>>393698now what you posted looks like neo-y2k ngl. i personally am not a fan.
>>393698Neo y2k isn't so bad, I think it's just that people want more of that 90s spice to even things out, rather than having the tail end of 2001 and on, right?
Would it be good to have some sort of resource/reference pack made? These threads pop up all the time, and part of the reason people complain about new y2k art is because finding references for the style is a lot harder than for other aesthetics. Would it be a good idea to have some link to all the refs in future OPs?
Normies call it y2k aesthetic, when it's the Designers Republic style
>>393734I don't know, I love their stuff but there's so much to the era and aesthetic that doesn't fit neatly into one pile.
>>393932What font is that, for the white writing on the right? Hell, what font is that below it, too?
>>393933OCR-A
>>393935Huge thanks bro, do you know the one in bold that shows up in different colors? I always see it on 90s marketing too
Anyone know a good resource on finding .pdfs of various artbooks that showcase this sort of thing? Libgen is pretty dry on that front
>>394143Honestly wish I knew, too
how make this
>>394249CAD tools, I guess
>>393731>>393698What is Neo y2k? Is it Y2K that's more 2002-2003 (post-9/11) rather than 1999-2001 (pre-9/11)?
>>394498It's a return to y2k aesthetics (sort of like how the 70s came back in the 90s, or how the 80s won't fucking die), but because of people trying to find the true essence or liking a certain part of the era, it tends to be different sometimes. Think of it like how the 90s took the 70s sci fi and dance aesthetics partially because of Dee-lite, but didn't take the more boring clothing trends since they didn't fit. That's why when people make neo-y2k stuff, it sometimes has a tinge of modernity or tries to go hard on the more unique space-ness of it, rather than having some of the grounded bits or the ties to the 70s and 90s that it had. There's of course still people that emulate the aesthetic almost perfectly, but there will always be people who complain about the other attempts.

>>394249Blender, extrude some dumb shape, use wireframe modifier and orthographic camera
>>394668>use wireframe modifierNah, that won't look cleanI would use Freestyle for that
>>394504Neo y2k is more like post 2006 or whenever the PS3 came out.
>>394927
>>394928
>>394929
>>394927Nah, that's just the 00s. Do you mean like, that deviantart/later flash art look from the era, like this?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLPC0-zUZroThe PS3 was moreso part of the late 00s aesthetic, honestly. I could understand if you meant that neo y2k takes from the first half of the 00s, but the later half? Nah, I don't see it, unless you mean moreso the pink y2k aesthetic that a lot of women have been tapping into, like with Mean Girls and Paris Hilton and all that.Just like vaporwave, the terms are near nebulous since there's a lot of aesthetic movements coming out of the woodworks based around similar things, and it makes it hard to see what fits in where, so I'm sorry if I'm wrong about anything or misunderstood you. Always thought neo-y2k was moreso just a comeback of y2k, but if it's moreso the girl-oriented style, then my bad.

Is it worth it to download old software to generate textures and whatnot if you're on Linux and don't have adobe's creative suite?..Like running things like Kai's Power Tools via wine maybe?https://archive.org/details/KPT302
This reminds of night arcades in Y2K for whatever reasonhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yvmMXLekHEespecially the weird talking part before the dub.

okay but i need some extremely Y2K MOVIE recommendations though....... HACKERS is probably one of my favourites, a classic, iconic etc etc, but y'all got anything else? Lawnmower Man is preY2K (i think??) but fits the vibe too, Starship Troopers too, what else? I know there's a lot I'm just tryna get some ideas rollin so we can find the good hidden shit no one ever thinks/talks about
>>395839>>395585>>393932I don't know how to describe it, but is that "soft blue haze" in all these pictures a byproduct of the printing process or some kind of filter? I really want to know how to replicate that specific part of the look

Not the ethereal kind of Y2K, but this gives me nostalgiahttps://www.rockstargames.com/smugglersrun1/
Man this thread is amazing I found a lot of stuff that gave me goosebumps because of how much it reminded me of the 00s...I just love the whole aestethic of the decade, especially how the internet was at the time...I made this wallpaper trying to capture that same feeling, what do you all thing?
>>397866Too flat. Needs more glossy and gradients
Any source on what font the OP is?

>>393698so basically everyone thought the year after 1999 was the future?
>>403147around the time for 'end of history' or arrival or 'new world order' maybe as every physical thing and idea is to be made into a factory commodity for totally culturally consolidated global market.except "nazism" and swastikas cuz that's a nono, that has place as the defeated evil in the origin-story.
>>403153you sound kinda gay bro
>>403153no it wasn't. stop trying to sound pretentious. the 90s were a relatively conflict free time, and as a result retro futurism made a comeback as they had bright prospects for the future
>>403158Yeah you're right on the money, don't know what the hell that anon was on. Things seemed bright for the US side of things, until 2001 hit. I could see the argument for Japan though, since it was going through hard times and there definitely was that feeling of fake pop happiness during trying times. Then again, that was mixed in with youth culture fucking loving the tech boom and globalism and everything to do with keitai culture, so I imagine it's a bit more complicated.>>403147That helped, but it was mostly advancements in tech changing how people live fundamentally, or all the new possibilities. Graphic design people had a fucking field day playing around with everything too.

>>404356This that good shit, was gonna complain that you got mostly the common picks, but you really diversified.Wish there was some equivalent for Japan , since it seems like it has such a distinct take on things. If this is your playlist by the way, you might want to split off the McBling/mid 2000s stuff into its own playlist, since it clashes just enough to cause some dissonance
