. is still there.
>>
>>25242277
It's not a single CG though. It's that the publishers say they didn't change anything but they actually did and only acknowledge it when people post hard evidence of it and then they try to pretend that it's "no big deal" that they removed or changed something for political reasons.

yes? No? I mean it's a pretty big fucking deal when a title that is 75% porn has mosaics and that it's a known fact that the artist for said title does extremely good work on genitals due to his/her previous titles being released uncensored by a different publisher. It's not like ShiraVN's previous titles where only 10-15% of it is adult content so mosaics being there isn't a big deal because the porn isn't the entire point of the title, which the same cannot be said for Eden's Ritter because it's literally all about the porn.
