Historically speaking, why is American country music so nationalistic and patriotic compared to other genres of music in the United States from a historical perspective? How did it get this way?
>>13756853recording and broadcasting being controlled by big business? a lot of old folk stuff is anti-capitalist
>>13756853Cold War Era Reagan administration + most country listeners happen to be Whites from the South = patriotic country music in America. It is mainly about demographics
It's inherently traditional and conservative since it's holding onto old genres and practices instead of changing with the times
>>13756853Country music was rooted in Americana folk music, specifically Scotch-Irish tunes mainly in the south. This sort of music always appealed to rural southern people who had strong patriotic feelings. I think the patriotism of the south mainly comes from the fact that historically, its been southern men who were the bulk of the fighting force of the US military. I think there has been this thing of urban "hipster" latching onto country music in a certain way and attempted to sort of redefine what it is, but I think this is mainly so people can LARP as rednecks for whatever reason, similar to how you often hear socialist in America repeat this lie that "red neck" comes from socialist union workers who wore red bandanas around their necks. But country music has traditionally been "edgy". Back in the day, good upstanding people would listen to Christian gospels music, while badass dudes would listen to country music and ballads about whisky sipping, whore fucking, gun fighting cowboys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SenN7Xe87k
>>13756853Because it's one of the few music industries that still loves this country and doesn't s*** on it like others do. Now go back Reddit you stupid liberal. Go preach your anti American anti-military hatred elsewhere.
Country music is and has always been diverse, it's just that this brand of country music has been the most commercially successful in the past couple decades.
>>13756862>recording and broadcasting being controlled by big business?Big business is neither nationalistic nor patriotic.
The original stations that played what would become the country music radio format were financially propped up by Henry Ford in order to "combat" black/Jewish dominated jazz music which he thought was corrupting the nation. Add a few decades of 20th century American sociopolitical developments and you get the the perfect soundtrack for mcmansion-dwelling suburbanites who think they're good ol' country boys because they drive an F150 to their job at the law firm (it ain't much but it's honest work).
>>13756864>>13756887I have to wonder the reason why the South tends to be very patriotic and nationalistic stems from the fact that they were on the losing side of the American Civil War. Like in order to prove their loyalty to the United States of America, the South became more nationalistic and patriotic rallying around the flag whose loyalty is more with the nation rather than with their own home state. Just a thought.
>>13756896People often confuse "diversive" with anti American. Or people look at all outlaw country music and interpret this as being fundamentally anti-patriotic or something, a common claim I see people make. But all these old country people, while being these wild assholes, also held a firmly patriotic core to themselves. I've heard people say shit like Johnny Cash would be some antifa ACAB guy because he sang songs about doing drugs and sang in prisons, but this is because these people have no idea he has songs like thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfzJ8UBr-c0It really boils down to a blindspot of people not getting southerners or rural midwesterners either. >>13756909like this post. Southern rich people buy big trucks, even if they work a white collar job, because they use that truck to haul their boat to go fishing, or to haul supplies to their deer camp to build a hunting stand, or for various projects around their farm or something. Its not a LARP, its just that some of these people are rich and use their money to buy nicer things to make their lifestyle easier. This person doesnt understand this.
>>13756904that's why it bankrolls schizos?
>>13756914The southern man has been the main fighting force of the United States military since its inception. Having your young men be the fighting force will naturally breed a strong since of patriotism since its your son fighting at the front. It also makes people closer to soldiers in times like this, when its less common. Like the average southerner will probably have a cousin or friend who was in Afghanistan vs some upper middle class north easterner who probably has no personal relationship with any veterans.
>>13756932And yet it is groups like Lockheed Martin Raytheon and other major industries of the military industrial complex are removed from this identity. It seems like the Southern Man who was fighting in the armed forces faces the force of the war, and yet those are the upper middle class who make the decisions often and dictate policy don't share that identity with Southern good old boys who waved the American flag.
>>13756972Exactly. Its why there is currently a recruitment crises in the US military. You have West Point and the Military Industrial complex "dunking on chuds" and promoting a world view diametrically opposed to that of the fighting force of your nation. There is this dynamic where these people are told being nationalistic is brutish and awful, that they are racist, that statues and monuments to their martial past are outdated and are torn down by crowds of college kids whos dads then make the decision to send these people into conflicts for god knows why while also paying dishonest lip service to their genuine patriotic beliefs just enough to hype them up into fighting another bullshit war. People know this which is why there is this pushback. https://youtu.be/ur9ng7lQOdI
>>13756932God willing that becomes less and less common into the future. I feel like even naive 16-20 y/o southern men are starting to see that the cosmopolitans and executives that they'd be fighting for despise them and want them gone. Recruiting is only getting harder and I feel like most military people I see now are urban hispanics or OCS middle class whites. Let them take the hit if we go toe to toe with China.
