Anyone give those Aniplex all ages kuosge a try? Any good? How are the translations?
>>24470349>>Miagete Goran, Yozora no Hoshi O: Fine DaysOk this looks pretty cute. But it also says it's a fan disc. And the original title was apparently released back in 2017 under the name A Sky Full of Stars. That localized title actually sounds rather familiar. And now I remember why I stopped caring about it >17+Every other release of the title is 18+. But Moenovel's is 17+. What did they even do to it to make 17+? Does it just fade to black and completely jump over the ero scenes and all its related text and dialogue? Or did they write some fanfiction to fill in the blanks?

>>24470993Speaking of NN has anyone confirmed if they are apart of Sekai at all? I would kind of like to pick up some of their stuff.
>>24471167It's by Phoenixx if I remember right.
>>24470842From what I know, Konosora was the only one of their games they did a massive rewrite for. Now they seem to keep the dialogue close to the Japanese version even keeping the sexual jokes, and only removes and make changes around h-scenes. Alka did say they were thinking about doing a restoration patch for Miagete Goran so you can wait for that, I'm hoping they will do a restoration patch for the Konosora FD.Also, I want to point out that Moe Noval last few games outside of Konosora FD and Miagete Goran are new games that came out in the west first as 17+, but was released later as R18 games with h-scenes in JP
>>24471246You do now thats a shit post right?
>>24471278>came out in the west first as 17+, but was released later as R18 games with h-scenes in JPThat's interesting.
>>24471013Makes sense that they might not be able to hit the same release date they had before they added the fan disc.
>>24471598I do respect Nekonyan for working on FD's for every game they bring over.
>>24470819Both are decent. Translations are good but did not go through proper QC, there are typos and punctuation errors here and there.
>>24471246officially it's unknown, unofficially there's good reason to believe they're a part of Sekai due to them sharing licenses and translations. No other publishing company has ever shared a completely finished translation that happens to be from a series which has sold extremely well with a direct competitor. Especially Sekai Project which has previously sat on a finished translation for years, to the point they lost the distribution license and still continued to sit on it.
Is Ixrec the greatest fan translator of all time?
>>24475336him and takajun share a spot for most important eroge translator, but neither were good translators
>>24473994>sharing licenses and translationsYou do know that if Sekai loses a license they don't keep the translation >they lost the distribution license and still continued to sit on it.How does what you said make any sense?
>>24475381If I made a translation for a project and a publisher buys my translation, they now own the translation. Regardless of if they have the rights to the title or not they still have the rights to my translation. They might not have the legal rights to release/sell that translation but they do own the rights to the translation itself so they can sell it to another company or use it themselves if they acquire distribution of the IP it's associated with.To make it easier to understand since you seem to have no idea what the fuck you're talking about. If I draw a picture of mickey mouse, I own that mickey mouse picture. I might not have the rights to sell that picture of mickey mouse en masse because I don't own the rights to the character, but Disney (the owner to the mickey mouse IP) CANNOT do anything with my art despite them owning the IP because they don't own the picture, I do. I can also sell the rights to use my artwork in an official capacity to another company, but that company still needs permission from disney to display/sell my artwork due to their ownership of the Mickey mouse IP.
>>24475336He was a very bad translator.
>>24475542We know all that bullshit because of what happened with Teaching Feelings.
>>24475633It all depends on how the licensing goes. It could've been written that the translation lapses back to the original owner in the event the publisher loses distribution rights to the associated title. For example a game company might have sole exclusive publishing rights for a particular title (EA and star wars games for example) for say, 5 years. But if the company goes bankrupt after 2 years then all the rights associated with the franchise are returned to the original owner so there's no 3 years of dead time due to a dead company maintaining exclusive publishing rights. It's most commonly seen with movie companies where they agree to make a movie using a specific IP every X amount of years or the rights revert back to the original owners. Best example I can give in recent memory is the DOOM series where universal? or whoever the fuck it is has to make a movie every certain amount of years in order to keep exclusive publishing rights to DOOM movies.
>>24475542>IfStop reading right there don't give a fuck about your blog
>>24473994lol. This is the most bonkers conspiracy theory I've heard. Sekai lost the license, Nekonyan picked it up. They've probably done the same thing to laplacian from sol press, does that make Nekonyan part of sol press?
>>24475951His logic makes it seems like MG is also part of SP since the both have Purple Soft games
>>24475951He's not talking about the license, he's talking about the translation that was owned by Sekai Project.
>>24476012It all makes sense now, Sekai is the unified eroge front trying to ensure it never becomes popular in the west. Sending their freelancers to sabotage other companies releases and scout their licenses. I can see it all!/s just in fucking case.
>>24476037Maybe nekonyan bought it off them, or maybe they never actually owned the translation to begin with. There are plenty of logical explanations that don't stray into "nekonyan is a shadow company of Sekai project so I won't support them"
>>24475951What about the part where all of Nekonyan's staff are ex-Sekai employees?
>>24476128This entire industry is freelance basically dude, a bunch of Nekonyan employees are Mangagamer and Sol press and Frontwing as well. There's literally no point to that argument.
>>24476128That's not evidence of anything. Employees breaking off from a company to start their own is common.
