Why is suicide seen as an unforgivable sin in Abrahamic religions like Christianity, Judaism, Islam? And why is it seen as based and virtuous in Eastern religions like Shinto and Buddhism?
>>11042470because chinks are soulless bugs, it's like letting a bug kill himself, their dead doesn't mean anything as they don't have souls
>>11042470Cause Orientals are a bunch of quitters.
>suicide is virtuous in Buddhism and ShintoI'm pretty sure it's forbidden to do so in Buddhism and Shinto just doesn't say anything about it.
I suspect that all versions of Judeo-Christianity that allowed suicide just had all their members die. Once you have the idea that the material world is lowly and the after-life is all that matters any true beleiver is going to want to kill themself.Suicide in a ritual fashion is often a way to trade your life for more dignity, so I would assume these religions value dignity above life.
A random series of events occurred leading one group to have a slightly different set of rules.
>>11042486ThisIf you believe the world is evil and salvation awaits in death, suicide is the next logical step. Gnostic / Christian priests had to call it a sin or else there death cults would be a bit too overtly sinister in their anti-life implications
>>11042470You are thinking of the Bushido code of the samurai, something they made up in the 1900s to encourage Japanese nationalism and it advocates suicide to avoid surrender or other dishonor. Its not really a religion.
>>11042479>>11042480Except that ancient Greeks, Celts, and Romans also had positive attitudes towards suicide. The suicide taboo is entirely an Abrahamic thing.>>11042483Buddhism is neutral about suicide. Shinto goes even further and says it's a good thing - that dying by suicide after failure and humiliation in life makes you a kami.
Fact: the bible says nothing, absolutely nothing about suicide.
>>11042470It's a method of control.>yes, paradise awaits you after death so don't worry about the hardships you face in this life.>w-wait no you can't just kill yourself, you need to work my field first!
>>11042692Neither does the Quran or the Talmud. Suicide only became a sin in Christianity, Islam, and Judaism thanks to St. Augustine, who "reasoned" that by the logic of the Bible it must be a sin.
>>11042470slaves must suffer and work.
>>11042695>>11042835Yet this logic didn't apply in places like China, Burma, or Japan despite those places also having a slave/peasant worker caste that the elites needed to stay alive and work.
>>11042470Because it takes courage to take your own life. Christians lack this courage as a genetic byproduct of inferior genes.
>>110426927th Commandment: Thou Shalt not Kill. This includes yourself.
>>11043196Wouldn't that mean they admire suicide because it's something they don't have the courage to do?
>>11042470Life is a gift from God and to throw it away insults Him.
>>11042486>Judeo-ChristianityDoesn't exist.>Once you have the idea that the material world is lowly and the after-life is all that mattersThis isn't what Christianity teaches...
Because then you would just kill yourself as soon as you got saved. It doesn’t make practical sense.
>>11042470God becomes a lot less powerful if you can just tell him 'fuckit and fuck you, im out'.Also in the east its not seen as based or virtuous, except in very specific circumstances.
>>11042470I'm pretty sure it's not "unforgivable" in Christianity. The only unforgivable sin is the blasphemy of the holy spirit. It's still seen as a sin but its on the same level as all other sins
It's not seen as virtuous to commit suicide in Buddhism. Shinto religions also have nothing to do with Suicide either. The whole seppuku thing comes from honor traditions held by the bushido code, where it was honorable to die in battle and thus in order to maintain honor as a warrior after you did something dishonorable was to take your own life. There's a numerous amount of reasons why this was fucking stupid, but it wasn't related to religion.
>>11043221Wrong. The commandments only apply to jews. YHVH wants you to kill non-jews, and you are a non-jew. This is why the Judeans killed all the Babylonians.
>>11043228No, because they're cowards, they belittle it as being the "coward's way out." They're essentially jealous that they don't have the balls like their pagan ancestors did.
>>11042701>Quran It does
>>11043340>the Judeans killed all the Babylonians?