>>13756853I think the rise of corporate country is a big part of it. Lots of traditional, grass roots country/folk was (if not openly anti-nationalist) at least critical of conditions. This same trend was also in Jazz, another grass-roots driven genre of music in the United States.https://youtu.be/UsvFzXr-o-8Once Nashville became a music factory instead of a music Mecca, it lost the soul and just slapped an America flag on every CD cover for cash.
>>13756853Well Country music used to be a lot more cynical towards the government. Johnny Cash, Kris Kristopherson, Waylon Jennings, they all would sing songs criticizing american policy in way or towards prisoners or native americans or black people. But once country became more of a business, more of an organized movement with it's Hollywood in Nashville, the executives began exerting more creative control. The big country music moguls knew that the main demographic for country music was very Southern, more middle aged, rural, Christian, and conservative. All traits which correspond with being highly patriotic in the USA.So new country music was made to be a lot cleaner with much less of the outlaw stuff Johnny Cash had going, or the socialist folk songs of Woodie Guthrie. Also after 9/11 Country music doubled down on patriotism just in the way their audience became more patriotic after that terrorist attack. So after the Iraq war, when Country stars the Dixie Chicks wrote songs against the war, they got blacklisted from the whole industry. Which sent a message to other Country musicians, that being to not criticize the orthodoxy.Though nowadays many conservatives think that the country is going to shit anyway, so it's turning around. There are country and folk music scenes which still carry that old school critique of the government and country. But they lack the big business support of Nashville Also the rural/urban divide has made things more extreme
>>13757766>being patriotic means never ever criticizing any aspect of your country ever >all these good ole boys were Antifa ACAB "fuck the USA" people!Waylon Jenningshttps://youtu.be/g13CfwdlObEJohnny Cashhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfzJ8UBr-c0Kristofferson does lean left though, thats a good point. But other famous country singers like George Jones, Trace Atkins, Charlie Daniels, All three generations of Hanks are all outspoken conservatives/republicans/right winger ect. This attempt to retcon country music as fundamentally left wing is just stupid. Its obiously a genre that leans into patriotism naturally, but there are obviously standouts who arent like this like Kristofferson like you mentioned or Willie Nelson or John Prine, but these are exceptions that prove the rule.
>>13757766>Dixie ChicksTraitors who should have gotten the death penalty for undermining the President during wartime. You never get political with Country Music or even dare try to undermine this country during times of war.
>>13757941>If you don't make shitty country songs about "muh troopz" and kiss Dubya's ass you should be put against the wallBoy,you really are a sick fuck
>>13757912he didn't say anything remotely like what you're quoting and that's not what "exception that proves the rule" means
>>13756904>Big business is neither nationalistic nor patriotic.
>>13756862he asked about nationlism and patriotism not capitalism you mentally ill troon
>>13758417He specifically mentioned people like Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings as examples of country singers being cynical torwards America from a leftwing point of view when it wasnt at all true. I conceded that there are left wing country singers, but they are not the norm and that the majority of them are right leaning. >>>13758453>DUDE A FLAG LMAO
>>13758479>from a leftwing point of viewno he didn't the post is right there you can go reread it
>>13756853It's cope because they are cucks irl
>>13757912>This attempt to retcon country music as fundamentally left wing is just stupid. Its obiously a genre that leans into patriotism naturally, but there are obviously standouts who arent like thisMy sense is that country music is supposed to be "rooted," and reflect a particular place. There's no country music of nowhere. Obviously, that's easily compatible with conservatism. But it can reflect different points of view. You mention Willie Nelson. What's interesting about Texas is that back in the 60s/70s, there was a oddball folkish bluesy hippie-country fusion and he came out of that. Kinky Friedman was another one of these guys. They did their own thing and were very anti-authoritarian which in a Texas context would also be directed at an authoritarian conservative culture while they're also performing country music. There was another one of these groups that I went and saw at a bar here who are in that scene, and the main guy wrote a memoir and it was interesting because he was hanging around 60s left-wing radicals back in those days (some of whom went to prison).https://youtu.be/VASrlXnJe2E

>>13758479Big business like compliant, robotic workers who don't complain. And that is easily compatible with a nationalistic point of view. Don't think. Don't question anything. Don't complain.

>>13756853Popular music is made by the cia. Black metal too
>>13756853Ironic how the people who contribute the least to America are the most brash and jingoistic about it. Literally horrific economic drain flyover states but muh pride. All people who move this country forward live on or near the E or W coast.
>>13757941>yes I will deliberately drive slower with my 18 wheeler when zoom zoom feds are trying to convoy QRF to the asian invasion
>>13758552They may talk about being true Americans but you’re genuinely retarded if you believe that. A big flag is nothing compared to mass immigration and outsourcing they have in practice been pushing. An actual nationalist worldview in today’s America would be anti-capitalist
>>13758552>fight the power >..... no DONT FIGHT JEWISH POWER>fight the man!>......NO DONT FIGHT THE BLACK MAN>stick up for the little guy>......
