hi everyone, im the pole from the thread yesterday, just wanted to say thanks again to everyone who helped me with my anki frustration. the anki deck i did today was a very enjoyable experience and i blame it on the help i got from here. thanks!
Thoughts?I was surprised that so many place names were ateji to this extent
>>127882239>>127882707I already know plenty of Japanese because I watch a lot of anime: watashi wa anime daisuki desu! But how to cram the complicated characters? It has like 30 pronunciations, it's pretty fucked and illogical

DJT is the best Japanese language learning hololive shitposting thread on 4chan for むっつりスケベ共 that are interested in everything JapaneseJapanese speakers learning English are welcome as wellHow to learn Japanese:1.Don't waste time/money on garbage like:-All textbooks like Genki, RTK etc.-All mnemonics like KLCC, Kanji Damage etc.-All online courses like Wanikani, Duolingo etc.-All language schools, classrooms etc.-Shitty youtube channels like Cure dolly, matt etc. (日本語の森 is good)-Awful anki decks(only 2k/6k from the OP and a simple yomichan mining deck are good)-Spending 20 hours on Anki daily (you shouldn't spend more than 1-2 hours as a beginner and 30 minutes max after a few months, spamming easy is fine)-JLPT, Kanji Kentei tests etc.-Pitch accent(doesn't actually exist, you can say words however the fuck you want)-Learning how to write on paper (if you really want to waste time on this do it later once you know the basics)Avoiding these beginner traps will cut down your learning time considerably to less than 5 years if you learn every day and never give up2.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnTvarhXH903.Spend a few days getting familiar with hiragana and katakana4.A few months of Anki 6k vocabulary and your favorite grammar guide while reading something easy on the side5.A few years of reading, watching hololive, googling stuff you don't know and you're done!6.Realize there's always more to learn and the ride never ends絶対英語を学べる方法:一つ 楽勝だから方法なんていらないだろうVarious resources:https://www.google.co.jp/https://itazuraneko.neocities.org/https://djtguide.neocities.org/Library:https://itazuraneko.neocities.org/library/librarymain.htmlArchive of older threads: https://desuarchive.org/int/search/subject/Daily%20Japanese%20Thread/Rudeness/reddit screencaps/ecelebs/shills/autism: >>>/jp/djtPrevious Thread: >>127866033https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvSDklO6XcQ
>>127904133Guess this thread is not for you then.>implying he will even read thisI also haven't read a single post that could explain what their issue was beyond inarticulate seething. You can already tell people apart by their flags 95% of the time, because unlike all the language generals this thread has a mixed nationality audience, which is quite small. Some people have been here literally for years so there is no way on earth you wouldnt be able to tell them apart if you werent just a seething newfag.
>>127904410Yeah this most regulars could probably name enough posters (by flag/style) that together make up a majority of posts in the thread. And it’s a pretty small community to begin with because of the niche appeal.
the only thing good about DJT is the sticky and the conversation with Japanese postersother than that it's as annoying as /jp/
>>127904172>tfw israeli flag made it to the meme and mine didn’t

This thread filled with EU flags larping at each other or /jp/ filled with eceleb autism?>I also haven't read a single post that could explain what their issue was beyond inarticulate seethingThe point of 4chan is its anonymity, the fact that you can identify people completely kills the purpose. >>127905334>Then what thread is for me if I legitimately want to learn Japanese?I don't see the issue. Almost every single question that gets posted gets answered here. Otherwise let people have their banter. >>127906284oh i just assume you guys are all the same since you never speak japanese and just shitpost non-stop.there's 2 other threads on 4chan you can partake in, i would suggest going there instead of here. i also have no idea why you're implying i don't know japanese but OK

