Why did the Spanish people despise him so much?
Would his ascension to the throne affect most people other than nobles and bourgeoisie?
>>
It wasn’t because of him personally - in many ways he was a genuinely good and enlightened ruler - but because of what he represented: French imperialism and aggression. I’m sure you’d be a little bit annoyed if your government was overthrown and replaced by the brother of a foreign conqueror.

If he is good for the country I wouldn't give a fuck in the slightest. Stupid spaniards
>>
>>6132829
Spaniards that protested the French imperialism were rounded up and executed.

There was a frenchified movement already in Spain looking for the enlightment ideas and revolution. All he had to do was either a revolution within Spain or just put a Spaniard (puppet) at the throne (Spain was already its ally), he decided to put his brother and his troops committed mass pillage, rape and killings of civil population.

I genuinely don't feel sorry for what happened to spain, I just wished more of spain had been burned during the penisular war.

The Bourbons were installed by Louis XIV anyway, what difference does it make to swap one foreign monarch with another?
>>
>>6132775
The Spanish intellectuals liked him, the devout Catholic peasantry hated him and the French mostly they viewed them as atheistic invaders
>>
>>6135204
>were installed by Louis XIV
They were the legimate heirs to Charles the II
>>6135379
>Spanish intellectuals
Not even that. Most liberals went and created the masonic constitution of 1812.
Nobody liked Pepe who was a thief (he bought a mansion in New York after stealing national art and a big part of the royal treasury) and an illegimate ruler. /his/ will like him because he was French but the constant sackings of his troops, destroying the national institutions and spoiling its art deserved a much more sever punishment than what that moron got

Portugal was the only catholic country in Europe that wasn't on the big catholic alliance prior to the French revolution (the italian kingdosm,Austria,Spain and France). Portugal deserved to be destroyed for playing the game of the heretics and betraying their own faith for a bunch of Shekels

You think Joseph could get away with doing things Napoleon didn't want?

Pretty funny seeing most people defending the Spanish for what they did to Napoleon but shit on Mexico when they did the same thing to the other Napoleon.

Because the French behaved like absolute savage niggers in Spain, unlike in Mexico
