why is such big cars neccesary in united states?
>>
If you own a house you should own a truck too, simple as.

fat cars for fat people. the way of the am*rican society

manlets buy them to feel powerful for once in their lives.

everyone who buys these cars is a farmer who needs to transport a lot of material every day, dont you know?

it's like an arms race
everyone else has big cars so you need a big car to be safe from all the other big cars
if you're in some small euro car you'll get obliterated and die in a crash

They are not, americans are well know for being retarded cosumists, they entire culture revolves around buying the best, not necesarily what you need.

The safest cars are often very small. This french car looked like a shitcar, but it was one of the safest cars ever designed for fast driving (for its price at least).
>>
>>171286185
my dad hates french cars
he only allowed me to buy a japanese car
>>
>>171286038
i don't see how that makes sense, with small cars you can zip around faster and parallel park on busy roads. unless you're a hockey player who carries his own gear to the rink i don't understand why anyone would want to rumble around in a big ass truck every day.
>>
>>171285920
>can pack a ton of shit for weekend trips. Yes, more than an SUV.
>better for driving in snow, through dirt and mud, can hop curbs, etc.
>sit up high for better FOV
>can transport large items yourself
>can transport dirty items you wouldn't want to put in your actual car (ex: lawn equipment, trash, old rugs and carpets)
>tailgates...nuff said
I've had a truck for less than a calendar year and so far it's come in handy for all of the above.

It's a smart choice, though I heard the reason countries like ours like Japanese cars, is that they're also designs for more extreme weather compared to the boring weather of north Europe (so they're more durable).
>>
>>171286329
maybe so
but he hates them because they break down and don't age well and aren't as repairable as japanese cars

Rams are pretty common here and they are not THAT ridiculously massive. They are just comparing them to tiny shitbox
>>

It depends. E.g. the peugeot 106 from 1996 can still survive if you do mild repairs.

But yeah in the past few years all Mechanics say get japanese.

>>
>>171286185
Depends what sort of collision. If you hit a deer or moose in that you're absolutely fucking dead, it's going straight through your windshield.
It probably has good crumple zones in the event of a collision with another car, but collision physics is complicated, and what performs well when it hits another similarly sized vehicle might not do very well when it hits a 2 ton truck.

At least in Canada, everyone either lives in the 1-2 significant cities per province, or they're (relatively) rural which means buying groceries once or twice per month, hauling your own purchases home, driving roads which haven't been plowed in the winter, etc.
Even people who do own cars here often own a second vehicle that they drive in the winter because compact cars become nearly totally unusable outside of the city during winter.

Yeah but hitting a wall is not the only way to have an accident. Control before the collision may have more to do with it (prevention).

E.g. I had lost control of my dad's audi when my mom's small french car would feel like controlling your feet.

The visibility honestly isn't that bad except in front of the hood, which isn't nearly as much of a concern as it was 15 years ago given that literally everything being sold in NA now has ultrasonic sensors for blindspots.
The maintenance thing is also wrong at least in NA - the Ford F150 is the most popular vehicle nearly every year for as long as I can remember. Dealerships are ubiquitous, parts are everywhere, mechanics are universally familiar with them, and they aren't even that bad to fix yourself given their good clearance, which means you don't need to jack them up to work on them.
They're definitely harder on gas, but our gas is a lot cheaper than most of the world to begin with so it's less of a concern.

Dunno, generally speaking though, vans are seen as very unattractive here.

What will happen if gasoline prices continue to rise?

Maybe Toyota will launch this in the near future to compete with the Ford Maverick
Currently the PROBOX gets 47-59 mpg.
Fuel economy will improve further as it will be lighter
one of these days you guys may have to give up your souls.
>>
>>171288382
pedestrian has the right of way when the light is green on their side. the white car is the first one at fault.
>>
>>171289148
>What will happen if gasoline prices continue to rise?
Dunno, we'll see.
Canada and the United States both have thousands of untapped/inactive wells which are waiting for prices to rise to become profitable to operate again. That would likely serve to cap prices at a somewhat reasonable level.
Green centric parties don't mind rising prices since it pushes electric vehicles, but rural Canada and America feed the cities and ultimately rely on affordable fuel, so subsidies are a possibility.
For people working in the trades, there are legal loopholes which are frequently practiced as well. Most of my coworkers are classed as independent sub-contractors rather than employees of my boss, which allows them to do things like write off all the fuel they burn at work as a business expense, which reduces the taxes they need to pay.
>>
>>171289426
That would be good.
I think it would create more jobs and reduce unemployment.
And world oil prices will stabilize.
Now the biggest challenge will be how to silence the blind EV proponents...