>>24475951Do you know anything of Sekai Project's history? I'm assuming not because you'd have known that they intentionally licensed out titles they never had any intention of ever releasing specifically to prevent other VN publishing companies from acquiring that license. You're telling me a company that intentionally spent money just to prevent other companies from acquiring titles would willingly sell a completed translation of a high selling IP to a direct competitor? You're fucking delusional. They'd be shooting themselves in the foot>>24476012The more accurate example would be Mangagamer selling a completely finished Rance 10 translation to Sekai Project so that sekai project can release Rance 10 without needing to make their own translation after having stolen the rights to Rance 10 from MangaGamer because MG was "taking too long" and Alicesoft wanted it released faster. It has nothing to do with the developer choosing a different publisher for a title which is an extremely common thing. It's a major competitor directly helping another major competitor in an industry where you don't do that sort of stuff unless you're leaving the market because then you don't care about competitors. (sol press for example)>>24476101Sekai Project owned the translation, the fan-translation team they bought it off of confirmed it themselves that they had signed over all the rights. Companies don't sell finished translations to other companies on titles that they lost the rights to because you're enabling that company to directly compete against your titles
>>24476183> You're fucking delusionalLol pot calling kettle black much. I said there are multiple answers that don't stray into conspiracy theory. If you wanna hear what I've heard, I heard that sekai announced they they had the yuzu licenses before they actually had finalized talks with yuzusoft. So yuzusoft broke off the agreement due to that. So yes, they literally did shoot themselves in the foot if that's true.
>>24476235You're missing the point you fucking retard. It's not about another company having the licenses which I clearly stated is a very common thing, it's about another publisher enabling a direct competitor to better compete against their own titles when historically they've done the exact opposite and have done everything in their power to hinder other companies from competing against them.Purplesoft selling on both Sekai Project and Mangagamers stores makes sense. Different storefronts different audiences, more people know about your products and more sales. Publishing companies are fine with this because you get people from other storefronts to your storefronts which means they're far more likely to stumble upon your other titles and buy those too. No company gains an innate advantage over another and both companies make money. The issue is that Sekai Project is literally going>Hey check out this competing company's store and buy their titles, don't look at our storeIt's like Steam putting Dota 2 on EGS but not on Steam. It's an absolutely horrible business decision that you would not make unless you were extremely good friends with the other company and wanted them to succeed, which they wouldn't want because more people using EGS and not steam means they lose money.Sol Press put their titles on other storefronts because they didn't have a big dedicated storefront of their own and knew they would make more money putting it on other big storefronts rather than keeping it exclusive to their own store. It was a smart business decision to make because they made more money doing this and got more people interested in their other titles as a result. Now with Sol Press leaving the VN scene, it doesn't matter if they enable their ex-competitors because they're no longer competing with them.
>>24476183why does everything have to be a fucking conspiracy for idiots like you?don't ascribe malice when sheer incompetence is not only likely but the stock in trade of vn publishers (hi dere dovac, xev)
>>24476537This goes beyond incompetence. If you do what Sekai Project did you would not have a company at all and the only reason you would ever do such a thing is if you have an extremely good relationship with the other company or if you own both companies.
>>24476426What are you even talking about? Every company has put out titles on other stores thats not their own
>>24476618No other VN publisher has ever sold a translation for one of their titles to another publishing company. Especially in this case where you have a company that did everything in their power to prevent other VN publishing companies competing against their titles by buying up similar titles specifically to prevent other companies from licensing them.Let me make this very simple to understand. Sekai Project loses the publishing rights for Nekopara. Mangagamer acquires the rights for Nekopara. Sekai Project then sells the completed translation of Nekopara 4 to mangagamer so that Mangagamer can quickly release Nekopara 4 on their shop after acquiring the Nekopara license so that Mangagamer doesn't have to translate it themselves and spend 9-18 months working on it and possibly end up with a bad translationNow people go to Mangagamers store instead of Sekai Project's store to buy nekopara 4 and Sekai Project makes less money because their old nekopara customers are going to their competitors stores and buying their other products instead of buying SP products. The smart business thing would be NOT to sell the completed translation to Mangagamer because now Sekai Project still has all those old customers for 9-18 months because there's no reason for them to go over to Mangagamers store and start buying their games.
>>24476767>No other VN publisher has ever sold a translation for one of their titles to another publishing company. No other company has ever been so incompetent that they had too
>>24476801in the 18 months it would've taken their competitor to create and release their own translation, Sekai Project would've made more money from their customer base they kept for an extra 18 months than they would have gotten for selling the translation. The only time you would sell the translation is if A: You're good friends with the other company OR you own the company. Or B: You're leaving the market in the next 18 months so you wouldn't spend that whole 18 months selling products to your customers thus you don't need to worry about competing companies.
>>24476857(I'm not the anon you're arguing with) Do you think it's possible that Sekai had some sort of contractual obligation regarding the translation if they failed to release the game?
>>24476913No fucking way SP would agree to pay for something without having full exclusive rights over it. They might be too dumb to read what they're buying but they're smart enough to make sure that whatever it is they're buying, they have full ownership of it.
>>24476943I mean like, it was part of their contract with Yuzusoft that if they produced a translation but failed to release the game, they would have to do whatever with the translation if requested. I'm just hypothesizing.
