Back when design wasn't infected by the globohomo and tech was seen as a 'hope' for the future and actually looked futuristic, unlike the flat/minimal style we see today

Don't know what fuck globohomo is but is sure solved the horrendous problem of everything looking futuristic. What's with people on this board romanticizing y2k shit anyways?

How 90's/Early 2000's is this fit? Any good?
>>
loving these, keep going guys.

also this style is getting a "comeback" of sorts. lots of hipster electronic music venues do posters in this sort of way, but usually it's done by "artsy" people not actual graphic designers so you can tell that they're not really experts in their fields and make naive tacky copies of this style. it's STILL nice though, better than nothing.

normcore pro ultimate opioids & meth dealer SE 2019
>>
>>410979
Thanks. I updated the hat because I remember heaps of people used to wear this back in day at least in my circles. Ultimate pro drug dealer core is definitely apart if the look but want to move away from norm/2019 tier and more 90s & 2000's. I think I need to add a walkman or something, the only other accessories I can think of is a raver dummy/pacifier for now.

Dude many music videos and commercials were basically softcore porn. Spice Girls in late 90s was basically whoredom marketed and made accessible to 10 year olds.

I find it at least cool that it's brought in so much attention to the aesthetic. For all the weird organizational craziness, there's still a lot of design books and photos that would otherwise be lost to time without it.
They can do what they want with the resource, just like we can do what we want with it. Don't really see the problem, unless you're super sensitive about what they're doing with it. Do what I do and just stop caring so much

Anyone else think that the current Y2K revival is kind of boring? It's more cohesive than the original version, but that also means most of its quirks or elements at the edge of the scene are being sanded off, like it's a corporate design language that doesn't actually belong to a single corporation. There was more to it than silver holographic jackets and the Ferrite Core font.

Plus, what does this style actually represent in 2021, other than nostalgia for itself? One of the major themes was of the year 2000 looking forward to the year 3000; trying to bring that now is like trying to bring back the bicentennial themes of the 1970s.

Yes, it's also restricted to digital media, you don't see is applied to mobile devices, at least not yet, and you don't see things like this >>412062 pop up in major cities
I'm aware of that one bar in New York called Barcode or something, but that's certainly an exception
>Plus, what does this style actually represent in 2021, other than nostalgia for itself?
For me it's the accessibility that wasn't there in the late 90s
You couldn't have done all of it with free software on an average home computer when you were very young; because it was futuristic, it was was about the cutting edge of digital art at the time
But today you can get into it with free software and resources pretty easily
Which also has the drawback of potential oversaturation of poorly made content, but then again crap did exist back then too
>One of the major themes was of the year 2000 looking forward to the year 3000
More towards the future in general
And actually, the idea of space exploration is becoming more popular again (not that is was gone entirely, just not as prominent), so I can see that a driving factor, just like Y2K itself brought it back from the 60s/70s after it became less popular in the 80s and early 90s
And with VR becoming more popular, there's an inspiration too

We just got out of a 90s revival and the 80s stuff never left. E-boys and E-girls are just trying to pick and choose what they like since they weren't there for much of it, and a lot of the appeal does seem sort of ironic. It's popular because there's a sense of it being so corny and dated, and people nowadays love being irony poisoned.
Any revival will try to have things from the present mixed with the past, or not be a true representation. It makes sense. It's just such a shame, since if the world was in a positive attitude, or some breakthrough happened, the spirit of y2k would be back instantly.
I think the biggest reason for all the nihilism is companies draining the internet of its culture and promise that it had back in the late 90s, and all the negativity surrounding data security and social media.
