Stupid questions thread / Questions that don't deserve their own thread

I'm trying to blur the eyes/nose on a movie in after effects. Tracked motion, applied to null object, using tracking info to drive an adjustment layer on top of eyes/nose. Due to lighting and movement, tracked movement is not precise enough, so I'm tweaking the shape and position to follow the face's perspective/position changes. I've activated keyframes on Mask Path, Mask Opacity (for when blur is not needed) and Position, see pic related.
I'm scrolling trough the video and adapting the mask's shape/position as needed, 30 seconds of footage in, I preview my work and to my surprise the mask has changed shape from what I originally set it as, and basically all my work carefully shaping the mask to the subjects face is gone. It's close to what I shaped it, but different enough to fuck me up. What am I doing wrong? What else do I need to keyframe so I actively lock the masks shape/size as desired?

tl;dr how do I lock an adjustment layer's mask's shape/size per keyframe?
homemade porn?
It's a fun little project, but if you want to get technical, then yes.
I think your problem is keyframing the position instead of just the path (you can move the whole mask at once, just alt click the mask point with a square around).

>how do I lock an adjustment layer's mask's shape/size per keyframe?
not entirely sure what you mean by this but maybe changing the keyframes to HOLD keyframes (select the keyframes and Ctrl+Alt+Click on them), that way they won't animate in-between and just change to the new position at the keyframe
Can windows fonts be imported into creative cloud?
where to find downloads for asset packs? like GFX database, ezra cohen, blk market, etc.
Thanks fren, by adding a keyframe to the scale my issue was solved but I'm sure your tip will come in handy. Censoring is fun! I'm amazed with the program, and I've barely scratched the surface.

thanks, I ended up falling down the rabbit hole of vk boards. is cgpeers/cgpersia much better than that?

Yes, I have a question...

How can we improve this board?
Can someone explain how Sam's CRT filter in this video works ? it sort of like cuts into an object when it moves, if that makes sense.
I wanna know how to do this effect.

best way to approach making new portfolio?
i have lots of works but they are pure dogshit with no case studies, mostly just photo manipulation.
how much projects is minimum on a portfolio? how u did it? can i do it in a month?
College or job?
job, fuck college
College helped me get a job
i finished college, now i have paper ''multimedia technologies'' bachelors
>no qualifications
>zero experience
ngl, it's not looking too good.
I went from
>community college - associates degree in graphic design
>designer at a local banner/shipping shop
>designer at a much bigger t-shirt and sign company

Each job looked at what I did before and thought I was worth investing in, and it paid off for both them and myself

cgpeers is totally worth having an account, registration opens each 1st/14th of the month if I'm not mistaken

Some threads ago some anon said Sam used a real CRT/VHS setup
> it sort of like cuts into an object when it moves, if that makes sense
not really
>I wanna know how to do this effect.
Get a nice texture (you can easily torrent the Ezra Cohen ones)
Create an Ae comp with your footage and the texture
Duplicate the texture
On one texture layer, apply curves/levels and pump up that contrast. Hide the layer and rename it as map or something
Apply a displacement map to your footage and set the layered you just named map as the map.
Put the untouched texture on top of everything and change it's blending mode to Add. If the effect is too much, lower it's opacity

suspiciously based
Forget about your old photo-manipulation stuff, just create a new piece for your portfolio every day. Whatever. Have a friend with a band? Make a show poster for him (even if there's no show).
A month from now you will have 30 pieces, 5 of them should be decent enough.
gratz! you now have a portfolio

Got an affinity designer question
I just recently got a graphics tablet and have been mucking around, i have never drawn on a PC before so its all a bit new. I am trying to figure out the best way to do shapes like pic related. I know its cringe, but its the best example on google I could find of the kinds of shapes, strokes with sharp edges and varying thickness.

So currently, I have been using the brush and I can get the look I want in most cases, but I would like to have it actually be a vector shape, than just a single stroke. So the only solution I have found at the moment is to do the stroke I want with th ebrush, then use the pen to go over the outlines. Am I crazy or must there be a simpler way to turn a brush stroke into a shape? OR like, brush wit ha shape?
Maybe I'm just not used to it but the pen feels clunky, I want to be able to draw my shapes, basically, is that a thing I can do with affinity designer?
What are some good things to include in a portfolio?
Things you're good at. Things you have experience doing. Things that were successful. A resume is your shot to show off what you can do. If you just copy someone else's work, then it's meaningless. That's why student work from a gd design graduate is better than the xeroxing that goes on here, by try hards and pajeets who think they can cheat their way in.

