NOT THE SAME AS THE Y2K AESTHETIC
y2k aesthetic is ethereal/space-agey, 2000s aesthetic is warmer, more down to earth whilst being maximalist
notable phenomena include gaudily-textured cgi anthropomorphs, potato quality internet media, maximalist design cues (sometimes to the point of being cluttered and overwhelming)

2000s don’t have an aesthetic lol

Just low megapixel count

The decades-having -aesthetics paradigm ended with last millennium, now it’s all just a soup
>>
>>390012
personally i'd dispute that, if you compare 2000s aesthetics with 2010s aesthetics, personally i feel that the former is maximalist and likes to use bold colours whilst the colour schemes of the 2010s are more subdued and designs are more minimalist

The early 2000s are like y2k era and lots of post 90s or adult contemporary. Mid 00s and after are the mcbling era what with the ipod aesthetic and everything. 2010's was like, all about boho, minimalism, and neon coming back.

Although the 80s came back like, 4 times or so in between all that? It's crazy

they're similar but the emphasis is different imho. y2k emphasises inherently futuristic/space agey forms and revolves around metallic colour schemes, mid 2000s is more down to earth and uses more intense colours
both are predominantly maximalist tho, as well as relying heavily on gaudily rendered cgi

As that anon before said, y2k was more about like, spacy hopeful futurism and stuff, with more of a hint of the 90s.
The mid 2000s is like, consumerism and hip hop and earthy tones, with boho starting to trend more and cellphones/the internet starting to be co-opted by many more companies. It's also the early start of social media, and is the era you remember when thinking about Hot Topic or emo.

Nah anon. You can look at certain elements in movies, video games, music and general media that scream 2000s.

It's harder to notice because for you (I guess) it's a more natural thing since you (perhaps) lived through all the aesthetic and see it as something natural. For example it's hard to pin down the 2010s aesthetic because we still haven't quite come out of it, it's still "natural".

I don't remember the 2000s that well but I can personally perfectly pin down the plastic, edgy, produced, maximalist, clean and highly contrasted aesthetic of the 2000s.

I think it's something more based on personal perception. But well you do you.

What's so confusing is that the 2000s is full of aesthetics. It's not something that's easy to simplify into one, since things went by so fucking fast. Starts as y2k which ends with 9/11, you get the remnants of the cyber aesthetic turning into things like >>391596
The skater aesthetic mixing in with the rise of emo as some sort of counter culture to all the hip hop, then 80s nostalgia after 2004 because of the Iraq War turned media so gritty and grey. All that while the iPod smashes down right when people start to get tired of maximalism. This isn't even counting other countries or the impact the internet had on things.
Honestly, the 90s were also the exact same way, but people just forget or choose what parts they liked.

Try MGS4 and their fake tv commercials. Reek of mid aughts design. After effects and photoshop became more mainstream with amateur creators, hence spurring the beginning of YouTube

Huge pants, huge shirt, huge shoes, exaggerated hands. This is all kinda just based on 2000s hip-hop culture, and fits best with the time period because nowadays the style is no longer prevalent.
