It's fine, for the most part. Nothing really sticks out, the only concern is the image looks like someone tripping. Perhaps having the end of a tape indicating they won a race? Or don't bother, I doubt anyone will look that closely into the narrative.
I'm not a fan of orange, but I can't take points away for that.
>>
>>414699
Bluntly, it's awful.

I see what you're going for, you just didn't accomplish it. It's jarring and ugly.

Try using a nicer looking font, learn to use the distort tools more cleanly, and rethink the colors.

A lot of different font styles can work, but there needs to be more cohesion - an underlying grid or hierarchy system unifying the elements. This example is much more retro, but even brutalist designs have unifying elements.

Man, it's my first time on this board...and from what I can tell, you all just use asset packs and copy the same couple of people from instagram. No wonder DIY music fliers are all so generic and gimmicky. Do we really need hundreds of people making faux plastic wrapped designs, faked photocopy textures, and the like?

I don't even work in the industry or anything and I personally think I suck at design...but you guys are "good" in the most boring and generic ways I've ever seen someone be good at something.

Brushes are fine, but you're crossing a line when you decide not to come up with your own sets of glyphs, logos, icons, etc. Having your own custom-made asset folder is what will help you stand out in the industry.

also, when people who produce can use hundreds of different asset packs, people cant tell between a downloaded vector and an original one, plus it doesnt matter. The only people who care about original assets are retards who try to flex to other designers (also a tiny % of designers because most dont care/cant tell either)

>>
>>417969
I think your main issues here are readability, lack of cohesion and composition. The text on top is a bit hard to read, even when zoomed in, and some elements feel out of place, like that "DEAD" image and those white scriblings. The whole poster tries to give futuristic vibes, but those elements break them. Also, the large sphere on the center draws too much attention, and you probably want Miku to be the main motiff. But nice early 2000 vibes, reminds me of Deus Ex.

>>417994
Thanks, fren. Yeah, I noticed that too and already fixed it, but thanks for the heads up.

Forgot to reply about the educational content: just read a lot about designs you like, if you can find that material, watch some videos on the basics of composition, typography, color theory etc, and copy lots of posters and designs that you like and later apply the knowledge gained to your own work, it's the best way to learn IMO.

Is this done in Illustrator? I think you have some fine details in there that don't suit the artsyle, and you could either go for more realistic (increase the number of colors and shading, so the details like the highlights work better), or go for a more stylized, cartoony approach.

If you're thought is needing to add "definition", that seems to indicate you'd want to have more realistic renderings, but that seems pretty hard lol - it's just that there's a lot of midtones you'd have to add (not just shadows, midtones, highlights).

For freehand though, proportions look good, but it almost looks traced in a sort of rotoscoped way.

Tried for more realism by crossfading the edges and setting the shadows to "darken" rather than just blocking a darker colour.
It's a far more moderate Wirathu.

Still have the issue with shadows feathering outside objects onto the background and not leaving a clean line; I feel like this is a n00b error but I'm not sure the right way to fix it.

That's awful, but I guess you were just trying out tools and not trying to do anything in particular...

Ditch everything and use the pen tool if you'd like to draw in Illustrator. That and the occasional shapes + shape builder tool. It's very easy once you're used to these three very simple tools. I then use Photoshop to add colour and various effects since it offers more possibilities and I'm simply more used to it.

very cool effect, any tutorials to achieve this look?
>>
>>419716
I love it actually, but since it's relatively simple, I think how this ties into other graphic & branding elements will be what make or break the design.

What's the logo for specifically? The name makes me think of a VST or some sort of software plugin.
>>
>>419684
>pen tool
As a Photoshop guy (some Illustrator use here and there), I've always resisted the pen tool. But it's superior for most types of masks, outlines, shapes, drawings - you name it.
>>
>>419732
They're both a little busy, the names are a little long, but not sure how much control you have over that.

I prefer the top logo's logo part (not the LTDC or the really long title) since it's simple, unique, and evocative of cell mitosis (I believe that's what you were going for?). But it's a little too cutesy, especially the hearts.

The leaf designs don't really match between the two logos either, as well as fonts and line strokes, but the theme is interesting. (Honestly, not a fan of any of the type really.)