>>24476943Your talking about a company that sat on a game that was 100% translated for about 6 years now and ended up losing the rights to it. they are that incompetent
>>24476993Yuzusoft doesn't own the translation, only the distribution rights for an english translation of their title. Sekai Project owned the translation.
>>24477017While I believe that to be true, which game is that?
>>24477048Ordinarily, but I believe such a thing could be modified contractually, could it not? Like how a company can own works that one of their employees produces in their free time because they contractually agreed to it.
>>24477148No they can't fucking own the rights to something a fan-translator made that another company bought.
>>24477166If they signed a contract with Yuzusoft that said they would forfeit ownership any translation produced or acquired for the English release of the game if they failed to meet X criteria, then they would lose it.
>>24476183While I don't agree that there's enough proof to prove Nekonyan is Sekai Project's rebrand, the whole situation is just plain bizzare. My guess is that the owners are just really good friends. I could see Dovac doing something really retarded in a business sense for personal reasons. There are enough differences in the way Nekonyan and Sekai operate (whether or not they use crowdfunding, their relationship with other companies' stores, what games they license) for me to conclude that they are wholy seperate companies.
I thought it was common knowledge around here that NN = Sekai
I hope Hello Lady sells well and NN picks up more non-moege.
>>24477232Common conspiracy maybe.
>>24477197Why are you so obsessed with this? Nekonyan themselves have confirmed they purchased the translation from Sekai Project, they would have never mentioned this if yuzusoft owned the rights to it.
>>24477252Me too. I also hope they stop giving release dates.
>>24477252What are some decent non-moege releases you can envision NekoNyan picking up?
>>24477291They haven't given a release date though, they just said tentative summer release.
>>24477205They both pretend that there's nothing drawn underneath the mosaics or that the assets were lost. Pretty obvious they're the same company.
>>24477252IIRC, Propeller games flopped hard and Dies Irae only did well on Kickstarter while doing mediocre on Steam. Hilariously, Mangagamer ended up selling the best version of Dies Irae. Hello Lady seems different enough from those two titles that it could sell fine, but I wouldn't be optimistic about the sales of a chuunige.
>>24477378Chuunige have sold well when they were properly handled. DI burned a lot of people on the kickstarter and the fact you had to read two different versions to get the entire experience turned some people off. the Propeller titles were essentially pointless in this medium because you could just watch a typical shounen anime and have a much better experience. Stryker sold very well and was received well, Schatten sold decently and aside from the censorship was received fondly once a restoration patch was created. There's a market for action-oriented titles but publishers keep bringing over shitty ones or keep mishandling ones that could be good.
>>24477308Hmm, maybe something like Hatsuyuki Sakura? They have a relationship with Saga Planets. Also wishful thinking and unlikely, but I'd like Oretsuba to get translated one day.
Wasn't NN hinting that they were going to do Irotoridori before getting sniped by SolPress? Meaning that they were either going to go to Favorite for it or already had a basis for getting it. Personally, while I love to joke that NN is just rebranded SP, it's probably just SP's biggest shill, Akerou, getting SP to surrender the Yuzusoft license to them since SP had no real intention of finishing it any time soon.NN getting a lot of top-level devs off the starting gate is probably the biggest reasons why people think they are the same though.
>>24477456I was thinking something more along the lines of Hello Lady, with Hello Lady doing well leads to relevant X-title you would hope they pick up. Personally I'd like to see the Silverio series from Light. I looked at Akerou's vndb list and he has that at a 9 whereas Fate and Hello Lady are at a 8.8 and 8 respectively for comparison. If I'm not mistaken, he's also the primary guy in charge of licensing decisions. What would be interesting to see is if he or dovac get Mashiro Iro Symphony +Sana edition considering he has it at a 9.4. There's evidence that his tastes come to play considering they attempted to go for the Iroseka trilogy and failed which he has rated at a 10 as seen in the post above.
>>24477521that would explain why Maitetsu came out so horrifically handled and censored with complete rewrites of various sections and they never even noticed.
>>24476183>Companies don't sell finished translations to other companies on titles that they lost the rights to because you're enabling that company to directly compete against your titlesCan you name any other situation where a VN company lost the rights to a game, had a finished translation of said game AND another company acquired the license after them? Selling a finished and unused translation to get some money back makes perfect sense. I don't see how you completely ignore that and jump to conspiracy theories instead. Even if Sekai had engaged in buying up shitloads of licenses to make it so their competition couldn't get them in the past they haven't done that in 4 or 5 years now. That strategy only works if you have enough money you can bleed out your competition until they all die and you're the only game left in town. Clearly that didn't work and they haven't engaged in that strategy for 4 or 5 years now. Also if anything it looks like they want to get out of everything outside of support short VNs and transition to mostly game publishing and doujins so selling off what VN related stuff they have laying around finished but can no longer use like a finished Dracu-Riot translation makes perfect sense.
>>24477432>Stryker sold wellWait, I thought Dengeki Stryker sold like shit. I like it a lot, so that would have been nice, but I recall Doddler complaining that it was a flop on Steam.>>24477466I think the owner of Nekonyan was a fan of Favorite titles, but Sol Press simply acted before Nekonyan did. Another possibility is that Favorite wanted the localization company to do a Kickstarter campaign and went with the company that was willing to do that.
