it's not their fault that 1.7% of their GDP can BFTO everyone else beside America who spend like 3.1%. Why would the US need to spend 3.1% of GDP on defense while China only does 1.7%? Hmm?

there isn't any chinese aggression. The poos thought the Chinese are too busy and under reporting their deaths (case of eating your own shit) to reply to their shenanigans and got clapped. Let Me Tell You About Tibet. Let Me Start With China’s Geography. China Is Surrounded By Unfriendly Countries On All Sides Except The North. It’s Northern Allies, Mongolia And Russia. Lack The Infrastructure In The Region To Be Of Any Help. China Is On It’s Own And Lacks Any Geographic Protection. China’s Southern Border Was Arbitrarily Set By War. It Is Not A Secure Border. The Southeast Asian Countries Stand Strong Together. China’s Historical Western Borders Lack Any Kind Of Mountain Ranges To Secure It’s Population. It Is Basically Defenseless Past Tibet. Furthermore. The Rivers That Feed China, the Yangtze And Yellow Rivers, Source From Tibet. If You Were To Theoretically Eliminate The Population Of China, You Would Control Tibet And Cut These Rivers Off. China’s Coast Is Also Squeezed In By US Force Projection. For This Reason China Would Never Allow Tibet To Be Independent. The Himalayas Also Serve As A Natural Border With Rival India. Who Would Likely Dominate Tibet It China Did Not. To Chinese, Tibet Is An Issue Of National Security. And Is Not For Debate.

That's total bullshit I can explain why if nobody else has yet. Before this our military budget was $30b a year. But last year there was a federal election and JUST before it happened the LNP (our conservative party) feared they were going to lose it so what they did was lock the budget with $90bn+ worth of military contracts for the next few years effectively booby trapping the budget for Labor (center left party) for when they got into office. Mind you this comes AFTER the LNP have been gutting funding for public healthcare and education.

Labor wants to increase funding for education and healthcare again but because of the booby trap the LNP set they could effectively pin on Labor and make it out to be their fault or make them look like they're "weak against china". Election day comes around and everyone votes for the LNP again so now this bomb has effectively blown up in their own faces and now we're stuck with unavoidable contracts that have to be filled and a pants on head retarded population.

it's just they realized the conventional defense-only policy doesn't work anymore, and suspending the land aesis is a milestone in that they tweaked the doctrine and opted for offensive capabilities over another layer of missile defense. in fact this decade is to see deployment of an array of hypersonic stand-off weapons, from glide vehicles, to scramjet cruising missiles, that can directly take out north korea's launching platforms as well as command and control centers, making gooks think twice before they do prank missile launches. and of course it translates to a pressure on china as well.

Meh, I'll believe it when I see it. Both major political parties here have spent so much time kissing China's arse over the last 10+ years that this is more likely just a reason to spend money on weapons more than anything else. If anything those boot lickers in Canberra would probably use the weapons to help China attack somebody else at this point.
>>
>>126054238
t. knows so little about the geopolitics of his own country the brainmass may as well be in the negatives

Both parties have been kissing Chinas arse for the last 10 years because they are our biggest trading partner and China has been largely doing just short of fuck all apart from trading. But the US is our guarantor for security, countries put security and sovereignty over economic comfort. Now that China is slowly encroaching its military onto other countries, everyone is taking the "security and sovereignty" first and foremost again. Even the Philippines, who with a hardline Pro-Chinese supporter in charge, has reversed course and decided to renew US-Flip security deals and ties after Chinese warships got uncomfortably close into Philippine waters without permission

>>
>>126050283

>>
>>126054928
>Not him but the purchase reeks of hamhanded public relations for the LNP stronghold.
Probably is. But that doesn't mean take away from the fact that in the immediate future, a larger, more capable military may be necessary. Asia in the 21st century to what Europe was in the 20th century, where most tensions and flashpoints are going to occur. This isnt an evaluation Australia alone has come to, most of Chinas close neighbours are following suit to expand and modernize their military in response. How many of theirs do you think are purely calculated PR stunts for the ruling party?

>I agree with your assessment
You say assessment like it isn't an indisputable fact. But perhaps not, I once read a book excerpt that read that the US is now stretched between what is two separate continents of interest, Asia and Europe, and concentrating more on one of the other does not necessarily mean abandonment, but more about balancing a foot in either continent, this is where the idea of min military spending for other NATO contributors, which was a thing even before Trump came from.

>>126055028
>The Australian government has been doing the opposite of that for years now.
Of course, because there is little need to prioritize costly security when there is no threat, what do you think the Australian military needed LHD's and F-35s for before 2010? stopping Indonesian pirates on their wooden rafts? lmao

>Again, I'll believe it when I see it.
Vietnam, fucking Vietnam, is taking the strongest anti-Chinese stance in the whole of SEA despite China being their number one trading partner. Philippines has gone from cursing the US and vowing to abandon them in favor of China, to now renewing US-Flip security pacts and agreements, Chinas is top 3 major traders with the Philippines. Indonesia is building military bases on the rim of the nine dash line in response, China is also top 3 for them. It's not just us.

The ASEAN summit happened recently with Vietnam hosting it, and it was basically just Vietnam telling China to get fucked
