Hello, /gd/.

I'm new to Photoshop and I want to try some easy effects.

Looking for something easy to start with, I tried the "turn to stone" effect, thinking it would work well.

This is as far as I've gone, but the hair, eyes and eyebrows look awful.

How can I work with that to create a real petrification effect?

Any ideas/tips?

Source pics in the next posts, in case you want to show something with my picture.

Dark hair is proving to be a problem, but I don't want the easy way out of choosing blonde models... There must be a way here.

So far I've:
- Selected the model
- Desaturated
- Pasted texture into selection and chosen Multiply as Blending Mode.

Where can I go from there?

Thanks.

I never check this thread but last time i did was like more than a year ago now, and basically the exact same thread with the same picture was posted. "new" to Photoshop, meaning what, less than 10 years?

Is this whole thread just a shitpost
>>

Not really. /gd/ is just bad at /gd/ and they've been filtered by a simple problem.
>>

find me a good example of this anywhere
it always looks bad. / uncanny

in b4 actual stone sculpture
>>
>>385282 cont

look at this shit. this is considered a good example of material conversion

and still shows incorrect though process behind how any inclusion in the marble would be revealed (the surface is a 3d shape as are the inclusions -- the intersection is what is you would see ). while better than most the material is still way off, there is still evidence in this image of flesh like sub surface scattering, this phenomena does happed in marble too but not at all to the same degree

just carve a fucking head from stone already
or spend a few years learning to look and draw

Apply your crack brushes on a masked layer and make sure they contour properly with the surface of her body.

It's not easy at all. How do we fix the hair and eyebrows? How about the eyes? The texture is just the most simple part.

>>

i wouldn't its a crap concept

if you want to do better then you need to look at real stone for reference
work from what you see not from what you remember
>>
>>387082
This is the kind of crap a retard writes when they can't find a solution to a particular problem but they want to sound intelligent.
>>
>>387100

you nearly got me to write a helpful response.
but then i figured you are too lazy to understand
what i would tell you

basically fuck off and learn how to split the image into different frequency bands.. show me you can do this and ill offer advice on manipulating these properly

and it still involves a lot of looking at reality

This guy thinks “STONE BITCH FILTER” is hidden in some menu in Photoshop.
YouTube has tons of photoshop tutorials.
Enjoy.
>>
>>387399

all hope is lost .. you cant even bloody read
my offer still stands

youtube does have tons of tutorials and a few are very good. there isnt a good tutorial converting a portrait to stone though

duplicate the original image use the high pass filter and then difference layer low pass filter together to make a frequency notch filter

the higher frequncy is where much of the textural information is low frequncy is more shape and shadows

colour can be dealt with seperatly on its own layers

this forms the basis of how texure maps used to me made from photos.. it isnt like that anymore but knowing how these old workflows gives you a much better understanding of how to manipulate images.

the gaussian pryamid has been part of standard image stiching method for years and is bult into most photo software

DESU it is also the kind of thing a properly designed/trained rgan ai would do well

>>
>>383419
the effect is not difficult but the hair makes it pretty much impossible without editing it in some way.
>>
>>389538
That's the problem we're trying to solve. Pure black has no curves to play with. What do you do, then?
>>
>>389568
just paint over it with some stone-like values and apply your textures.
>>
Bump for a solution that doesn't involve painting the hair from zero.
>>
the fact that this shit thread is still going after 3 months is just the absolute state of this board...
>>
This may be the most stupid idea ever. But why don't we just copy similar hair from a blonde model, and then petrify it?
>>
>>390295
>3 months
This is the second time that it's reposted. The first one was longer
>>
>>385708
the hair is unrealistically fine to be stone
>>
>>383419
Select the model
Put stone texture in a layer in the form of the model
Copy model in two new layers
Desaturate one, probably make grayscale and mostly transparent
For the second layer, use high pass filter and set lighting to "soft light".
Could work pretty well
>>
>>391516

>>
>>391747
That effect is shit. You didn't change the hair or eyebrows, which are the main problem found in this thread. The question we're trying to solve is: how do you petrify the black hair and make it look the same colour as the skin?
>>
>>391753
increase the contrast,
increase the brightness
increase the contrast,
increase the brightness,

do it in tiny steps till it reaches +50-80% brightness, 30-50% contrast.

that effect looks better as all the concrete you pros produced till now.

then you can overlay you concrete layer as usual ova the skin.

>>383419
Stone statues don't have dark hair, so I guess you'd have to lighten the color of her hair.
