A style of flag with jewish/masonic origin that symbolises "liberty & revolution"...no wonder it lacks any form of creativity or symbolism, jews have no soul

fun fact- the first example of the tricolour was the "Prinsenvlag" used by the Netherlands, where William of Orange ruled, who later became William III of Britain solely because he was funded by a jew called Francisco Lopes Suasso ("""Abraham Israel Suasso""")

Flags aren't meant to be read up-close. They're 20 feet in the air, blowing through the wind. I do think NAVAization has been a negative for flag design, having tiny plaintext on a flag is just obviously bad.

>>430454
You can have a non-abstract flag without a complicated heraldic-style shield. Consider the flag as a green field with two (significantly) larger swords pointing towards each other at the centre, over a wheat sheaf. Now it's far more recognisable as >>430477 rightly points out is beneficial, yet is still unmistakably related to the shield (which can be used on e.g. badges), all while still being unique (i.e. not a generic tricolour).

The 'no details' guideline by NAVA, to me, always meant 'no excessive, unimportant details', not 'if you can't draw it blindfolded then it's bad'. If it becomes unnoticeable when you blur the flag, it's probably an unimportant detail.

>>430561
Yeah, that'd be my instinct too. Only didn't to keep it as 'accurate' as possible to >>430419 (though I guess they may be daggers instead of swords?). I did try with just the tips touching as in the source, but that looked even worse.

If all that mattered were swords and wheat, I'd have them crossed in the centre of the blade and flanked by two wheats in a U (as laurel wreaths often appear on flags).
>>
>>430559
Generic and soulless
>>
>>430526
Flags serve to tell a story, to define what something is.
By being a purist "no text on flags" or "no coat of arms" cunt you are actively making flags worse.
Text belongs on an arms, arms belong on flags. It's that simple.
You don't need to see text from far away, infact flags are better if they have more details, things to make them special.
>>430419
This flag genuinely screams NATO, the shield in the middle and all
>>430559
I have no clue why you removed the sheild, you cunts would rather everything was sanitized instead of meaningful.

>>

>actually, literally, genuinely defending seals on a bedsheet

Immediately, and I do emphasize this, immediately fuck off, and preferably kill yourself.
>>
>>430566
Like it or not, the entire purpose of a flag is to be recognised from a distance. Even during medieval Europe, there was a clear distinction between heraldic items (e.g. shields, badges, seals) and 'vexillological' items (e.g. flags, uniforms). The rules for traditional European heraldry are designed such that it's nearly impossible to have two identical designs, and each design is pretty clearly distinguished. However, flags only became relevant during warfare, where you simply wanted to signal 'my side'. It is for this reason that you saw monochromatic banners so often: it's ludicrously easy to see. Modern flags, although their use has changed, still share much the same purpose.

>Flags serve to tell a story, to define what something is.
It is this very principle from which everything wrong emerges. Well, not wrong per se, but misplaced. Symbols serve to tell a story and define something, whether they show up as armorial bearings like European heraldry or printed onto products like modern corporate logos. I fully agree that symbols should be unique and interesting in design (unlike many corporate logos these days). Flags, however, are one step removed: they're symbolic OF that symbol and, as such, are also one step simplified, represented, or abstracted from the source.

NAVA's reasoning about details on flags is 100% valid, even if you don't like the more extreme conclusions drawn from it. Again, you need not restrict yourself to abstract tricolours. Antigua's flag, for instance, is very recognisable AND very clearly representative of a more detailed symbol. Same goes for the Union Jack. But they're both, by far, more clean, simple, and 'generic' than what you seem to be recommending.

You seem to be stuck in the idea that it's an either-or deal, where a simple flag means that every related symbol must also be simple. This is false. Consider the UK again: simple flag, complex heraldic symbols for every administrative unit (counties) and government body.

>>
>>431253
oh I like the flag but I was referring to this
>[...] though the official symbolic description adopted by the EU omits the reference to the "Western world"

the omission of 'the western world' was probably done for inclusionary reasons but to me that just exemplifies the steadfast decline in national pride and therefore the erosion of a sense of national identity, the latter of which is kinda conditional for a 'union'

moreover the flag is that of the European Union wherein the countries' consensus is that most of dominant history concerns 'the western world': take that away and you take away intended meaning of the flag
then that could easily be followed up by adding a muslim crescent moon or something
>>
>>431260
it still refers to the "peoples of Europe" though, that's pretty unambiguous

Tricolours made more sense in the past, and the simplicity of them still follows good design, but there's so many countries that its overused. Tricolour combined with symbols are much better.

Text on a flag says something about thr place, if it was just the art in the seal it would look vaguely fascist, the point if Mercury is that it's a former colony, my inspiration was US state flags.
I find that making the flsg of your country look like the flag of something it's supposed to be similar to better sells the idea to people, they already have an asociation for flags like that. It's all worldbuilding, good flags aren't perfect.

Also i fixed it up since then, seal is better proportioned and the grey is the same throughout.
The grey represents mercury, the least saturated planet, white is the beaming glow of the sun and the souls of the mercurians, the seal represents mercury both in that it's a circle and that it literally has mercury on it. The text is obvious, "forever forward" parallels australia's "advance, australia", ie mercury is the dolar system's australia, hard to live on, strong, stubborn people. the yellow also represents the sun, but more just the sun.
The smaller circles are meant to both represent provinces/states/regions and they combine with the seal to make it look like a port hole, ie you are looking at mercury through your window