>>127906389I post in Japanese thread in Japanese, but at this time it's dead. You never post anything in Japanese either and use the 2 months argument all the time to make yourself feel better, so you probably don't know Japanese
where do japanese people pirate shit from? I need to COONSUME
I've got down Hiragana, slightly know Katakana, and I'm making my way through a grammar book. I got the Core 2K deck for Anki but I'm not sure the best way to go about it. There are example sentences that are overwhelming because I know nothing in them besides the example word. I'm guessing I just press "easy" when I can recall the word and how it's read/written every time? Same goes with kanji if I can read/picture it in my head?
>>127907614you should probably watch a youtube video explaining anki. they are like 10 mins long or so and will set you up to know what you're doing is actually doing.the example sentences at first won't make sense but as you start learning more and more words you'll be able to identify what the sentences are talking about. if you put the sentences on the front of cards it will help you identify words when you get stuck. depends on what your steps are like for new cards, but how i go about new cards is>see it>repeat it in my head, write it down in an excel sheet just for memory sake, maybe do a mnemonic if i need it>press again (3m)>then hit good every time it shows upby the last time you see it in your new card queue you should have a pretty good idea of what the card means. even if i fuck up i will just put it into the review q. before i go to sleep every night i just quickly go over the list of words i learned that day and what mental notes i made to remember them. usually by the next day i can remember 13/15 or so.to answer your question, only hit easy on new cards if you've already mastered it before starting the deck. if you have any specific questions after watching a video let me know. anki is weird as fuck the first day you pick it up but after that it just kinda clicks and you're left with tinkering settings to how you learn the best
>>127908342You are better at Japanese than me. I'm at the point where I understand 95% of your post without looking it up, but I could produce less than that. Your grammar is also better than mine. How long are you studying?
>>1279092282 months, I’ve heard
>>127909228I'm not that American that I'm quoting, and it's been probably 8 years now since I first started lol
>>127907969Okay, I watched a video and adjusted the settings a little bit. I'll probably do what you're doing and type out the words I learn so I can review, and because typing stuff out helps me learn better I think. My biggest issue seems to be that I'm remembering what the kanji/word is but I'm remembering the English word for it. Like I'll see the Kanji for "four" but I'll remember it as "yeah, that's four" instead of what the Japanese word is. Just something I need to work on I guess.
>>127909990I first guess the pronunciation and then think of a meaning, not vice versa.Even if it's a word I know really well and the meaning pops instantly in my head, I don't pay attention to it before saying it's pronunciation out loud, then I think of the meaning. If it's a word I know very well I don't have to think of the meaning in English and just think of the object it represents, but for new words I usually think of the English meaning first. If I even pronounce something like きゅこう instead of きょこう, but got everything else right, I click Again regardless, because I want my 'Good' cards to be 100% perfect.
>>127909990I didn’t realise at the time but the sentences are just as useful as the card. Read them before you read the translation and see if you can get the meaning, and most of all, listen to them and (if you’re like me) repeat them. This will really help your memory.I don’t produce enough to say it with confidence, but I am very certain that doing this trains your pitch accent unconsciously, to the extent that I can read a new card’s sentence and get the pitch right with like 70+% accuracy. But otherwise they are still free listening practice and you can see how the word functions. Disclaimer, the lady VA is soulless and bad while the guy is emotive and natural.
>>127909990Yeah makes sense. Feel free to utilize mnemonics or any other way to help supplement your lapses in memory. Assuming you're doing 15 or less cards per day, Anki should not take you more an hour tops to learn the cards. You have to accept that you're going to forget things eventually but that's what the SRS is for. Spending all your free time going over new cards in Anki is the quintessential beginner mistake most people use instead of using that time to either learn a grammar point or do anything else like mow the lawn.Just adjust your anki settings with your progress although feel free to suspend the days of the month cards at the start and re-visit them at a later time, that throws off a lot of beginners as well.
>>127910182>>127910246>>127910339Thanks for the good advice everyone. It's a bit daunting but now I feel more assured and ready to tackle it
any advice on how to differentiate words with similar translations? I've seen a lot of words in my Anki deck that mean need/requirements and they all blend in.
>>127910546like the crazy austrian says - spend less time figuring out how you're gonna study and just do it. now that you know anki settings and hopefully got some of the recommended settings put in you should be set for awhile.glgl
>>127910694put them side by side, google their invidual kanji and just cram it for 10 minutes
Do you also do your Anki on numerical keyboard? (1,2,3,Enter)
>>127911303what kind of retarded question is that, does it matter if someone uses numbers, mouse, or even a guitar hero guitar, are you that starved for efficiency that you need to know the optimal way to press [Good]?