I'd preferably ideate and conceptualize more along a more prominent leaf theme, but not sure what time constraints or client constraints you have.
>>
>>419759
I don't have much of a choice considering the title, but I agree the hearts look a little too cute, but I think a more realistic icon makes it even busier, I'm not sure

a collage of too much random uninteresting crap

for logomark create black-and-white 2 color shape framed inside a (imaginary) square (for usability in varied layouts) and draw it so clear and recognizable it would be instantly legible stamped on a small coin.

never depend on multiple shades, specific color or graphical effects like shadows or gradients to convey meaning of the logo, that's what the shape must do entirely on it's own

There is a lot to get through, so let's just cut to the basics. I'm not going to mention the cleaning up required in the vector art, because I assume this is just a first draft anyway. And that you will fix any such issues when the client is satisfied with the design.

Top one:
Won't work in B/W. I assume as they are a research lab they will print this on every paper they use, and those rarely use colored printers in my experience. You need more contrast and break up the shapes with some white/ negative space. You also don't need to put color on everything, the text at the bottom I would suggest you should keep black or some form of darker gray.

The typography needs a lot of work, spacing and kerning is horrible, and the text isn't even centered properly.

If you are going to use a mark in your logotype, I would suggest not messing too much with the LTDC. Currently it looks like you have two marks and it makes it very busy on the eyes.

You are also mixing sharp edges and very round shapes in your mark, and I don't think you pull it off very well. It just gives off a mixed feel.

I also wouldn't arrange the logo in such a top-down manner. It will make it very hard to use on websites and such. My attached pic is how I would try to sell it to the client, just a quick mockup. And if you are going to use a mark I would just make the LTDC clean and not connect up the D and C at all.

Bottom one:
Much better, am I right to assume you looked at other work before you did this? Because it's very similar to a lot of pre-existing stuff when I just google something like "nature lab logo". It's not a bad thing per se, but it does make it a bit generic.

I would again add some separation in the fold of the leaf to make it read better as B/W, maybe make the bottle just a black outline, but that's whatever.

The typography is the real criminal in this one. Once again you have a lack of spacing and fairly shoddy kerning. Let the separate objects breathe.

My two cents.

Just saw this comment, and the fact that your client already leaned towards that design. Here's my suggestion on how to make it more friendly on the eyes.

Less objects, remove the background color, change the core to something simpler, or at least just a single object, give the leaf some room to breathe with negative space.

Just a suggestion.

did you learn design formally? I do things 100% by guts and never studied any theory and want to improve
>>
>>419800
Looking a lot better anon. Consistent styling, line widths, removing the hearts all make it look better. Maybe that inside shape (I'll call it the "bowling pin") could be somehow made to "fit" inside the larger shape more cohesively, but it's looking good.

>>419780
Looks cool, but the heavy, large grain detracts from this, personally.

>>419791
>>419793
Personally I like that first version of the design more, but very clean mockups. The only possible negative of the first design is the gradient almost implies there might be something in the water to color it, but it looks cool still.
>>
>>419811
Thank you.

No, I didn't learn formally. But since I at times need UI/UX for my work I have picked up a couple of books on the subject to learn more about typography and color theory. Though most of what I know is from just looking at other people's work and then trying to incorporate it into my own designs. That way you really start to understand why what they did works and more importantly where you can use it in the future.

Your gut instinct and especially your eye for what works and doesn't work will get better with experience. You can't imagine the level of cringe I feel when I look back at some of the first logos I made...

I'll never be a good designer, but I think it's fun to just mess around.

Yes. The brief was for high-end water priced at $6 a bottle.

>Tone/Perception

This particular audience is going to respond well to the clarity of the water, its simplicity, purity, and crispness through a high-end design that lets the water speak for itself. At the price, they are looking for a premium product.

By the end of the weekend will have finished the copywriting and then try to nail down a label.
>>
>>419940
i much prefer this one. a lot more obvious it's water.
imo something about the black labeling and subdued design reminded me more of cologne presenting itself as sexy.
>>
>>419940
I too prefer this bottle for the brief. It seems more focused on purity. Everything looks good. A bit too clean to be considered creative maybe, but then again that's what you'd want from a high end bottle.

>>419938
The vector shape in the middle of that just seems out of place. The bottle itself just gives me strong alcoholic vibes. Looks more like Gin or a whiskey bottle.

>>419936
I don't hate the idea, but the manufacturing would be a nightmare. Likely wouldn't fly for a $6 bottle. Unless you plan to do it with a single sticker with transparent background, but that would look like ass.

>>419891
This looks good, but again the darker background doesn't exactly scream "pure", and the bottle still isn't working imo.

>>419791
Looks real nice, I guess my complaint here would be that the imagery of it getting darker and darker would make you think it's getting more and more dirty every filtration. Maybe that's just me overthinking it.

>>419793
In any case your current designs are a big improvement over this imo. This was extremely basic and didn't really give the customer any urge to even approach the bottle.
