why did portugal get buck broken by the dutch and have their empire stolen?
>>
>>11930794
The outcome was that Portugal successfully repelled Dutch attempts to secure Brazil and Angola while the Dutch were the victors in the Cape of Good Hope and the East Indies, with the exception of Macau which the Portuguese retained, capturing Malacca, Ceylon, the Malabar Coast, and the Moluccas
>>
>>11930809
why were the dutch able to take half of their indian ocean colonies when the portuguese had been there for a hundred years and the dutchmen were just an upstart empire full of mere opportunists?
>>
>>11930857
They worked with the muslims
>>
>>11930794
In the long run they won. Brazil will be a world power at some point and spread Portuguese culture while the Dutch become some muttoids that speak English and destroy their own culture
>>
>>11930809
>Portugal successfully repelled Dutch attempts to secure Brazil
It was the Spanish navy who kick them out (Fadrique de Toledo) the Portuguese were pretty incompetent and once they got their independence from Spain they lost all their territories in one swoop
>>
>>11930973
>Brazil will be a world power at some point and spread Portuguese culture
LMAO no. brazil has already peaked
>>
>>11930997
>LMAO no. brazil has already peaked
No it hasn't. It is a huge country with all resources imaginable and a huge agricultural industry that will be needed to feed the hoardes of negroes born in Africa. The Southern Cone will enter in a golden age 30 years from now
>>
>>11930993
Except all their territories that kept
>>
>>11931029
>Except all their territories that kept
The Spanish kept Brazil. The Portuguese lost all the north of Brazil and Fadrique de Toledo destroyed their entire presence.
>>
>>11931007
>huge agricultural industry
agriculture stopped being relevant like a hundred years ago. havent you noticed a trend of all the civilized countries with high GDPs getting out of agriculture?

Kek anon don't be silly. In 20 years the planet is expected to have 2B more people in countries that have shit arable land. How do you expect them to get fed? Things like animal proteins will become very expensive and large grain/onions producers will make a killing

uhhh certainly not by chopping down the amazon rainforest. probably from new technology and new agricultural techniques. things usually dont stay the same
>>

>uhhh certainly not by chopping down the amazon rainforest
No need for that. La Plata Basin (Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay) can produce food to feed 1.5B people on its own with our current technology

Of brazil belobging to spain after the restoration war
>>
>>11931186
What I meant is that the Portuguese managed to keep Brazil because the Spanish defeated the Dutch for them. Without the Spanish the Dutch would have craved out all of Northern Brazil
>>
>>11931194
kek the Portuguese wouldn’t have even been at war with the Dutch if it wasen’t for the Iberian Union.

>kek the Portuguese wouldn’t have even been at war with the Dutch if it wasen’t for the Iberian Union.
The Dutch kept waging war against the Portuguese after they became an independent country. The Dutch just wanted their own empire and Portugal was the weakest target to carve an empire out of

SURINAME SUPERPOWER 2022

Lol no.

The Spanish failure to save Pernambuco, just like many colonies in the East Indies, was one of the reasons of the Portuguese restoration in 1640.
>>
>>11931432
>was one of the reasons of the Portuguese restoration in 1640
The Portuguese lost most of their colonies after 1640 (something that the Portuguese tend to forget on purpose). If they kept Brazil was because of the Spanish navy
>>
>>11931477
The Portuguese nobility accepted the Iberian Union on the premise that the Hispanic Monarchy would protect the Portuguese overseas empire in the first place. It's true that Bahia was recovered in 1625, but in 1630 the Dutch launched a much larger attack on Pernambuco, the wealthiest possession of Portugal, and conquered it. Spain was completely unable to save Pernambuco, just like many settlements and trade routes in the East which were continually attacked by the Dutch without retaliation.

For sure. Portugal was punching above their weight and could only project her power so far around the globe - they had to strategically give up some of their possesions.

Dutchoids also fail to metion that they were assisted by the English while the Spanish mainly left the Portuguese possesions defenseless - especially in Asia.
