Design genius or overrated?

What do you think of his work?
>>
he was great.
a bit of a shstick
but the content is great the drawing is great, his whole shit is great
>>
>>446493
the style was unique at the time and surprisingly optimistic, easy to latch onto
>>
>>446500
this.

his art doesnt evoke an emotion in me that would justify his fame. yet I am very ready to accept his name belonging in the list of great influencial artists.
>>
Way overrated
>>
He was an excellent commercial artist, in that his style is instantly recognizable by pretty much anyone who lived before the year 2000, but I think his activism-focused work was a little pedestrian. He was clearly a passionate guy, and a lot of his work is extremely charming and fun, but I do feel it's a bit of a stretch to ascribe deep socio-political themes on a bunch of oddly-posing stick figures.

Some might see this as an insult, but I think his work makes excellent decoration -- and that's all.
>>
>>446493
I hate his gimmick. Same with Mr. Doodle or whatever. It's so boring to me and repetitive, I don't know how people don't get tired of it. But to each their own. I get that "technically" he's a good artist.
>>
he had a cultural significance, but not artistic significance although he left a lot of copycats which says something
>>
>>446500
>the style was unique at the time

His personal output was recognizable as his, but the late 70s to early 90s was also when graffiti as art and cartoon graphics with notably undeveloped drawing became all the rage.

You might not mistake Harding's doodles and lazy hand lettering for pre-Simpsons Matt Groening or Lynda Barry or Basquiat or Gary Larson or dizens of others who rode that wave, but they all flourished in during that era when not trying to follow traditional rules for what was traditionally seen as "adequate" artistic effort was seen as a positive feature, not just something you might succeed in spite of if you had good ideas.

In that context, much of Haring's work seems entirely devoid of any idea or message, in keeping with the whole graffiti ethos.
>>
>>446564
uh, harings ideas are pretty bald faced obvious

as is graffitti really

LMAO, stroke your goatee and take a puff off your Gitanes and tell us what the "obvious" message/idea behind picrel is, aside from "filling up space with inscrutable doodles for hipster faggots to nod knowingly over".
>>
>>446596
the message is:
but did you know you could even do this in art?
>>
>>446596
well, if you want to cherry pick through haring's work thats fine, but he literally has work that has words in it like, say, CRACK IS WHACK, and numerous identifiedable figures doing clearly identifiable things, people dancing, babies, people fucking, dogs barking, ovious antiwar imagery , anti nukes - just go take a look, sometimes its joyful sometimes its sad, sometimes its just weird like people are.

as to pic related, and similar style moves by haring, its in the tradition of Jean Dubuffet to say the least and really a pop exploration of ancient styles of stone rustication called vermiculation using human figures instead of pure linear abstraction. there are some buildings in downtown NYC he might have seen. or maybe he spent some time in Paris. Its smart, simple, bold, approachable art.

think ill go finish my gitane and give my beard some strokes.
>>
>>446493
I love seeing his art and style around places. Really cool shit it's a shame he died young.
>>
>>446493
One thing is certain. He got sodomised, he got aids and he died
>>
>>447178
more sex than you is also certain
>>
>>447178
this makes me sad
>>
>>446493
Why can't we have both?
>>

am I supposed to feel bad I didn't have many meaningless transient relationships with women or that I'm not a faggot?
>>
>>447237
you?
probably the first one cuz well, i mean, its pretty obvious
>>
Did he just copy Nazca lineart. All look peruvian. At the end of the day you have to put the work in even if you copy so I guess he deserved his fame.
>>
Great artist in a vacuum but he's the original sin of modern corporate graphic design
>>
>>446493
His art was definitely striking and unique He was a good artist I don't have much sympathy for aids after the monkey pox gay sex epidemic it made me realize that a lot of the propaganda around aids was actually the truth
>>
>>447253
lol his pictures use the same graphic stylings that can be found in ancient roman decoration, ain t no 'corporate' anything except that corporations hire smart designers sometimes
>>
The truth is simple but very striking for the time. Many would say that it is done in paint, but no one would believe that it was done in paint in the 80's
>>
>>446493
I see murals that look like his work when I go to the bad side of town.
>>
>>447237
Hell does not exist.

he was a satanic pedophile and a faggot. all of his work insinuates that.
he was even connected to the Rothschilds.
the art scene is full of satanic degenerates.
i went down the rabbit hole a couple years ago.
it boggles my mind that the "art" of pedophiles like this hangs in all kinds of schools and paediatric practices everywhere arouf the globe. even at my elementary school they had some of his paintings.
>>
>>448382
>satanic
So were all the people in the Bauhaus and yet people in this board still admire their work
>>
>>448382
>>448388

>>
>>448382

How is it a fucking rumor???
Just look at his art motherfucker... Its blatantly obvious.
Im not a christian, I reject all kinds of abrahamitic/jewish religion but theres no denying this shit is satanic.
Hes clearly mocking Christ. Not just that, in some of his paintings hes in my opinion alluding to satanic ritual abuse.
Now ask yourself why the fuck would a FAGGOT whos clearly into SATANISM autistically concern himself with and dedicate his artwork to "loving children" and all this childcare shit? add one and one together...
This guy was obviously a pedophile. A totally deranged individual and he probably did diabolic shit to get the elites to shill for his "art" so hard.

>>448391
get help
>>
>>448393
yes, why would an artist be concernde with christ imagery, which has been a staple of art imagery for a thousand years..... hmmm, why might an artist be interested in that?

you dumb ass cunt
>>
>>448393
>looks at symbolism of artist
>"hE iS a SaTaNiSt AnD a PeDoPhIlE"

you only put one and one together there, buddy. there is no fooling you!
>>
>thread immediately turns to schizofaggotry
I mean the image of >>448382 has a point with just how disturbing those particular works of his are but this is just egregious.
>>
>>448632
no, he doesnt have a point.
>>
>>448642
I do. How many of his paintings arent on the net? Probably 90%. I wonder how many exclusives that he made for his rich pedo friends there are
>>

I dislike his style and dislike the hype around it even more, but he seemed like a lovely man from the things I've read about him.
>>
>>446493
There is no such thing as a design genius.
Graphic design isn't art.
>>
>>448678
