What's your take on Pope Francis's wording in yesterday's homily on the day of Saints Peter and Paul? Is Francis walking further away from the claims of absolute authority that the Catholic Church used to have? In practice, this has happened many times already with previous Popes (starting with John Paul II I think) but it looks like Francis is taking it one step further by saying that Jesus is the Rock of Matthew 16:18.
>“You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church” (v. 18). He was not called “Peter”, “rock”, because he was a solid and trustworthy man. No, he will make many mistakes afterwards, he was not so reliable, he will make many mistakes; he will even reach the point of denying the Master. But he chose to build his life on Jesus, the rock; not - as the text says - “on flesh and blood”, that is, on himself, on his capacities, but on Jesus (cf. v. 17), who is rock. And Jesus is the rock on which Simon became stone. We can say the same of the Apostle Paul, who gave himself totally to the Gospel, considering all the rest to be worthless, so as to earn Christ.

he’s saying the opposite of your analysis, that Jesus gave authority to the Church.

Where did I say that?
I just threw down a reference.
That also isn't a counter-argument.
There is no evidence of God and Catholicism itself is a joke, one that completely contradicts the Bible.

Maybe Francis realizes once Catholics get off their high horse reuniting with the Orthodox is more likely

The wording is what's important. Especially in a homily about Apostle Peter where he mentions Constantinople a few sentences later.
>On this occasion it is traditional for a delegation from the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople to come to Rome, but this year it is not possible due to the pandemic. Therefore, I spiritually embrace my dear brother, the Patriarch Bartholomew, in the hope that our reciprocal visits may resume as soon as possible.

Brainlet, while it is true that Francis preaches a very unorthodox doctrine, nothing that he said is heretical, and, moreover, existed in Catholic discourse since medieval times.

I believe Jesus is the rock of Matt 16:18 but I don't think Francis is making that claim here. It looks like he's naming Jesus as a rock on which peter puts his trust, unrelated to the image of the rock on which the church is built.

Francis's wording is that Peter was declared petros because he affirmed that Jesus was the Christ, not because he had some special quality that made him worthy, which is exactly how the verses go.

little wonder christians hate jesus for saving all living creatures
when he closed limbo, purgatory, and hell a few years ago.
the only business of jesus' four sole proprietorships which he

>That Peter's confession is the rock.
No, that isn't how I read it. It's just some weekday homily where instead of going on about the usual Peter is the First Pope homily that people have heard a million times he's going a little bit deeper. Saying that Peter's faith is what made him worthy of being the foundation of the Church, despite being woefully and humanly incompetent.
>>
>Francis walking further away from the claims of absolute authority that the Catholic Church.
I think he's trying to reason with the orthrodox eastern church. Perhaps giving up Papal power could mend the wounds of the Great Schism.

>"Bishop of Rome".
I for one enjoy servus serorum Dei as the favorite title of the Pope. Francis likes minimizing himself. Which is fine.

Bergoglio is an atheist and a marxist. Anyone who defends his legitimacy is a joke. The silver lining is that more and more errors that arose after V2 are getting exposed as a result of his antipapacy.

There is a reasonable hope that V2 will be dropped and forgotten in our lifetimes like other historical false councils.