NN could go after other Favorite games now given that Sol Press is abandoning VNs.
>>24477535Well, as admitted by Dovac himself, that happened because he just couldn't be bothered to invest any time into the project because he didn't care about the game.
>>24477606flop on steam doesn't mean it was a flop on the original store. Just that it didn't "make it big" on steam.
>>24477627I'd be really curious to see if NN would bother with completing the trilogy, or if in fact they went for their other stuff like Sakura Moyu. Also, don't they have a 100% completed translation of Astral Air sitting around? Seems like a waste to not use it. https://vndb.org/p6655
>>24477666Most likely, they'll simply translate other stuff. Unless Sol Press already secured the licenses for the sequels, there's nothing stopping Nekonyan from doing them, but it would be awkward for NN.
>>24477666Sol Press might still try to do the other games.>As of right now, we intend to finish all announced projects, but we currently do not have any plans to pick up more VN licenses (with the exception of sequels if demand is sufficient).
>>24477712They literally announced they were dropping 2 VNs a week after that announcement. The only way they do those or Nukitashi 2 is if they're a Nekopara tier success. Don't believe Xev's lies.
I was wondering, how stable is Nekonyan anyway as a company? Seems like I dont hear much drama from them
>>24477712Depends on how it sells of course. They're probably banking on the Chinese translation to do most of the heavy lifting. But assuming that condition isn't met, I wonder if NN would think they could market and handle the sequels better(shouldn't be hard to do) to the point where they could still make a profit.
>>24477758It's almost like if you just focus on making decent releases instead of shitting on your customers constantly then your company will do well.
>>24477772If the first game doesn't sell well, then the sequels definitely won't, no matter who releases them.
>>24477758ask again when the chinese steam client is released because the chinese are currently keeping them afloat with more than 75% of their sales being to the chinese.
>>24477627I know that Sol Press was just a tower of cards waiting to fall but it is funny that after they sniped NN for Favorite they got destroyed.
>>24477938They built themselves around steam, now the steam well is slowly drying up and they die as a result. NN will end up the same way at this rate once they lose the chinese market. Sekai Project as well.
Any good VNs on sale at Steam? I'm thinking of buying Raging Loop. What a bummer that Saya no Uta is censored there, I wanted to gift it to some normie friends.
>>24477938It's impressive how far they've fallen so fast. Their Iroseka announcement wasn't even 2 years ago and they're already tapping out of VNs.
>>24478330>Raging LoopIt's good. If you want another mystery (and sci-fi in this case) game, Island is on sale.
>>24477758They seem to be doing well on Steam, but Steam is a volatile market place. While they have been trying to establish themselves on other stores, I don't think that they can survive if Steam became stricter on visual novels or if the China market becomes cut off due to Steam China.

>>24476767What are you saying? Nekonyan bought Astros FanTL of Clover Days from Sekai...
>>24492991Clover Days was JAST, JAST also didn't own the rights to the fan-tl because they never bought it, they just tied the fan-translator up from releasing it because they were in the talks of acquiring publishing rights to the VN from Alcot. So the fan-translator couldn't publicly release it due to attempting to sell it to jast and JAST was super slow on the negotiations. Eventually they fell through and so the translator was free to shop it around and he finally found someone who bought it.Nekonyan bought the dracu-riot fan-translation from Sekai Project. So as I stated earlier, Sekai Project is the only company in the 25 years that western VN releases have been a thing who has sold an actual translation to another competing publishing company. The next closest thing to that would have been JAST flat out buying a competing company and adding all of their titles to their own lineup.
>>24489111You could be right, but I have doubts Hikari Field could release on Steam China that easily. It depends on how lax the Communist Party of China will be in monitoring the games allowed for Steam China. Japanese eroge will be a hard sell if they are attentative to the titles released onto Steam China, or Japanese anything for that matter.
>>24493155Are you sure it was JAST? Astro was always associated with SekaiProject though?...
>>24493338Yes it was JAST because JAST is the only publisher thus far to release an Alcot title unless my memory is failing me. Therefore they were the best bet for the sale of the translation because they already had previous business experience with Alcot. JAST negotiations take years though and sometimes JAST tells the developer to fuck off because they don't like their terms (Giga for example). No Idea why JAST chose not to pursue clover day's since they had a completed translation, royalty payments I suppose.

MG just announced Room No 9 for August 6th. A bit early, but maybe that's because they are planning to release a second title in August or just because it's AX weekend. It's also been announced for Steam, which just goes to show how hilariously biased Steam is when it comes to BL (Hadaka Shitsuji is also uncensored on Steam). They also implied an announcement tomorrow; it's probably just how many titles they plan to announce for AX weekend.
>>24535949Hopefully with the survey results. I honestly don't care about the hints at this point, I just want to see the results of the year of sales and what the not-top 3 in the survey is.

