is it really the best thing artists can do in 2020? when is this visual horror going to stop? you can't get much uglier than that.
>>
Yet you cannot replicate it.
>>
>>398534
it's very hard to make 4 shapes and 2 lines in illustrator, at least 5 years of studies to realize that.
>>
>>398535
>What are proportions, harmony, color, value
Prove it. Draw a person pooping all over my post. Shouldn't take more than 3 minutes to draw less than a dozen shapes and lines. I feel like every time someone bashes this style, turns out they cannot actually do it.
>>
>>398536
I just told you it was very hard, I can't do it, are you retarded?

it requires no skill, no creativity and can be done by anyone for x$ per commision. it is going nowhere.
>>
>>398536
It is so good and hard that this style is everywhere made by a huge range of people and is so unique that you can't tell artists apart.
Go dilate

Other than the color scheme, which is meant to be fun and inviting, all four illustrations in OP's post have a different style. You have terrible eye for detail if you cannot discern the differences and think they all look like.

I'm not against these styles - there is something to learn in most things. I did this in about 25 minutes... nothing great, but I really wanted to do something vector-ish and these pics inspired me.
>>
>>398555
Did you create a sketch first and then vector over it? Curious what your process was. It looks pretty good, especially for 25 minutes. The style kind of reminds me of Kim Possible.
>>
>>398556
I just made rough shaped, refined the points and adjusted them to what worked. I was thinking that pink-haired gal from E-surance, but Kim too. Used Inkscape.
>>
>>398556
Like collage technique - Just throw out some rough shapes, push them control points to where you like them - takes almost no time to get done
>>
>>398558
One can make a shitload of changes, relatively quickly, like this - just use the handles, don't get too anal about precision or anything.

Interesting! I saw another artist using Inkscape and seems like it’s better than Adobe Illustrator for free-form drawing. In Illustrator there is too much fiddling needed with brushes to be enjoyable. Usually I draw my illustrations in Photoshop using a pixel brush and then block out the shapes in vector. Drawing makes it very difficult to make changes however because with vector you could just adjust the handles for a different curve, while in Photoshop I have to draw them over and over.

Sometimes, I'll make a really tight geometric form, then transfer into GIMP for the detail painting - I have a tendency to do everything backwards.

Also, this is the finished cartoon - spent quite a while on it, but I was having fun. I am no manga dude by any means...
>>
>>398545
Its two styles. One I call "corporate toonboom" and the other I call "SJW flat." Both totally soulless.
>>
>>398545
Yea, keep telling yourself that. Probably you are learning this shit fad style that in a couple of years nobody will want to look at
>>
>>398589
I will. I've been a professional designer for over ten years. OP shits on other creatives claiming he can do better. Creatives that work at Facebook and Youtube and are in the top 1% in terms of salary. Dunning Kruger in full effect.

I landed a £5k project by submitting this as a direction for a potential full set of infographics- never worked in vector like it before.

Im actually really enjoying it - quick and playful workflow, outcomes have a real punch and still kinda challenging distilling things down to component shapes and flat colours without relying on my usual photoshop manipulation techniques.
>>
>>398630
Nice textures. And good job on landing the project with a single character.
>>
>>398630
You did those four "They Watch" iterations, didn't you? Regardless, this is nice too!
>>
>>398635
thanks dude, what I submitted had some hand made type and other stuff but was more of a case of right place right time. my housemate works for the organisation and mentioned they might need someone and I just got in there with a proposal before they decided put a public callout.
im slightly nervous as its a fair step up $ wise from anything ive done before but its going well - I usually rely on textures massively for photoshop/ digital collage style work so its been interesting having to use them real sparingly.

>>398638
nahh that wasnt me but those are nice bits of vector wrangling

I dont like this corporate style but its what it is. As with every style ive seen people with skill and talent making it work. The style itself is related to print era popular styles that were made to take advantage of reduced color and registration issues. Be a pro, go beyond stylistic preference and see it for what it is.

is it professional suicide to have a blonde haired guy anymore or what
>>
>>399263
You can have white people but they need to be very old, as on the picture you reply to, to show that white people are on the way out.
Otherwise, no.
A baby with blonde hair and blue eyes would be career suicide.

Glad I saw this thread because I didn't want to make a new one:

It's been at least an entire year or two since I first saw this stuff outside of Facebook (apparently they "standardized" it to the point where its this easy to copy) and now that I'm finally in the position of making art for a brand of mine I'm feeling like the next thing is just about to happen and this "alegria" (Facebook's name for their art guidelines, which again is the genesis for everyone else doing it) crap is on its way out, or at the very least isn't hip anymore. What's next /gd/?

I think I get how I could translate this to an online medium. That or my mind went somewhere else when I saw this stuff and I came up with my own stupid mickey mouse thing I'm going to be very embarrassed by in an hour or two
