Why do Europeans fear skyscrapers?
>>
because european cities are made for living, not for massive corporations to build their cuck towers to ruin the scenery
>>
>>171278015
They don't, every major European city has skyscrapers nowadays, even Vienna, not to mention Paris or London which are global skyscraper superpowers. This no skyscrapers meme could be true 50 years ago but not now
>>
>>171278015
They're efficient but ugly, we have them but not in cities with historic architecture. Manchester and Frankfurt have many, but they're the ass of Europe and not the face (Vienna, Milan)
>>
>>171278565
>we have them but not in cities with historic architecture.

Do you imply London doesn't have historic architecture?
>>
>>171278590
I'm sure it had some, but most of London looks like a hundred generic UK cities crammed together and there are few ancient and memorable buildings in London, besides the Elizabeth Tower and Buckingham Palace. You can't walk twenty feet in most other European capitals without finding much nicer buildings than 99% of London, in my experience. For better or worse, it's a working capital, not a museum.
>>
>>171278810
Historic doesn't always mean nicer, you know. Those British townhouses come from the same era most of Paris, Vienna or Prague houses do (late 19th century) but while British houses are rather simple, ascetic and just boring, those in France or Austria or Czechia attract tourists from all of the world. It was always kinda surprising to me why Anglos (Americans even more) didn't build nice architecture when everyone around did

The idea of massive cities is something that I find repulsive. It's contranatura.
>>
because we peaked in the 16th century and it has all been down hill from there

Riga peaked in 1989 though

I vent to Wroclaw and it's much nicer looking than most UK cuties, but in terms of efficiency, you can't really argue with economics my friend.
>>
>>171278015
Wouldn't be so bad if they were like the earlier 20th NYC ones, rather than the modern shitty glass and steel wankery.
>>
>>171278015
because they are hideous and soulless?
>>
>>171279443
skyscrapers aren't economical at all, they're signs of power just like feudal castles. the most efficient kind of building is actually just making normal midrise offices but that's not enough for ceocucks playing high score
do you think corporation = le economics?
>>
>>171279391
if i go around my city's downtown i can spot the rusting tracks of the old streetcar system laying there like a rotting carcass through streets and plazas and all sorts of areas

Wrocław does have skyscrapers, just they're not right in the old town but on the outskirts.

if you build a 21st century city from scratch it looks nice and you feel superior to other countries
placing 5 storey modernist dogshit boxes next to 'traditional' buildings is what europeans will do
and then some will place a skyscraper next to a medieval larp village town centers which is retarded

European culture emphasized the display of wealth and class so architects would build fancy apartments for the rich facing the street and hide the poor in the back, while anglo culture was more egalitarian, individualistic, and frugal, so every one got a street facing townhouse and people were less inclined to add frivolous things that would be consider decadent in a protestant culture.
>>
>>171281067
>there is single european culture except anglos who are totally unique
do you think only anglos are protestant and that spanish, balkan, german and russian urban planing is completely similar

hillarious take
if you thing rich euros lived in these appartment buildings youre delusional
lawyers, doctors, and captains of industry lived in huge houses like this
>>
>>171281720
Maybe not superpoor and superrich but at least here there was sometimes this kind of social stratification within one building so richer people (often owners of the building) lived in big fancy apartments on the top while poor tenants lived in cellars

skyscrapers are very beautiful
it just happens that UK is absolutely terrible at building them
if you don't find the skylines of Manhattan or Shanghai spiritually invigorating there's something wrong with you

You can live in a skyscraper, you know. (if you aren't a poorfag)
>>
why would you like to see a skyscraper? You don't go there unless you're a corporate drone, so otherwise, what good is a skyscraper? You like seeing it? Why? What does it symbolize? To me it just symbolizes some ZOG corporation that is pilfering the people...it symbolizes KKKorporate power. Corporations live higher than everyone else. You have the plebs downstairs, and then the slave masters in their ivory towers. Take them down, i say. It is filth.
>>
>>171281447
19th century western European cosmopolitan city did follow similar trends

As for Protestantism, it had influence in countries with entrenched noble hierarchies
>>171281966
The poor tended to live on the upper floors before elevators
>>171281908
The wealthy had multiple properties in and out the city like today.
>>
>>171283151
why, exactly, are corporations so bad? because the people in charge of them are richer and more successful than you?
all of this hate always stems from jealousy. you're the same as those anti work retards who scream about "eating the rich" because they're not given free money for sitting on their ass
>>
>>171278015
They're ugly and soulless
>>
because expensive skyscrapers are treated as stock assets for rich people
half of the luxurious new mega towers are basically half empty

>you have no legitimate reason to dislike them.
I don't need a reason. I don't like them and that's that.
>>
>>171283453
there are people who are richer and/or more successful because they excel and persevere at some skill, whether that's athletics, arts, law, military, architecture, medicine, engineering, physics, etc. There are also rich business people who started their own business by providing a desirable service and competing against others. People who get to the top in these methods have merit, hard work, passion and values. Sure they have some luck and ambition, even some greed but it's an acceptable part of society.
Then there's corporations. They destroy competition and corrupt every other facet of social life so it's all subservient to money. They do this until money overrides all other values, until all culture is based on profitability, they push everything out that doesn't submit. People who get to the top are just those who are the best servants of money. There's no greater goal behind it, they will change their philosophy and goals on the drop of a dime if it increases profit.
It's perfectly rational to respect the first group and despise the second.
That's what the skyscraper symbolizes: money over everything.

there was a thing called communism and brainwashing
capitalism = le bad

I've been to the biggest cities of USA and China, even though those sky scrapers look impressing I will prefer the cozy European old Town of cities like Vienna and Barcelona every single time.

There's just something soulless about those same looking glass steel npc skyscrapers, they take away the beauty of life and make you literally feel like an meaningless robotic ant in one of those glass anthills. A cuck to the big coperations.

Meanwhile European oldtowns have a sense of comfort and historical beauty, the architecture is not just a glass cube for profit maximization but a piece of art to enrich the minds and well being of the people living around them.