Kickstarter for Venusblood Hypno(now Hollow) announced. Seems like they're using three translators this time around for English.https://twitter.com/keimaru_9tail/status/1278708400906334215
>>24543481I don't remember any disasterous nameshit or censorship antics in Venus Blood Frontier, and they released the game in a reasonable time frame, so I'll probably get the game through the KS. Though, it's kind of funny that they have to change the name from Hypno to Hollow; that's the type of bullshit Paypal would force companies to pull.
>>24543481What's the logic behind the order they are releasing these?
>>24544184I'm not too familiar with the series, but I'm pretty sure that Frontier and Hypno are some of the more well regarded titles in the franchise. My guess is that they are basing what they localize based on which are the most popular for the fans. Frontier was popular enough to get a direct sequel while Hypno got more fan disks than the other titles. Considering that they are relying on Kickstarter, it's probably the best strategy. Lagoon might be too new to do after Hypno, but they might just ask the Western fan base which title they want then go for that.

https://twitter.com/MangaGamer/status/1278902539866570754MG AX announcements:Steam Prison FDTokeidai no Jeanne
Huh, MG's AX announcements. They are somewhat strange. I wasn't expecting too many this year, though only 2 was a bit surprising.>Steam Prison: Fin Route Was this a Vita exclusive route or something? I guess if you want Vita exclusive routes as DLC, you're getting them. >Jeanne at the Clock TowerI wasn't expecting a Liarsoft title since they released a title with Aniplex USA, but it's an interesting surprise. I don't think this one is particularly good, but vndb scores aren't going to be accurate for such an obscure title.
>>24552128Really weak announcements.
>>24552128>>24552154Really, out of all the Liar-Soft titles they chose this?
>>24552284I blame FGO.
>>24552284They might be trying to capitalize on isekai popularity since it seems to be historical WW2 soldiers thrown into fantasy world.
quite literally Adol
>>24552128>>24552154Considering that the Steam Prison announcement is just an expansion to the original based on the Vita content rather than a wholy seperate title, I wonder if it's actually one of the secret project slots. Either way, this year's announcements are pretty sparse compared to a usual year. It could be because of COVID-19, but there could be other factors like MG wanting to reduce their backlog of announced titles. Counting all of the secret projects and discounting titles stuck in limbo (Rance Quest, IX, X, and Lucky Dog), they have a years worth of titles to stall until next year. Well, with any luck, at least Rance Quest will be released by then.
>>24552128So fucking weak. Who the fuck care about these two titles? I don't want to hear any complaints from them because of poor sales.
>>24554116Go back to /vn/ please.

>>24550070I can not blame him. With how bad social media has become. >>24553143>discounting titles stuck in limbo (Rance Quest, IX, X, aI highly doubt MG would ever get rid of Rance titles those sell like hot cakes at times.
>>24555575What does it matter if they still have a relationship with Liar-soft is they choose games no one cares about?
>>24555714MG will get those done eventually because of money; I was only discounting them because they aren't guaranteed to release within the next 12 months, especially X and Luckydog. Quest and IX might, but that would depend on a lot of uncontrollable factors. Every other title MG has in progress is likely to be done in that time frame since even the secret projects are almost completely translated. That is, unless the secret projects are also gameplay titles with possible programming problems.
Liar-soft is good but Venus Blood all the way. Unless Sekai pulls out some kamige JAST is wining this time.
>>24556173>JAST is wining this timeDo JAST actually have any involvement in it besides hosting the 18+ version?
When I reach a suitable level in Japanese, I will translate a game for all of you. It will be a fourth translation of Cross Channel. Look forward to it in 5 years.
Lmao, state of shitgamer announcement. Gay route and literally who vn from liar soft. Just close this company and put it out of its misery. Also give Alicesoft license to JAST
>>24555830For such a "valuable" license, mangagamer sure don't bother engaging with the fanbase.
>>24555830I would not be the least bit surprised if X wasn't released 4 years from now. The delay with Quest is honestly a joke at this point, and I have absolutely no faith they will release IX in a reasonable time frame either.
>>24556834>The delay with Quest is honestly a joke at this point,Plus they had the same delay with Evenicle and Sengoku so we can safely factor it in for future releases.
>>24556908Imagine the editing and testing X will need.
>>24556930I wonder if it will even be profitable considering how huge it is. Thankfully it lacks voices
>>24556655>Also give Alicesoft license to JASTYeah, that a sound idea. It will only take the heat death of the next universe before they finish with Quest going on JAST time.
>>24550584>Officially English translated VNs?No, I meant Japanese.
>>24556948Considering we all know the pay people get is peanuts it still will be. Plus as you noted it doesn't have voice work which is usually one of the larger (if not largest) costs of VN licensing.
>>24556655>Also give Alicesoft license to JASTAh yes from slow as fuck to never ever. Would be such an improvement.
>>24556700>mangagamer sure don't bother engaging with the fanbaseHonestly, none of the publishers engage with the fanbase despite each owning suitably big titles either.
>>24557035A lot, but most are shovelware. You can go on vndb and sort by recent releases.
>>24556218Jast publish the Steam release for them as well and maybe does some advertising. I still see it as most of the work is being done on ninetail's side, so I don't know why jast get so much credit.
>>24557122At 1.5c per character it's going to cost them around $127k just to pay the translator, add another $63k on to that for editing and you're at 200k for those things alone. Also nice job believing Arunaru's lies, 2 years ago Quof said Aru was making 6 figures a year just from translating, and at that time he was exclusively working for MG.
