>>15103816Pan Slavism was almost always just a front for Russia to expand its influence/power, but more so because the Slavic groups are just too different for that to happen, whereas the Germanic peoples are pretty homogenous all things considered with a few quirks here and there. Catholic, West Slavs are an entirely different thing to Orthodox Eastern Slavs, and the South Slavs in the Balkans need no explanation. The languages are kind of similar, and thats pretty much where the commonality ends, because anything Slav related is primarily related to the language spoken. And after the USSR and current shitflinging in Ukraine, you can forget the idea entirely regardless of your stance on recent events unless its something like V4 or some anti Russia alliance or something. Even Serbia is starting to distance themselves a little from Russia nowadays.
