>>424279As someone on /g/ said in the US energy sector lots of the 'digital infrastructure' they depend on is hundreds of GB large VBA driven MS Excel files, so seeing 90s web design and stock graphics on company's Twitter is not completely unsurprising.
>>424280Realized it's an internet art project by some fruitcake, of course.
tropes i'm noticing with late 90s graphic design>sci-fi typefaces, Helvetica if you're trying to be tasteful>halftone shadows>rounded rectangles>vector graphics but mostly in the form of thin outlines>CGI made up of primitives, which isn't the same as being low-poly>italic text>biomorphism>basically talented people doing their best with beginner-level Photoshop techniques

I know 1.0 Blender's an example for 3d, but what about graphic design stuff from the era? I have no problem downloading a Windows 2000 virtual box, or, hell, buying an actual Windows 2000.

the best resource for y2k soul is graphic design books from the 90’s- early 2000’s and best of all they’re usually dirt cheap. reply to this post with stuff you like and i’ll recommend you a book or two. i’m tired of seeing the same stuff in every thread. Pic rel, it’s my collection.also follow evan collins on are.na
>>427954Which books do you recommend? Building up a list of good design books to buy.
>>427965I have a recommendation. Not the guy, but two books are the Dream Catalog and New Design Miami: The Edge of Graphic Design. The Dream Catalog is a catalog of products, but they should inspire late-90s early-2000s designs.
>>427954anything like the art in lovely sweet dream?it was a book that came with the ps1 game lsd dream emulator
>>427970these are the closest books i have to what you’re looking for. Fortunately for you, Osamu Sato put out an entire guide for making computer graphics which is public on the internet. Photoshop by Design teaches you how to make characters similar to the ones in the poster. Good luck!
>>427970>>427989also** (and this goes for everyone) if you want to make vectorheart backgrounds similar to the ones in this poster, I highly recommend this book. Its full of interviews with the people who invented the y2k metalheart and vectorheart aesthetic. It also comes with a disk of elements, video tutorials, and a psd for every work featured in the book.
>>427989>>427990Thanks! Might actually check out the vectorheart one
>>427954Do you have anything that combines digital and plant life? I've rarely seen some pics of pulsing plant lights or grassy y2k mixes, but can never find much. Got anything similar, even if just cyber y2k forests or something?
>>427990Can you upload the stuff on the disk? I don't think I'm gonna be able to buy this book

>>424227Can anyone explain to me why post-2000 y2k feels so different to pre-2000 y2k even though it looks the same?
>>429914Less 70s influence, more urban stylings? Less apocalypse, more hope? I mean until 2001 of course, then it seems like the most you get is some futurism and Japan doing its thing for a bit. You don't mean the revival, do you? I figure the difference was kinda obvious though, since most revivals are a mix of what came before and what's going on now.
>>429927No, I don't mean revival stuffThanks for explaining

>>430343XTREME
>>430343Early 90s? I can't really say, felt sort of like a repeat of the cheesy 80s style that's been building up, with bright pinks and yellows. But at the same time, what about raves? Hell, what about grunge? There was a big rebellious side to things, especially with music, and what I loved about it was that everyone handled it in their own special way. Late 90s? You got some people going hard in on white and/or black from different sides: you got that black for the punkish elements, the dark tech/apocalyptic feel, and on the other side, you have this optimistic retro-futuristic white and blue, or whichever other colors added in. A good mix between styles that feared the coming years and ones that eagerly awaited it. Forgot that they had urban styles in too, with skate culture and rap going strong. Also had those 70s throwbacks that were a lot more materialistic like the smileys, colorful swirls, the curves to the clothes, etc. I can't really pinpoint a single look to the era, but it at least felt as if the era was unsure of itself, unsure of the future, and each aesthetic was a sort of answer to that. Hope that doesn't sound too pretentious!