Best advice:
10-12 pieces.
Simple write up to explain the work, and it's success, if any. If it's student work, then detail what your goal was.
Be able to tailor your book to a specific job - designers have always done that. I can throw a pretty quick book of photo editing together, or a page layout one, or an illustration book, depending on what jobs I'm chasing. Back in the day, designers would have physical portfolios that used 3 ring binders, so they could swap work in and out, for updating or tailored for a specific job. Now, just generate PDFs for each application.
For everything else, set up a simple website.

Just use your head. If you apply for a job in an ad agency as a junior designer, they're not really going to care about glitch graphics or Blender renders. They want to see you can work on anything you get assigned, and have at least working knowledge of the basics - page layout, image editing, and vector elements.

And, don't be an ass. Don't put metal album covers in for a corporate gig.
just use Adobe Illstrator
Whats a good vector design app for tablet?
where I can find graphics recourse for photoshop?? like textures, vectores, ect.

Anyone know what these red frames mean in vegas?

not ideal but a workaround: instead of dropping it in your open file, drop it as a new tab, then copy paste it
>not ideal but a workaround: instead of dropping it in your open file, drop it as a new tab, then copy paste it
I know about that, but when i'm dropping like 30 pics to make a collage and shit that method is slow as fuck.
God fucking damn Adobe cunts for still having this problem after over a fucking decade.
I've been using Photoshop for years, and I don't know of a single way PS upscales an image on import, or dragging into the layer from the desktop. The only way an image is upscaled is if you do it intentionally.

Now, considering this is 4chan full of people in any other context would have people saying "No WAY someone could be that fucking stupid", I'll assume your dumb ass is dragging a low res image (473x700 is low res) into a high res documents, and scaling the image using the bounding box handles before hitting return, because your chimp brain thinks PS is magic, or you're so dumb you just click on things randomly with no clue what anything is supposed to do.

To be clear here, - a 473x700 image is either going to be really small on a 2000x1500 page (especially if the smaller image is 72 dpi because you took it off the web, and you used the default page PS makes for you at 300 dpi). It will never upscale into anything but blurry.

Do you even know what DPI means? I have to assume you don't here.

TL;DR Read the fucking manual, and get high res images to work with, for fuck's sake.
>Whining about Adobe when "load Images Into Stack" exists...

I mean, what do you do all day, poke at PS like a chimp poking at an anthill with a stick? I bet you've never even looked in the Script menu, but here you are, whining like a little bitch because your potato computer can't handle 30 layers.

Did it ever occur to you to actually learn how Photoshop works, and what it's tools are?

That's the answer I need.
So I need to change original DPI to web default that is 72. Thanks.

I like coloring in lewd lineart as a hobby, but in this latest case, just after I finished one, I found a version at a much higher resolution.

Is there any quick way to color in the new one based off my earlier work in photoshop? Or would it be better just to start over? I still have my old work saved on individual layers for the three colors used in this example.

Also, on a side note, is there a better way to do this than manually lassoing everything of one color for a layer? Everything I know about photoshop (what little there is) has been self-taught, and I'm definitely a chimp-brain.

You either do it the proper way in Ai with the pen tool or lower the detail on your autotracing

You can try applying a neural style transfer with ebsynth or one of the many online ones
What is a good free vectoring program that let's you work in layers? I'm trying to trace an image
I'm trying to print some shit but no Cyan comes out. It's in CMYK but it won't print right neither as jpeg or PDF exported from Corel. It's a picture of some greenery and sky made slightly transparent. What could be the reason?
Corel or Illustrator
>What could be the reason?

I've worked in and with prepress for more years I want to admit around here, but if there's one constant, it's they either will not accept Corel files, or they tack on fees to convert them to other apps to get them to print correctly. Corel files clog imagesetters, they're a pain in the ass.

Export the file, and print it from another app. Also,. don't use Jpeg for CMYK files. Use uncompressed tiff or psd. Even Gimp would be a better app to use to print, over Corel.

The type "bible" would probably be The Elements of Typographic Style by Robert Bringhurst.

If you're looking to do Mucha style lettering, then you need to dive into and study Art Nouveau. That's a completely different rabbit hole than conventional type design, as they broke away from conventional style and made up font styles based more on aesthetics and less on legibility and construction - and much of it was hand drawn, as well.