>>24557211I would say the time you really get any proper engagement from them is when they are doing damage control. I guess you could also say MG does their token survey and hidden hints in the results thing every year but they seem to have forgotten about the latter part this time around.
>>24556700What kind of engagement are you looking for exactly?
>>24557027JAST Venus Blood release was fast, they would probably handle Alice Soft the same way.
>>24557521An actual timeframe for releases. For the past 5 years and any indication that they are prioritising clearing the backlog.5 years is a long time to wait for nothing more than a new translation of Sengoku Rance.
>>24557653It is lazy way to go about things but the reason why a lot of the companies don't is because you get into the situation like Sekai Project where they missed every single deadline they announced. So them not giving deadlines, unless they are super close to release, works in their favour since they can switch up releases to however they want without having fans going "but you promised X on X date".
>>24557804It also doesn't work in their favour when you consider how discontent the Rance fanbase is. People aren't going to wait forever.
>>24557405How much do you think they paid for the license? With those values you gave it might be possible for them to make money at 4.5k-5k copies sold at $60.
>>24557847You say that but we all know Rancefags will still end up eating it up in the end.
>>24557847>People aren't going to wait forever.Yeah, just like people forgot Django and Sumaga, right?
>>24557405>6 figures a year just from translatingYou don't seriously believe this shit right
>>24557847>People aren't going to wait forever. What are they going to do about it exactly?
>>24557576They were basically just a distributor while ninetail did most of the work.
>>24559243Makes sense. If you don't put in similar hours to a full-time job, don't expect to make a comparable wage.
>>24559069Conjueror was able to do a mad rush of translating and basically take the rest of the year off. Arunaru acting like he was being paid some slave wage when he makes twice as much money as I do was just a LARP for Twitter attention as usual. We crunched the numbers here in pretty good detail back when that post surfaced last year and he's totally full of shit. He probably got greedy once he got a taste of K$ bucks and was trying to strong arm MG into paying him more and got butthurt when it didn't come to fruition.
>>24557576Venus Blood Frontier was done in house while JAST only started distributing it after the fact. Note how the Kickstarter wasn't announced by JAST but rather was announced by Ninetail themselves. >>24557847People will always bitch about the wait time, but they will generally buy it when it's done. Hell, people bought Sengoku Rance despite an adequate fan translation already existing for a long, long time beforehand. The only time I've seen a title too long to make being an argument to boycott said title is if you kickstarted the project.
>>24559243>>24559630wtf I hate arunaru now? But he's not the only one that cries about rates, so what's the deal here?
>>24559681I mean, when you compare it to the LN or Gacha industry and their rates, it's obviously lower, but that's to be expected because the eroge industry is like 1/10th the size in the West (and probably in the East too). Most of the people I've seen complaining about VN wages, like Steiner, have also worked on light novels and so on, which tends to pay better. That's why Quof jumped to light novels. I imagine they're also easier and more comfortable to translate as well by comparison. Though even Steiner called out Arunaru for lying about his numbers basically
>>24559681I think it's also the issue mentioned in this post >>24559243 that some translators are sorry fucks that don't want to put in 8 hours of work each day and then cry when they don't make very much.
>>24559681Most translators are ex-NEETs with zero work ethic who only learned Japanese so that they'd be able to read pornographic powerpoints.
Assuming the announcements are this weekend, I would have guessed that JAST and Sekai would have given a timeframe of those announcements by now. I guess they don't feel the need to do so because they're digital only announcements. >>24556173MG might be able to make it up with Otakon, though if they had a major Alicesoft title like Evenicle 2, they probably would have announced it in the AX timeframe. I'm not expecting too much; maybe a neat nukige at most. I agree JAST wins by default (even if Venus Blood is only being distributed rather than developed by JAST) though I'm curious as to what they have to announce this year. They went out of their way to give a teaser for a 2020 announcement title in 2019 after all. As for Sekai, the less good titles they get, the better.>>24557804I'd rather a company wait until last minute to claim a release date than to claim a release date and not make that. JAST USA has gotten better about it, but it still happens with them. You call it laziness, but it's pretty prudent for MG to do that, considering that titles can get stalled for months because of unforeseen circumstances.
I wonder if JAST will finally announce Muramasa or if they'll keep delaying it since they won't be able to do it at a convention.
>>24560240With any luck, we'll only have to wait 5 years after the time of announcement instead of ten.
>>24560240Considering they promised and failed to deliver Majikoi on time and also said Sumaga was coming "winter 2019" with noting more since then they will likely keep sitting on it for now.
>>24560404That was obviously a typo and they meant 2020. Weird that no one caught that haha.
>>24560404I wonder if it's actually ready and they held off on it because Totono had issues. Sumaga, I mean.
>>24560834I mean, it seems kind of weird that they'd come out and give a date for Sumaga after all this time if it wasn't actually reasonable.
>>24560472Pretty sure they meant 2090. The typer misheard the person saying the release date.>>24561093JAST has stalled releases on the announced release day before, so it's not too unusual. Katahane was supposed to be released Winter 2018 IIRC.