>>11043343That's not how courage works, bro. you don;t scorn a soldier for going to war when you yourself are too cowardly to do so, you admire him. Same applies with suicide. And early Christians sort of were suicidal, in a way, it's well documented they put martyrdom on a pedestal, and many early Christians willingly volunteered to be crucified or fed to lions rather than give up their beliefs, because they wanted other Christians to be inspired by their deaths. A real coward would have rolled over and converted rather than face the lions. It freaked out the Romans how willing to die they were for their beliefs and caused them to think Christianity was some kind of death cult (also because their symbol, the cross, was an execution platform).
>>11043340That's not true at all, biblical law says not to murder "strangers that travel with you" as it calls non-Jews, it says to force them to observe Jewish law while in the presence of Jews, and to only kill in self defense, or if you're fighting a Canaanite squatting on your land, fuck those guys.
>>11043409Desist anon he's blinded by his hate of Christians or maybe he's LARPing as a pagan
>>11042470Real answer: it's a result of different conceptions of morality. Judeo-Christian religions have their morality centred around doing good deeds. And you forfeit the chance to do good deeds if you're dead. Whereas, the Japanese/Shinto conception of morality revolves around honour, so if you've dishonoured yourself, you're fucked, and the only way to redeem yourself/your family is ridding your dishonourable self from the earth. Buddhists don't really care much for morality (besides not stepping on ants or whatever); they're mostly just focused on achieving nirvana. So if it's not looking like you have a chance at reaching nirvana in this life, may as well start a new save and try again. I believe that Hinduism looks down on suicide though, because Hindus are meant to stick to their dharma and all that. So it's not all eastern religions.
>>11043426And yet, it's okay to kill your own children for not practicing sabbath. Cope harder, kike.
>>11042470Suicide, as name tells us, is murder of self. Now murder itself is not unforgivable per se, but since by the very nature of act the murderer doesn't have time to repent it's unforgivable by proxy.
But Abrahamics are obsessed with Martyrs
>>11043469No, you're not supposed to do that, Moses only killed the guy gathering sticks on the Sabbath to demonstrate all sin was equal in God's eyes. you;re totally ignoring the context of it all, I'd be willing to guess you probably didn't even read the bible. Or have ever talked to an actual Jewish person in your entire life, they never kill each other for working on the Sabbath in this day and age. When was the last time you read in the local paper of a Jewish guy getting killed for working on the Sabbath? Hell, most Jews don't even take their own laws seriously, a good portion of them eat pork now for crying out loud.
>>11043505>Moses only killed the guy gathering sticks on the Sabbath to demonstrate all sin was equal in God's eyes.Moses killed those retards for not obeying the rules. There's no need to consult a jew or reading Jewish cope (Talmud) it's obvious in the bible itself
>>11043505Bro, it was a fucking commandment.
>>11042843Asian religions have never had even a fraction of the fixation on the afterlife that christianity has had, retard.
Because weapons are allowed and you need to step up for yourself and the country as a military man when she hits the fan
Abrahamic religions has a law against it because the cursed life of a person who believes in that stuff is so horrific they would otherwise all do it. Especially since apostasy is usually not an option. In normal societies you obviously don't need laws like that.
>>11043483this is just some clever legalese way of thinking. it's taking an ethical and moral question and treating it like some sort of tax law question pondered over by cunning lawyers
>>11044268what if you're too disabled to step up as a military man? why is suicide still seen as sinful and taboo then?
>>11044582We are rational animals, and morality/ethics should be treated rationaly. If a suicider had time from start of the act to his death to repent he could be forgiven. Most of the time, he doesn't sadly.
>>11044575"O you who believe (who are âmenû)! Do not eat up your property among yourselves falsely (unjustly) except that it be trading by your mutual consent. And do not (commit suicide) kill yourselves (one another). Surely Allah is Most Merciful to you."An-Nisa: 29
>>11044651>And do not (commit suicide) kill yourselves (one another)The Arabic literally says "do not kill one another". The suicide part is implied via commentaries, it's not literally there.