The same mindset was behind the poster style art of the 60's. by guys like Mouse & Kelly, Moscoso, and Rick Griffin, who took a lot of Art Nouveau elements and modified and expanded on it further - and much of it was also hand drawn.

It's not a bad path to go down, but you have your work cut out for you. I'd learn the basics of font construction, then dive into Art Nouveau and start trying to design type that fits whatever aesthetic of a poster you're working on. It's gonna take some time and skill to get there. If you're looking for a book of "rules" on that kind of thing, it doesn't exist. Study both the Art Nouveau period and the art rock period of the 60's and 70's, and try it yourself.

Pic is a poster by Stanley Mouse. Entirely hand lettered, but you can glimpse what fonts he used as a basis. Guys like Stanley had no computers, no typesetting machines, and were using old printing presses to make posters with, so it was really only possible to hand draw the plates.
I think I messed up the link somehow. Let me try again:

This is the video I am studying to get better on After Effects: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFXRgZjf-is

how and where do I make a portfolio? I've been doing GD as a hobby/side income for years and I'm currently looking for work. I'm trying to recreate this effect.
Can anyone tell me the technique used in this rock texture effect or even maybe recognize the texture itself. It's really old and I assume it could even be a default for some program.
If not the main ask is what kind of texture and what kind of effect allows for ,in this case, the cracks to overlay almost black regardless of the text's color.
In photoshop is there a way to use a layer as a mask? I have a bunch of old semi-transparent graphics with a black background that I'm trying to mask out using black&white+curves. Like this but the mask as a layer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-Nhgq0QeNE
Looks like Photoshop bevel and emboss with a texture added to the layer style. Could be one of the legacy patterns, "bubbles" is a pretty good match
It isn't bubbles I don't think. The thing is that even if it was I don't know how to make a blue pattern like bubbles blend so well in with every color. The patterns always make things foggier because there aren't transparent.
The fact that this is so vibrant despite the texture on top must mean something more complicated is going on there. Because you can't bevel a texture, so whatever is used not only manages to keep the color vibrant but also retains the texture's pure black.
File: texture 2.png (30 KB, 160x160)

btw, this is the pattern, as I got it from cutting and stitching the letters, if it reminds anyone of anything. If not default it should be not far off, it's 20 years old at least.

And to prove it works. I did this with Luminosity 100% for the pattern and then a full choke inner glow on top to bring the colors back. Mostly trial and error. Also it didn't tile perfectly but that can be fixed.

what's the name of the effect they used in the Sonic Riders ost cover art? everythng's white but it looks cool how do i replicate thsis?
what is the correct term for a random displacement of pixels, perhaps according to a gaussian curve?
kind of like a guassian blur, but for each pixel in the new image: the source pixel is picked at random from some given radius around it, and statistically more likely to be closer than further away

the effect would be basically a frosted glass effect, and I know I've seen it many times, I just have no idea what it's called
I could simulate it with raytracing a noisy glass surface or even just programming it by hand if I were really determined, but it's got to be some obvious bullshit filter that everybody knows about (not a graphic design person, hence my ignorance)

googling for "photoshop scatter" just gives me a bunch of "I don't feel so good Mr Stark" effects that are not even remotely it

thanks for any assistance
what I'm NOT looking for is a blur with a texture added to it, or something that's actually trying to be a frosted glass effect per se.

I just want something that has the effect of taking existing pixels and shuffling them around, with a statistical preference toward small displacements
its just black line drawings inverted and put on 'screen'

>use a layer as a mask
Yes, it's called a Layer Mask
does anyone know how to directly print onto a jewel case like pic? or any CD duplication services that would do this
You need a custom printer/screen printing for that. Very pricey, not many shops have one or willing to fuck with it. I know Unified in LA has done it, but they shop that out, not sure who does it for them.

Most big printers can handle custom jobs, but because that needs a lot of set up, you're gonna pay out the ass just to get ready to make any.

If this is a small order, like 10, then talk to a t-shirt shop and see if they're willing to cut screens to make one. I've only seen a handful of CD cases like that, and one designer who had it done on a large scale, and he said it wasn't easy, or cheap.
ok thanks
So I literally just started learning how to use After Effects a few minutes ago.

I tried googling, but I'm not sure how to word this question to find the right answer. I've got my comp with my background and some dropped-in premade fire asset. I can duplicate the animated asset, but I'm not sure how to change the timing on it so they're not both sync'd together.

Also, can you stack expressions? I'm using the loopOutDuration but I'd like to slow the animation down and I'm not sure if there's an expression for that.