>>24558475all the rancefags are going to pirate this shit out of spite as a result, so no, it doesnt work in the end
>>24560472They meant 3019.
>>24559681The ironic thing is Ludo also complaint about MG's rates before, hence why he never worked with them again. But here, he's defending them (unless it's quof there, I don't remember who made this post, but Ludo did defend them too).Basically, they are shit rates but not shit enough for Aru to whine about them.
>>24560404>>24562461Nah, they forgot a digit. It's 20190
>>24557376One thing I can say is I do like how Jasts website is simple to navigate through especially for 18+ patches for Steam. I decided to tip 8$ on top of the patch for Totono because they decided to prioritize and put up with the effort to port it to Steam. Sadly MG needs to get a new website that is easier to navigate through and easy to use. Hopefully within next year we can see a new website made for them. >>24557847>when you consider how discontent the Rance fanbaseWhat a spoiled fanbase Rance gets most of MG's resources, translating Bible tier text length while most of us who want licenses by Clockup, Alicesoft stuff or even Steam releases are the ones who should be the most discontent by the fact we are waiting until Rance is done for any other Titles to be licensed and translated.
>>24555830>Every other title MG has in progress is likely to be done in that time frame since even the secret projects are almost completely translated. That is, unless the secret projects are also gameplay titles with possible programming problems.I think they will be. I just have a feeling we will be seeing a change for Steam Licenses down the road with 10-15 hr VN and more gameplay titles. Which would not be bad considering that the Steam Audience likes that kind of thing and it is simple. But I do agree Rance will be awhile not only because it's Bible tier text but because it will have a lot of bugs to fix.
>>24557847>how discontent the Rance fanbase isIf you mean /haniho/ nobody should take them seriously.
>>24564684You don't understand, it's those Rancefag's fault my shitty harem games aren't being translated!
>>24565009haniho is the eop rance fanbase. name any other place where they congregate in such number while having multiple translators and even an alicesoft staffmember?
>>24565060There's only around 50 regular posters when there isn't anything new and only a portion of that bitches over nameshit and delays
>>24565060As much as I like occasionally hanging out there, they aren't really representative of the people who buy on Mangagamer. Sengoku Rance wouldn't have sold nearly as well if that were the case. As for what community is representative, there's ulmf, I suppose. Though I'm not too familiar with H-game communities outside of 4chan. It's not even really the case that every /haniho/ resident is boycotting MG; I suspect that even within the context of the general that they are a vocal minority.
>>24559120Lose interest and move on.
>>24560209The only justification you have given is that managagmer are too incompetent to meet deadlines.
>>24566273You know you're talking about rancefags right?
>>24564627>What a spoiled fanbase Rance gets most of MG's resources, translating Bible tier text length while most of us who want licenses by Clockup, Alicesoft stuff or even Steam releases are the ones who should be the most discontent by the fact we are waiting until Rance is done for any other Titles to be licensed and translated.Mangagamer has never prioritised Rance. During the last 5 years they have released Rance VI (87% completed fan translation in 2015), Rance 5D (fan translation complete in 2015) and Sengoku Rance which they at least translated from scratch. During the same period of time they have released three other Alicesoft games which they translated from scratch and there is zero evidence of Rance titles delaying releases of anything else.
What happened to the Ate the Moon Translations translator? I remember /vn/ sent appreciation emails for his/her work a few years ago which resulted in a new project that never went anywhere. The Ayakashibito translation was really good as far as I remember, and a rare full length chuuni fan translation at that.
>>24566289Obviously, MG, JAST, Sekai, Nekonyan, and all of the rest haven't met all of the internal deadlines they've presumably made over the years. However, I can't get mad if a company fails to meet private deadlines that they never mention publicly. It's a different story if they announce a public deadline and fail to meet that public deadline. I can't get mad if they fail a deadline that I don't know about; that's absurd.
>>24566672Coco? She probably just moved on from the scene, although there's a slim chance that she could come back and finish the job on Tsuriotsu since this isn't the first time she has gone radio-silent for a few years.
>>24566289You don't want companies to announce deadlines way in advance. That's how you get that Sol Press slide with dates for their next 7 releases and only 1 of them came out on time.
>>24470349>Schwarzesmarken - Through GreenlightWhat's the point of this? Greenlight doesn't even exist anymore and it's clearly not getting localized.
Interesting post by Peter https://blog.jlist.com/your-friend-in-japan/the-history-of-anime-expo-and-j-list/
>>24567201>Sonico was such a successful release, we ended up selling more copies of the English version than Nitroplus did in Japan.
>>24566681Just letting titles sit in limbo forever is much better.
>>24567201>I started JAST USA in 1995 and later founded J-List as a side business “to tide us over for a year or so” until visual novels took off, but of course J-List would end up being the main business.Nerd!
>>24565245>Sengoku Rance wouldn't have sold nearly as well>2.5k for a fucking Rance>wellLmao.
>>24574612I'd like to know where you got that number from.
>>24574654He's still parroting what Arunaru said fucking ages ago.
>>24577903I am somewhat curious as to how Rance VI sold in a similar time span. I know that it sold well enough in its first 5 weeks (including the preorder period) to make number 2 in yearly sales for that year, but I wouldn't be surprised if 2.5k sales was enough to accomplish that. Though, it goes without saying that the best selling Alicesoft title MG has is Evenicle.