And last, if I'm going to be exporting for use as an overlay in streaming software, is there a best format for that? I'm assuming it will export with transparency, but I've never done this before.

How do i make normalmaps?
i am working in blender and i vaguely remember watching a video that mentioned some sort of formula for calculating the correct size of a PBR texture. i have nodewrangler setup so that i can import the textures fine but i usually just end up messing with the scale on the vector map until it looks good. does anyone know what this formula is?
idk if this will work, but you can try and see:

1 - Duplicate the layer
2 - Apply the threshold effect, adjust as necessary
3 - Use it to drive alpha channels in AE or, in Photoshop, use selective color to select black/white and use the selection as a mask on the original layer

Look up skeuomorphism

Idk about formulas, but maybe you're talking about texel density? As in properly scale textures according to object size in a given scene.

Thanks anon, looks interesting.
i really can't remember what it was for exactly, i remember hearing it and then vaguely remembering it as i was working with these PBRs. i watched a few more videos about PBR texturing and it seems that most people just kinda tweak the scale until it looks good. so as long as there is nothing wrong with that, i will probably not worry about formulas since that just makes it a bit more complicated
They've been "slipped" which means they are out of sync from the audio. Also wtf kind of timeline is that!?

Stop talking like a fucking retard.
How was this board even born?
what is it called when you cut an image from a video like this?

None of these are images.
what is it called then? cropping out video and inserting it somewhere else
I think you're getting closer. Maybe now you're equipped with the knowledge to find out yourself.
Cropping parts of a video onto other videos is really common, so you'd think that someone else would have looked it up.
What was preventing you from finding it on search sites before was that you were using another common term used in video editing software ("cutting") in a context where it's not often used.
I'm just looking for the term used (if there is a term used). I know next to nothing about video editing
In that case, I'm not going to give you the impulsive answer.
Download Natron or AfterEffects and read through their documentation (watch some tutorials on youtube) and learn about it. Fucking learn a single fucking thing in your entire life instead of piecing together your whole fucking world from titbits on a forum.
jesus dude, what an insufferable faggot you are. i just wanted to know the term out of curiosity; not asking anybody to spoon feed me an entire subject. I have zero desire to learn video editing, which is why i asked in a qtddtot in what seems like the appropriate board
Green Screen

Could be one of those.
it's rotoscoping, thanks
You're getting the dose of what you are reflected back at you. Have a good one, retard.
It wasn't rotoscoping. Look at him responding with more ignorance because of what you did:
You're a retard.
I have a dose for you right here doc

What is a good laptop for 2d graphic design
Most laptops with top tier color gamut also come with top tier gpu's but since i only do 2d graphics i feel silly paying a premium for a gpu id only use 5% of
anything with at least 16gb of ram and never pick a 1366 x 768 laptop
When I open a pic in Photoshop, cut it and paste it in a different pic, adjust its size and then set it, the borders get blurry as fuck. I suppose is antialiasing in effect.
Can I disable that somehow?
I'm using CS3 because I didn't care much back when I downloaded it, but if a more recent version has that fixed, I'll go get one.
It's because it's raster graphics. If you want sharp images regardless of resolution you have to use vectors.

What is the most eyecatcing, noticeable 2 color scheme possible? I'm making a custom velcro embroidery patch to mount on a special gun and I want the warning message to be EXTREMELY NOTICEABLE. So I don't shoot my foot or my hand off, of course.

What's the ideal color for the warning text and the patch background?
I know nothing about graphic design, and this vectors term is completely alien to me, to be quite honest with you. Guess I'll have to look up some info on it. Thanks Anon.
I'm just trying to make the title screen for a ROM Hack, lol.
IIRC black and yellow, as in the warning signs you included in your post are among the most eye catching contrast combo. That being said, red is used for danger because it's wavelength means that out of all the colors we see, this will be the least scattered due to dust/snow/smoke in the air.
HELP! My psd file got corrupted into a black screen, I think I have the temp file but I'm by trying to recover it by changing the file extension and it's not working, what can I do??
How can I remake/outline a logo that only exists on paper?
I thought about scanning it, and then using I don't know what program, outline it on another layer.
Any guides on how to do so?
inkscape (free), adobe illustrator (pirate)
I'm tempted buying refurbished iPad pro from amazon. I want the portability to sketch on the go using app and save it so I can work on them later.
is there any free version of photoshop? I don't need the latest version, i thought they made cs2 free a few years ago.
Just google 'photoshop cs5 or cs6 portable'
thanks anon!