>>24567201Thanks for sharing. Peter is really the perfect case of the successful otaku businessman. Damn the dawn of internet was such a good era.
>>24574612For a game that was translated a decade ago that lots of people had already played and without the backing of Steamfags for extra sales that isn't that bad.
>>24566289Everyone is incompetent when they are not as big as the rest of other companies are with vast amounts of resources and money backing. VN's do not make that much money compared to the rest of the industry. >>24566319You are half correct. MG did take a lot more time to clear out their backlog and then get resources on Rance. Either way i just hope for some fucking Clockup releases within this decade.
>>24574612It was top selling for 2-3 months and then came back a few times. How much do you want to bet if they made a Chinese version it would sell triple?
>>24568462They would still be in limbo even if they give deadlines that they never hit. Just look at Sumaga as an example where we have been told many times it is coming soon even with timeframes every now and again.
>>24583421>How much do you want to bet if they made a Chinese version it would sell triple? Can the Chinese buy off MG's store? It is sometimes hard enough for people in the west to get their card working for it.
>>24583711I do think doddler said he was working on it. My entire guess is he is going to make it and shift away.
>>24583406>MG did take a lot more time to clear out their backlog and then get resources on Rance.Did they actually add resources onto Rance?
>>24584560Read the OP to find out.
>>24584560https://twitter.com/MangaGamer/status/1231010278114045952What resources those are though we don't know. Could just be because they don't have Arunaru and they mean his replacements.
>>24584881>Could just be because they don't have Arunaru and they mean his replacements.Yes, I'm sure it means that they're bringing in another translator for a game that has been fully translated for years now.
>>24584928You know he did more than just translating right?
>>24584953He was heavily involved from start to finish, be it play testing, QA, editing, etc.
>>24584975Maria was the translator for Quest. I don't see how Arunaru is relevant in this case.
>>24585001And you think he wasn't on the list of QA and play testers for it?
>>24584975So a bunch of stuff that's either already been done since before he quit and things that don't need done until all the other stuff is done. I see.
>>24585013I'm pretty sure he was busy with his own projects like Evenicle, Sengoku Rance, Rance 9, and Rance X. I think it would be foolish to waste a translator's time on things that can be achieved by others.
>>24585054I was trying to pull up him showing off testing some stuff but his twitter account seems to have been nuked so I guess I can't say anything any more on that.https://twitter.com/Aru_Naru/
>>24585185I don't remember Aru ever posting screenshots from Quest on his twitter, only Maria.
A few things from Sekai Project. They plan to release Harumade Kururu, Island Diary, and Nekopara 4 this year. They mentioned a couple of other titles, but didn't explicitly say that they were planned for 2020; they are Love's Sweet Garnish 2 and Ditzy Demon's FD. They also plan to release an HD patch for Hoshimemo, which is at least interesting, moreso than any of their announcements. As for new game announcements, there's 9-nine- episode 4, Karakara 3, and Snobbish Dragon Princess from Whirlpool. That accounts for 3 secret projects, so the other 2 could be that yuri EVN that they also announced and maybe the Hoshimemo patch.
>>24585569So much shit I don't care about
>>24584928Wasn't Quest fully translated when MG picked it up too? I was a bit surprised when they said it was 80 something after they announced it so maybe they undid some progress.
>>24585953No, but this puts into perspective that the project has been in the works for a while now. Still nothing compared to JAST time. https://vndb.org/r53018.2
Huh, MG had a pretty sizable status update. There are few other minor things, but I'll just list the big ones. Rance Quest is in beta, Jeanne is the 2nd secret project, Fin Route for Steam Prison is the 5th, and they announced a 6th and 7th secret project. The 6th is 60% translated and 55% edited while the 7th is 70% translated and 66% edited. Rance Quest might actually release by 2021 (inb4 new major bugs found during beta testing like in Evenicle), and that confirms 4 announcements for Otakon time period (late July- early August). Either that or they are saving some announcements for the Anime NYC time period.
>>24586231https://twitter.com/tulipgoddess/status/1279585648022675456Surprising no one, beta testing's going to take a while.
>>24586252There is no chance of Quest this year
>>24587470Ah, I meant by the end of 2021, but my post was unclear about that.
>>24585569How many VNs are in their backlog now? Like 30?
>>2458782632 by my count. By comparison, JAST has 14 titles in their backlog while MG has about 22. I don't know if MG plans to do the last 3 Higurashi Hou sidestory chapters though (which I remember being promised in the original announcement). Vndb also claims that MG is doing Umineko Saku, but I don't remember that being announced at all.
>>24588793Scratch that, make that 6 side story chapters: 3 originally from Rei and 3 new to Hou.
>>24587826Probably 40 now.
>>24584975Arunaru was never heavily involved with Quest.
>>24595856New thread up with updates for this week
>>24566319MG also prioritized getting two Beat games out which no one fucking asked for. Look at the survey results if you don't believe me. Haruka sold well thanks to it holding the Rance games hostage so we'll see if Escalayer can crack top 3 or top 5 in sales next year.
